Hello there! Some of you have asked for a link to the big ferro rod in the video. Here it is: bull-hansen.com/gear-i-use-in-my-videos/ Scroll down to "Fire starters and fire kits" and you will find it there.
There is also a tiny spec of the same material as a Ferro rod inside of a Bic lighter. You can often unfortunately find them strew about in nature particularly near roads and highways. You can use an empty one as a Ferro rod similar to the last technique. You strike the flint gently over your tinder to rub the Ferro material onto the tinder, and then when you strike it more intensely it will light the small pile of material that you rubbed off. In a pinch you can also use a rock to scrape some of the plastic off the body of the Bic to get instant all weather kindling. Just a tip for anyone who finds themselves with an empty lighter in a survival situation.
Thanks Bjorn! I’ve actually wanted someone to show some simple techniques in a video. I want to use the back of the knife but wasn’t sure on safely doing so.
Your knife must have a sharp, 90 degree angle to scrape with. Many don't sharpen the spine. Use a hand file. Check for RUclips videos for more details.
@@paddric9346 It might be the forest is to thick and soft, therefore the half log most likely adds stability. First time I walked in Swedish forest I was truly surprised by how thick the moss was and it was like walking on green sponge about 6 cm or more thick.
Hi Bjorn for teaching me something. I am chuffed because I just received my new Joker Nomad 6.5. My first knife. what is the best use for the serrated bit at the flat of the blade next to the handle (Yes I'm at the very beginning of my bushcraft journey) I nearly have all the equipment to go on a trek but believe to keep building my knowledge of bushcraft. your videos are invaluable. thanks .
Curious what kind of boots you got. I usually wear altras and i like em but even just using them as hiking shoes find the tread wears out rather fast compared to solomons but like to try new stuff
That was interesting to see the methods compared to each other! I have watched already, in your other videos, how you are doing this, but the third method was new to me. Thank you for showing, this is important to know! How is this with these ferro rods: can they be used unlimitedly, or are they used up at some point of time?
Just an hour or so before you uploaded I was looking for a place to order one of those big ferro rods ! Where did you buy that ? If you bought it Norway ? Skål
Gather tinder lots of tinder and experement with different tinders. When you can build a fire with a single spark (less resources, less time, less position give away, bette! its a cool challanger reliability) the next step is a random piece of steel, and almost any rock will throw tiny sparks. can you build a fire with those sparks? try it
There is something in your beard! I hope your ferro-rod does not set it on fire. Can't find anything like those rods in my area. Maybe I will order one.
Theres a massive conundrum i have with ferro rods. You have to buy them.....right.? So why not flic a bic.? Why struggle ..? Like those people who shave with a cut thgoat razor . Or those people who have coffee machines that look like a space craft and cost thousands. KISS

Also smart to keep your tinder in the beard to keep it dry! Gonna do that too😉
I have dried my matches in my beard. Yes it works but be careful. LOL
This is Bjorn doing something normal to restore his sanity
Excellent
Straight forward, simple, concise instruction. Grateful for this video. Especially like the continuous sparking technique for the birch bark 👏

Glad you liked it!

Hello there, kpheathen!
@@BjornOutdoors Is that Hay on your beard in this video?😎
We could safely say that this video rekindled my interest in learning firemaking.
Thanks Bjorn! I’ve actually wanted someone to show some simple techniques in a video. I want to use the back of the knife but wasn’t sure on safely doing so.
We need bjorn chocolate coffee recipe
Thanks for the informative video.
I've been thinking about giving the ferro rod a try.
What a coincidence I just came home after buying a Ferro Rod. I usually use fire steel and flint, but wanted to try a Ferro too
If you have a Swiss army knife with a saw on, the back of that rips sparks as it has a kind of lip on it.
That was interesting, I did not know what they were. Thank you.😊
Making fire videos are awesome.
My ferro rod came w the same small scraper. I like your idea of using back of knife much better😊🎉

Very cool item, I never knew of. Nifty!

Thank you 👍
My ferro rod is small, and came in a small plastic case. It includes a round strikerscraper. My favorite tinder is butane. It is called a Bic lighter.
😂
Great job. Big old sparks everywhere.
Thank you
THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And thank you!
Thanks for sharing your technique😎👍
Also can use a torch striker along with tinder acct
I bought one month's ago, but no clue how to use it, so thanks Bjorn

Did we interrupt your roll in the hay Bjorn?
Hello Bjorn, thank you for your videos, I enjoy them all. May I ask what type of boots you are wearing in this video? Thank you, stay strong.
There is a link to my gear list in the video description. Thanks!
Do the rods eventually wear out and have to be replaced?

And thank you! Without having seen the knife, it seems like that is structure near the handle is for the thump to rest upon when you use such grip.
@@BjornOutdoors thanks Bjorn. I will ask questions even though the answer is obvious to many. Questions give answers. All the very best.

I have several, but the small one there is getting quite thin in the middle. It takes a long time before it breaks.
@@BjornOutdoors Thank you for the info!
Glad the tinder in your beard didn't catch a spark and ignite! 🔥
Do take care. USA
Where did you get that yellow ferro rod?
Link to my gear list in video description.
What kind of shoes are those?
Barefoot Boots. Bjorn did a video on them a few days ago, they look really comfy.
It'd all on my gear list, link in video description.
Maybe put a link of the ferro you have so others can buy that same one ! 🙂

I was wondering if you have any lakes where you hike and camp? If so, do you fish?
👍🔥
Great information! You didn’t include your beard detail in the “Tinder” video…
It's extra emergency tinder!
I carry a bic...but that's me.
Cannot identify a ferro rod 😔 so I will find one! Takk
tack så mycket
