It is only draining 6-8 watt while playing because your steam decks internal hardware is not working at all, your computer is doing all the work, your just streaming the content. Now thats how long the battery should last from the start tbh, but unfortunaly it doesnt, which is understandable because how powerful it is. I should mention that for remote play to work properly you need a very good router with good wifi signal and preferably a 5ghz channel so it can run smoothly, have a clear image and no input lag! One of the coolest things about it is since you're only streaming 720p or 800p, you can actually play at higher quality settings on the deck than playing on your monitor (if you're not running on a potato lol).
You can also use mouse and keyboard on your Steam Deck when you're streaming from your PC. I did this with Modern Warfare 2 and it worked perfectly with zero lag. (Does help that I have fibre connection and a 5G router)
it makes no sense when you can just use the PC directly for the mouse and keyboard benefit. remote play is helpful if you wanna lie down and relax. if you use mouse and keyboard on steamdeck, then its as uncomfortable as playing on PC
You can also add resolution on your NVIDIA settings so that the game will have an option for 1280x800 to remove the black bars. You can also bump this up to 2560x1600 if you want the game to look cleaner, but personally I think DLDSR is better used in this instance.

Yes. It goes through the networking equipment in your house assuming you are in your house. For example if you have an Ethernet cord plugged in you pc it would follow the ethernet cords on a path to your router. It might pass through some ethernet switches. Once the game signal gets to your router (or other type of wireless access point) it goes over wifi to your Steam Deck. If you asked this question because you are worried about lag. wifi it the part of the trip that will cause most of the lag. Not the wired part. So plug in your PC if it isn't. It isn't practical to plug in the steam deck but maybe try upgrading the router/wireless access point. checking the version of wifi will help. To reduce use at least wifi 5. Then avoid 2.4g if possible try 5g or even 6g.
