For #4 I’ve heard so many opinions about this all over, some say 1 or few minutes and some say don’t even layer them because they counteract each other slightly or something along those lines, seems the most common is #2 is what most recommend from my research
I've been using this vitamin C face serum by riceberry littleextra for a few months now, and I'm really impressed with the results. It's become an essential part of my everyday skincare regimen. Over time, the serum has effectively minimized the size of my pores and faded dark spots. It's great for my sensitive skin. A standout feature about this serum is its lightweight, non-greasy texture. It absorbs quickly, making my skin feel refreshed without any greasy residue. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a brighter, more even complexion, especially with the benefits of black rice water. This serum is mild enough even for sensitive skin. After applying the face serum, I follow up with riceberry sunscreen, which contains niacinamide and kojic acid, These have helped me additionally reduce dark spots. Also, practicing yoga daily helps maintain my skin's elasticity.
When my work keeps me up all night, this Riceberry Vitamin C serum is my preferred remedy. It works to mask the signs of exhaustion, lessening dark spots and enhancing my skin’s glow. This way, I can approach the day with self-confidence.
This is really useful. I use vitamin c in the morning and retinol in the evening, as being some who is olive skinned and prone to hyperpigmentation, I fear any irritation
I am a 32 year old male just now getting into anti agin skin care. I played basketball outdoors in the sun for hours all of my teenage and young adult life. Due to this I suffered some skin damage(large pores and some fine lines). Vitamin A and C will be helpful to my skin care routine. Your video was very informative and educational. Thanks!
WOW! Seasoned esthetician w/a biochem degree and that was hands-down, the best explanation of free radicals and their synthesis and job in the body, and how retinoids and vitamin C works on the skin! Charts are SO comprehensive, great!! as I was typing this and listening in the background, I realized you recommended the product line that I just started with in our medical spa “Skin Better”…. So super happy to get that reinforcement about this line! TY
I recently introduced retinol to my routine, the first one I tried from versed broke me out within 2 days and I was like I am done with this. I went back to your recommendations and got the cerave one and my skin looks really bright and smooth. I have dry skin. I pair it with honest moisturizer. I tried one from elf and it didn't work. Glad i didn't give up on retinol. Thank you!
This is the first video on this topic that I’ve heard say “avoid the corners of your eyes, nose, and mouth”. Such a great tip for me getting started, since I have such sensitive skin and used to get irritation in these spots from even the gentle Differin cream I would use for acne. Also…I am definitely going to sit up and listen to skin advice from someone with such incredibly beautiful skin herself! Gorgeous and highly intelligent. I will be subscribing.
I love how well you explain everything. So many estheticians claim you can't mix A and C and refuse to acknowledge that science has made it possible for this advancement.
Doctor Alexis, I think a lot of people may think the products you recommend are expensive or on the pricey side but if you could quantify how much of a product/ballpark amount to use or how long it lasts when purchased maybe we’d be more inclined to think the product more within reach. I use to cringe at paying $55 for face sunscreen but now that I’m using it and see that it lasts a bit I’m more willing to purchase and use it regularly thanks to you and Danielle, the Style & Beauty Doc.
@@BYCloe-u I’ve been using Deciem products and doctor Hani’s routine for hyperpigmentation to supplement my skincare. I’d say I spend $USD 170 every 8-12 weeks on cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, alpha arbutin, mandelic acid, niacinamide, vitamin c, SPF, and azelaic acid.
Or rearrange the perception. Consider it as a investment to self. Half of the time we unconsciously throw this kind of money away on stuff we don’t need anyhow.
I agree with investing in the skin by using high quality products but I disagree that sunscreen should “last a bit.” Whether inexpensive or expensive, sunscreen should be applied liberally and frequently. It shouldn’t last long to be honest. Serums and prescriptions are another story.
@@cv7958 when I say long lasting I don’t mean application to the face I mean the amount of product you get vs the money you spend vs how long it takes you to go through a product of that size.
Can you please do a video on best body moisturizer for evening skin tone or anti aging ? I followed every piece of advice about active ingredients for my face and I finally cleared my PIH after 8 YEARs!!! Truly you are the only dr I listen to now lol.
