The shot of Taylor and post laying on the paper silhouette also reminds me of eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, where Joel and clementine are laying like that on the ice rink . The movie is about having your memories erased to forget a lover as well, so it makes sense to have a nod toward.
@@motherofchaos20 no need to bring up ES. Clearly TTPD was announced at the Grammys (Feb 4) and she's wearing the same dress in the MV whereas WCBF was released Mar 9.
I wonder if the scenes, where she has his tattoos on her face and he has them removed means that they became each other in a way. But because those versions simply weren’t who they actually are, it didn’t work out. I think this is being reflected by the blue and orange flame/veil in the beginning. They tried to merge but it just didn’t work, because I think merging would have meant one of them had to stop being themselves. I hope it makes sense!
I thought the same, also in The Alchemy there's the lyric "I'm the one to be" that nudged me in this direction...man I love that woman. Edit: nevermind, misheard lyric lol - still love her though
I thought the same thing about that tattoo on her. We all inherit forms of partners, even friends in a relationship. That's what makes them hard to forget ... but yes. They took parts of teacher other but it didn't work out.
When she’s wiping her face to reveal the tattoos, on the left side of her head (right side of the screen if we are looking at it) she is wearing 11 Bobby pins in her hair - this is her 11th album.
Dead Poets Society Spoiler‼️ ok in the dead poets society they wanted to be poets but their parents wanted them to be doctors as i remember and they were meeting secretly to read poems and Neil didn’t wanted to be a doctor he killed himself in the end and now just imagine after Neil’s death they chose to be like their parents (against poetry) and so now they are doing experiments on Taylor cuz she feels too much -sorry for my english and correct me if im wrong but i just thought of this and it made sense in my head
@@delightsomeijie4404you must watch it. Not only for the references in this song but my opinion is that it was one of Robin Williams greatest performances
Also there’s a point where you see the words ‘Master Control’ on the machine, in the room where she is getting shock therapy, made me think of her having control of her masters now! Maybe a stretch 😅 and the colors reminds me of the lyric in out of the woods “the rest of the world was black and white and we were in screaming color” ❤
OMG! I thought I was the only one think "the rest of the world was black and white but we were in screaming color" because no one was talking about it!
For me the colours from the typewriters symbolise Joe's seemingly chronic depression (she sings about it a lot) in blue, and Taylor's light and love in orange (callback to Daylight, Invisible String etc). Their colours tried to mix but eventually couldn't.
That's a good take. Also, blue and orange are opposite each other on the color wheel and are said to be complementary colors, but in the print industry, we avoid putting blue and orange together (like blue print on an orange background, and vice versa) because they are said to annoyingly "vibrate."
Clara Bow's Hollywood walk star is located at the corner of Sunset and Vine btw...which Taylor sung about in Gorgeous... "Whisky on ice, Sunset and Vine You've ruined my life, by not being mine"...
I had a different interpretation. Initially I thought it was about a lover and Post Malone was acting as the lover, but then thought that both Taylor and Post Malone were mourning their lost loves. Taylor sees herself in Malone and he in Taylor bc they’re both tortured poets. In the scene where Taylor was getting shock therapy by the dr, I saw this as all the men in her life who hurt her and Taylor part taking in self destructive behaviors, and Post Malone stepped in as a friend to help stop the self destructive behaviors. Then Malone is in the phone booth speaking with his ex love desperately reach out to her, while Taylor is mourning her own lost love. When Malone leaves the booth he and swift reach out in a manner of comfort and sympathy.
This is my favorite take, people underestimate platonic friendship in volatile situations for sure, even more so when the people in question don't share the same gender!
Regarding the black dog, it is often used as a metaphor for depression, a battle that Robin Williams, who starred in “The Dead Poet’s Society,” bravely faced. The use of this symbol in the music video could be interpreted as a tribute to Williams and a commentary on the struggles associated with mental health.
I thought I’d the way she essentially introduced this video at the Grammys dressed in white, the choker necklace and Lana in the Victorian black dress and the hug with post Malone. Masterful planning!
Post without tattoos is an Easter egg in itself…”I’d remove my tattoos, if that’s cool to you, I’d do anything to be cool to you…” from Overdrive on the masterpiece that is the Austin album ❤
Taylor took the "move on drug" to move on from Joe. That "move on drug" made her see Matty. Seeing her face with tattoos in the mirror similar to Post (that I assume was Matty). They bonded over music, maybe writing songs together, or maybe making plans for their relationship. Those colors that came out from the typewriters are those plans, like maybe planning a bright future together. Then we saw them lying in her silhouette like saying this was what she want, this is what she/they have in mind. But I also think it was not just about Matty, it was for every guy she's been with and also to her future lover (because he don't have his tattoos). She just wants to be happy, the two of them to be happy together. The scene when they are looking at each other and Taylor was looking confused, like she's questioning if all of this was true, if it can be true (I'm not sure on this one), but she still wants to hold his hand. The examination room.. and people are checking on her, torturing her (which was one way of healing the crazies in the old time) are the people who questioned her with her relationship with him. Like them saying she was crazy for choosing him. When she got electrocuted, he realized she was in pain and he also read the words "i love you it's ruining my life" so he saved her by cutting her off (cutting the electricity). Taylor mentioned in one of the songs that he ghosted her, so yeah. The telephone scene, maybe he tried calling her again, wanting her back but she's already moving on, sober maybe. That's all. There was definitely references to other songs from the album but I solely focus on what story she wanna tell us on this one.
For some TTPD promo before the album came out, she had a wall of filing cabinets. Apparently there were 72 filing cabinets (72 months = 6 years = length of her relationship with Joe) and 6 of them were open (again 6 year relationship). Not sure if this is the same as the scene with the burning files because I'm too lazy to count but I bet theres a connection there
Post Malone not having his tattoos (when they were happy and together) is like her way to show that she can fix him in reference of the song "I can Fix Him (No Really I Can)". However, as the video continues, specifically the shock therepy scene, it shows the he still have his tattoos. It depicts the last line of the said song "Woah, maybe I can't"... I'm not sure if he have the tattoos in the phone booth scene tho where I think she doesn't want him anymore.
