    Great review!
I appreciate honest reviews over fluffy smoke up my ass ones. I currently use a Daytona modular. I do not have camera set up but my Lady and I use the intercom by Cardio. I and my Lady aren't rich. We shopped around and researched in our price range. Excepting some wind noise from her boom microphone because she prefers a half shell helmet. We had a great 200plus mile day yesterday in our half shell helmets with Cardio boom mikes.
I do not know that I could never buy a Shoei, but I will not put down anyone that can justify that expense.
I prefer my helmets have removable liners so I can wash them. Otherwise my helmets get thrown out due to stink and nasty after two years.
Young man, you spout your opinions about everything under the sun, Please do not apologize. Please do not rationalize your opinions. This is why I check your site, listen to you when you ride and enjoy your attitude. Too few people have enough self esteem to do what you do, or have your qualifications!
Over 30 years of riding baggers/touring bikes and no one wants my opinions and I do not care. I do what I do and enjoy who I want and fuck the rest I probably never liked them anyway.
You all are in my prayers

Things not to cheap out on 1) Mattresses, you will literally sleep on it for a decade or more, pay the money and sleep well.
    2) Brake parts. I don’t care if your driving a $500 hoopte, or a $1000 bike never cheap out on your brakes. Your life literally depends on them
    3) foot wear, you would not believe how much better for your over all health a good set of foot ware is. I used to buy cheap teevas and then I got memory cushion teevas and my life was changed. Trust me
Apparently helmets are now added to this list.

    Hello Josh
This is not going to be short!
A new lit , the HJC was due for replacement
My wife often has a whirling sound in her right ear. So
she quickly went for the C4 Basic. Because of the good
reviews and reputation. At the bigger " Louis" shops they
have a simple wind tunnel , with a real naked bike in it.
You sit on the bike , which is anchored to the floor, and operate
the wind turbine with the throttle . Yes those Germans continue
to amaze me.They are technically so "uber" smart. Just look
    back in history.
Well , we came home with the C4 and I immediately installed the
the Sena . YES the ears were squeezed by the speakers. So after
scraping off good amount of " polystyrene" everything was ok.
Happy and satisfied we went for the first test ride. Ahh; the small
roads , the dunes and wooded areas of north west Holland.
After 45 minutes my wife had to stop, because to her disappointment,
she could no longer tolerate the C4. The part of the helmet that thouches
her forehead is thinly lined and hurts terribly. She even got a feeling of migraine .
I also felt very uncomfortable when i tried the helmet. ( admitting the
helmet was a bit to small but ok for the first 30 minutes. But then forehead Not
    good!)
    Back quick and short.
On the highway, at 70 m/h ,the C4 is an improvement in sound and
earodynamics. The story did have a happy ending. My youngest
beautiful daughter tried the C4 and she liked it. So now se scrapes
the footrests of her Yamaha XSR 700, on the fairytale winding mountain
roads of the Swiss alps. Where she lives now. Wearing a four hundred euro
Schuberth C4. Yes kids are expensive.
I did some research on Schuberth on the internet and the motor media
    End of part one

I in the past have bought duff kit from high end brands and it is painful to wear something that is just not good enough especially when you could have gotten something you know is better. A pair of alpinestars touring boots that more or less fell apart in 18 months from Velcro that stopped sticking and zips that broke to the heals wearing through to the hollow chambers are a scar on my soul.Yes they were £50 cheaper than the dainese boots I had been wearing for the previous ten years but they were still expensive and crap and could have been avoided if I hadn’t tried to save some money .They were replaced with a pair of dainese which lasted a lot longer . I am also glad that Shadetree doesn’t take “free” products on review just puts his own money into things it keeps things real .

@1:50 - Dude, I could have saved you some bucks and told you this helmet would be crap...but you never asked me!!!
Seriously though, I actually was serious before but you get the idea, the only thing about this helmet is the name itself. Saying the name conjures up (like how I incorporated the wizardry???) this greatness feeling. But once you get past saying the name, it might as well be sold at a Bates (or K-Mart) store on the $29 shelf. Stick with what is known to be good and stay away from the exotic "sounding" brands.

