    Before you glue the nail on, it is a good idea to disinfect the nail plate with isopropyl alcohol to prevent nail fungus (pseudomonas) from forming.

      Yes, you are right Marta. I should have been more scientifically accurate in my comment: Nail fungus (Onychomycosis) OR Pseudomonas (bacterial infection) can be prevented by disinfecting the nail plate with isopropyl alcohol.

    I do this with tips instead of full press ons. I glue the tips and file it to my nailbed so its smooth then put my favourite shellac polish on. Lasts FOREVER and you dont really get that gap when it grows out.

    • @ShooUtau
      @ShooUtau 7 лет назад +37

      samanthaa238 I use tapered opaque ones and cut and shape to my style, usually coffin shape.. I've had the big box for years they last so long im not sure the price but im sure I got it at Sally. you can find them at Walmart too I believe. I own a uv machine so I do shellac colour at home (I usually add an extra coat of base and topcoat for strength) works amazing!

    I just recently started wearing press ones and I love them! I use the same exact glue as well. I would recommend buffing your nails with a nail file to ruff them up a little. That's the only way mine will stay without having one or two pop off throughout the day! They last about 2 weeks

    I 100000% agree that using press on nails like this is better than acrylic. My natural nails are long like the press ons shown so when one breaks I'll go ahead and pop a press on one on till it's long again. They're a lot less damaging than acrylic or gel. My tip for anyone who cares more about the health of their nails than the long look is to put a coat of clear on before you glue the falsies. It doesn't stick them as strong but really protects your nails from going flaky :)

    • @xkaylieghh
      @xkaylieghh 7 лет назад +19

      Kiaya Bass I wear acrylics almost constantly (I do them professionally) and I disagree. What's damaging about having acrylics done by certain people is that they file down your nail bed way to much! And when tips are used for extensions the glue rips up layers of the nail if not removed properly. Whenever I remove my acrylics (mine are done using forms/sculpted, not used glue on tips) they are completely fine and healthy 😊 blame the nail tech for bad application and removal, not the actual product 💅🏻

    • @crystalwilliams6164
      @crystalwilliams6164 7 лет назад +6

      Kayliegh Chadney it's been proven by doctors that the best option would be press ons but whatever you choose do it in moderation the way they apply and take it off is a contributing factor

    • @Nooooooo163
      @Nooooooo163 7 лет назад +6

      crystal williams proven by what doctors? As a nail professional, I've never heard this. Popping off press-ons is far more damaging. As long as the manicurist is knowledgeable in acrylic application and removal, there is absolutely no damage to the natural nail.

    • @seren.nolasco
      @seren.nolasco 7 лет назад +1

      Kiaya Bass one of the main reasons why your nails may be weak, thin, and damaged is either the application was wrong, or people rip or chew off their acrylics. The removal is done wrong. You are supposed to soak them off completely.

      :D yay thank you! My natural nails are long too. I want to switch up my look without permanent change. So I bought the press ons... I was actually thinking about putting on a clear coat before glue, looked around the internet couldn't find anything. I am thinking about using the sally Henson hard as gel clear coat. Any suggestions? How long do they last when you put a clear coat on first?

    I do this too but I buy mine from eBay for like $3. I also stick them on an orange stick with tape and paint them before I glue them on my nails so they look really clean! People always assume I get mine done at a salon but I do them myself! The only thing is you need to be so careful when you remove them. I used to just pop them off and my nails were starting to remove from my nail beds. I just soak them off in acetone now

    I do acrylics and seeing your title it's was a little disceaving. Also press on nails are the ones you buy that have the gel sticky on the inside. they last a week or two and recently they have really steped up their game. I just find they are not long enough for my nail beds. the one's your using are just glued on nails. I know it sounds weird but thats the difference. plus press on are less damaging compared to glued on nails. I loved the trick with the French nails, beautiful job!

      She said it after I left the comment and it's VITAL- find nails that fit YOUR nail bed. I tried press on nails for years that were too rounded and they would pop off within ten minutes. Pitiful. I was in my mid thirties before I found wide bed nail press ons. They stay fine!

