I Won This Classic 90's Chevy Truck At The Auction! Should This Old 94 C1500 Get Put Out To Pasture?

- I bid and won this 1994 Chevrolet C1500 at the local Copart auction, and now I don't know what should happen to it. We are a full service auto salvage business so parting vehicles out is what we do, professionally(most of the time). However this one is tugging at the "save me" strings since they aren't making good old trucks anymore. The businessman in me says it'll generate the most revenue in parts, but I also know I could still make some money and perhaps give this truck a second chance? What do you guys think?
I own and run Importapart, a full service auto dismantler. We buy, process and recycle roughly 250 cars and trucks every year. Before I was a business owner, I was a car guy. I am still a car guy. I also remember the 90's with fond memories and many of those are tied to vehicles from that era. That's likely why the majority of our inventory is specialty based, and much older than others in the industry.
To check out our recent arrivals for parts, or look through our inventory go to www.Importapart.com or email us at Sales@importapart.com
If you find something on the site you can add to your cart, use code "Idocars" for 10% off site wide.
I really hope you enjoyed this video. As always I love all of the comments, feedback and even the criticism. Catch you on the next one!

"A tree fell on my house but here i am, in the rain, because i bought a truck" 🤣
My man!!!
Yu da man
We all would have done the same thing...
@@therealdojj I get it..
"Backup camera isn't working" on a 1994.
Was too funny!
Great find.
There was also a problem with the "Push to Start" button. 😁
A backup camera in 1994, if they had existed, would either have about as many pixels as a Gameboy, or else it would be connected to the same tube TV they put in the Buick Reatta. Or both.
Fix it, no question. Frame looks great, body isn't horrible, nice interior, sounds like it runs well. Maybe that's not the most economically sensible option, but that truck deserves to live!
Disagreeing here, part it out is the most economically sensible option.
@@kelviskelvis7140always more money in parts, but it depends if you need a truck. If you need a truck you can make more money with it than it costs in used parts
Fix it??? Why
Eric has way cooler vehicles, and already to many unfinished way cooler projects.
Part it out.
It’s what he does, in his profession.
You do realize Eric will sell it to you, sense, your so passionate about keeping it on the road.
yes i agree i think fix it up as the frame looks still like new.
Could you send me the water pump if it's still good?
I'll have the timing guides
Fine 😢. Then hopefully I can have the chain?? @@GemmaLB
I’m sure it’ll be fine! Lol
I got dibs on the motor oil, rub it all over till I'm oily and delicious

Someone watching this video will buy it as is for at least 1500. Quick money and you don't have to reserve space and time for it. Truck gets saved, won't cost you a lot of time or effort, someone gets a nice project, everybody wins.
Yup, offer it for sale to someone who wants a rebuild project
I would pay 2k right now in my area
@Google_is_Evil I love your account name! 😅
And yeah I agree with you. Could be sold as-is for $2k - $2500 b\o (start higher
ot lower, can always go down, can't raise price though) no problem. Maybe toss replacement fender(s) in the bed(I'm sure Eric has a few up in the rafters🤔)for the customer to change themselves. Anyways it's a nice older regular cab Chevy truck(OBS) so they are ALWAYS in-demand cause of that! 👍🏻👌🏻
✊🏻🇺🇸🦅
At the price automobiles are selling for these days $1500 is essentially giving it away. I see people asking $1500 for a roller with no drivetrain!
I just sold a 58 Chevy bench seat that needs completely restored for 2000$. Just the bench seat.
If the frame is straight & solid, save it.
I would rather rebuild one like this. Then pay $ 90,000 for a new one . Every part needed can be found online!
I did rebuild a 1984 F150 4x4 XLT. Just over $5000. No payments, and cheap insurance, and it doesn't cost much to license!
I would tend to agree with this... Even if you fix it minimally to flip it there's LOADS of farmers out here that would buy that up in a heartbeat.
I read that as $9,000, not $90,000. I thought "hell, where you buying a new truck for $9,000!?"
