      The whole time they were using it I kept thinking that depending on what someone was chopping with it, if they went too far it would just become baby food or something to hide in other food so their kids ate some veggies. 😂

    The best advice that my mother ever gave me when I was putting together my own registry, was to put things on there that you would feel guilty buying for yourself. If you really love those fancy glasses, plates, appliance; but couldn't see yourself justify buying them, stick them on the registry! You end up with some amazing things that way.

    Hi from France. Ok so here, these type of soupmakers are (I would say) quite popular for a single person/couple use. They are really practical in the way you only need to roughly shop your veggies and throw them in to make a very nice soup (so no need for that chopper machine). I personally add "broth cubes" to enhance those flavours. It's a quick and easy device that allows you to eat healthy soups homemade when you have a busy schedule and you only need 1-3 max servings. Sorry I don't usually comment but I love that device so much in the winter months that I wanted to explain a bit more it's popularity haha. It's always fun to see the differences between European vs. North American differences in habits (example : i feel like would never buy a milkshake or ice cream device for example, but a yogourt machine yes). Always love your videos !

    • @CarinaCoffee

      I'm German and all I could think was that that soupmaker is like a Thermomix light version!

    • @kierancampire
      @kierancampire 2 месяца назад +5

      I think another thing is, firstly family size, as you said a soup maker like that is good for 1-2 people maybe, whereas in a bigger family a slow cooker or in a pot gives a bigger portion. But also, not saying this in a derogatory way FYI, but I have noticed Americans and Canadians like big portions of things. Like I remember watching one video of a lady trying to make a huge kettle of tea, because she didn't want to make individual cups of tea as and when needed, and I have noticed that generally, that Canadians/Americans can prefer to batch make things instead of making individual portions. So culturewise a thing that only makes 1-2 portions of soup probably doesn't feel like enough?

    • @hermiona1147
      @hermiona1147 2 месяца назад +2

      @@kierancampireWell because it's obviously made for only 1-3 people. It's like complaining that a mini waffle maker is too small for a family.

    • @kierancampire
      @kierancampire 2 месяца назад +2

      @@hermiona1147 I said that myself? I don't know why you're explaining that to me like I am stupid/said otherwise? I explained that the reason they maybe didn't like it as much as because it didn't fit their needs as they want something larger? I never complained about anything? I was just explaining they want more portions most likely?

    • @ItsJustLisa
      @ItsJustLisa 2 месяца назад +2

      I see what you’re saying. And @kierancampire is right, we Americans do tend to batch things and then freeze them for later. And a soup like that chicken noodle soup that Rachel made would be the meal, perhaps with some good, crusty bread, not just a starter. My version tends to be heartier.
      A big favorite for my family is ham and navy bean soup. That’s one I simmer on the stove for 2-3 hours and it’s even better the next day. I make it a lot in the winter since my state is just about center of the US/Canadian border on Lake Superior. It’s hearty and warms you on a really cold day. I just have to remind them that I get to have some too.

    25:52 for the milkshake machine you can take out the cup from the top hook and hold it in different angles so it can mix everything better.

      My grandfather had one of these and just used chocolate ice cream and milk. It is the best tasting milkshake! I have tried making milkshakes in other blinders and nothing comes close. You do have to unhook the cup and move it up and down/side to side to get everything mixed and frothed, but it is easy and so worth it! Love!

    Coming from someone who loves to cook, coming home from a long day at work and getting to sit down and just let my mind go blank while I chop is therapeutic. Like, I'm just sitting in silence and just listening to the sound of the knife cutting veggies. My mom asked me one time if I wanted a quick chopper tool and I flat out told her no. 🤣 Although, in general, I love doing things the slow way, so that's probably a part of it. Most of my life is not efficient or streamlined.

    Dibs is so right about mobility issues when it comes to chopping. I have a bad back and chopping vegetables is a nightmare for me. I have the FullStar manual chopper with mandolin attachments. It is game changing! It's easy to use, has a bunch of options for dicing and slicing, and everything is cut uniformly in no time. And every piece can go in the dishwasher! Oh, and it's cheap!!! Wins across the board. I'd rather spend the $30 bucks for that than a physical therapy session.

    A better option for the food processor would be one of the immersion blenders with different attachments! Mine has a chopper attachment, whisk, and the immersion blender attachment and it definitely saves space having essentially 3 appliances in one. I don’t use the chopper extremely often but I like to use it for chopping veggies for something like meatloaf where you don’t want huge chunks in it. Plus the immersion blender attachment would be great for creamier soups 😉

    For the curtain robot I used the Switchbot I found it easier to use than the one you have, it's also a little more expensive, but also the robot works by actually scooting on your rod not by pulling the rope. I personally am not sure what the beads are for, but you have to put the robot inside the first panel of the curtain, because it's going to drag the rest of the curtain behind it, so you have to get one curtain per panel. I like the switchbot because it works with Google and Alexa and I can program a time to open and close.

