I replaced the handle on my fairly old Schumacher H934 2/10/50 Amp, Fully Automatic Charger with a Conventional & Low Maintenance/Maintenance Free & Deep Cycle switch last year when one side of it broke. I opened the case and found it has 2 metal locking clips on both ends, so I bought a cheap, black belt at Walmart. I cut to the same width as the broken plastic handle, painted the cut strip black with liquid shoe polish, and mounted it with the original clips. The belt handle still retracts inside like the original did. 😁 Everything still works perfectly, including the Amp meter. I keep it indoors, so the battery terminal clips are still in pretty good condition. If/when they ever go bad, I'll replace them with new clips. Mine are the same as your replacements, but I might try to find more aggressive clips like those which came on yours.
Great job, Joe! Another winner. 👍👍 I know you'll keep that charger working as long as possible. Me, too. I can't tell you how many times I've forgotten to put the heat shrink on first. I also used to not use Flux, but I do have it and will use it in the future. Thanks for the reminder. I recently saw a video that showed how much of a difference it makes; it really helps the solder flow!

LOL I forgot the larger heat shrink to cover the repair. I made my handle from a piece of plastic cut out of a 55 gal plastic barrel.

@@JOEZEP54 I usually do 2 heat shrink wraps, too. It's much better than electrical tape, but 3M is not supposed to unravel like most do and leave a sticky mess, from what I've heard. I'll have to get a roll to try and see for myself.

I use heat shrink often on trailer wire repairs. Saves time & holds up better in the weather.

Hey Joe, great videos. I have a off topic question. I found a 1957 excello mower with a briggs and strat. I got it running but when it ran the cord wouldn't retract. Made a grinding sound when I would let tension off the cord. Closed choke and it ran harder and seemed strong but didn't keep it on for long. Appreciate any kinda info.

Thank you for watching and your kind comment.
@adam I am not sure which pull starter is on that engine but from what you are describing it sounds like that is where the problem is. Only a temporary fix but you can shorten the length of the pull string to where it does not grind any longer. If you have the type of starter in the following video: ruclips.net/video/H5WWogtqSPY/видео.htmlfeature=shared the starter arms(DOGS) are catching and hanging out. If not & you have a starter clutch, it may just need to be taken apart cleaned, oiled & reassembled. I have worked on these but not sure if I have a video uploaded. Let me know what type of starter assembly you have & I will try to walk you through it. Neither one is difficult to work on. The engine running better with the choke indicates a need for more fuel. Check for blockage in the fuel tank, fuel line either blocked or deteriorating on the inside, fuel filter if one is installed and last but not least a carburetor clean out.
Let me know if this is of any help

Hey do you remember gas at .27 a gal, they had attendants that washed your windows, pumped your gas, checked your oil, smiled and said thank you when you paid them.

That is 45 years of hard labor to boot! I cannot count how many hours this
was & is still being used. Often left out (under a hood or cover) overnight to charge car, trucks tractors. I saw one on facebook looked like new & still had the box for $20.00 but I did not get there quick enough.
No more S&H green stamps. 😞