I second that! Or everything needed to put together a swap project is currently on this truck. From a Vega to an old Murc, the perfect donor truck.
This truck is pure gold, it doesn't spy on you like all new vehicles! Fix it, I would buy it.
Only one rocker panel and one cab corner, save that beauty! No airbags, no emissions, no problems!
It has sensors in the exhaust and an EGR valve I believe.
@@Zippadeedoodaa-nt8om but it's OBD1 so you can remove all of that it doesn't have to pass emissions
Keep the truck rebuild it use it as a parts truck
ah yes cause airbags are a bad thing
Get it back on the road Eric. Looks like a solid work truck for someone who needs it.
lol-solid-not even when new
@@bradzimmerman3171 that's not an accurate statement. one of these truck made 1.25 million miles. they were a great vehicle. reliable 4.3, 305 or 350. this one has the 350. many of these exceeded 300K miles.
That clicking sound from the dash sounds like an HVAC actuator motor playing up. Put a new one in and you double the value of the truck! The engine sounds sweet.
Yep,mine does that too, even a few seconds after you turn the key off, Robbie Layton can make that look brand new
Yeah, the air mix doors in the HVAC are usually driven by plastic gears which can lose teeth and get noisy.
@@gryfandjane Or the limit switch does not turn the door motor off when it hits max or min position
Can confirm, my 91 did it too
@@jeffclark2725 Yeah, I was thinking he should do this as a collab with Robby. Those dents are practically nothing for him and his crew.
I am crying. I had a 93 with over 450,000 miles and a 4.3 throttle body. It was my work truck. Extended cab with a 8ft bed. Took an act of congress to turn it around. My son in law totaled it when I was in Iraq.......... I am glad he was in jail when I got home...... It was too far gone to fix........... I am still crying. Semper Fi and peace be with you.
Those 4.3 from the 90s ran great. My dad had a Cheyenne work truck 95 with a 4.3. He hit a deer in it twice, totaled the front end in it. He put the motor and transmission in a 95 GMC and it ran great there too.😂
Yeah, mine was 95 ext cab in great shape, original transmission, engine and original teal paint. It was garage kept. My dad gave me that truck and he bought it new in 95. I replaced the radiator, fuel pump, intake gaskets and fluids. Truck only had 160k miles. Also had a custom stereo installed. A few weeks after doing the last of those things (fuel pump) some POS frijole package delivery driver pulled out from a side street in front of me and I didn't have time to react soon enough. T-boned his vehicle and the truck was totaled. That was back in the summer of 2017. Pisses me off because these trucks hadn't shot up in price yet but now they are expensive. Especially if I were to find one in the shape mine was in.
My 91 c1500 4.3 had just shy of 800k, original engine, rebuilt trans, I was the second owner, grandfather was the first, It would start up every day, little puff of blue smoke on cold starts but it wouldn't die Sold it because I needed something a little stronger. I bought a 92 5.7 truck, just shy of 400k when I got rid of it for a 94 suburban with 150k on it. Was too good to pass up for the price I got it for.
I have a 94’ K2500 with 315k. Ext Cab 8’ box. Turning is certainly not its strong point 😂. Replaced 2/3 of the sheet metal on it so I wonder if it’s the same truck anymore. She keeps plugging along. Owned it almost 20 years now. It’s a keeper.
The more the OEMs squash RTR and push proprietary software the more these will become PRICELESS.
That's bad, but not as bad as 90k+ for a new luxury car that looks like a truck.
My vote is to fix it. You nailed it when you said these are great trucks. This deserves another chance at life.
The best thing about that era of trucks is it is not contaminated with un-necessary over complicated electronics. Trucks only need to be reliable and work like a tractor.
except the electronic havc controls.