Listen, I just found your channel and you are such a blessing. I’ve always had pretty clear skin, but now as a woman in my 30’s, I’m looking to be more intentional with my skin care routine. You have a video for every question I have. I can’t wait to make my way through your video library. Thank you for everything you do. ❤️
My first time in this channel & I already learned a lot. I have read that the best Vit C is in a powder form (The Ordinary) and to apply it, it must be mixed w/ your favorite moisturizer so by doing this you will always get a fresh mixture of Vit C. I agree with the logic but I'd like to get your take on it. Thank you in advance🙂
" And my friends, if it cant get it into your skin - what is the point?!" Right?!! I think about that every time I'm buying any skincare product. Thank you Dr Alexis!
You are so articulate and eloquent Dr. Stephens, and I’ve been learning so much from your videos! You seem very approachable and if I were a patient I would feel so open to ask you any questions I had. Please keep up RUclips, you and your knowledge are much needed here!
I know you mean your comment as a compliment but it is insaulting to tell a black woman she is so articulate and eloquent as if those are characteristics that is not often found in the African American people.
@@tatianabryant3212 hello there, That definitely was not my intention. Personally, all I meant was she is very easy to follow and learn skincare from and I've made next to similar comments on posts of women with other skin tones (Dr. Dray is another fave derm on YT for me and many). I'm a female of colour as well and I like to see more women of colour on RUclips, but that was not actually even something I tried to have be considered in my comment. I'm not telling her I am surprised she is eloquent for an African american. I am telling her she is eloquent because she is*, especially for a skincare persona on youtube. I Find it appropriate to tell a doctor, that they make things very easy to understand. The skin colour should not be in question of anyone's intelligence. People who post informative videos are not always eloquent and articulate. By any means. And I really appreciate when people are like this. Hence why I have looked at ome skin care video after another trying to find clear answers for things I searched. @@viviany8124 I understand. Maybe this helps…. Follow me on this one….hopefully ur a parent but if not I think you will still get it. Have you ever told a parent that their child is so well behaved. That mere statement has several undertones, one being that most children cant behave and the other eludes to the fact that that isolated this child from the rest thus making this child an exception to the rule or narrative. The same undertones is found when other races tell a black person that they are “articulate” or “eloquent” ..:.it’s a back handed compliment because In one tone there’s the perception that blacks aren’t educated or articulate and are “ghetto” and you stating that comment merely means that you have found a black person that is soo eloquent and articulate as if it’s uncommon. Now if she said the same things with an accent or slang you wouldn’t be saying articulate or eloquent as you are using European standards to define what articulate or eloquent means. Also, it’s an ironic compliment, she’s a doctor, she didn’t do all that studying to sound uneducated. Maybe next focus on the value and importance of her educating us on skin care and not her identity. You did a great job explaining it to me, go that route next time.
@@tatianabryant3212 your example puts it in perspective for me actually! I was at first quite taken aback and confused how my comment could be perceived that way and your example, especially also saying the European standard of wording I used, put it into perspective for me. My dad is over 60 and only last year I got him to start using Vitamin C in the morning before sunscreen, and I apply a retinol on his face myself almost every night! Hope it's not too late to improve his skin
Paula's Choice aha/bha followed by a vitamin c is a winning combo. Also, if you use the PC, don't use it on a cotton pad. It wastes it. Massage it into your face, concentrating on congested areas and hyperpigmentation. Let it dry, and apply vitamin c serum and sunscreen.

Either way, I couldn't be more ecstatic about the journey ahead. I even made an appointment for my daughter to see you. I won't make the same mistake with her. See You Soon :)
Wow, thank you so much for this informative video. As I enter into my late 20’s I started noticing small signs of aging. I decided to hop on it and start taking better care of my skin and invest into some quality products. It’s nice to know that some of the products I am now using you mentioned! I also incorporated using a vitamin c serum In the morning before my moisturizer and a retinol at night before moisturizing. After doing research on how to safely use retinols I started off only using it twice a week (Monday and Friday’s and only at night as retinol makes your skin more sensitive to the sun) I am noticing a HUGE difference! I also, have really loved using Laroche Posays gentle cleanser and double repair moisturizer but I def will be trying there prescription gel after you mentioning it! Plus, I already had been eyeing it lol. Love your videos! As a woman of color, its a breathe of fresh air to see a woman that looks like us in the dermatology field. Keep up the great work!❤️
Thank you for this, Dr. Stephens. I've been using Vitamin C serum for years but only started using retinoids this year. Currently, I use the retinoid in the evening after cleansing and the Vitamin C in the morning before applying makeup.
