      It would be very profitable for them to built a limited amount of the classics but with away that doesn't affect the old ones value

    Believe it or not I owned the very first E24 BMW M6 imported into the US. Royal blue with grey leather. Vin #0001, check the M registry, I am the owner from Washington DC, only had it a year. My car was rare in the fact that it didn't have power seats or the rear air conditioning console. I still regret selling that thing. Cool video.

      sherman3211 what made you sell it in the first place.

      I don't think the US M6 is a real "M6" - Just a heavier, lower powered luxury version of my M635CSI.

    Thanks for the memories. I had an 88 M6 red w/tan interior. It was also first owned by a doctor. Drove it for some 15 years. Dinan "chip" took the hp from 256 to 286. OEM TRX tires were losers. The "mesh" wheels were gorgeous but a bitch to clean. Car was quick, fast and a bit thirsty but who cared. It was enjoyable as my everyday driver and ate up the miles on long trips. The exhaust note was distinctive and even if it had not stood out in a crowd you could still find it by its sound.

    Europe never had an E24 M6. It was the M635CSi.
    The wheel of the black one where not available for the E24. They became available on the E36 M5 and the E31 850 CSi.

    • @ComandanteJ
      @ComandanteJ 9 лет назад +1

      +TheBimmerfan They are very pretty indeed, but... BMW M1? ...BMW 507? hehe. I also love the E46 M3, timeless design.

    • @TheBimmerfan
      @TheBimmerfan 9 лет назад +2

      ComandanteJ Yeah, M1 is great - the only BMW supercar ever, but TBH they are so rare to see on streets, right? 507 is a great classic car, but being from the 1950s it's also almost impossible to see it (except if being a rich collectionist) and about E46 M3 I absolutely agree with you - IMO M3 E46 CSL is the best BMW ever build. For my taste E46 was the last good 3-series.

  • @rjscott6116

    The classic will appreciate, the new one will deprecate, and that's all for a very good reason. Plus, the twins are in my two favorite colors! Lovely ladies they are... I wish BMW style could go back there, or at least use the shark nosed, simple, clean, elegant lines of the e24 as their design inspiration. Not as copy cat as Porsche, but with the best parts leading to a new generation with clearly visible, easily definable cues from this, maybe some e30 hulk-ism, with the cleanness of an Alpina b10 tossed in there for good measure... That's a beautiful, fantasy car for many, I'm sure. I hope I will always be dreaming of what that proudly prodigious, yet purposefully powerful, portrait of perfected performance, uncluttered, fad resistant because it is steeped in such a heroic history, timeless, classic BMW muse could inspire.

    Some advice for your following videos, when doing the interviews with the owners you may try to shoot from an angle were the car fascia can be seen, or at least more of it. In this case it was very interesting to hear them but at the same time I wanted to apreciate the beautiful design he was talking about. Thanks!

  • @dahose01
    @dahose01 11 лет назад

    Actually, the first year the M6 was imported into the US was 1987. Not only was it the first, it also had a leather dash and is the only year made that way because the leather would shrink and deform the dash. So the 1987 was changed back to a vinyl dash. My 87 still has the original leather.

    • @gdenon

      Correct, the M635CSI is called an M6 because it's short for M635CSI - Also has bout 40 more hp, and weighs considerably less. - the US M6 is more of a luxury car than a sports car.

    That new m6 might have twice the power but look at it... it just looks like all the other no descript jelly Mould cars, no shape or style or nice lines, you couldn't stand back and look at it and think, "yea I've got a good looking car".With the old ones you'd be just waiting to catch glimps of it in shop windows as you smoke round, they drip with class inside and out and in 30 years will still be more popular than the new m6 will be when it turns 30

      Nick, this is the first year 1984 M635CSi Euro ! 84/85 M635 cars had the M88 (2:26 in video) engine while the M6, which did not debut until 87, had the S38 motor. So your dad's car was NOT an M6 but an M635. This car is badged exactly how it was from the factory.

    What a glorious noice those old M cars made, in fact any straight six made by BMW made a beautiful sound. Now its all been killed by electronics, [and turbos], and by comparison the new M just does 'LOUD' well, as do most hugely powerful cars. These old M cars were made in an era when BMW made cars, and made a profit. Sadly 'profit' in now god, and they make cars to get there. How else did they earn the ignominious title of the kings of the non-niche. It's one thing to find a niche, another matter altogether to go out and create a faux niche, then stuff a vehicle into it, all in the name of the god 'profit'. And the stupid egotistical game they play with MB of "oh I can do that",or "mines bigger/faster/heavier/MORE expensive than yours".........
