Thank for doing this comparison so well. I was sold on Lollars for my new guitar. But thanks to your video, I know then Novel foil/90 is the way to go. Thanks again
That’s excellent! I’ve changed this guitar around a few times since I made this video, and it currently has the Novel Foil Neck with a Low Wind Imperial Humbucker Bridge. The cleans with the foil are exceptional, and the humbucker bridge slays with gain. The Novel 90 was an awesome choice as well!! Thanks for watching the channel, and don’t forget to subscribe if you have a moment!
@Edge of Breakup - Guitar, Amp & Pedal Demos Right? The concept really works for me. The Bigs, the switches, 3 pups. Maybe I'll love the buckers but I see a Loller in at minimum the neck position already.
@@EdgeofBreakup that Foil does sound incredible. I have a jazzmaster partscaster with PAFs which sounds a bit dark for my tastes, so the foil might be just the ticket. Have you tried the bridge one out yet? I'd be really interested to hear how it sounds!
Yes! I’ve got two Lollar novel foils in it now, and it’s amazing! You can hear them here: ruclips.net/video/yiu8evGd-zc/видео.html More videos coming soon with that guitar! Do it man, best thing I ever did to that Prisma Sunset! The gold foils sound like the perfect pickups for offsets. 👏
The novel 90 would be an excellent choice for both slots! I’m actually about to try that combination myself in my SG! I’m really addicted to the sound of gold foils, i’m just a little attached to the way that humbuckers look visually in the SG… the Novel 90s might be not too far of a visual jump since SG specials have historically had P90s in them, but the Foils will def look different compared to how you expect the SG to look! That said - Lollar Gold Foils are some of my favorite pick ups EVER so if you don’t care about being faithful to the look of a certain guitar, I would definitely recommend them for anything!! Try it and if you don’t dig it, throw in two novel 90s or check out my new fave humbuckers ever, the Lollar El Rayos, new video on those here: ruclips.net/video/RoC8PYLQI6c/видео.html Thanks for watching and be sure to follow me on Instagram and say what’s up in the DMs: instagram.com/edgeofbreakup
I'm a Tele guy but I have a '20 SG Standard 61 Maestro that I love the feel and playability of but couldn't bond with the Burstbucker 61s. My amp is pretty mid-forward...too much honk. I currently have a set of Bare Knuckle Blue Note humbucker-sized P90s in it. Low output, awesome overdriven sound in the bridge, not enough sparkle from the neck. Tried Lollartrons, did not care for them and they are about 1/8" taller than a standard humbucker and bottomed out in the cavity and wouldn't sit flush with the strings. I just ordered a set of Novel Foils - nickel case, black insert, silver foil. I don't want to give up on the SG and I'm done caring about correct aesthetics. My (Nash T63) Tele sounds glorious with the Lollar vintage/special combo that it came with and I'm not changing a single screw on it. Most of my playing is clean/edge of breakup with ambient reverb and I love the vibrato, which the Tele does not have. I am thinking these will fit the bill nicely and give a different, clear, open sound that isn't really like anything else. Hopefully they will be here soon. Killer demo!
Oh I can tell that you and I are gonna be friends! 😂 I have four Nash guitars, including 2 killer teles. The only thing I do to them is replace the wiring with Emerson four-way wiring kits and an added Emerson treble bleed (mandatory for fuzz and overdrive/amp cleanup in my book!). If only all guitars could play as fantastically as Nash do… modern day Gibson could certainly learn a thing or two. Follow me on Instagram and say what’s up in the DM‘s, I would love to hear about your findings and hear some clips!!!
I'm actually thinking about swapping the Bridge-Broadtron in my Junior Jet Club for a Novel P90. The Humbucker is very bassy and I love the real P90 in neck position. Might bring a real cool range to that Gretsch. Although I will never be able to play it as killer as you!
