Don’t sleep on Purdue. Painter knows how to build a great team. No one thought Purdue was a top 25 team two years ago then went out and won the BigTen while earning number one ranking. Let’s go.

2019 was not the best team of Purdue’s recent run. That team was essentially a 1 man show that lived and died by Carsen Edwards. The best team had Carsen, Vince Edwards, Dakota Mathias, Isaac Haas, Ryan Cline, etc

If TKR finds his left hand and one of the freshman steps up, I think Purdue can earn another Big Ten title and make a tournament run. The tough schedule may take some time to produce results so this may be more of a late blooming season.

In my opinion Purdue will need their 7'4" (yes he is now 7'4") to step up and start at center. Now does that mean he can't play a 4? Sure but TKR at 6'9" just isn't going to cut it. Unless TKR suddenly is scoring off the dribble, can shoot 3's decent and has improved at jumping, he is just too small for Purdue to be excellent this year. However if he has another big man, and can still post up, say a 4 guarding him? Then that changes things a lot. I somewhat disagree with Loyer, in that he folded in the biggest game last year. I think he hit is ceiling and that isn't a horrible thing but I don't expect him to improve a ton. In fact if Colvin could learn how to play defense (unlikely) and drive a bit, then I could see him starting over Loyer. The unknowns are Berg and Heide. Heide has some real upside and showed that he can play when against the best teams. Does he improve? If so then that helps Purdue a ton. If Berg can somehow step in and get minutes and be a solid backup for TKR and Jacobsen. In a perfect world, Berg would be able to come in and start and replace Edy but it appears that isn't going to happen. He seems like a great young man and a great work ethic, but it just seems he isn't quite there. So I see Purdue being good, but not good enough to beat great teams. Their ability to get a basket when they absolutely need it (Zach Edy) is gone. I don't see anyone else stepping and taking that role. The guy that everyone knows will get the basketball, and just be better than anyone guarding him. Perhaps Heide but he would need to really improve. Otherwise, again they should be a very good team. Just not a great team. Granted any team can get lucky, and I hope they do. There would be little in life that would make me happier than to see Purdue Men's Basketball win an national title.