I'm all in with those who say fix it. That frame is pretty much minty fresh as far as cleanliness goes and it doesn't look to have any rust or damage to it. The truck itself looks to have minimal damage which is easily fixable. If someone wanted to they could just put on a new fender and paint it up to have the same two-tone paint job. It would be another story if the frame was rotted out, panels were falling off and the engine sounded like a bag of hammers with a chain-smoking problem. But it's all clean and the engine purrs like a big kitten. Or at least sell it to someone as a clean project vehicle. :)
Keep it deserves the love putting it back on the road better than the junk today
Eric you’re great at bringing orphaned vehicles back to life and giving them a good home. Fix her. Let someone else enjoy this classic.
Fix it! Way better than today’s expensive rolling computers. 👍
The rust on the cab would have to be addressed ASAP though.
That’s quite a nice truck actually. Whiskey dent left front, at least one impeccable cab corner, solid frame rails, good enough for the girls I go out with!
It’s a goin to town rig for sure
Keep your Vices tightly gripped....
Keep and fix… much more reliable than the new junk!
100% this I have 3 friends that have had to lemon law their 2019-2024 trucks gm ford and ram trucks .. all with less then 30k miles
I would hope that it stays in one piece and goes to a happy home.
That is an exact copy of my first pickup truck, right down the year, interior, and paint. Loved that truck. If it was a K1500 I would absolutely fix it up. 2wd can get useless here in Canada.
Put some sand bags in the back, you'll be alright.
Fix it! Fix it! Fix it!
as soon as you pulled it in,.... my brain said- " ohhh, you don't part that one out"
At one time, 60's and 70's chargers and Chevelles weren't hard to find either. Maybe these are keepers.
i still hang on to my 2003 bonneville SSEi and my 97 grand prix. both 3800's, both still in good shape. i dont drive them in the winter but drive them plenty in better weather. 3800's, just like these trucks are worth keeping around.
Hard call. It would make a good first truck for a kid.
Yeah. Perfect first automobile for a youngster.
Hard call? I was looking at one in far worse shape that was $5000 a week or two ago.
or for an adult that doesnt want a 80K truck in a lousy economy.
There really no reason to ask what everyone else thinks. We all know it’s a keeper
Nothing like having to push the accelerator half way to get it moving-yikes
Add love to see that old Chevy back on the road. A lot of people these days are priced out of the market for a decent work truck. You wouldn't make as much profit but you would still profit and possibly help somebody start a small business.
These are my favorite GM trucks. These totally changed the truck market when they were released. Not only are they the best GM body of all time, they were the first trucks that rode nice enough to be a daily driver and America became obsessed. If it were a K1500 I'd be more interested in fixing it up. Being a C1500 with good parts to rescue better examples, I'd part it out. My brother has an '88 K1500 GMC with about 50k miles on it in standard cab, long bed in the two tone Brown and Gold. It's not his original '88 because he wore his out, but it was a coworker that bought it new the same time he bought his original red and silver two tone. He also has a '98 K3500 Crew Cab Dually 454 in all black that he bought new with about 25k miles on it.
I agree. I still drive a 1997 Silverado Z71 three door crew cab. 5.7 vortec. 170,000 miles. Its my daily driver. Still runs like it did the day I bought it in 2000. These trucks will be the next collector trucks people will want to restore.
Hi Eric,
My Dad who was in the business for nearly 50 years always had a saying which was "you sometimes have to wreck out good cars to keep s#*theaps on the road"
Keep up the great work.
Huge fan from Downunder
truck is from weidner chevrolet anderson indiana which no longer exists. I grew up right down the road from the place. I prob seen that exact truck on the lot way back when. wish I could buy it.
@Junkyard Digs would take that in a heartbeat i bet!
Dalton at Pole Barn Garage is fairly local, and I could see him doing it too
It's got floors, it's far too posh for Dalton!!!!
@@Scottinqc shiny paint scares them.
Sounds like it runs well, frame looks very good, Chevy cab corners, always have that issue. A little love and fairly easy to find parts... I'd say she's a Keeper for a shop runner truck👍
OBS Chevys are going up in value. Regular cab short beds are the most valuable, followed by extended cab short bed and any 4x4 configuration. 2wd long bed regular cabs are kind of the least desirable models. I'd hate to see it get torn apart because it looks like a pretty easy fix. Throw a front clip on and replace the rocker/cab corner and repaint.
