    I finally got this lens 2 months ago, and this is a very special lens for me, I usually use it in Sony full-frame camera and Topcon Film camera, and the image quality from this lens can give me a great experience. I love it very much right now!!🤩

    This lens has more accurate, modern color palette than many of the old lenses like the Meyer Optic Gorlitz's or the KMZ's.

      I totally agree with your comment. Japanese lenses suffers from less aberation, they are sharper from center to the edges, and the color is next to the modern lenses. It's their polishing techinques, just like the Pentax line-up.
      Thanks for your comment.

      @@red_code That's interesting, I wasn't aware of that. I assumed this lens performed so well because it's a bit newer. My lenses are mainly Nikon, old Pentax 50s and 55s, and some other radioactive lenses. I have a few old KMZ 44s and German lenses, but I haven't used them as much yet. I have a wonderful zebra aus Jena Pancolar 58mm f1.8 that has a distinct brownish/golden color palette, but I know that's from the radioactive yellowing. It would be interesting to see what happens if I remove that. I kind of like it as it is.

      @@umac76 In my opinion, don't remove the yellowing. I collect lenses with Thorium it's just for the "AUTUMM LOOK". Have fun.

    I have this lens, I really like it but it is less sharp than most 50 to 75mm lenses I own.
    It renders light beautifully though and work’s amazing with film but I feel it is not sharp enough for landscape and some types of portraits, while for other things it looks fantastic.

    • @red_code
      @red_code  Год назад

      If not sharp enough for some types of portraits, this results from the aberrations of the lens. The easiest way to prove this from your lens is to take three shots, one close to you, within an aperture of f/4 then, without changing the f/ stop, and the place that you are standing, take the second and last shot at different distances, being the last shot the further away. If between three shots the "bluriness" is noticeable, it is due to the lens aberration. This topic I will cover in my future chapter of Meyer lens, Primoplan 75mm f/1.9. Thank you.

      I think you might not have the best copy. Mine is sharp enough at f/1.4 at least as far as lenses of the era go. Way above average for the time. Of course, it will never achieve the sharpness of a modern f/1.4 lens with aspheric elements and other special glass types.

    There are a couple of these lenses for sale locally to me, but still out of my price range, a beautiful looking lens but won't be on my agenda to purchase as I currently own a Mamiya 58mm f1.7 and MC Rokkor 58mm f1.4, with Mamiya boasting 10 aperture blades.

    All the topcor lineup is way better than Nikkor, canon maybe equivalent of leitz

      I’m looking to build up a collection line of this lens. It’s a fantastic lens and I love a lot the shower of rays that this lens produce, like the Meyer Lydith.

      I have Zeiss Contax, Leica R, and Topcor lenses. Topcor is more Leitz than Zeiss, but they are unique in the compromises they made and a blend of the two. The build quality and precision are as good as Leitz but made with much lighter materials as the Leica R lenses are heavy. Also, Topcor made very small lenses physically more in line with the Leica M design goals. They also would allow curvature to increase sharpness in the middle at wide apertures at the expense of corners like Leica. They are much better with controlling flare than Leica R, which are pretty flare prone which is more in line with Zeiss. Pretty much all Topcors overcome curvature at f/8 - f/11, which some Leica lenses never do. Zeiss tried to make flatter field lenses. They are well color corrected and all have extremely low CA for the period, which is more in line with Leica than Zeiss. Topcors are contrasty and saturated but not as much as Leica. They are more like Zeiss in that area.

      Correct me if I'm wrong, but contrast is Zeiss specialty. Leica lenses are not having that contrasty look compared to equivalent Zeiss lenses, at least my Leica M lens.
