I had such a crush on him (along with millions of other women) in the 1990s. No one had the combination of handsome looks, incredible talent and a lovable humble, and polite personality ❤ I still love him!!!!
_I met Michael while having a pint one night In Dublin....He was with his wife and inlaws...Very nice guy ...no airs or graces...Even way back then when hands were static for Irish Dance Music he was brilliant.. R.I.P. Martin & Derek_
As a kid I didn’t appreciate him as much as I do now. He had a really wonderful lightness that fewer and fewer dancers have today, even though today’s championship skills are incredible.
Looks like it was a very easy dance for Michael Flatley. You can see how he's so far beyond just doing the steps and is concentrating on the pure form -- very light on his feet.
This! I also think that he and Jean Butler really have done so much for irish dancing. Without them it really would have never gained the popularity it has
Yes he was superb Jane, but in my view Colin Dunne was magnificent. 11 times World Irish Dancing Champion....Mary ruclips.net/video/xErEX2IcbKk/видео.html
wow this is great! I really love his style of dancing from that time. It actually looks really lovely when he keeps his arms done and his posture very upright.
this vid is from series of gigs the chieftains gave in belfast in 1984, i believe. By chance i have it on a VHS cassette - someone grabbed the concert from BBC Nothern Ireland.
You can see in Michael's dancing his American influences; he's not as Celtic in style, if you will, as the standard Irish dancer goes. It was a prelude to what was to come!
Not a clue, but it was between 1979, when Matt Malloy joined the group and 2003 when harpist Derek Bell passed away. That's a 20+ year span, so not much help.
Not me. He did a wonderful job, but I like him better now. He brought something new to the dance, and besides, I think he is more handsome now than he was when he was younger.
+Olen Soifer lol i dont know anything about his reputation but it seems like when someone makes it big the do let it get to them so with that said, assuming that's how it is/was with him, that was a funny line.
He was not just a dancer back then. He was/is also All-Ireland flute 1975 and 1976. Sometime later he had the best selling flute cassette recording of all time. Have no idea if that record has held up.
Todos en nuestra familia nos preguntamos por qué los brazos pega al cuerpo...ya sabemos por qué, es por la pleitesía que deben rendir los irlandeses a los ingleses
I like him better here, before we saw the rays of sunshine emanating from his behind and before he gathered enough hubris to beam back at the spotlight. Did Usain Bolt copy some of his gestures? He was undoubtedly brilliant though. That 1994 Eurovision appearance still gives me chills. Will Irish dancing ever be the same again?
I love the Chieftains! And what a treat to see Michael Flatley BEFORE he was MICHAEL FLATLEY!!😁❤

clarebannerman how cool! I hate it when people say he has a huge ego. I’m glad you got to meet him.
R.I.P. Martin, Derek and now sadly Paddy.
He is the best Irish dancer in the world . He is amazing
As a kid I didn’t appreciate him as much as I do now. He had a really wonderful lightness that fewer and fewer dancers have today, even though today’s championship skills are incredible.
I saw the Chieftains in Sunderland in 1984 and they introduced Michael Flatley. This must be about the same time. Brilliant.
Looks like it was a very easy dance for Michael Flatley. You can see how he's so far beyond just doing the steps and is concentrating on the pure form -- very light on his feet.
Yeah his feet are very light here almost like he's floating
WHATEVER YOU SAY ABOUT HIM, HE IS/WAS A BRILLIANT IRISH DANCER.
I saw him perform and it was awesome. His feet were a blur even with my binoculars
This! I also think that he and Jean Butler really have done so much for irish dancing. Without them it really would have never gained the popularity it has
Yip..shame he's such a despicable human being.
@@eringobragh236 Why is he despicable?
The best male Irish dancer I have ever seen.☘️
How in the world can someone dance like that is amazing ❤️
Yes he was superb Jane, but in my view Colin Dunne was magnificent. 11 times World Irish Dancing Champion....Mary ruclips.net/video/xErEX2IcbKk/видео.html
During beat such a happy jig!;), 🍀💚🍀Thank you for sharing! Great!🍀 Rockn! The taps! 🍀💚💕amo!💚💕
Wearing white socks really brings the focus to your feet. Gene Kelly and Michael Jackson both did it for that reason when dancing
So do red...ie Van Johnson
I think this is one of the pure traditional irish culture so far i know, l love the music and dance as well. Michael is a humble man.
I LOVE Irish Step Dancing! Ever since I first watched Michael Flatley's Riverdance, I've always loved it! I also love the music. ❤❤
He is brilliant
wow this is great! I really love his style of dancing from that time. It actually looks really lovely when he keeps his arms done and his posture very upright.
Brilliant dancer even way back then. R.I.P. Martin Fay Fiddle & Derek Bell Harp.
Paddy Maloney rip now too.. founder of the Chieftains
Great dancer and lovely soothing voice. I love listening to him talk very easy on the ears.
For some reason I come back and watch this video occasionally - he is perfect
OMG
I loved it!!!!
This is amazing!!! I like him much more in this way!!
Incredible talent
beautiful dancing
this vid is from series of gigs the chieftains gave in belfast in 1984, i believe. By chance i have it on a VHS cassette - someone grabbed the concert from BBC Nothern Ireland.
Great dancer xxx
now we can see whay he IS the lord of the dance :)
Who's that lovely humble man
Great,
always the Amazing Michael Flately..