I've been using vitamin c for a while, I have a question when you introduce the retinoids at night, did you have to stop the vitamin c or did you continue using in the morning?
Thank you so much for this informative video! Just yesterday I bought The Ordinary retinol 1% and L-ascorbic acid, but I’m brand new to skincare so I was thinking just using both at the same time using your method #2. Now I’m planning to do what you said! Use the retinol first for a month or so and then incorporate the vit C 😁

Hi Dr. Stephens, When you get a moment, would you mind creating a video on the "natural" skincare movement. Specifically, the types of products that people make in their kitchens and market as being an "all natural" product. Moisturizers, cleansers, toners, etc. Thank you.
Thanks for all the great info!!! So helpful! I use Bakuchiol at night (just started), and Vitamin C in the AM. Both of them Inkey list. So far so good with them both. Interesting that I saw Inkey list label state you can use their Bakuchiol and Vitamin C together to help with anti-aging. Is that because Bakuchiol is a natural source of Vit A?

I'm very new to Retinol and I'm 56 yrs. old. So having no clue, I bought Olay Retinol 24 and the Olay vitamin C 24 and used them together. Well, I did have a little stinging at first. Not knowing what I was doing, my neck is very red and irritated. So I've stopped using! And now I know not to use them together. I wish I could find more information on this. It took awhile before it became evident that it was a problem. And not helping that the vitamin c also has a AHA in it adding to the irritation!
I use Retin A at night all over my face, neck and hand, no problem. I heard that you shouldn't use it in the day except for Adapalene since retinols and Retin A break down in sunlight. I use Bakuchiol in the morning since it's also unaffected by sunlight. I did use Vitamin C but it didn't seem to help. I would make it fresh by mixing 1/8 teaspoon vitamin C powder (sold at Trader Joe's) and a teaspoon of water and I'd apply it to my face, neck and hands with a cotton swab. I guess I'll have to start it up again and then put the bakuchiol on half an hour later.

I'm in my 40's and I wish I had found you sooner so that I would have been able to start my preventative regimen versus trying to play catch-up.
Me too
Since I'm to use it only once in a week ,can I use my face lightening cream other days I'm not using Tretinion?
I've been using vitamin c for a while, I have a question when you introduce the retinoids at night, did you have to stop the vitamin c or did you continue using in the morning?
Love these videos wish I knew about this when I was younger. I am starting a whole new skin regime and I am in my later 60s
God Bless
Happy belated international women’s day QUEEN thank you so much for sharing all your knowledge and making these videos❤️
You are the queen 👸🏾 of hyperpigmentation education! I stopped watching another popular RUclipsr before I found your channel because she doesn’t put chapters in her videos or link any products in her description bar 🙄🙄🤬
Just enrolled in the SkinBetter Science under Parkland. Super excited about it! Thanks for educating us all!
Hi Dr Alexis. I went to Ulta today to get some vitamin C, I saw your name on the Laroche Posey kit! I told the staff you were my derm. I mean my RUclips dermatologist. I was so happy to see your name on the set, I bought it🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thanks for leaving the product names up longer. Very informative as always!
Does she take the product names down? Because I don’t see them. I just started following her 3 days ago. I was looking for the recommendations
you are such a gem, this was super helpful and informative without being confusing !! Stay blessed
Thank you for this! I was surprised not to see Paula's choice retinol/bakuchiol on the list tho.
Same! I love the pc 1 % retinol that’s got vitamin C, vitamin A and peptides all in one. I haven’t tried the Bakuchiol one.
