Question: I have a fir tree planted 12 feet from my house. There is a root growing towards the house foundation visible above the ground. Do I need to worry about the root damaging the house foundation or can I safely cover the exposed root with soil etc?
Thank you for the info. Do the plastic root barriers work? Would a wall of concrete, 1 foot wide and 2 feet deep rebar reinforced redirect the roots away from sidewalks and foundations?
The tree at the end of the video (4:22) needs to have at least three roots pruned that are circling the root zone and negatively impacting that gorgeous tree.

Hello- I have moved into a house that has an existing flower bed between 4 large oaks - (if you could imagine a square area and the oaks being at each corner) it appears that there is a layer of coardboard (almost totally decomposed) and about 1-2 ft of soil on top of that. Each tree is covered with soil and cardboard only on the INSIDE of the square area. My question is- is this killing these trees Since the roots are not covered on all sides. It is a very pretty area with hosta and fern and there is an existing drip line. However, the trees are much more valuable and I would be willing to remove all of it so the roots can be breath. I have 2 citrus trees and 1 avocado tree that are planted next to the fence of my small backyard. I've taken out the grassy area between the trees and the house and want to replace it with decomposed granite (DG) and then 1"-2" river rock. The base of trees will be from 2.5 ft to 3ft away from the start of the DG/river rock. Will I be hurting the roots of my trees by doing this? This trees are between 6-20 years old.
In my backyard, I recently chopped a dead pine tree down with a 4’ wide trunk and then stump grinded it. Now I want to put pavers down on that area of about 11’x13’ for a Tuff Shed. Hmmm…this may answer my question about putting soil and planting around the large roots of my tree. It sounds like, from your experience, we may need to only mulch over those large roots?

I recently encountered a root rot in a potted tree... i did not remove the black root but i simply loosened the soil and transplanted it in a new soil in a new location in ground.... now am wondering if i did the right thing..shud i have removed the rotten black root? Will it still survive? Or should i dig it out and remove the rotten root?
I do have a question! Please can you help? I have a beautiful, tall oak that has two roots that have crumbled the old driveway. People want to cut the roots to replace the driveway; another said I need to remove the tree.
I do NOT want to hurt my tree, the idea of removing it makes me sad, she hasn’t done anything wrong.
But the driveway is a real safety hazard, something has to give.
The oak is at least ten feet away from from the driveway, which needs to be widened on both sides for an increase of 1.5 feet on each side.
The oak is planted on a slight slopey hill between our two houses.
So my question is, is there a healthy way to trim the roots, to save her, another driveway option, or am I forced to remove her?
The first root is probably 5 inches, the second imposing root is less and has made less damage. The tree is VERY tall. It has one base trunk that has grown two main trunks, as if it was were two tiny saplings that grew into each other early in life.
All the oaks in our neighborhood we call “Broccoli Trees,” because they have green on top, few horizontal beaches, and shed their lower branches into widowmakers.
I recommend turning on closed captioning. Music is too loud and distracts from the content.

That is one big tree, i would say it's diameter is around 36 inches at least

10 feet from structures and 2 feet from concrete is waaaaay too little. My trees are 30 feet from the house and the roots are still hitting the foundation. And destroying my driveway. And lawn.
Better advice, don't plant trees near anything you want to keep, including a lawn.