Taylor laid on the bed in the asylum, looking like she was about to die. Then she took the forget him pill, the handcuffs that bounded her were released. Symbolizes that she just ended a relationship and tried to forget him, which helped her got rid of the bondage. When she looked in the mirror and washed her face, Post's tattoos were revealed. Symbolizes that this was her true soul. Wearing mourning clothes, she came to the typing department and the tattoo on Post's face was the same as the one hidden on her own face. Symbolizes that while she was mourning the death of her previous relationship, she met a soul exactly like her own, and that he did not hide his true nature at all. The two of them sat across from each other and typed. Two lights of different colours floated out from the typewriters and merged together. Represents that two people connected and exchanging affection with each other through writing (or writing songs) and it created sparks between them. In the highway scene, the two of them were lying on a large pile of manuscript papers, which was shaped like the silhouette of the typing Tay who was typing. It means this was a situation imagined by the poet Tay while typing. Post had no tattoos, and the two smiled at each other and then it turned into worried expressions. It means that the two love each other like normal people. But when she noticed that he had no tattoos on his face, she realized that this was not the real him but just her imagination. So all the manuscript papers scattered around just like the shatter of her imagination. She was studied by a group of scientists, but their treatment of her was torture. Post saved her by cutting off her pain. Symbolizes that everyone thought she was crazy when she fell in love with this man and tried to fix her in a way that tormented her. But he was the only one who understood her. Post found a phone booth in a deserted mountain and called her. He didn't notice that she had been sitting on the phone booth in the rain waiting for him. Symbolizes that the person he had been looking for everywhere had actually been by his side all along despite of all the public opinion. I tend to think that the prototype of the male protagonist is Matty rather than anyone else. He himself has tattoos, a style that reveals his true nature, and loves typewriters etc. Maybe Taylor was so fascinated by him being uninhibited and unrestrained that she admired.
You explained a lot but some have said the physical positioning of Swift and Malone is very reminiscent of the type of things Matty Healy does on tour and music videos as part of The 1975 music group.
The black victorian dress reminded me of the movie "Crimson Peak" .The main charakter is a blonde writer in the victorian era .Her lover dies at the end of the movie.
I feel like this song describes both Joe and Matty. I also think her flames are golden not orange, his are blue. This makes me feel like she is loving him in golden and him loving her in blue. A reference to Joe. Her love for him was golden and he didn't love her the same.
Her running to post Malone is just like her eras tour when she ran to Travis’s and the way Travis always holds & hugs Taylor from the back is also in the video
LOVE THIS!!! A few clues forgotten here is that she is laying with Post the way Matty lays with his mannequin/mold he brings on stage during his concert) and that during that concert people in lab coats come to change things in the stage or give him his guitar etc etc).
I feel like our english lit teachers beat us up so hard in the 90's and 00's that we are all instantly good at picking out the smallest detail and mapping into to some focused universe of TayTay facts. Our teachers should be proud.
When Taylor performed at 1975 show, the were people dressed in white medical gowns. One of them accompanied her to the stage. So, it was a part of 1975 performance…
Absolutely love this. So much to process . I haven't heard all yet. Can't rush this. But I am in awe of her talents. Natural talents and her entire life dedicated to working hard, non stop. Learning. Getting educated in all aspects of this industry and all entertainment. She also has a natural ability of connecting , understanding, encouraging, supporting, engaging, sharing, attracting, insights, visions, expression and being a generous, selfless provider, helping hand and genuine person. Omg. Yes. My mind is blown. There never was nore will there ever be anyone as genius and celestial as Taylor Swift. Wow.
The very last scene with the bracket is very Travis coded. He tried reaching out with the friendship bracelet but she didn’t answer right away because she was getting over this situation. His jacket looks like the one Travis wore in Dec and her dress looks like NYE dress. Plus the bracelet looks like one he wears. It zooms in to her reaching out and he comes out to stand in the rain with her which could reference peace “the rain will come if you stand here with me” and it he willing to do it. 15:14
That's LITERALLY what I was thinking. It is SO Travis coded at the end of the music video plus Travis was on the set of the Fortnight mv since Taylor DID mention in her VMA acceptance speech for Video Of The Year for Fortnight that Travis was on the set of the Fortnight mv.
The Black Dog is also the same type of black dog that was in her "Blank Space" music video. Might be a big stretch , but right when the dogs was showing she said "It's going to be forever or go down in flames" and a little more after that. Then in the new music video she said "I loved you its runing my life, I touched you". Not sure if she just like that type of dog, but they're all the same.
I love that Taylor can write about her own life with such detail and simultaneously allow the listener to relate with their own experiences as if she were writing about their lives. I’m a Gen X woman and can still relate. ♥️🎼🗝️
The two of them lying against a white background is also 100% a reference to the ice scene in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which is about trying to erase a lover from your mind.
