Essentially the entire story is that school bullies are turning the lies around and they're the ones being "bullied" when it's just that they're bullying both furries and non furries in school. Adding in overreacting adults who are just trash, refuse to control their terrible kids and you get this story.
I mean I wouldn't want to be barked at, or get lunch food thrown at, or to be harrassed by people saying that they identifies as "furry hunters", or to be physically harrased by said bully kids 😭. Good synopsis! No wondery why there was soo much tension and why the "furry" kids were so upset
I feel bad for the "furry" kids. Like the others should atleast have basic respect for everyone wethere he/she be furry, gay or any sort of things in that direction. And aldo the fact that 15% of the children were actually protesting and 30% wanted to skip classes (thanks guy on top of my message) made it worse 😭

Use of pet litter is *real* in our schools, as far as it's very useful for soaking up blood, puke, and other spills. Not for some random therian or furry BS

I knew that people actually don’t use litter boxes in school outside that extreme. I’m very familiar the BS rumour because I spend a lot of time in trans and furry circles (with this story used to argue against both). It was made up by Joe Rogan and he admitted to it being fictitious, either he made it up himself or his friend did.

I'm a furry. Lemme explain. (For the haters)
1. A furry is someone who is an enthusiast for anthropomorphic animal characters. That's it.
2. A therian is someone who identifies psychologically or spiritually as an animal based on involuntary animalistic behaviors and urges. Therians know they're physically human.
3. Quadrobics is the sport/exercise where you move, walk, run, and jump like an animal would. A quadrobist is someone who practices quadrobics.
4. Furries and therians don't all act like animals and harass or attack others and bark at everyone and crawl around at school or wear fetish gear. These individuals who do do that are problematic individuals who need to seek help or need to be punished. They are not good examples of furries/therians.
If only kids can comprehend normal logic speech 😢

This makes me so sad, because I, a furry, was ASSAULTED and verbally harassed and FOLLOWED to class for being a furry. I was barked at, had things thrown at me, mooed at, meowed at, pounced at, etc etc. I never did this to anyone, it has ways without fail been anti-furries. Someone even went as far as PISSING on the male restroom floor and said, "Oh look! Inky pissed on the floor because he needs a litter box." I'm a trans man, and cannot legally go into the males restroom- so... Yea...

They're just speaking on what they themselves would do. There was a story of some over religious woman that made her kid plug up to "keep out Satan." When someone makes baseless accusations, they're usually just telling you their plans.

I heard about this from my wife first. She being an educator (but not a furry) knew the rumors were false, and that people blew things out of proportion.
Also, as a local, I’ve heard no one else mention the rumor, so this story doesn’t really have any traction that I’ve seen outside of international social media. So, yeah… internet being internet again. 🤦♂️
I'm SO GLAD that my parents knew I was a furry when I was 15 in 2011 and were fine with it.... Because they would have believed these school furry lies if they didn't already know what furries are 😭 I still shield them from the LGBTQ and 18+ aspect of the fandom, they kind of know that exists but I minimize it not really for their sanity, but for what's left of my sanity while I stay hiding in the trans closet from them.
Listen, folks, I'm going to be real with you. I've lived in an environment my entire life where I've been unable to share my interests with people, not helped by social stuff being hard because of an ASD diagnosis. Once I'm out of this small town, the cat, or rather, the dragon, is out of the bag. I'm going to be honest with people. It's the city. I interact with someone once, and then we never have to see each other again. I refuse to fuck up my social growth any more just because one of my hobbies involves the most ancient human ritual ever: drawing animal people. I will be a gay furry femboy, and even if that's a tad generic, I will be proud of who I am, and I will be brave.

The entire thing was anti trans from the very first claim.
Some people have the strange idea that trans could mean anything so kids wanting to be animals fits, since they don't know anything about furries or trans people at all.
The only thing they noticed is the high number of LGBTQIA+ members in the Fandom and theirfor this entire thing can be used as a anti trans dogwhistle that will only hurt people they hate.
So in its core its way worse than it even looks.

I find this stuff so funny, but it also sucks for the individuals, even if the fandom as a whole takes it more or less like a joke.
I got to experience furry drama like this first hand at my school. I made a deal with my school to make them an extra mascot, specifically to be worn by students, in return for them advertising my work to other schools. I'm already known for being a furry and fursuit maker since I used my free art period to work on commissions.
When I announced the begining of the project, the mother of one of the students lost her shit and created a FACEBOOK PETITION to have my project taken down. This grown woman was petitioning against a 17 year old(at the time) art student. School board panicked, but since they already purchased all the materials they couldn't cancel the project. Instead it got demoted to 'class project.' The whole thing is a running joke between my mom and I now, especially since it brought me a ton of business. The project was finished and displayed for a bit at an art show where it won me second place. I hope she enjoys watching my project continue, despite her efforts, and present tons of new opportunities and community connections.
Oh, and the students are enjoying the hell out of it!

