- Albert Hughes of the legendary Hughes brothers recently sat down with VladTV and talked about how the title "Menace II Society" was adopted from a student film that Hughes had created at LA City College. Hughes clarified that it was his brother's idea to incorporate the title in their movie, and he cleared up misconceptions about its origin, adding that it was actually inspired by M.C. Ren and CPO's "Ballad of a Menace," as well as Ice Cube's rap song "I Ain't the One."
Hughes also related his early days growing up in Detroit with his brother, African-American father, and Armenian mother. After his parents divorced when the boys were two, his mother moved them to California in 1980. Throughout the rest of the interview, Albert details his film career and responds to topics addressed in his twin brother's previous interview with VladTV. To hear more, check out the rest of the interview above.
This was an amazing interview
Y'all youngins dont know nothing about C.P.O. "Ballad of a Menace"
Very enjoyable and informative interview.
All Congratz to the Hughes Brothers.
thank you im so excited to hear this legendary interview.
Great Interview. Vlad is at his best when he actually let the guest speak
Agreed. Especially the Better story tellers. When he let's them cook, the food for thought is always delicious
ALRIGHT HERE WE GO, THE WHOLE INTERVIEW IS HERE, WELCOME TO VLADTV!!! Well this is your first time here, so I wanna start in the very beginning. Yeah man, it is, what it is... Albert Hughes, always a pleasure, until next time PEACE!!!
Hey he has his format and he’s at almost 6 million subscribers. Doing something right I guess.
And you’re still here watching.
@@jamesyoung422 I’m being funny, I like this channel
And Officer Glad says he invented those wordz, so no one else is allowed to use them, according to him...
@@velikapo4419his name is vlad he’s a RUclipsr not an officer..
I've said it before , someone needs to interview those twin bodyguards they must have stories to tell
When I hear DJ Vlad adamantly saying that he thinks Menace is a way better film than BITH I think of that Ice Cube verse “the white man is something I tried to study.. but I got my hands bloody”. Vlad can’t relate to the nuanced humanization of the black family experience and dynamics of the culture in black communities. Boyz was too emotionally sophisticated for the average white person to comprehend. Menace was a west coast hardcore gangster film which lacked the emotional compassion and complexity of the black experience. Truthfully, I love both movies and owned both films years ago on DVD. Bottom line is that Vlad exposes himself as just another white guy who gets emotionally attached to the hyper dysfunction of the black hip hop experience in America and profits off of it.
Great interview!
DJ Train is the DJ who he trying to think of when he talking about N.W.A
He's talking about DJ Train
Was looking thru comments to see what dj. Rip Train.
Alright, here we GOoooo!!
1 of the Hughes Brothers slept on movies is From Hell. The Book Of Eli is gr8 also
Love it Mane, This Was Hard
A memory of this stuff gets around......to speak of their movies.
Vlad we need that players ball picture 😂😂
Allen did what he had to do. As a young filmmaker I’ve met similar characters.
Well all the talkzon a Menace sequel.....is nothin' but a. "HYPE!!!"
It was Left Eye

The most iconic line has to be “what you say about my momma?”. The Bill Duke part was great but nah not the most iconic
I think American Me was the second best gangsta movie after Blood In Blood Out! Now that movie was bad azz and they covered a bigger time frame! A lot more emotional and a better prison movie!
Blood In Blood Out was cheap and had bad acting. It was like watching a Lifetime movie or a after school special.
Blood in blood out was lit 🔥🔥🔥
Nope. Adore was on Sign O the Times. Last song on the B side on the 2nd lp.
Under the Cherry Moon. Christopher Tracy's Parade-Sometimes it Snows in April
Great directors . Dead Prez is a classic
I’m surprised he didn’t like it
Menace and boyz are two different type of movies. It’s hard to compare. But menace probably wouldn’t have gotten made if boyz wasn’t as successful as it was.
Who ever edited this interview wouldn't let him finish his stories
the vlad kook dont let ANYONE finish thier stories and he tries often to answer his own questions himself trying to show he knows everything
If you're getting a check from SAG, you're a part of the union. Once you do 2 or more production you're a must join. I think?
How sir, do you run off and leave your brother? ALBERT!!!!
He said he the feds
Great Interview Officer Glad!!! You're Officially the Modern Day Nardwuar! 😂😂😂
His Tupac fight story is like some Pulp Fiction shit.😅
Maybe the Hughes Brothers should do another Tupac biopic.
When you confuse mosing with running lol. Miss me with that bullshit Sharif!
Can’t respect this dude for leaving his brother to get beat up 🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏼♂️
Yeah you left your brother Albert, you supposed to take those initial licks with him bro.
Another big reason American Me pissed off the Mexican Mafia is because Edward James Almos character wasnt killed by his own people
I would’ve rathered that he did NOT explain to his version of the incident between him, Pac and his brother. He sounds like he was on sherm telling the story! His version is straight out of a Wayans Brothers movie. 😂
That female rapper got to be YO-YO
Old Vlad was talking crap about Marlon wayans. And this video ain't got 50,000 views.... Ain't nobody come see you Otis
Vlad you're ok with the creative and the talent not getting paid fairly? That's not cool.
What's a great story if nobody sees them...
1:31:48 the scalp bleeds a lot
Vlad is a lively interviewer, but he tends to ruin potentially great interviews.🙄
Hope you guys saw John Wick 4, Vlad loose talking ass
Glad took a deep breath before he said *BLACK DIRECTOR *🤔
Sounds like he making up some of the 2pac shit dont it and it dont match up with his brothers side of it
Yo Vlad I have a very good story box hit guarantee. I haven't seen any new hughes bros. I love their work relates to dead presidents and menace 2 society. But it starts a Hispanic 8 yr.old boy. You relate this message. we all get paid. You can 😂 if you want or think about it. Opportunities come n go...😢.
Cool we get to hear about him leaving his brother to get his ass whooped 🐓
The way he described the dust outline of his body running away was vivid!
Lol
Yea he Frfr was just scared not this long ass story to water it down but watever
First
Word!! 💯💯
DETROIT 4 LIFE ❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥
I’m not gonna lie but I loved Dead Presidents over M2S! That’s an underrated classic IMO!
I would have to agree. Dead Presidents has a better cast (in my opinion) and it has a solid storyline. That courtroom scene still gives me goosebumps. Anthony exploding after getting sentenced, the reactions, the music build up, everything. Excellent film!
I agree, one of the most underrated movies the last 30 years

Absolutely
Love Hughes’ brothers films…First comment
I watched the Continental series and it was amazing. However, I think Albert is off with his timeline because it looks more like New York City in the early to mid seventies and not the late seventies to early eighties. Disco music’s heyday was from between 1974- 1980.
Sibling rivalry going i see, my guy came to refute his brother's whole interview
Like Guy and Joe Torry.
My good friend at the players ball
Tubi needs to see Pimp
Lol
I just keep picturing Tyrin saying “ that night ran to the freeway” while listening to his Tupac account.
Great interview
Sign O the Times is my favorite. What a classic