The pills she takes are labeled “Forget Him”. The bottle has her birthday and this album release date on the prescription bottle as the Rx number. There’s a line in one of her best songs (IMO) “Peace” that says “But I'm a red fire, and I'll keep your brittle blue heart warm. If your cascade ocean wave blues come.” I believe that may be the red and blue smoke/haze coming off of each other when they’re at the typewriters sitting across from each other. She’s the red and he’s the blue. She couldn’t give him the Peace that he demanded from her. The paper cyclone around them in the street were pages out of “The Story of Us” book that she was reading while they were laying together on the paper profile of Taylor from “Style”. It not only came undone in the end, but their story was lit on fire and was finally and truly declared dead. When Taylor runs to Post on the street, they recreated the time when she ran into his arms at the awards ceremony in real life. The reference about Florida is that she and Matty broke up right before she went to her Florida shows on her current Era’s tour. You can actually see her crying in some videos from those dates. It’s awful to see Taylor so sad. She plays her instruments and sings very differently than when she’s happy. She thought she was going crazy. To help with an arch for this double album, she chose Clara Bow to a few of these songs. Ethan Hawk and Josh Charles, both are actors from “The Dead Poets Society (came out in 1989/also her birth year)” are her two doctors, along with Post Malone, who were doing research on her but he ends up stopping the abusive cycle. The lines on the EKG they showed for a split second were actually the lyrics for this song. She doesn’t miss any details. Everything in the video has a purpose to her; it’s up to us to figure out what she wants to convey. Lyrical genius vs NOT. LOL. She was also wearing a black Victorian Mourning Dress in parts of the video as yet another tribute to Clara Bow. There’s a song on the album called “The Black Dog”. It’s also one of the names of the 4 different variants of this album. I believe she saw her guy with someone else at a bar that was called “The Black Dog”. So, it’s a shoutout to another song. Thank you so much for your great reaction. You got most of these. I just copied what I had saved cuz I’m very lazy and I have been trying to figure this album out. Lol. They look and sound great together! 👏🏻🫶🏼🥰
If you only ever posted breakdowns of Taylor’s Easter eggs, I will still be here for them! Don’t worry about being busy off-line. Loved your video! Thank you for sharing your thoughts!!! Made my day.
This reference/story is similar to Sylvia Plath. She was a poet. Spent time in psyhc ward and had elecctric shock therapy. Remember, this is abt poets.
What if tattooed post Malone represents matty Healy and the untattooed post Malone is her memory of Joe… matty Healy was the temporary move on drug and their connection was made while working together like in the video where they are working in the same office… maybe a stretch but that’s what I interpreted
I learned how to type in high school on a typewriter like that and I can you she’s not hitting the keys hard enough to make them get to the paper, which gave me a giggle
The whole phone booth scene along with the lyrics gives me LWYMMD vibes. He's saying "Wanna to call you up, but you won't pick up." But she doesn't answer and my mind goes to "I'm sorry, the old Taylor can't come the phone right now. Why? Oh, cuz she's dead!"
The miracle move on drug is her rebound. And she’s typing on Matty’s typewriter about how she’s feeling about Joe….consistent with how this drug is not working, ie rebound not helping her get over Joe.
I was waiting for you to post because you always do such an amazing job! Thank you! I was wondering about the burning pages as a reference to this relationship being another Picture to Burn because it reminds me of that music video. Hope you enjoy the double album!
The two of them sat across from each other and typed. Two lights of different colors floated out from the typewriters and merged together. Represents that two people connected and exchanging affection with each other through writing (or writing songs) and it created sparks between them.------- The colors of the souls emerging is the Twin Flame symbol and colors. I think she is referring to Joe Ayn as her twin flame because Taylor is a Fire sign and Joe is Water Sign. Opposites Yin Yang Twin Flame tormenting because of the clash of the twin flames.
This is so much similar to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Minds. They move back and forth in time, with the same partner, different tattoos, she removes him from his memory, she forgets him that's why the blank stare when she is in black, but Post Malone remembers her. Then they intertwine again with the colors. But she goes back to get the procedure, but this time Post Malone interferes, thus the line you touched me and it's ruining my life
enjoyed education on easter eggs. first timer even trying. Taylor's music helps this Crazy Grandma connect with daughters and granddaughters living in different states. She provides strength through painful tragedy, poetry that seems to be written from tears hidden but never ending. THIS LOVE,,,,,,,listen she said......it's Kate....alive, chasing waves. laughing. Minds meet magically through her music . Songs ...so strong ....just a moment of memories ....in our hearts they live on.
I see the two rooms as her experience with her two heartbreaks. The first room (Alwyn) and black dress w post malone (Healy). The wedding dress cause that was perhaps the plan for them or perhaps they had alrady made those plans/were engaged etc. The ”univ. move on pill” IMO is just that, moving on with someone else. I see the malone typewriting scene as a healy reference (he left his typewriter at hers…). The Clara dress is a symbolism of still being heartbroken when meeting healy (as badly as Clara was) and when entering this Healy situ. Their souls do meet (color from their typewriters) and its magnetic! The next paper-head scene I see as memories of Alwyn (with what is probably a private reference btw the two and to the eternal sunshine of the spotless mind). clearly Post Malone sans make up is in the charachter of Alwyn to whom she is famous for the running into his arms in one of her previous tour videos. The looks btw the two (to me) indicates suprise, hurt and then possibly cheating, thus the ”I wanna kill her”. All while these memories are played over and over in her mind like torture (the frankenstein reference) as well as another probably private reference of ”the dead poets society actors”). Followed by release from both heartbreaks, one where she finally smashes out of her prison of pain, misery and sensation of insanity and the other, well she simply tears it out and burns it! The phone boot representing healy (tats back) and her being free, yet hiding away up on that boot and on her mountain of solitude and while healing in the rain from her pain, finally free having done the work.. she meets TK (superbowl ring) om post malones hand? Perhaps I’m all wrong. Thats what I got from it and the video speaks so much pain, it touches you and it is a masterpiece!
