"The people of Madina complained to `A'isha of the severe drought that they were suffering.
She said: "Go to the Prophet's grave and open a window towards the sky so that there will be no roof between him and the sky." They did so, after which they were watered with such rain that vegetation grew and the camels got fat. That year was named the Year of Plenty."
Sayyiduna Maalik al-Daar, the treasurer of food during the time of Sayyiduna Umar ibn al-Khattaab radhiallaahu anhu, reports that once the people had been experiencing a drought in the era of Sayyiduna Umar radhiallaahu anhu, a man went to the grave of Rasulullah ﷺ and said, ‘O Rasulullah ﷺ, ask for rain on behalf of your Ummah, for verily, they are being destroyed.’ Thereafter this person was instructed in a dream to go to Sayyiduna Umar radhiallaahu anhu and tell him that, ‘the rains will soon come and say to him, Be intelligent’, When Umar radhiallaahu anhu was informed of this, he began to cry and he said, ‘O My Lord, I will only leave out what I am unable to do.’
Imaam Shaafi’ee would make Tawassul at the grave of Imaam Abu Hanifa. (Taarikh Baghdaad).

I think underage marriage was only abolished in the late 1800's early 1900's. It was normal in the "Christian Countries" just as it was across the globe. While the west have since ended underage marriage some cultures still infact practice it.
It's to prevent the youth from Zina (out of marriage relationships)

واستشكالك لهذا ، فاعلم أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم نشأ في بلاد حارة وهي أرض الجزيرة ، وغالب البلاد الحارة يكون فيها البلوغ مبكرا ، ويكون الزواج المبكر ، وهكذا كان الناس في أرض الجزيرة إلى عهد قريب ، كما أن النساء يختلفن من حيث البنية والاستعداد الجسمي لهذا الأمر وبينهن تفاوت كبير في ذلك .
وإذا تأمّلت ـ رعاك الله ـ في أن النبي صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لم يتزوّج بكراً غير عائشة رضي الله عنها ، وكلّ زوجاته سبق لهنّ الزواج قبله زال عنك ما يشيعه أكثر الطاعنين من أن زواج النبي صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مبعثه الأساسي هو الشهوة والتنعّم بالنساء ، إذ من كان هذا مقصده فإنّه لا يتخيّر في كلّ زوجاته أو معظمهن من توفرت فيها صفات الجمال والترغيب من كونها بكراً فائقة الجمال ، ونحو ذلك من المعايير الحسية الزائلة .
ومثل هذه المطاعن في نبي الرحمة صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ من الكفّار ونحوهم تدلّ على تمام عجزهم من أن يطعنوا في الشرع والدين الذي جاء به من عند الله تعالى ، فحاولوا أن يبحثوا عن مطاعن لهم في أمور خارجة ، ولكن يأبى الله إلا أن يتمّ نوره ولو كره الكافرون .

اتق الله في نفسك واعلم أنك ستحاسب على قولك بغير علم فليس كل تسمعه صحيح اقرأ القرآن وتدبره فإن بحثت عن الحق ستصل إليه