I just had to smile about this video. This year, I decided to go for a real-quality helmet. During my riding time, I tried on a Schuberth almost every time I bought a new helmet. Luckily, my head never suited that helmet shape, so I was never tempted to buy one (no matter which size, they just rotate around my head). This time, the store I buy a lot from was hell-bent on selling me one. I said no and left. In the end, it was a Shoei Neotec II. Real expensive, fits my noggin really well. I think Schuberth is heavily overhyped, even despite me being German.

I concur. Your head gets hot and swells so you end up with the helmet chafing your forehead, I never got that with my Shoei helmets or HJC. I've just bought a Simpson, plenty of room at the front for your mic too. Best open faced helmet by far is a Davida closely followed by the Shoei J-Cruise which is great for vlogging due to the deep visor that keeps the wind off the boom mic.

I worked at a Motorcycle Gear store when the C3 was new and the quality was good, I mean it had some flaws / bad design elements from the beginning but it WAS a decent helmet.
Just like you said, it WAS quite, it also came with a Pinlock in the box and a wind deflector for the chin area.
The Padding inside the helmet was Couch level but a year or half a year after the C3Pro was released they lowered the price by 100 bucks on the base model and that’s when it did not have any kind of quality feeling to it anymore.
Things I found to feel loose/cheap/flimsy from the start especially compared to the Shoei Neotech were the Sun visor mechanism, Air vents & visor mechanism.
But the bad thing about the Neotech at that time was that the chinstrap with the titanium ratchet was set so far back that even when you closed the ratchet only 30% most people would already get Choked by the Helmet.
So a lot of customers bought into the Schuberth helmets but made the jump directly into the Pro version in direct comparison and with enough money in their pockets
(so many BMW Dad Jeans GS riders at that time)

Since I knew what was good for me, I've always saved the $ in order to buy a Shoei. Hands down the best I've ever worn. Granted, they may not fit all head shape's but if they fit yours, go for it. The price? Well, as I tell my customer's when they choose a helmet : how much do you value your noggin'? The price you should look at is not the initial outlay, you divide the price by how many years you think you'll have the helmet for. 5 yrs? Then for a $1,000 helmet (Shoei prices in Aus) you're spending $200 per year on the cranium. Not too bad!

I have the C4, and very much hated it when I first got it, now it has grown on me as I like some of the features, but it is not as good as the price would suggest. It is def a two-handed action to close it, so they have not improved that over the C3. As for fogging, mine came with PinLock which really helps keep the visor clear, but that the PinLock did not fully fit properly either, so it would steam up if it cracked. The C4 is also terribly noisy too, I had such high hopes for the helmet. I do like that mine has built in comms though, the comms are great for music, not linked to other riders though.
I'd much rather have you say you like something you have paid for, than something you have been given, I have very little faith in reviews from "influencers" who are given products and seem to only ever say nice things about the free stuff! :-)

I had a C2 (most expensive I ever bought), wore it for 1800 miles on a trip. Dropped it in the bin when I got home- far from being the "quietest" lid ever made. Same visor & vent issues.

  • @QBTO
    @QBTO 3 года назад

I've been using a C3 for over a year, the only thing I'd agree with you on is the lack of ventilation. It also came with a Pinlock insert so never had misting problems.
Never had an issue with the chin piece closing or the visor staying open. I've used it on several different styles of bikes and it's not a noisy helmet. Then again I'm not buying a wind tunnel designed helmet and sticking a camera on it.

  • @veekatore8983
    @veekatore8983 3 года назад

Love your energy and charisma! You should be in the WWF or whatever wrestling is these days.. The Schubreth fits a euro head. Your C3 looks like the C3 lite? The lite is the economy option vs the the C3 Pro. There is a Big difference between the 2 and the price tag shows that as well. I tried a Schubreth Modular on especially when Cycle Gear was doing a massive close out and stupid incredible deals on them but they just would not fit my head. The rep at CG said they fit 1 out of 3. I had a Shoei Neotec and went to a Neotec II and that helmet is amazing! Modular s are the quietest of all helmets overall because you have to lock them into place thus preventing wind from entering. You can only take a mod off by releasing it. But no front vent? wow..Also pin lock is the only way to go to prevent fogging. I would look at a Neotec II or if Schubreth the C3 Pro or C4. Also the HJC is getting stellar reviews as well as AGV and Simpson..Great review on what NOT to buy! lol

It's my 2nd HJC helmet and I think for the money, they're the best. Maybe the Neotec is a it better, but I couldn't justify the price increase vs my HJC. If I could have tested it on the Hwy between them, maybe there might possibly be a worthwhile difference in price, but since I couldn't, I went with the HJC Carbon and loved it. Keep it weird Josh! I'm probably going to get an ADV helmet next. Either a Bell MX9 adv, or scorpion at950.