I had a 2000 S 10 V-6 long bed to this day when you start it up it sounds brand new. Testament to how things were made back then. I'd fixit up and keep it as I have a heart for OBS trucks as well.
All I can hear is bob seger right now, it's actually in really good shape given how old it is. That cockroach will live on a few more decades with some minor upkeep, I mean really like you said it's not a high value truck. Honestly I'd through a light in it and fix the coolant and go on, make a good farm truck, part runner, or Lowes truck. I don't think there was a single person in my family that didn't own one of these at one point or another. These and old 12 valve cummins were on every farm, making a name for the brands hell there still running a muck in most of the rural areas. My great grand father owned 2 of them and drove them until he was 95, both were W/T one 5.0 and the other a 4.3, I believe my great uncle still has the last one that was in great shape the last time I saw it. It's wild how nostalgic we are when we see certain things.
One of the commentators made a great suggestion. As you and your friend down in FL did for the woman and her family, what if you put together a consortium of companies in your area? The goal would be to get the SQB roadable. Then, either donate to a worthy charity in your area or to a tradesperson in your area. Either one of those recipients would be grateful; the utility, worth, and history of the truck will "live" on.
Living in Alberta where cars don't last, and most love reliability and simplicity over anything new, this thing is rolling GOLD
Squarebody and OBS Chevs are getting pretty expensive here
Man that things worth saving for sure, that's decent.
Looks like a great first vehicle for a country kid.
Or a city kid who knows what a few hand tools are!
No, a country kid will ruin this thing. This truck need a person who will take care of it.
I inherited a '95 Sierra from my father when he passed away and since then i have a soft spot for those trucks despite not being a "truck guy"
I have a '93 like that. 4.3L, daily driver, have owned it for almost 20 Years. A/C still works great.
I’d do a pole barn garage style “restoration” on it. Used grill and fender. Grind out rust parts and fill, quickie touch up paint job and clean. Used ac compressor and some line, Few hundred dollars and it’s a relatively clean driver. Oh and make sure to fluid film any areas to prevent more rust
that thing is mint! pull the fender dent out enough to put headlights and a grill back on and send it.
Save it!! I actually like your idea of pull the drivetrain and sell it to make your money back. Down the road find a nice 6.2 swap, some drop knuckles, clean it up a little and have a dope shop truck parts hauler drag week cruiser
Fix!!!!!! I’d kill for a truck like that. ❤
I would fix it, because for a northern truck, thats is pretty nice! Not to mention that sweet two tone.
Seems like it'd be a nice little nostalgic parts-runner for the shop, unless you already have a fleet of those. As a 2-dig, it'd look good down in the weeds for ride height. Heck, it's old, it's in fair shape, it can be low, and still useable as a shop truck - rolling advertisement on the doors. Nice find!
The salvage yard gems are always cool to see! I’d say if you have the room keep it as a roller for a rainy day. If you decide not to restore it I’m sure it will be worth a lot more by then.
I can’t believe you bought a vehicle that even has a battery in it. 😉😂🤣
What a cool old truck, love the colour scheme. Pretty good shape for its age, would be great to see it fixed up!
Fixit and gift it who are needs it! Like the Pentastar!
I just came into possession of a ‘97 OBS Silverado 2500 with just over 100k miles on her a few weeks ago.
Yes, these trucks are 100% the next square bodies. I cannot believe how much attention this truck attracts. She’s not even that old and there are many of them driving around town in better condition.
Several mechanics I’ve spoken to in my neck of the woods say all of their customers that buy brand new trucks absolutely hate them and want to go back to “old” trucks like these.
They’re rock solid, I’ve been told.
I say you should fix this one up.
Fix for sure. These trucks are great!
Lots of potential there to be a really nice, reliable truck for somebody. I'd personally keep it and restore it back to "good to go" status. Yeah, you might make more money parting it out but I think this one deserves to be back on the road.