If you turn the sound down and watch this its like a Monty Python ministry of funny walks sketch.
awsome daning from mr F-so light :)
He will go a long way
Fabulous
Great upload!!
Or mid to late seventies. Saw this tour in Detroit ... before Michael Flatley was Michael Flatley.
aaa! super! Great video! thx for posting!
Grand.
I thinkhe was amazing. If you cant do irish dancing dont put him down. His feet more faster than i can blink.
You can see in Michael's dancing his American influences; he's not as Celtic in style, if you will, as the standard Irish dancer goes. It was a prelude to what was to come!
@Peacelily were you there then?
This is so Irish it hurts 👍
He just great
Much More than 11 years ago.
He is very very young here.
He was all rigid arms here but later went more relaxed like nos.
WOW.
Wow when was this? He looks so young!
Is that a mullet that Michael Flatley is sporting there....? He must be about 17?
Does anybody know who this clip originally came from, Where was it first broadcast?
Not a clue, but it was between 1979, when Matt Malloy joined the group and 2003 when harpist Derek Bell passed away. That's a 20+ year span, so not much help.
👍👍👍👏👏👏💐💐💐
A very young Michael.
Perfect technique, but oh! those white sox! Mrs. Tiernan (Adelaide) would never have let him get away with those.
Not me. He did a wonderful job, but I like him better now. He brought something new to the dance, and besides, I think he is more handsome now than he was when he was younger.
@Ryan8583 because it is fucking awesome, JUST LOOK AT THE GUY! he is tap dancing :D
So he was like the Bez of the Chieftains?
Please
What year is this from? Early 80s?
1984 I think.
Dylan doctor I promise you I will do you good for Ireland I want to do tap dancing just for you and Michael Flatley
I guess this was Flatley when he was just a dancer...before his head grew to be larger than his feet.
+Olen Soifer lol i dont know anything about his reputation but it seems like when someone makes it big the do let it get to them so with that said, assuming that's how it is/was with him, that was a funny line.
He’s not really the egomaniac everyone says he is. Sheesh. Sad that people have to be so hateful.
He was not just a dancer back then. He was/is also All-Ireland flute 1975 and 1976. Sometime later he had the best selling flute cassette recording of all time. Have no idea if that record has held up.
IF I HAD HIS TALENT AND APPROX 300 MILLION IN THE BANK , ID HAVE A HEAD LIKE A HUGE FECKIN PUMPKIN!/
Todos en nuestra familia nos preguntamos por qué los brazos pega al cuerpo...ya sabemos por qué, es por la pleitesía que deben rendir los irlandeses a los ingleses
Sooo, this is Chandler's greatest fear??
Still holds the record for 35 taps a second
Count from one to two and tell me if you can fathom 35 Taps in one second.
He looks better with his arms down : )
absolutely stunning footwork...but he's right, the rigid arms don't suit him...
غوريلا أخطر مشرمل في العالم

no, without him and the eurovision contest it would not have progressed
lol why did 2bc like this ?
go hiontach
Even when the Chieftains visited Dartford, Kent, MF couldn’t resist raising a political tight fist after every dance. I was there, I saw it.
but he took the money though
Thankfully he's retired
