Practically every comment for Rising S seems to point at very few things.
1) the bunker explosion most likely caused by a propane gas leak
2) moisture/mold causing rust
3) the owners history
With all 3 I doubt Matt will have issues.
1) the bunker explosion was caused from a propane leak in which Matt is not going to use. He will be using HVAC system from the house/garage
2) any moisture causing rust is a fault of the A/C system and/or how the bunker was laid into the ground. Since he is going to encase the bunker in concrete all around and then build a garage on top of it I doubt any moisture from the ground will get to the bunker. As long as Matt uses a Dehumidifier in a gun vault (necessary for gun vaults anyways especially if they use HVAC) he will not have any rust issues inside from the moisture in the air fed in by the HVAC system
3) the owners history doesn't really have anything to do with the build quality. Shit owner doesn't mean shit product. Correlation is not causation.

Install drain tile around the base of the concrete pad and a sump pump... also put a moisture sensor in the box...
Fun fact, in the UK if you install a bunker you no longer have a “house with a underground space” you in fact have “A bunker with a house above” doesn’t sound like much, but as far as legal definitions go you would have to buy (and get a mortgage) for the bunker, the house comes as an extra!

I think this is the first time I have ever commented on RUclips.I watched this video yesterday,then his response video this morning and had to come back and see what he was talking about and it blew my mind.Im early 30's and have parkinsons disease.Im a car nut but found matts video's 3 or so years ago and the guy "in my opinion" is someone i look up to,he does cool stuff,has a great family and he tries to be better everyday.just by what he has posted never spoken to me personally he has helped me through some bad times.He is the only youtuber i thought that had a following of people i rarely seen talk bad on him ley alone anyone in the comments,so it bothers me that so many got upset about a some metal that is going to be hidden underground.Excuse my spelling and rambling its hard to gather my thoughts.But thanks Matt to you and your family and friends to take the time and film you reach out and help more than you relies.
Vault looks great. I'd suggest an intercom/phone setup, to communicate with the mansion/elsewhere.. Even though you 'can't get locked inside' always better to have more than a single 'point of failure'.. Plus, Meredith can tell you when it's time to leave your pew-pews and come back to the house for dinner 😊 Enjoy.
Matt, don't forget a dehumidifier. All that humidity, that y'all have, will condensate on the cool metal.

Matt has the luxury of having his Rising S on a good hill, flooding shouldn’t be too much of an issue,
HOWEVER, this still promotes Rising S, which most people shouldn’t buy, especially if theirs is actually for emergencies

Man I was so disappointed when I saw the rising s bunker, sorry man but everything I've ever seen is bad news when it comes to their builds. Leaking water, poor ventilation, bad build quality overall, not to mention the lack of morals and decency from the owner. Sorry Matt but personally I feel this was a bad decision. I hope you have good luck with it all and this turns out to be a good bunker for you.

Exactly my first thought when I saw it! I actually came to the comments to see if anyone else said this, and was shocked that no one else had mentioned it.... Probably enough security for a regular bunker (unless you're super worried about someone stealing your MREs and whatnot, I guess), but it seems almost criminally insufficient for securing dozens or hundreds of weapons....

Matt the lock on that thing can be opened by my 4 year old. That door should have been installed with a dial or electronic keypad at the very least. Wasnt a direct view of it but it looks like the override key is single sided which take a few seconds to rake open and the 5 prong push pads are junk. Please find a good locksmith in your area to see if they can install a dial or keypad.

That is not a keypad a keypad has 1 to 9 with a clear, 0, # button. The lock on that door is not electronic from what I can tell I dont see anywhere to install batteries. Most of those locks can have let's say a code of 415. Well if you punch in 154 that thing will still open.
I'm no lockpickinglawyer but I have been a locksmith for 8 years and know junk when I see it

After 2 years watching this again and I am really blown away still how you secure your gun vault. Seeing all those other Bunkers from the same company just filling it up with dirt and well you do it with a real thick concrete wall and rebars. That's how it is done, also concerning water and the like not damaging the walls over time. Very cool engineering. Me as a German... I like that a lot.
I understand not wanting to be put on blast for the sponsor you chose, but you should NOT be deleting comments that are only trying to help you out in this sticky situation you put yourself in.