Whom ever owned that truck really took care of it
In the final analysis, you're a business. If you can make 4x your investment by parting it out - it's a no brainer. Sad to see it disassembled, but you'll be helping someone else keep theirs on the road.
This is exactly what I wanted to comment. If there is no emotional link to repair it, then it's too much work to have one more like this back on the road. If it worth more in parts, then follow the business logic. Usually I am voting for save almost everything, but here I see too much trouble for no gain...
Part it out and let a few trucks live on.
Stop contributing to the Insanity imposed on Used Vehicles . Repair It and Sell It to someone that really will appreciate it .
Not just "someone else" but probably half a dozen or more others who are trying to complete labors of love.
Live on for sure!!! All the oil pressure and one headlight is all you need lol!!! Great find man!!! I love those climate controls of that era, I had a 93 that was just like it but had a 6 popper in it😁
it need an oil pressure sending unit. they do that, run the gauge up to the top of it's travel. it sounds good its probably more like 30-40 PSI
My great grandpa bought one of these new in 1989. It’s still in the family. Super solid truck.
Seems like a good one to fix up. That color combo is very pretty!
hope your house doesn't have too much damage!
Do the minimum to get that truck back on road. Looks like a solid daily driver.
Fix please. My favourite Chevy
That frame looked mint. Shame about the cabin rust. Maybe do a cab swap as mechanically it sounds perfect.
Save It! Click!
Brought back some memories here! My dad had a 93 with an extended cab and the 350. Learned how to drive in that truck. I think that one is worth fixing up.
If it were mine, I’d be hunting up front end body parts. Matching color rattle can paint. Check fluids, change oil and filter and drive it.
Sorry a tree passed out on your house, those are great trucks, I'm driving a 95 Silverado now
Underneath it's excellent. Nice frame.
Save it. It’s still better than most anything produced today
I see they got the GMC Upgrade Steering Wheel Option on their '94 Chevy - nice! 😎
SAVE IT!!! A tasteful drop with an LS swap would make for an awesome truck.
you COULD do that, but it seems like that 350 sounds pretty healthy. fix the cosmetics and run it. a 350 TBI is gorgous in it's simplicity. it might run another 100K+. if it aint broke don't fix it. i had a 89 camaro back in the day that had a 305 TBI, i swapped it with a 350 TBI and did heads/cam/bored throttle body and it woke up quite a bit.
No backup camera! Hahaha
I am close to starting on my grandad's 88 GMC 1500 longbed as my first project car, so I have a special affinity to the OBS. The TBI 305 doesn't run currently, but i'm hopeful I can massage it back to life. Couldn't imagine a 5.7! Keep it alive, somehow!! Or just send it my way! 😁🤩
Hard call. Agree with "Junkyard Digs" would want this truck. How about a collaboration video?
I would!
Dalton at Pole Barn Garage is close by…. He may be down with it!!!!
You might make a few royalties on the video that would pay you back more than parting out the truck 🤔
That's a beautiful OBS in that color scheme, especially for the Midwest, and the engine sounds great. I think the route I'd go would be to sell the engine and transmission to make immediate money, take some time to fix up the body, and drop an LS in it.
A fine addition to your personal collection!
Man, that's a genuinely gorgeous color combo.

From a business perspective, part it out. You'll make really good money, parts will sell fast. It's not a unique truck except for the color combo.
My heart says fixit, but you'd need both fenders, grill shell and grill, headlights, fix/replace core support, no point in painting it without doing the cab corner and outer rocker and fixing the driver door dents. Then there's re-commissioning the A/C and all the little stuff like dash actuators, cluster rebuild, tail lights, better wheels, cleaning it up inside. The parts are cheap but time is precious. If you try to flip it off to someone else as is you'll just lose out on what the parts are worth. Nobody is paying $3k for it as is and you'll come close to that parting it out.
I regret getting rid of my 97 Z-71. It had over 200k miles on it and the only weak part of that truck was the 4L60E. The transmission was rebuilt more than once. The buddy I sold it to put another transmission it in and is still driving it with over 300k miles on it. GM used to make great trucks. Used to make great trucks...
they also used to make some great cars, anything with a 3800 is super reliable..... now they make just about everything JUNK
Bonnet? Thought you called them a hood over that side of the pond. Didn't even click with me a first then I was like "what did he just say?". Nice.
