  • We installed a set of Tein S-Tech springs on a 2010 Corolla S. The same process should work on 2008-2012 models.
    We wanted a more aggressive drop than what was currently available, so we actually used a set of springs that were designed for the previous generation of Corollas. The springs we used are available on Amazon here: amzn.to/1nexGc4

    @Spencer We did not use a camber kit and did not have any issues. Also, other than handtools, a jack, and jackstands, the only tool you NEED to do this safely would be a set of spring compressors. I would not recommend attempting this install without them. You may want to spray all of the bolts with penetrating lubricant (I prefer PB Blast) while you are waiting on your parts. I always do this if I have a car for a few days before an install...I take off the wheels and spray every bolt once a day. When you go to remove the bolts, they come off MUCH easier.

    I have the same springs on my 2011 corolla s it rides bouncy . But I like it how it looks you are not going to notice that much wheel gap like before ! I'm going to be getting some BC coil overs pretty soon installed w/ Rotiforms nues.

      The look of these springs is great but some nice coilovers will really help you dial in the look you want. We have used BC coils many times and are very pleased with their products. Thanks for watching and good luck with your build!

    @Spencer, yes these springs will fit a 2013 Corolla S. The 2010 and 2013 are both 10th generation Corollas. Sorry for the confusion, but it looks like our labeling on the video description was off by one year, so we will have to fix that. Keep in mind that we used springs that were designed for the 9th generation cars to give it a bigger drop. If you didn't see it in the description, the link to the exact springs we used is: amzn.to/1nexGc4 . Thanks for watching and feel free to ask us anything else that may help in your build!

    Thanks for the video! I have question about this item, as I understand SKL00-AUB00 also compatible with Toyota Corolla 2010 E140 2ZR-FE (as on the video) ? If yes, I'll happy to purchase this item. As I know SKL00-AUB00 it's only support for Corolla E130 2008.

      Tracy Pierce For your car, you would have to remove the same amount of hardware from your car when installing both springs and coilovers. The big difference, is that the coilover system comes with the shock and the coil already mounted together. You would end up skipping the step where we compressed the spring to put the new one on. However, the shock/spring assembly will still need to be removed from the car and the coilover setup will more than likely require adjustment, so it ends up being about the same amount of work. Ultimately, your decision should be based on how much adjustability you want out of your suspension setup. If you like the way the car looked in the video, springs are the way to go and much cheaper, however, if you are going to be adjusting the height because of different wheels or you are just a perfectionist, coilovers are unbeatable. If you are trying to get dialed in withing 1/4" of how low you want to be, you will never be happy with springs, so skip the expense and just go straight for coilovers. Again, for your car, the install process and the amount of work is the same for both processes. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    Hey guys! Don't know if you still respond to comments, but I'm looking to lower my 2012 Corolla CE, and I wanted to ask if there are any places where I can get/buy a manual that would help me do this! Loved the video, definitely will be checking out more of your channel!

      There are some manuals available from sources like Chiltons, but they only show how to install stock components, which would be similar, but not identical to the process. RUclips and forums are honestly your best source of information but require a bit of searching to find what you need. The beauty of RUclips and forums is that they are typically submitted by "weekend warriors" and are easy to understand for those of us that are not professional mechanics. Just keep searching and clicking and you will eventually find someone out there that has done what you are looking for.

    @adrian the Tien springs that we used, have been successfully installed in the 2003-2008 Corollas and the 2009-2013 Corollas. I am unaware of anyone using them in the newest generation, however, Megan racing makes some lowering springs for the 2014+ models.

    speed bumps and steep drive ways,
    im not scrapping too bad, only on my right side of the bumper ever so slightly when i enter the drive way, will they make my car useless ?
    i got em but im contemplating selling them instead of installing, has it changed your driving style are you scared now of pot holes and speed bumps?

    • @projectcave2823

      The car has been totally driveable since lowering. Occasionally, steep driveways and ramps have to be taken at an angle, but potholes have not been an issue. The roads are pretty good around here though, so, it may matter on your local road conditions.

    I read that the second gen matrix and Corolla share the same suspension, if so would these fit my 2010 matrix?

    • @projectcave2823
      @projectcave2823  9 лет назад

      Cullen Inman According to everything I could find, the second gen Matrix has the same suspension as the 10th gen Corollas. The only exception would be the XRS package, which sounds like it will also fit, but may not work as well.

    Two questions, what if I want the front of the car noticeably lower than the back, do I need even shorter springs? Second question, how can I get smoked out tail lights that dark?

    • @projectcave2823
      @projectcave2823  8 лет назад

      +Dan Sturby We have never made the front lower than the back, but I would imagine that using shorter springs would do what you are looking for. For the taillights, we sanded them down, then painted them with VHT smoke, then clear coated them with automotive clear.

      @@projectcave2823 Hey man I have another question pertaining to lowering my car I finally got around to doing it and I just completed it the other day I tired a guy to do it I ended up buying new K YB OEM replacement struts and Megan Racing lowering Springs the drop went really well visually until I tried to drive and all I got was horrible clattering in the back I looked at the mounts on the rear and the strut bar came right through the mount and Now is in contact with the frame of the car which is causing all of the noise I can't drive my car this way I thought I could use direct OEM replacement struts? someone made a comment that I needed to also purchase shorter struts to accommodate the shorter Springs ? this can't be true because my front wheels went through without a problem it's just the back ones. I've been stressing out over this all day long, The mechanic who did the work didn't even check the completed job before he left I don't know what happened or what is wrong. I was expecting this to be simple but it's proving to be extremely frustrating

      The wheels are 205/50/r16. Or 205/55/r16. Not really sure at the moment but it's one of those two. And the bolt pattern is 5x100 if you need to know. I have the same year car and I've been looking into lowering mine

    the one strut bolt in the rear is that the only one you have to remove?

    • @projectcave2823
      @projectcave2823  9 лет назад

      jaquan Armstrong There are two bolts that hold the rear strut on...one on the bottom and one on the top. Other than those, there are no other bolts. The process we used was: slightly jack up the suspension, compress the springs, then remove the lower and upper bolts. When you lower the suspension back down, there will be enough room to remove the strut assembly. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching!

    Did the car need an alignment after installing the springs?

    • @projectcave2823
      @projectcave2823  9 лет назад

      Tyler Tepe The car was not re-aligned and has been riding without any noticeable issues, pulling, or uneven tire wear, however, there are many people I speak with that always get an alignment after lowering. If you want to be on the super-safe side, then get one for sure. If you are on the fence about it, then you could check for pulling or uneven tire wear after installation...get an alignment if you notice any issues. Another thing I have done in the past after lowering vehicles, is to just get an alignment the next time I am in for new tires. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

      Jay Cee No, we did not add camber bolts. Everything remained stock, except for the suspension of course. The owner has since added 25mm spacers to bring the tires flush with the fender....they were definitely a great addition.