Okay 2 hopefully helpful points /philosophies for ya - 1. I believe yes, the type writer is related to the song The One and you made her point - the number 1 never existed, just like how he doesn’t exist in her life now and it never would have changed a thing had he not been in her life before (she would still be where she is no matter) 2. Then at the end when Malone is missing tats and she instead has them, that’s her way of saying…”even if you weren’t The One and you don’t exist in my life today, I’m glad your scars/tats live beneath my skin but no longer are seen in the road of life I see ahead of me”
Taylor has posted: Fortnight music video, I wanted to show you the worlds I saw in my head that served as the backdrop for making this music. Pretty much everything in it is a metaphor or a reference to one corner of the album or another. For me, this video turned out to be the perfect visual representation of this record and the stories I tell in it”. - The All White psychiatric ward - tortured with being the perfect TS & being with / breaking up with Joe Alwyn & seeking out Matty Healy. She is handcuffed, driven up the wall wearing her “wedding dress”(That Taylor wore to the 2024 Grammys - where she announced the TTPD album). Taylor removing her “mask” to see the real side of her that has been hidden. A rebel side underneath, hidden relationships, depression - even while touring at The Eras Tour. The medication “Forget Him” delivered upside down but the numbers represent her birth date & the TTPD album launch date. (TS quote from The Eras Tour Melbourne Show 16 Feb 2024. "This album, this new one, 'Tortured Poets,' is an album that I think more than any of my albums that I've ever made- I needed to make it," "It was really a lifeline for me, just the things I was going through, the things I was writing about," "It kind of reminded me of why songwriting is something that like actually gets me through my life." "I've never had an album where I needed songwriting more than I needed it on 'Tortured Poets”. - Then the transition in to The TTPD Typing Room Taylor is wearing her black “mourning dress”. Post Malone (aka Matty Healy) is typing “I love you it’s ruining my life” repeatedly. Taylor is missing “1” key on her typewriter could be a nod to her 'Folklore' tune 'The 1' - now it’s not there anymore. The colored energy touching between Taylor & Post / Matty could be a nod to her lyrics from “Illicit Affairs” in which she sings about her past lover “ showing me colors I can’t see with anyone else”. Then back in the Psychiatric ward, the EEG test results are the lyrics again “I love you, it’s ruining my life” is Post / Matty seeing she still loves him so he “pulls the plug” to save her. 👏👏👏😱😱😱🤯🤯🤯
Great video, and I love your references. I connected to the scene from Dead poets society when they stood on their desks to when she is on the table after she throws the papers everywhere.
I'm an old school 90s metal head....my kids are little goths they make fun of me cuz i love taylor swift lol. Not even her music although a few songs I do love of hers but HER IN GENERAL....I love her lol esp how she puts her cats in everything
Why is Taylor such a genius?! I mean, I don’t know how much of all this is a collaboration and all of the amazing artists she has on her team, but still… Taylor is a genius.
‘Tattoo kiss’ taking on Posty/Matty’s tattoos? Posty squinting an eye like Matty, ‘comment on my sweater’ = cardigan 🧶. Weather and sweater are in a 1975 song. Doing experiments 🔬 on her like ‘Down Bad’. 8 spotlights when she’s electrocuted = folklore, on which all songs are lowercase except My Tears Ricochet, The Black Dog is just watching it happen. 7 cabinets = Lover? The phone booth has Posty in a rectangle like Matty in 1975 logo…and like reputation glass boxes on Eras Tour and taking her out of her box? And ghosting since the line is ‘calling ya, and you won’t pick up’…is she the Albatross perched on the phone booth? So gorgeous 🤍
I think the meaning behind this video is Taylor. Swift is tired of people trying to read her thoughts and the only way she can express it is through writing.
Great video, thanks! I've learnt a lot. Oh, and the shattering of the asylum glass window reminded me of the ending scene of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
Did you hear the theory about this video being a not to The Wizard of Oz/Return of Oz? Forgive me as I’m not a Swiftie but really starting to get into this stuff, but the creator that made a video pointed out that TS has made nods to Oz before in videos. In Return, Dorothy is sent to a mental institution where she undergoes shock therapy, and like in the original, she starts to see the real people as characters in a fantasy. Look up Nurse Wilson, and you’ll see an identical dress to the black one Taylor wears in the office scene. And then of course the headgear she’s wearing in the shock therapy scene makes her look a lot like Glinda the Good Witch. Post is one of the doctors, and he saves her when the machine starts to falter. So! Is this actually who he plays- just a doctor she knew for a fortnight? Did she imagine their entire relationship and is grieving the loss of this doctor she idolized? IMO, yes. Two weeks is a pretty normal amount of time to be sent away to an institution (though that could range from days to years). Anyway, they could also be friendly neighbors, and still have encountered each other in the psych ward. Really interesting stuff! I’ve been a fan of Post’s music for about a decade now, but this video made me fall in love with him.
Vintage typewriters often don't have a 1 key and/or key 0, cause lower case L was used as 1 and upper-case O was used for the 0. 0 Key was introduced before 1 key did, that's also why there are vintage typewriters with it. Don't having these keys there allowed manufacturers to have save more space in the hammers area simplifing the layout and cut manufacturing / maintenance costs
I also loved that movie. I’m a fellow Sagittarius like Taylor, I get her. And I’m way older and not a swifty lol But she has grown on me. Great analysis, first time seeing your channel. 👍🏻😎
I honestly think the entire phone booth scene is Travis . He tried giving her his phone number and she didn't meet with him so she didn't get it. Then the whole podcast thing went down and they got to know each other on the phone etc...then the bracelet when he finally reaches out.
Reference to the Alchemy possible with the line “The hospital was a drag, worst sleep that I ever had” And possibly references to I Can Do It With a Broken Heart with her sequined silhouette on the phone booth, as well as the files “I keep finding his things in drawers Crucial evidence I didn't imagine the whole thing ? 😄
I'm cant get the bit of her on the phone booth at the end out my head. In the library promo, there is the Dianna statue which crumbled before it could get to London. Like the statue, she sits above everyone (as if on a stage), crumbling, until she touches him.
On 9:45 they’re wearing the exact same clothing. Like in her head they were the same, twins. Maybe that’s why he doesn’t have tatoos here. But it’s a fantasy, not the reality so the paper head is dismantled, the fantasy is over.
