The Sw**tika symbol in the Cornwall pub was brought back by the son of the pubs owners. He fought in Europe and was proud to defeat that symbol.
Just beyond belief!!.. This is unfortunately the disgusting state of the modern London Metropolitan Police Force, just talking and using many unnecessary words thinking they sound educated!... Plus also trying to talk themselves out of having to do exactly what they're paid to do! - I suggest that officer quickly signs up for evening classes in the English language and learns the exact meaning of certain words he uses!
60+ years ago when I was a youngster in London the MET had full control of the city, and we as youngsters had a lot of respect for them, even though we sometimes pushed our luck! Nowadays the officers seem poorly educated and poorly trained. Sadly they also seem uninterested in anything other than having an easy life, which unfortunately just gives the 'dubious' part of society a free run at the experience of the law abiding majority !
That pub in Cornwall had one complaint and the person that done that has never been to the pub in question.

According to wikipedia - "According to the British law, the use of Nazi symbols is not a crime".

Under the Public Order Act it could be viewed by Jews as something which causes them alarm and distress. The police in my view would have been justified to arrest the carrier of the symbol and refer it to a court for legal decision. Even in terms of simple incitement to cause a breach of the Peace in a public place an arrest should have been made.
The job of police is to act, at the time - and for a court to adjudge later.

There's no consistency. Yes, context is important, but only if it's consistently applied. You can't say context is important for one thing and then ignore context for another.
Freedom of speech and freedom of expression come at a price, and that price is accepting other people who you disagree with should have exactly the same right to voice their opinion as you do, you may disagree with or be offended by what they are saying, but like you they should have every right to say it.
Trying to pick and choose what is allowed and what isn't allowed will always end up taking away someone's rights at the expense of others. One person finds something hateful and another finds it acceptable, who's right?