    • @catherinecarranza7224
      @catherinecarranza7224 7 лет назад +6

      Jessica Huwite this happens with any nail extension as long as the nail is prepped correctly before attaching the extension there should be no water build up. prep and making sure the press on nail is to the shape of your natural nail helps a millions. If someone has special nail beds acrylic or gel is more appealing for customizing but there's nothing wrong with press ons I always tell my clients options

    • @MissJessicaHarlow
      @MissJessicaHarlow  7 лет назад +11

      +Sixty63rd remove the polish like you would your natural nails. trim them down to your natural nail length. Get a small cheap glass bowl you don't care about ruining (you can reuse it for this purpose indefinitely but don't eat out of it lol), fill it enough that you can cover your nails with 100% acetone, and just soak your nails. One hand at a time. You soak for about 5-10 mins, wipe away with a paper towel, and keep soaking until its almost all off. Then do the other hand. I recommend one hand at a time as when it dries (and it dries quickly) the plastic & acrylic harden. Watch a tv show while you do it! Lol you can buff away any left over acrylic if you need to.

    • @lauravsthepage

      I tried painting them first before, i found it to be a complete mess and took much longer.

    • @MissJessicaHarlow
      @MissJessicaHarlow  5 лет назад

      painting them on before can be counterproductive. if you accidentally put a little too much glue it will end up pouring over the sides of the nail, dulling the polish. you’d end up having to do another topcoat, if not removing and repainting the whole polish from scratch. 🤷🏻‍♀️ if it works for you, go for it. But for some of us it’s harder.

    its so out of line to say "stop WASTING your money in a salon" and so disrespectful to us cosmetologist who work our ass off not only going to school and paying for our education but making sure you are in a nice, safe ,comfortable place with A/C enough mirrors ,bathroom etc. We all as professional take a lot of effort and dedication to follow health procedures .We dont only make your nails pretty, we cure, sanitize, help, improve and treat your hand, foot, face or area we are working on. I do support DIY education but it will never EVER be the same. You are NEVER WASTING your money, you are paying for a great service and location. Please a little more respect for those of us who are passionate about serving and helping people.

      Sunniedew A "license" does not make you professional. There are a lot of people who can do hair and nails better than someone who went to school to learn the profession.

    • @eveieteatoo
      @eveieteatoo 7 лет назад +3

      mxxsade also true. there's good and bad (risks) in both someone licensed or not. However when you go to someone licensed and they mess up, you can get better business involved to make complaints easier than you could when going to an at-home station of someone who isn't established as a professional. It's not just for their protection, it's for yours as well. though I've heard a lot of shady nail salons bring real trashy with customers. thankfully the one where I live is amaaaaazing, and if they mess up they go above and beyond to rectify it.

    You have good nails that seem like they could grow so why aren't you doing that? Please respond. I used to wear press-ons briefly, because I couldn't get used to one falling off from wearing them, the feeling made me cringe like my actual nail peeled off but without pain-just a weird feeling HAHA.

    Waste money? If a person is providing a service, and it's well done, then you've not wasted a dime. It sounds like you've been to the wrong salons, with the wrong techs. As a nail tech, I know first hand how hard a person has to work to stay updated in this costly industry, not too mention the daily goal of meeting people's expectations. Which sometimes can be extremely demanding. Cool, you wanted to do a vid to show people how to do their own nails, but don't take this shit out on us.

    girl yes! I did glue ons for so long too...if my nails don't look good, I feel like crap! although recently I went to get my nails done and I got a powder manicure (the brand was ANC) and holy shit...had them on for a MONTH and they didn't chip, or lift like acrylics, or even lose their shape! it was magical. it's super expensive to get them done in the city though (I paid $80 at a salon last week for a different brand of powder dip), so I've got my amazon cart full so I can start doing it myself!
    your videos are always so helpful, I love how you just jump right in! keep being awesome :)