SHES ON THE TWINFLAME JOURNEY guys! And her album “clean” is the reference to her breaking the mirror and free from the illusion ❤💙 the red and blue coming out of the typewriter! The black and white resembling the duality of the journey like yin and yang. The poetry book of “us” resembles there journey. The mirroring “references” of the tattoo. Once you meet your twinflame, you never wash them off…. You can never escape them. OH MY GOD. I am a poet and I’m the twinflame journey, how my heart hurts for her. It must be so hard for her to perform all these songs about her twin and not get off that stage feeling defeated by destiny. I hope she makes it to Union. She’s not crazy….. she deserves Union more than the rest of us, and our tiny battles .
i get what you say and it also came to my mind that in Down bad she said "like i lost my twin" however she clearly states in a lot of songs and the epilogue of the ttpd album that this relationship with Matty Healy, her twin flame was in fact toxic and self destructive, so not healthy for her and now she is happy and a healthy relationship with another man for 10 months, Travis, so good for her!! In conclusion, it's okay to not end up with your twin flame.. there is in fact life and happiness after the end of relationship with her twin flame matty!
It reminds me of Diamond and Rust, though: And here I sit Hand on the telephone Hearing a voice I'd known A couple of light years ago Heading straight for a fall [Verse 2] As I remember your eyes Were bluer than robin's eggs My poetry was lousy, you said Where are you calling from? A booth in the Midwest
If you notice on the opening and closing title cards that read " Fort night " and " the end" that the top design under TTPD is meant to look like a cats nose and corners are mice with the ball of yarn on the bottom middle. A little cat and mouse action...
it reminds me of the lyrics `but I knew you'd linger like a tattoo kiss I knew you'd haunt all of my what-ifs´´ from her song Cardigan when she wipes her face to reveal the tattoos
I think the scene where she smashed the mirror is one of those two way mirrors where people can stand behind and observe. Because even though she loves her fans she does mention some aspects of certain fans who and super judgemental “creeps” always watching and analysing her life. Her smashing the mirror is cutting off their view? Let me know if you agree 🎉
This might not be intentional, but the scene where they are inside a tornado mirrors Francisco and Paolo from Dante’s inferno. They are two lovers forced to spin for eternity in their own illicit passions, always loving but never touching. That might be part of the reason for the touch in the storm at the end. The touch also harkens back to the electricity in the experiment performed on her to kill her, but now we see the inversion as she sits on the phone booth acting like a lightening rod, so we now have the touch of life (like the Sistine Chapel, but also a mythical archetype across cultures) Also, dogs traditionally symbolise faithfulness, so the black dog is infidelity, which of course with the timing foreshadows that her lover is also a scientist.
In out of the woods, she sings «the rest of the world were black and white, we were in screaming color» When that color emits from their type writers, they’re also now in black and white, but the color is pastel🤔 Correlation? I’m a new Swiftie, so don’t have completely grasp of the easter eggs just yet😅
Amazing breakdown. Whether it’s all correct or not I love how you’ve connected different aspects of the video and song to other things she’s done and what some things could mean. Btw Dead Poets Society would have to be my favourite movie of all time!
"Tattooed golden retriever" and here we have Posty being the goodest boy with his tatoos. Also golden is so often used to describe Joe but the tatoo reference seems to be referring to Matty. Could that be a comparison of the two? Matty's just Joe in different skin?
Excellent video! I did not see half of those Easter Eggs. A couple things I’m thinking: 1. Kim Kardashian- er, I mean Aimee- wore an outfit EXACTLY like both the orderly with the “Forget Him” (another eternal sunshine reference- see #3- I think) medicine as well as the typewriters in the background in the typewriter scene where she (Kim Kar- sorry, I meant Aimee again) was fully covered head to toe, including her entire face, hair, hands- EVERYTHING- in black on the red carpet to- I think it was the Met Gala? Google Kim Kardashian black outfit and you’ll see what I’m talking about. 2. Maybe the Frankenstein-like scene (though it references the Frankenstein movie yes) is a reference to Mary Shelley aka iconic Victorian writer/romantic poet aka author of the novel Frankenstein (which I believe she wrote in a what? Oh right, a fortnight) aka married to the romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley. Also, she wrote the novel (again, in two weeks) in Switzerland (by the lakes?) after a round of drugs and drinks and poet games with her romantic poet husband and whom? The ultimate romantic poet Lord Byron. Maybe this is a stretch, but then again she is the woman who wrote “New Romantics” and “The Lakes”, we know she loves her poets, literally. There’s an actual class about the connection between her music and 18th century English poet, William Wordsworth. 3. You guys! Am I super old or something? I’m Taylor’s age +2 months to the day (October 13, 1989; represent) but I don’t see a lot of discussion about the very obvious allusion to the amazing mid-aughts film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The reference is to the iconic scene when her and Post are lying on the ground and she has the story [of] “Us” in her hand. That one rings clear as day- the scene looks almost exactly the same- if you haven’t seen the film, the main character, a spontaneous, quirky, self-destructive woman (Kate Winslet NOT Rachel Weisz- thank you @sakunaruful I get the two mixed up frequently 😂) has a procedure done to have her ex (Jim Carrey) erased from her mind. He accidentally finds out she did this and tries to do the same thing but fights while having the procedure and loses. They meet again both not having known they dated before, fall for each other, find out they have dated and had each other erased… and I won’t spoil anything else for anyone who hasn’t seen it, but you should. It’s an excellent movie, that scene is a direct reference to it (I’m pretty sure it was not intentional that Ariana Grande put out a video based on that movie as well just a couple weeks earlier.) it’s very fitting a reference for TTPD i.e. wanting to completely erase your ex from your memory, feeling conflicted about it, remembering why you had them erased in the first place and all the bad things about the relationship, etc. Very on brand for TTPD. 4. The thematic references to snakes; obviously snakes are an imagery/metaphor used in Reputation. The tie-in with the Greek myth of Cassandra (which seems to very much be a sister song to The Propecy) is fascinating. Not really an Easter egg, but I saw a comment where someone mentioned the pipes resemble snakes and I am wondering if Taylor was thinking of writing a song about Cassandra even back in the rep era. The eternal sunshine reference I am certain about. The head to toe black outfit I’m 75% on being a reference to “Aimee”. The reference to possibly Frankenstein and Mary Shelley and the romantic poets… I don’t know. 50/50. I could just be going insane.