Mat might be safe because his is bare bones not a survival bunker. If I know matt he probably has a better real survival bunker undisclosed. This is just his underground vault for guns and it will be surrounded by concrete and on a high elevation. The sad part is other people who will be screwed when wanting to buy and actual survival bunker and going with this company on his recommendation.

OMG.... here it is 3 years ago that you started this journey and I have been binge watching from the beginning of this mansion renovation (stubbled onto this from the Resort Reno that you have just started). In your office above your desk mounted on the the wall is a Negan - Lucille bat and I just about died seeing this!!! LOVE IT and I'm still enjoy watching the shows!!
I dont know anything about Rising S, but comments seem to have covered their quality (or lack of), but all of that aside, the bunker doesn't really look big enough for your collection lol. Especially since your collection is ever growing.

for the cost of that bunker id have just poured a large reinforced concrete basement for his garage. I dont see any advantage to a steel bunker encased in concrete.

I am a retired locksmith of 47 years. May I mention 2 things about the combo unit on your door. First of all all those locks are shipped from the factory with the same default combination and the user is supposed to change it to a personal combination. The instructions for doing that are in the manual. Have you changed the combination. Half the times I had to service one of this locks the default combo worked even if the lock had been there for many years. That made my job easy if the client forgot the combo. Also the code unit often broke and needed replacement after a few years (or less) of use. This was not much of a problem if the lock had an emergence key bypass which I noticed that yours does not. The code unit has sintered metal code wheels (not good) and if a gear tooth breaks no code will open the door. What is your backup plan?

To be fair, I haven't been able to find any negative comment that wasn't referencing info from a competitor either. Don't get me wrong, I have no stake in it either way and don't really care about the company, but I did some googling and couldn't find anything about them that wasn't put out by themselves or a competitor.

Hopefully, you'll have dehumidifiers for this "vault". How are you draining water around the vault? We have already seen the hole collect water.
His hvac is going to be tied in and he has a huge dehumidifier. Plus, that bunker will end up being underneath his garage.
because it was a "hole", before the hole was dug water just ran down the hill on the surface while some leached into the ground a bit I'm sure but before digging that area didn't fill with water.. ;)
He’s technically above grade so hopefully he will not have to many issues with moisture as the water table is pretty far down! As a gun safe in a area with good drainage it’s a ok purchase, as a actual survival shelter I would pass!
Hopefully, the vault will be completely covered by the garage floor slab. If the garage floor has proper drainage, then it could protect the vault from moisture.
In Matt Risinger’s video “Framing at the Abandoned Mansion” he gives Matt, Renovating an Abandoned Mansion, two ULTRA-AIRE dehumidifiers. Hopefully that will be enough dehumidifiers for the Abandoned Mansion, garage, and gun vault.
In the video, “Renovating an Abandoned Mansion Part 17”, shows the digging of the hole for the vault. His topsoil is very thin and covers a bedrock of limestone and some clay. This will not drain well.
In the video, “Renovating an Abandoned Mansion Part 19”, shows Matt pumping out water approximately 3.5 feet of water and while he was pumping it out it started to rain. Encasing the steel structure in concrete will not help, maybe hurt, because concrete is porous. @@billiejeremy To be fair, a reply to a comment (like this one) is not the same as an actual comment to the video. Replies can be hidden and are automatically hidden or compacted ("View X replies") once it gets more than a few of them but actual comments like the one you posted first can't. Much like those silly "Who's watching in 1969 🤣" type of comments I see a lot. Doesn't matter much now though because those overly negative comments seem to have already been deleted, or so I think.
Anyway, yes I'm also here for the same reason. I'm not an American nor do I know anything about these things (gun safes, underground bunkers, and whatnot) but I'm just here out of curiosity. After reading the replies on the pinned comment, I pretty much have a good enough idea what's up.

That’s what I was thinking because there are so many videos of the terrible workmanship. They probably did it to help save them because of it. Rising s did it to themselves if you ask me

Yeah I just searched “rising s bunkers” and the first 2 things I see are “270,000 rising s death trap” and “60,000 rising s bunker doesn’t last 5 years” so either he didn’t research anything and just got the cheapest one or he got it for a deal he couldn’t refuse

Why even tie his reputation to rising S though. Wow this mistake is worse than buying that Ford diesel truck. At least that one was easy to part with. This will be hard to get rid of. And has a forcible reputation with gun owners.

You could get an old shipping container, weld a set of stairs to it and put sheeting over the stairs and it would still be more sturdy than Rising S company bunkers.