I actually dug VERY deep with this one for some reason. Here's everything that I've found out about it up until now (SOURCES are in the SQUARE BRACKETS, but RUclips doesn't allow me to post any links, sorry :/ ). I HAVE TRIED MY BEST TO BE UNBIASED as a furry :3
In a middle school in Payson, Utah County, about 10 kids, who maybe called themselves "furries" or was called it by their peers were said to be harrassing many kids at that school, like barking, chasing, licking, biting, or "sparying people with 'anti-human' sprays." [1][4]
These events seems to repeat until kids at the school can't take it anymore, and with permission of their parents, around 50 kids, middle and high schoolers[12], went protesting for the school to stop tolerating these kids.[1] This end up gaining alot of traction and attention from everyone and from the media.[2]
On April 17th, News caught on and the school ensures that these things are false, saying that it's only kids who were wearing cat / dog ears. The school then said that this happens because the kids at school were harrasing these kids wearing headbands; and all parents, from receiving an email about the situation, misinterpreted that the school was favoring the headband kids.[3]
Soon, from The Blaze Media, photos and videos gets out and shows proof of it actually happening, showing scenes of kids complaining of being sprayed, barking, chasing and walking on all four, etc. Although there were no evidences showing biting, licking or any form of physical harrasment except for spraying air freshener.[4]
Furthermore, one parent states that she believes a video was cut off context, that rather just shows kids playing during reccess walking on all fours and barking. However, herself and other testimonies has confirmed that the videos and photos are from the exact school and were legit events that occurred.[10][11][12] The school officials believes otherwise, stating how these are from different schools, how this doesn't happen because of strict dress codes.[5] (Whether of not if it was from this school, it shows that this behavior can happen and has happened :3)
A few days after, some mallicious people had twice threatened to set off the school, and also said "furry" kids' homes because of the viral news ( now that's extrememe and way off the situation ).[6][8] That then made the police show up to warns the school to keeps their childrens safe and at home for the time being.[7]On the 24th of April, after many police investigations, the school is deemed "safe and classes will be held as scheduled today.”[9]
The Payson police also interviewed kids and parents, showing how the protest kids also contributed to the situation and had harrassed the "furry" kids in the past.[8] From a testinomy of one of the parents of the "furry" kids, they have had to pull them out from school because of the harrassment that this situation has garnered.[10]
On April 29th, There have been another threat directed towards the school as the situation begins to become more and more extreme.
There is no more updates further than this point.
I've actually posted this in many videos covering this topic, unfortunately, I've done TOO much research, with even getting to ask a student from the Nebo Middle School questions about this, to not share what I've found out about it 😭🙏

Here's my 2 cents and theory of a congruent story from all I've known,
Understand that there are 3 sides,
1 - the "furry" kids (who might not even be, but wears accessories alike)
2 - the protest kids (who are against the former)
3 - the normal kids (who were not really involved in any of this situation but were still affected by it)
This situation is a growing of tension between all sides in the Mt.Nebo Middle School. Some "furry" kids of the school were harrased by the protest kids, and some were harassing other students, including the protest kids, as a defense; this range from the "furry" kids spraying and barking to the protest kids physically bullying the "furry" kids and throwing food at lunch. The protest ended up gaining a ton of popularity and blowing everything out of proportions, leading to further extreme actions and having kids being pulled out of school.
All of this mess really could've been prevented if both the school and the parents had enforced the rules and moderate their kids ( *ON EITHER SIDE* ) better and more efficiently. Situations like this needs to be resolve as quickly as possible as soon as ANY student is harrassed or made uncomfortable.
Expanding on Strudel's advice of keeping personal hobbies out of school (even I follow that, thus Strudel was right all along), kids should not beable to get into any extreme hobbies or beliefs ( *furry, anti furry, therian, anti therian* ) too deep too soon, thus only should take it as a light hobby on the surface, witholding until they can actually understand and have a grasp of their hobby.

I was highly skeptical about this as well. One of the rules of the internet (I believe rule #32) is "Pictures or it did not happened." I agreed that this whole situation is absurd. This is what happens when the media is bored and they need to find a way to fit in a 10 minute segment of screen time.
Now I been bullied because I was different (Asperger's Syndrome) I will be constantly mocked and harassed to the point I would need to lash out (thankful I didn't). What probably happened that a group of "furries" (Yes I am not entirely sure their furries. Could be just normal kids with cat ears trying to be cute.) was harassed and perhaps some of them had enough of the constant harassment and lashed out. Then the bullies flip the script to say that they were bullied by the furries.
Then the fact that this takes place in Utah which is notoriously a stronghold of "super" religious values that makes the most holy of Catholics in my community look like sinners according to their standards.
The internet allows us to be informed of things going on almost anywhere, but it also gives bullies the power to spread their influence (and thus lies) much farther.