@@anitacacosta17acosta9 Thank you, I don’t think I’ve heard that quote before. Incredible woman very much ahead of her time, or one could say very much helped move the times forward for female writers.
I feel like people are missing the point a bit, this song and many others aren't "about Matty" maybe a couple are, but this song is much more about her heartbreak over Joe as is most of the album. Matty was just that rebound guy, when you lose your mind over a heartbreak and you're desperate to to feel better so you throw yourself into another relationship and try to convince yourself you're in love and over the other person but it doesn't work "The effects were temporary" For anyone thinking she actually was in love with Matty and that he heartbreak is over him... No. just no.
I agree. I watched a RUclips reaction to the album and the 2 girls kept saying a lot of the songs are about “Marty” and It wouldn’t make any sense if they all were because Taylor stated in her Grammy speech that she had worked on this album for over 2 years. So I’m guessing some of the songs are about her long time relationship with Joe and the heartbreak she felt.
They've been off and on for 10 years, they've been referencing each other in music for years, the entire Fortnight video references Matty and a 1975 video, the imgonagetyouback song is literally a response to fallingforyou, the song he sang to her in 2014. Throughout TTPD, she references real events and song lyrics related to Matty and the band, she literally samples several of his songs on this album. Y'all are looking for a great love and yet, this is all going right over your head...
@@cb533 the only person that knows who theses are about is her, she stated that this is an album that she needed to make and that it means a lot to her. I mean come on she was just in a 6 year relationship with someone , why isn’t anyone saying anything about that? it’s a really good album but I’m not gonna waste my time annualizing who these are about and go in to depth trying to figure out everything and just enjoy the music and etc.
She put me on such the emotional roller coaster with this album! I think you hit the nail on the head with your observations. I love the tattoo significance, I love post malone’s voice, i love that she’s so smart in her machination’s, and I love the overall aesthetic really. Definitely one of my favs on the album. I also really love loml, the alchemy, tortured poet’s department, but daddy I love him, and my fav: thanK you aIMee 🤍
great video! I'd like to add two things first about the pills she takes at the beginning 05:56 on the box you can see written FORGET HIM and 121389 - 041924 (Tay's birthday and TTPD's day of release) second 09:49 on the book it's written US so she may have been foreshadowing her featuring Gracie Abrams' song 'us.' (I don't think it was out when you posted this though) love your video!! and pardon my english
You missed one at 11:28 !! On the heart rhythm machine where it says TTPD, there dots. Theres one dot on the left and 3 on the right. Idk if its braile, but it makes 13 which is her lucky/favorite number! ❤️
I feel like the Victorian dress and typewriter are reminiscent of Nelly Bly. In 1887, under the name Nellie Brown, she had herself committed to an asylum in New York for ten days so she could expose the horrible conditions there. Her report on the asylum, and later reports, inspired change and she helped to pave the way for women in journalism. Her work inspired other “girl stunt reporters” and through their work they redefined journalism for the modern age.
The black dog in the foreground of the ECT Department is symbolic of depression and mental health anguish in general. It may also be considered a link to The Black Dog pub in London which relates to another breakup, referenced in The Black Dog song on #TTPD.
I think he’s trying to look like Travis in those scenes with Taylor, that’s why no tattoos. 🤷🏻♀️ maybe not but I don’t think it’s just a coincidence how much he looks like Travis there 😊
It's also VERY reminiscent of Michael Jackson's "Scream" video. She mirrors Michael Jackson's video scenes a lot if you know MJ...which I do. And he loved Peter Pan, she talks a lot about Peter Pan also.
Yup, did you listen to the new song "Peter" yet on the Anthology set... so good & again, reminiscent of "Try to change the ending, Peter losing Wendy" ✨️🫶🏻🎶✌🏻
Post Malone also has a lyric in his song Overdrive saying "I'd remove my tattoos for you if that's cool to you" Her running to him is the same visual of her running to Travis and throwing her arms around him. Also a reflection of her with Post at the awards show.
What is your favorite song from #TSTTPD? (Also forgot to mention Dead Poet’s Society was also released in 1989!)
Florida
Or fortnight
The Black Dog
so long londonnn
Down Bad and The Bolter
The shot of Taylor and post laying on the paper silhouette also reminds me of eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, where Joel and clementine are laying like that on the ice rink . The movie is about having your memories erased to forget a lover as well, so it makes sense to have a nod toward.
Yes. I thought so too. She probably didn't wanna be too on the nose about it since Ariana just did a video based on that.
This entire video has Eternal Sunshine vibes.
@@motherofchaos20 no need to bring up ES. Clearly TTPD was announced at the Grammys (Feb 4) and she's wearing the same dress in the MV whereas WCBF was released Mar 9.
Saaame
it's also evocative of the "Matty's Nightmare" section with Peanut during The 1975's most recent tour.
I love that!
I thought the same, also in The Alchemy there's the lyric "I'm the one to be" that nudged me in this direction...man I love that woman.
Edit: nevermind, misheard lyric lol - still love her though
And Taylor is removing her own “mask” & revealing another side of her
I thought the same thing about that tattoo on her. We all inherit forms of partners, even friends in a relationship. That's what makes them hard to forget ... but yes. They took parts of teacher other but it didn't work out.
I agree...her and Post are even wearing the same clothes and shoes when she is reading the "Us" book.