I have the Skinbetter AlphaRet Overnight cream! I had NO IDEA it had vitamin A & vitamin C combined. Makes sense now as I’ve had irritation when using it. I shouldn’t have been mixing certain PM products with it! 😳🤦🏽♀️ The more you learn!! Thank you!
Yes it does! If combined with others. Glad to help☺️
great advise! now i have more confidence to use vitamin A and C in the same routine. just give some time between for each other to absorb
Excellent presentation of options to use Vit C and A.
Your voice is so soothing 💕 I often use Vit C alone. Now i know better.
You look very young Dr! Thanks for your educational tips! You are really very well read indeed ! God Bless!!
I essentially bought everything you suggested in your fall skincare recommendations and I love it esp that Tula milk cleanser

That you for your recommendations people spend money on what they want...These price points are sufficient that you...I just bought some sunscreen you had recommended that you again your skin is amazing...

What's you take on L'Oreal day and night creams for black women
I’ve been trying to learn and incorporate these products into my routine for the past couple years but was always left confused about them and never went through with it because I wasn’t educated on it fully. And wow, you explained everything so well! I have never subscribed to anyone faster 😍
Huge fan myself of waiting 30 min btwn my vitamin c and retinoid applications. Thank you so much for such valuable content like this, Dr. Alexis 🥰🥰
I have seen this video 3 times already and every time I learn more. You are truly the best I am getting you favorites since my skin is exactly like yours. Thank you, you have no idea how much your videos have helped in order to get the right product and stop wasting money on the ones that are not for me. 👏👏👏🙏🙏
Thank you so much for this ! Recovering from mixing vitamin C brand name Exuviance and Vit A. My skin became irritated, sensitve, dry, cracks corners of lips and nose. Back to basic. Thought it was an allergic reaction to the vitamin C. Now I know it was a chemical reaction. Again Thank you!
Me too
I'm so happy to have found you. You are so easy to listen to and you hit the topics I'm so interested in. Brains and beauty.
I'm simple. She has clear glowing skin. I'm paying attention.
As a biochemist by training, I love your detailed approach. Thank you
Fabulous video full of great information! I find these two ingredients the most confusing at times but try to include them both in my skincare routine. Thanks so much for breaking things down in such a fulsome yet straightforward way and providing great options!
The best combination is vitamin c with vitamin e for morning! And retinol for evening
You literally cleared this regime v well
Thank you Dr. Alex, for such great information.
I'm following option no.3 and my skin looks great.
Hi Dr. Stephens,
When you get a moment, would you mind creating a video on the "natural" skincare movement. Specifically, the types of products that people make in their kitchens and market as being an "all natural" product. Moisturizers, cleansers, toners, etc. Thank you.
Thank you so much for all your content😘 You and shereen are where I go to get my skin advice! You have both transformed my skin! Thank you xxx💕
I just found your channel and so far I love it. Thank you so much for your educational side of this. It is truly appreciated.
you are such a gem in youtube skincare!
Thank you for your amazing videos! 💕 If you ever get the opportunity, I would personally love to see a video on body skin care 😊
Your videos are so informative and helpful, thank you so much ! Hope you get many more followers 🙏
It will be helpful to list the products. There are many products you are discussing.
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾😘😘🥰🥰♥️👏👏 you are a Heaven send for me pretty princess, my skin is problematic and i find hard to deal with, please , remain blessed lov , Jacquie from UK
Very good presentation. 50 years man which type of anti aging moisturiser use in dailybases
"And my friends if can't get in into your skin, what is the point" 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 You look so beautiful btw
The way you explain things is very easy to understand. I am learning a lot from you. Subscribed today.
Thanks for the information Dr. Alexis ❤
My pleasure!
Thank you for showing some great options of Vitamin C products.
Never knew to be particular about hand creams! Can you do a video on that?
Should I moisturize after I use both vitiman c and retinol together
This was SO HELPFUL!! Thank you for sharing💞
Dr Stevens, can you please do a video on fillers? Thank you.
Been watching your videos for a few months now and just noticed I hadn't subscribed yet
Such helpful advice, thank you, Dr. Alexis!