The problem I have with this situation is that its being labeled as "Furrys" in school when these aren't furrys. They're kids with imaginations acting like animals. Kids have imaginations and do shit like this. The problem is that A: the parents need to teach their kids not to do shit like this at school (if its disruptive). And B: schools need to deter ACTUAL disruptive behavior. The problem is the two controlling factors the oversee kids is only enabling this bad behavior.
Also, I do fully believe ALOT of this stuff being reported is over embellished. People listening to imaginative kids saying crazy shit and then believing it like its true....ya kids...sure they don't lie or overexaggerate to extremes or anything. Something I'd like to point out is that schools, middle schools especially, would have cat/dog litter to help clean up messes. The biggest mess they'd be used for is some kid's puke, it's a middle school so I don't doubt it would happen since that's something a middle school I went to also used it for.
Another bigger reason is to help clean up the aftermath of unfortunate tragedies. It being Utah, there's a fair chance they have some stocked in case of a school shooting or severe weather such as tornadoes. In the cases of severe weather that doesn't immediately effect the school building itself, litter may be used for bathroom purposes in cases where the actual bathrooms are full/unusable, but that's in extreme circumstances.
I saw one of the videos of the kids skipping school to laugh and yell about furries. I can guarantee you that those kids are the ones who bully the furry kids.

Since there's a bit of uncertainty on the topic:
I suspect the whole "litter box" fiasco started simply because a kid saw cat litter, possibly in the bathroom, didn't quite understand what they were seeing, and their imagination ran with it. It then spiraled out of control when the parent heard this imaginary scenario.
Why might the kid have seen cat litter in the bathroom? Because it's a vital part of any janitor's toolkit, particularly for cleaning up excess errant bodily fluids. (For example, someone went to throw up and didn't quite make it to the toilet.)
But, as "furry" has absolutely become code for "LGBT" in conservative communities--because of the slippery slope fallacy--it became headline freaking news
I also feel it ties into the anti-trans agenda. "What, trans girls, boys who identify as girls are using the girl's bathroom?" Is very similar to "furries, kids who identify as cats are using litter boxes in school bathrooms". It's so far out there and contributes to that slippery slope transphobes use of "well kids can identify as anything nowadays and we have to believe that's true".

My whole take on the litterbox situation is that Sony has had more data breeches then there have been actual reported cases of litter boxes in bathrooms for student use.
YMS (Your Movie Sucks) did a deep dive into this where he researched, watched and read through almost everything relating to this story that came from an official source, not only debunking most of the insane claims being made but explaining how misinformation and rumors like these get spread and catch on, its a 5 hour long video but I would HIGHLY recommend watching at least parts of it if you have time, its on his highlights channel

When my father found out I was a furry, it was the first thing he told me to do, ask if my school has litter boxes for furries.
I am known as my school's furry. Never once have I bit, licked, scratched, or assulted another student. In the long run, we are at school to learn, so why would I care what someone else's opinion is when it comes to furries. All i need to worry about is my grades and the people I actually like. It's actually the opposite of what these kids claim is happening. Furries get harrased, barked at, and assulted all the time in schools, but no one is talking about that. People will say things like, "But you're the one out of the box, so you should expect people harrasing you." Why, yes, you should expect it. That doesn't make it right. Instead of teaching your kids how to be 'normal', teach them how to be respectful, even to things they dont agree with.

Anyhoo, I have heard that the litter box thing comes lock down supplies classrooms have now to keep kids safe and secure in their class if there is an active shooter or the like. So, this whole thing was weird to me, because even if you took the entire thing as truth at face value, you still run into some weird issues.
1. A MIDDLE SCHOOL is letting their CHILDREN walk out of school and protest. This would infuriate me as a parent.
2. Simultaneously a group of maybe 15 kids took over a school and all the adults just… surrendered? Where the actual flip are the adults at? You are telling me all it took was one or two feral ankle biters and their posse and you would just surrender the building?
3. A “journalist” thought it would be chill to just go and interview all these minors without any adult present.
4. Lastly, the camera man interviewing Strudel prefers maws over paws given he has a thing for zooming in on her tongue. I don’t think that’s normal interview practice.
So at the end of the day even if you assume everything they say to be true, which I do not, they are still 100% in the wrong.

Furries absolutely should not limit interactions with outsiders. That kind of thing is first off exactly what the people who hate furries want, and that also just enables more ignorance to grow.
So this was brought up as a convo in work as part of a wider “furries are weird” small-talk whatever. Which forced me to look this up because I was thinking no way this is real, this can’t be real. I tend to stay out of giving any opinion in these conversations because I’m very much still in the closet and I don’t want to be put in the same category as the wider fandom and then have to defend this shit all the time. I don’t want awkward off-comments like “oh where’s your fursuit?” or “so do you like butt-plug tails?” (yes that also was brought up, fml) and then have to pull that up in front of my boss as harassment. Fuck that’s such an awful nightmare to imagine lol. But this made me physically say “that’s bullshit.”. They were saying “did you know that some schools provide _them_ with litter boxes? Yeah these freaks shit in litter trays”. It’s clearly a rumor that was started by a school bully targeting some kid who came out as a furry and it just got out of hand. I figured that from the get-go. No on in their right mind is doing this, and no school no matter how liberal they are with their code of conduct will ever allow that. I was holding back so hard to just tell them to get real but I’m not willing to paint myself that reputation. I’m sure many others are the same. But as much as I hate to say it, the fandom is just not worth defending at this point lol.
It’s just so frustrating that furries have this reputation of being strange sexual deviants instead of just someone who likes the idea of anthropomorphism and _may_ or may not want to wear a fursuit of their own design. Like, that’s cool to me. The other shit…eh…