When she’s wiping her face to reveal the tattoos, on the left side of her head (right side of the screen if we are looking at it) she is wearing 11 Bobby pins in her hair - this is her 11th album.
And the other side has 15 Bobby pins, for the 15 extra songs.
And two of them are crossed with another 3 beneath like the roman numerals for 13
Is 11 albums counting Taylor's version albums?
Nope@@JessicaAchillea
Also one shot is like the rep face half in black and white news print
Also on the Tattoos not appearing on Posty. In his song overdrive he has a lyric “I’d remove my tattoos for you if that’s cool to you”
OMG, yes Overdrive - Post Malone
This is what i think about it when i watched this mv.

His album AUSTIN is one of my absolute favorites 🥰
Blue and orange cancel each other out, making them a color no one "else" can see

Wow!!! Thank you 😊

How?

Just here to say her and Post have amazing chemistry on screen (and their voices are great together too. I think they should do more music together.
And have you seen their discussions to/ about each other. Such admiration of each other. Talent recognizing talent. Talent lifting talent ❤
Dead Poets Society Spoiler‼️
ok in the dead poets society they wanted to be poets but their parents wanted them to be doctors as i remember and they were meeting secretly to read poems and Neil didn’t wanted to be a doctor he killed himself in the end and now just imagine after Neil’s death they chose to be like their parents (against poetry) and so now they are doing experiments on Taylor cuz she feels too much -sorry for my english and correct me if im wrong but i just thought of this and it made sense in my head
Your English is perfect and since i have never watched the movie thank you so much for explaining and it makes sense in my head too
This makes so much sense!! I love your theory!
@@delightsomeijie4404 thank you and sorry for the spoiler :D but still i recommend you watching the movie its a timeless classic

@@davidbonite5022 haha same!!! Yay I’m not alone! 😂
"Whisky on ice, Sunset and Vine
You've ruined my life, by not being mine"...
This is crazy!
I really like your interpretation. Im gonna go with this 😊
This is my favorite take, people underestimate platonic friendship in volatile situations for sure, even more so when the people in question don't share the same gender!
How would you explain that she has his tattoos after taking the forget him pill? Kinda makes it seem like it's about him
Regarding the black dog, it is often used as a metaphor for depression, a battle that Robin Williams, who starred in “The Dead Poet’s Society,” bravely faced. The use of this symbol in the music video could be interpreted as a tribute to Williams and a commentary on the struggles associated with mental health.
The song Robin 😢
Ooooh! I like
And there is The Phantom album release through Target
I think the pill is a rebound relationship (Matty)
@@ashleycarroll504 yes, i also think it is
😭😭😭 i agree
You're researching about old typewriters not having the "1" is true journalism. 👍
He is so handsome with no tattoos .either way. But i love how refreshing Post's face barefaced with no tattoos❤
Omgg that's exactly what I feel like
You explained a lot but some have said the physical positioning of Swift and Malone is very reminiscent of the type of things Matty Healy does on tour and music videos as part of The 1975 music group.
I think this is the best explanation I've read so far! Great job.
@@sara49543 Thank you :)
That was a fantastic explanation! Seriously, the best I have come across ❤
I watched ten reactions about "Fortnight" today, and yours is the BEST! This was so much fun to watch!
Thank you! ❤️
LOVE THIS!!! A few clues forgotten here is that she is laying with Post the way Matty lays with his mannequin/mold he brings on stage during his concert) and that during that concert people in lab coats come to change things in the stage or give him his guitar etc etc).
And that they are both dressed the same in that sequence, even the shoes
I feel like our english lit teachers beat us up so hard in the 90's and 00's that we are all instantly good at picking out the smallest detail and mapping into to some focused universe of TayTay facts. Our teachers should be proud.
Right? Hahaha
When Taylor performed at 1975 show, the were people dressed in white medical gowns. One of them accompanied her to the stage. So, it was a part of 1975 performance…
Such an Easter egg!!!!! Yes
If your cascade ocean wave blues come.”
I believe that may be the red and blue smoke/haze coming off of each other when they’re at the typewriters sitting across from each other.
EEG not EKG, those were brain waves not heart activity, it's a pretty cool way of showing thats what she was thinking in that moment
If you only ever posted breakdowns of Taylor’s Easter eggs, I will still be here for them! Don’t worry about being busy off-line. Loved your video! Thank you for sharing your thoughts!!! Made my day.
I also noticed in the "shock therapy" scene - the wires on the floor are laid out in S-curves likes snakes
. . . im clowning🤡🤡🤡
@@Swiftie13013lmao
Those s curves were almost everywhere 🥲I noticed them in lyric videos too.
And also them typing together could be a reference to how Joe and taylor use to write songs together in covid
But she goes back to get the procedure, but this time Post Malone interferes, thus the line you touched me and it's ruining my life
Taylor having his tattoos means “you left a permanent impression on me.”
enjoyed education on easter eggs. first timer even trying.
Okay 2 hopefully helpful points /philosophies for ya -
1. I believe yes, the type writer is related to the song The One and you made her point - the number 1 never existed, just like how he doesn’t exist in her life now and it never would have changed a thing had he not been in her life before (she would still be where she is no matter)
2. Then at the end when Malone is missing tats and she instead has them, that’s her way of saying…”even if you weren’t The One and you don’t exist in my life today, I’m glad your scars/tats live beneath my skin but no longer are seen in the road of life I see ahead of me”
Taylor has posted:
Fortnight music video, I wanted to show you the worlds I saw in my head that served as the backdrop for making this music.
"This album, this new one, 'Tortured Poets,' is an album that I think more than any of my albums that I've ever made- I needed to make it,"
"It was really a lifeline for me, just the things I was going through, the things I was writing about,"
"It kind of reminded me of why songwriting is something that like actually gets me through my life."