I think the same ! Did you do that ? Is this Pickup fits or do you need to do additional work ? I also think to get Lollar soapbar for the neck 😃 Please let me know if you successed !
I love the advice that you give with wood and humbucker pairing. If it sounds good… I put Lollartrons in an HH Strat and, with no hyperbole, it is my favorite sounding guitar. Now I feel that I “need” a Prisma. Great video, playing and sound!
Haha nice! Yeah there are of course archetypes that you can fit into for classic sounds but definitely no rules!! I’m so glad I made this change, and I’m also so glad you made it to the channel and you dug the content!! Thank you!! Definitely go talk to Prisma and get a build started, I can’t recommend their stuff enough, my Dillinger Baritone and Sunset are completely off the chain!!
You’re in luck - I kept the guitar as-is with the wiring kit specific to Humbuckers and 500k sound freaking amazing with Gold Foils in the neck and / or bridge. I also added an Emerson treble bleed on the volume pot. Go for it! Let me know what you think!
Thanks man! It’s so powerful to be able to swap in! I’m gonna throw a set of Novel 90s in my SG next, so stay tuned! I’ve got the El Rayos in there right now, so it will be steeeeep competition!!
@@EdgeofBreakup I have really bad EMI in my city home - not just 60hz hum but high pitched whistling noises sneak in - so I’ve been forced to move to hum-canceling pickups even in my Tele. In the process of evaluating several sets - the totally unsexy DiMarzio Area T’s are in there right now and surprisingly good - but all of that is to say that single coils don’t seem like an option for me at present. I have my eyes on those El Rayos though!
Two of my all-time favorites!! Very hard to decide! Hit me up on Instagram. I’m happy to discuss. For the record, I don’t consider either of them to be noisy
Low Wind Imperials are actually what was in this guitar originally. Being an alder solid body, just wanted to try some different options. I work directly with Lollar - obsessed with everything they make! The gold foil and p90s in this video are fantastic as well and suit this guitar’s voice better.
@@EdgeofBreakup they all sound great for sure! I am also obsessed with lollar pickups… thinking about dropping a set of blondes in my silver sky se but I already enjoy the stock pickups so I don’t know quite yet
I’d recommend the Lollar Vintage Blonde Neck and Middle, paired with the Special Bridge for a little more heat :) ruclips.net/video/5d-96CGaSyk/видео.htmlsi=mlWV7fdFRzoKMpgN
Those sound great. It’ll be nice to have these options in the future. Glad a top builder besides TV Jones is now dabbling in this kind of thing. And I’ve gotta say… I love my Chimera and Nathan Jr., but that Vincent gives me the feels. Maybe one day… Thanks for the vid. 😀👍🏼
Thanks for taking the time to check it out! Making these is such a labor of love for me. Really appreciate it. And yeah if you love the Chimera, you will LOVE the Vincent. Good god. What an amp. I’ve got a few other Bensons and I love em all.
Hey there, thanks so much for watching and the kind words. the original pots were Emerson 500k as installed by Prisma to accompany Humbuckers. I figured I would leave them in and see how they pair with the Lollar p90 / gold foils - and I am loving it! No need to go to 250. I also have an Emerson treble bleed installed on the volume pot. Oh man, you got me thinking about that foil/90 combo. Not as girthy as the HBs but such a nice sparkle, especially in the cleans.
I would agree with that assessment!
Dang bro. This is nuts! Video production is absolutely nuts as always!
Thank you man!! Looking forward to making more of this type of thing. Glad you dig it!
That does sound wicked. Pre ordered the Fender "gold foil" Jazzer with the Bigsby. Already looking at the Loller options for it.
I was just talking about this last night, why they didn’t bother to put real gold foils in it is beyond me. What a miss. Good for you!

That foil sounds fantastic… would it be sacrilege to put a gold foil in a Les Paul? 🤔
I thought about putting them in everything at this point… haha. Even considering a foil bridge on this one!!
