This theme perfectly represents the feeling the player has at this point in the game. Up until now, you were at odds with Knuckles when you should have been focusing on Eggman who is clearly the bigger threat. When Knuckles finally decides to buckle down and work with you against your common foe, it gives you the focus and clear objective you so desperately needed and this glorious music is absolutely perfect for that. It just pumps you up for the finale.
I use to think this was one of the easier Sonic stages because it was the third stage in Generations, again, I went back in time and found out that this stage is one of the last stages in Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
My absolute FAVORITE arrangement of Sky Sanctuary Zone's theme, and it's not even a competition! The part that comes in the second time the main melody plays is just pure bliss...

There's an instrument at the very beginning that goes up, and down, and up, and down, and it made me feel like I was underwater, which was a nice contrast to the Sky Sanctuary's... sky-ness.
I love the bassline in this theme. This whole rearrangement is leagues better than the original song - it more than almost all the other songs in the game really benefited from better sound quality and a few extra elements added it.
this really does just encapsulate the majesty of the original, while keeping it's main tone, eggman is on the cusp of victory and after such a humbling moment for knuckles he helps you understanding now that he's been double crossed, in spite of the beauty there is still plenty of treachery with the egg robos swaming and mecha sonic's assault and that creates that need for speed as the ruins begin to collapse and you become the only remaining hope in stopping eggman.
Considering that metal sonic was in the game, including mecha sonic could've been confusing for people who was new to the franchise or those who had not played the classic games.
Literally when I heard this for the first time, knowing that I already played Sonic and Knuckles I couldn't stop crying because the level is so wonderfully done... AND THE MUSIC HITS SO HARD ON THE NOSTALGIA!!!

And I find that weird they they chose probably one of the most unremarkable levels of S3&K to represent it in the SG and turned it into one of the best levels of the game...