"I've never had an album where I needed songwriting more than I needed it on 'Tortured Poets”.
There’s a fine line between brilliance and insanity
Post and Taylor singing of Florida from the phone booth and then the song Florida which is kickass with Florence Welch.
I do love how you broke this down. I’ll be following for more.
Oh I paused the video to comment this and then you explained right after lol 😅
She smashed a guitar in anti-hero too. Great video
Another video said the black dress is a mourning cloak and she comes into the scene with the word mourning
(signs and symbols)
I also loved that movie. I’m a fellow Sagittarius like Taylor, I get her. And I’m way older and not a swifty lol But she has grown on me. Great analysis, first time seeing your channel. 👍🏻😎
I honestly think the entire phone booth scene is Travis . He tried giving her his phone number and she didn't meet with him so she didn't get it. Then the whole podcast thing went down and they got to know each other on the phone etc...then the bracelet when he finally reaches out.
Reference to the Alchemy possible with the line “The hospital was a drag, worst sleep that I ever had”
And possibly references to I Can Do It With a Broken Heart with her sequined silhouette on the phone booth, as well as the files “I keep finding his things in drawers
Crucial evidence I didn't imagine the whole thing
? 😄
I'm cant get the bit of her on the phone booth at the end out my head. In the library promo, there is the Dianna statue which crumbled before it could get to London. Like the statue, she sits above everyone (as if on a stage), crumbling, until she touches him.
Taylor Swift is my idol! I love her!
Haven't heard anyone saying this: but this music video gives me vibes of A Series of Unfortunate Events, both the 2004 movie and the Netflix series
Good catch. Also: Metropolis, The Bride of Frankenstein, Crimson Peak, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Probably others from early Hollywood.
She’s not crazy….. she deserves Union more than the rest of us, and our tiny battles .
i get what you say and it also came to my mind that in Down bad she said "like i lost my twin"
however she clearly states in a lot of songs and the epilogue of the ttpd album that this relationship with Matty Healy, her twin flame was in fact toxic and self destructive, so not healthy for her and now she is happy and a healthy relationship with another man for 10 months, Travis, so good for her!! In conclusion, it's okay to not end up with your twin flame.. there is in fact life and happiness after the end of relationship with her twin flame matty!
Thanks I’ve desperately been waiting for your video haha
Counted her hair pins - 11 on the right side, and some of them like 13 in roman number
15 Bobby pins on the other side, 15 added songs
After Post / aka Matty pulls the plug to save Taylor they say something to one another
Him “Taylor Swift” (?)
Her “My Daydream” (?)
The move-on drug , it's a reference to her relationship with Matty, which she went into trynna forget about Joe (forget him)
Phone booths don’t exist anymore, so perhaps throwback to first time she dated Matty
It reminds me of Diamond and Rust, though:
And here I sit
Hand on the telephone
Hearing a voice I'd known
A couple of light years ago
Heading straight for a fall
[Verse 2]
As I remember your eyes
Were bluer than robin's eggs
My poetry was lousy, you said
Where are you calling from?
A booth in the Midwest
If you notice on the opening and closing title cards that read " Fort night " and " the end" that the top design under TTPD is meant to look like a cats nose and corners are mice with the ball of yarn on the bottom middle. A little cat and mouse action...
it reminds me of the lyrics `but I knew you'd linger like a tattoo kiss
I knew you'd haunt all of my what-ifs´´ from her song Cardigan when she wipes her face to reveal the tattoos
She stands on the desk as the pages burn around her.. dead poets society they stand on desks
Loved your analysis. ❤ As a sports guy, I'm too dumb and lazy to figure it all out. 😅 Subbed!
Please do an analysis of all of the new TTPD songs! ❤
Yes PLEASE!!!!! Your information and delivery are great!
The place where the 1 key would be on the typewriter says "blank space". Maybe "the one" is gone and has left a blank space for someone new..
The Black Dog is the best
whilst Fortnight is superb for me ❤️
Amazing breakdown. Whether it’s all correct or not I love how you’ve connected different aspects of the video and song to other things she’s done and what some things could mean. Btw Dead Poets Society would have to be my favourite movie of all time!
I love your thoughts and breaking the video down for us. I can’t wait for your synopsis of Thank You aiMee!❤
A couple things I’m thinking:
Kate Winslet not Rachel Weiz was in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
@@sakunaruful 🤦🏻♀️ yes you are correct, for some reason I get the two mixed up all the time 😂. Thank you for the correction!
@@kelseybowman5463 You’re welcome.
Mary Shelley - 'I do not wish women to have power over men, but over themselves.'
No. just no.
I had the same take
@@cb533not to mention the crown, the telephone booth etc that relates to 1975 videos.
The color blue and orange make burnt sienna. Burnt sienna as a color represents warmth and stability so maybe that's what she felt being with him
She put me on such the emotional roller coaster with this album!
Best analysis I've heard!
great video! I'd like to add two things
first about the pills she takes at the beginning 05:56 on the box you can see written FORGET HIM and 121389 - 041924 (Tay's birthday and TTPD's day of release)
second 09:49 on the book it's written US so she may have been foreshadowing her featuring Gracie Abrams' song 'us.' (I don't think it was out when you posted this though)
love your video!! and pardon my english
Nelly Bly was an incredible woman.
I also wonder included with the Travis stuff if the tattoos have to do a lot with masking in front of others or something like that
Post Malone also has a lyric in his song Overdrive saying "I'd remove my tattoos for you if that's cool to you" Her running to him is the same visual of her running to Travis and throwing her arms around him. Also a reflection of her with Post at the awards show.
Oh interesting!
It’s also a 2 way mirror where she’s being watched but she’s not able to see who’s on the other side
I'm thinking .... Bad Blood Video ... I am also seeing Harley Quinn in 1st Suicide Squad vibe in this video .... I need Black Dog in the Eras Set....