I don't have anything to compare loudness of helmets, but I roll with filtered ear plugs whenever I'm going to spend any time over 60mph. When I'm done with a ride I almost want to just leave them in, they just take the strain out of your head from wincing at loud noises.

I rode many kilometers wearing a C2 from Schubeth, it was comfy, quiet and never felt hot. Then I had to start wearing glasses, tried the C3, just didn’t “feel” right. Tried a Nolan N104 Ncom, wow, what a lid, fit, feel, airy and easy to open/close. You might want to look into trying one of those, and with the pin lock piece installed, no foggy visor, even in rainy Denmark where I currently reside. Godspeed to you.👍

  • @stanleydragon9548

I can see you don't have the pinlock shield installed, ergo your fogging issue. I have an S2 that is my cool weather go to with the pinlock shield installed, I've had zero issues with fogging during cool or wet weather riding. You are correct about Schuberth being a hot helmet, on a hot summer day you'll be stewing in your own juices in short order. I wear an HJC I70 as my summer helmet, and use my Schuberth for early Spring/late Fall riding. Helmets are all an individual choice, what works for one won't necessarily work for another.

Mr. Surgeon- It's interesting and informative to me to learn how much you disliked your C3 Schuberth, and actually this came as a surprise to me. I had the good luck that my wife won one as a doorprize last summer, and she gave it to me (!). I had it fitted to me at the importer's booth, and my reaction to this helmet is strangely about as opposite to yours as can be as I I like every thing about it. I also have a great opinion of the Shoei Neotec though, and was able to test it extensively some time ago against a C3 with no advantage I could see of one over the other. So I guess if there is anything to be learned it might be that a rider should try to get fit and tested for any new helmet since different folks have wildly varying opinions on which one works for them. Thanks, Bob

I tried on that same brand one time and it was the worst feeling helmet I have ever had on my head. The shell design you have is a round oval shape and most people are a intermediate are long oval. And I can tell by looking at your head you are a medium oval head shape. That’s why the Arai and the Shoei helmet fits you ( and myself) so well. Most manufacturers now make different helmet mold shapes to accommodate different head shapes.

I tried the C3, but it just didn't fit my head. I swapped it for a AGV SportModular. Most of the problems you describe are also on the AGV, but there's the advantage of spending even more. After using the AGV for 2 years, the chin guard barely locks in the up position. It's also the noisiest helmet I've ever had and my Sena installation hurts my ears after a few hours. There's also the odd shape of the shell that makes the installation awkward. Yes, you can buy a AGV branded Sena that may fit better, but that's old technology.

I have the C3 Pro and I won't buy another. But I don't have the closing problem you have maybe because it's the "pro version". Mine has two little flaps inside blocking the top vent holes. You need to move them out of the way for warm weather. The shield closing itself when moving is suppose to be feature. Mine also came with a pinlock lens so no fogging. It is very loud and tight around the ears. I do like it in cold weather and it is pretty light for a modular. I paid $400 the C3 Pro usually sells for around $600. I'm guessing they spend most of the profit on advertising.

Hottest most uncomfortable helmet I have ever owned. Now it sits in corner of garage to remind me to never buy another. I was tempted to return to Revzilla but never got around to it. I owned a C3 Pro and crashed with a medium head impact to the ground, did a great job protecting my brains and I really liked it as a helmet but I have to say a lots of the stuff you brought up is true.
    - The closing thing does happen sometimes and you also have to slam it to make it shut properly
    - It is hot but I live in a cold country so that’s a good thing
    - I didn’t have visor problems but don’t ride with it open
    - I found it MARGINALLY quieter than other helmets but I rode only naked bikes with it
    - agree with the inability to put speakers in it, no extra space
    - I also bought a shoei which I like better 🤣

My HD helmet is getting noisy, but it's getting old. The wind noise comes from the soft foam now being softer than before and the air cmoes up my neck and sides.Loud pipes? Wind noise from 60kmh and you won't notice! (Helps a little when wearing something around my neck, but not really anymore) I expect all helmets get wind noise the same way.