    The Ninja is great to hide veggies (especially onions). I completely puree the onion to literal pure mush and no one actually sees it in my dishes. They have no idea they are eating it and they love it- as long as they don’t see it! Win/win.

    We got many things that weren't on our registry (people here like to go rogue and just got you what they think you want- random decorations for your home, serving ware, random appliances). My favorite items that we did get that were actually on our registry were a handheld vacuum (Pet Eraser Lithium Ion cordless), our fruit stand (it's 2 tier and it's stayed on our table since got it), and a hand mixer!

      As far as the blade not remaining sharp, I have not run across that issue yet! Mine are still razor sharp (I have scars in my hands to prove it!)
      The motor will go out (in about 2 years ish for us, because I use mine almost DAILY) before the blades will go dull!

    I'm late to watching this but the ninja chop device would work great for making baby food. We received the kitchenaide immersion blender / choppee we use all the time for small processing, soups and even whisking. It fits in a drawer and saves space.

    My husband and I got items for our home from both Target and Macy's. We got: towels, sheets, pillows, table runners mostly from Target, then from Macy's we got Kate Spade dish set (which we never use) and candle holders (also Kate Spade) and we picked some other glassware (that I don't think we actually got) but it was fun to pick stuff. Macy's gave us a hand-held device that we just went around and clicked the bar codes into that turned into a list...it was so fun! This year will be our 20th anniversary!
    p.s. that curtain thing would drive me nuts, it was so loud!

    When I got married my husband and I were already living together so we had a lot of the basics. We registered for nicer versions of those things we wouldn’t buy ourselves. We were 21 so the bar was low 😂. But my favorite items that were gifted weren’t the fancy gadgets (I honestly only have 2 or 3 left from the registry), but the necessities. Things like towels, pans, knives and even the little things like a knife sharpener and organization. We even registered for a nice rug and bedding! (We still have the rug almost 11 years later). It all depends on your wants and needs.

    That sunrise alarm, I have the same kind. They are amazing! In the winter especially, I am up before dawn to go to work, and this wakes me gently and I can wake slowly and see what I'm doing getting ready without having to wake anyone up with lights or loud radios going off.

    Love the video! I just want to say that I have the exact same soup maker and I love it! There's no need to chop your veg that small, I just quarter everything for a blended soup and it works great every time. I think the machine is better for smaller families, when there's no need for a giant pot of soup. I just make soup every day in this and it's fantastic!

    I have a similar chopper that I got over 25 years ago and I love it! I am still on the same blade. I also stuff it as much as I can but I’m not too picky about everything being a certain size. It has saved me so much time and tears (onions). It’s my favourite gadget!

    Dibs is right, that Ninja "Chop" is just a food processor, not a chopper at all. I have a generic food processor that is that size, except not that giant tall top piece, so mine actually is a better size for a small kitchen. But either way, carrot pieces through a food processor would be waaaay too small for something like roasted veggies.

    I would say $25 or less.

    We've had that exact ninja chopper (plus the accompanying pitcher blender that uses the same "top engine" -- came as a set) for over 16 years and still use it constantly. The blades are still as sharp as the first day we got it. We've made everything from smoothies and desserts to savory dinners and soups with it. Very HIGHLY recommend!

    Ask for a food processor with chop attachment if you actually want to chop. These good choppers are really only good for mincing. You wouldn’t use it for soup because it’s so uneven.

    Our household uses the Ninja chopper for garlic or garlic and ginger together. Remove the skins (separate the cloves, cut the root end off each clove, smash the clove with the side of the knife, remove the skin and drop in the Ninja). Be sure to follow the instructions to only tap to pulse.

    The fact that you guys seemed so surprised by a soup maker, really threw me! I've had mine for years and I love it. It's handy when making soups when the kids are at home, as I can throw everything in and walk off and leave it, and not have to worry about it, which is helpful with small humans running round. I also make sauces in mine, partly for that reason, and partly because it blends it as well, so I'm not getting multiple pans and blenders dirty. Though I have a different brand, and it was much cheaper than that one.

    I highly recommend adding some Wilton Armetale serving dishes to the registry. They have them at Macys but other places too. They can be heated or chilled and they look beautiful. We use them any time we are serving food to guests or bringing food to a nice party, but we also use them even for charcuterie night for us and our kiddos. Now that I think of it I need to get more as gifts for my husband because he loves them! Also, add more silverware than you think you need because it will go missing.

    The ninja chopper looks exactly like the chopper that came included with my immersion blender(I have a Bosch), why would you buy that separate? Just buy a immersion blender, that thing does almost everything and does not take up a lot of space. Including blending soup in the pan.