Straight to the point. I don’t like gm built vehicles full stop. This is how I am. However, I think it should be put back on the road while parts are still available for it. The frame has no rust in it, so that would be a good selling point. The corrosion is easy to fix. By the looks of the transmission, I think it has the turbo 400 in it, though I might be wrong. They are a good work horse so to speak.
I'm the only owner of my 92 silverado. It 117 miles on it. Now it has 213k on it.
The interior color of that truck you're sitting in is the as mine! Color and pattern
I could use the passenger side arm rest, maybe I should just buy both door panels. The instrument bezel, the fuze box cover, the under hood work light.
It all matches my color.
It deserves to live.👍
Robbie Layton Nation he'll give that truck the love it deserves
This truck defiantly would make someone very happy to own it. Do what's right Eric!😃
Looks solid. Fix it. I'll be waiting!!!!
I am far from the expert in used cars and trucks. but the way this country is headed I would save it and someone who cannot afford the outrageous prices on vehicles can use it and make a living and maybe bring it back to life and shine as it once did. Save the beauty Eric! love from AZ ❤
I miss my 94. It was mint and I got good money for it but still miss it
I own a 1994 C1500 extra cab. Silverado interior is in get Shape no rips. engine, runs fine and transmission at a 193,000 small Dent in the right quarter panel and the clears come off the hood, the rest of the truck's immaculate stored in the garage. My dad bought this truck new . These trucks only have 200 horsepower. And 300 pounds of torque, very weak, 10 and a 1/2 miles a gallon in town, and almost 16 on the freeway, so it's not a power Beast, The engine's a very simple push rod motor It will last a long time if you change the oil often. I do mine every 3,500 miles. But one thing I have over that truck living in California no rust, just like the day it came off. The Canadian Manufacturing line Yes, mine was made in Canada. And the Canadians did a good job still running after 30 years constantly running It doesn't sit in the garage for weeks on end moves. Almost everyday. This truck hauls a 21 foot travel trailer at 4,200 pounds and also halls firewood, it's a working truck.
If the frame is as rust free as it looks, the truck is a keeper. Find some straight fenders, then forget about it for 5 years....
Omg I have a 1995 GMC 1500!!! Bought for $1400 with 268k miles (a steal)! Reg cab, long bed, power windows.... been great for Home Depot, hauling mulch, and reclaimed fence wood. I had the lazy driver side door until I replaced the handle. Teal green, gonna put a hot pink glitter "racing" stripe down the side and go 45mph lol. FIX IT but engine TEAR DOWN, TEAR DOWN!!!
I would sell the drive train. Either part it all out or store it, but I'd lean towards part out, help other trucks still on the road that need freshening up. I love those trucks, but I don't see that one being the best candidate for saving. It could be saved, but it seems to me it would best serve as a donor to keep other running trucks going.
I actually bought a '95 long bed new in teal green. With only 200 hp, it was kinda weak. It really struggled to tow my sons' 22 foot Essex back from the Lake. A/C hoses went out after four years, key would not release from the ignition several times, but it had comfortable seats, and I kept it nine years. It gets a B+
New car smell😮
Biden rode on passenger side😂

The lights on older things didn’t need to be bright to see because the dash lights were dim. Now you have screens in your face and we have blinding lights.
Parts for sure
I mean, that frame is spotless. It deserves to be repaired in my opinion.
I'm with the "save it" crowd, especially if the bones (drivetrain and frame) are solid. A thought...partner with a local high school's auto shop class (if they still have such things in your neck of the woods) and let them fix it up under your and your team's guidance. A solid truck gets back on the road, some young auto enthusiasts get to "learn by doing" along side experts in the business. A win-win.
Part it out.
Frame looks good from what you've shown. Fix it and take us for the ride. These are so much better than the stuff today.
