Hello! I have been having some confusion about how much to water are fairly newly planted fruit trees. They were about 2 years old when we got them from the nursery and just put them in the ground in March. They recommended different watering schedules for different temperatures. Right now it is about 90° in the Verde Valley here in Arizona. We are at about 3300 ft elevation and haven't got much rain recently. We were watering them according to the schedule and maybe we might have been watering them a little extra, too, since I put my moisture meter in and they were coming up pretty wet. I stopped watering them for about 4 or 5 days and when the few inches of topsoil became drier, I watered them for about a minute each around the root balls.
How long should trees that have been planted fairly recently been watered? They noted that if we missed even one watering, which means skipping a day, we could be at risk of killing the tree. But my water sensor tells me otherwise. I'm not sure how to handle it. We mixed our native soil which is a pretty heavy alkaline clay with 50% mulch in a hole that was about twice as wide as the tree and a little deeper underneath so there could be some drainage. The trees are slightly mounded so water won't collect around the trunk during monsoon.
Has the root flare of the big tree in the background been mulched over?
I'm in California and we have another drought year. Last year all my persimmon fruit dropped and the leaves turned yellow to brown or fell off. This year, some branches of leaves turned brown and died. Most are curling inward on the healthier (my favorite) persimmon tree. The other persimmon has browned, dying leaves, mostly. :( My soil is a hardpan soil and looks dead. What can I do to rejuvenate my soil and help my wonderful persimmon trees thrive again? I heard fertilizing in the summer can do more harm than good. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I have what was a beautiful Tulip tree that freaked out this year. I'll give you symptoms etc and what I might have done to cause it by accident. The tree is about a foot in diameter.and about 30 foot high.It is located in an inner oval of my driveway which is covered with crushed asphalt Me not knowing about trees decided to narrow the oval and add crushed asphalt which involved being a few feet in from drip line. This added asphalt was compacted by driving back and forth. I covered all around tree with ground cloth for weeds and 3 inches of gravel. This spring we had a late freeze after tree started budding.Now a drought in Michigan unlike the flooding we had last year. My land is sandy.Long story short.Leaves that came out were sparse and got less toward peak and turned yellow showing green veins curled and died.After suggestions I'm removing all the gravel and ground cloth and watering a lot. I'm going to add a few inches of mulch. I've been using an oscillating sprinkler but am going to put a drip hose down........So how far apart should I coils of the drip hose ? .......Do I have a chance in saving this tree? Any advice? Or should I give up?...... Oh. almost forgot some of the last leaves have brown spots on them.

@@rogerwilco6355 I hope you were giving me a good review of what I did. Leaves did come back on three sides but not on east side They went up the center to about 5 feet short of top. Fall now so I'm still hoping for a better condition in the spring. I did get to watch two nests of Robin babies hatch and fly off. Just that makes me not give up and cut down!
Hello HDTRIPPER1---Give us a one-year update? Don't give up! I'm in the Feb 2021 "Big Freeze" belt of Texas and we are still seeing slow recoveries from things that looked oh so dead, but we just couldn't bear to cut down. !Paciencia!
She did really explain what to look for when you stick your finger in. Is the soil supposed to be wet? what are we supposed to find?

Go back and listen to the WHOLE video again and just use your brain bucket. LOL. It's like farming, someone can tell you how to do it but until you really do it you won't know until you start doing it yourself. Best a luck
You're sticking your finger in to feel how dry the soil is and whether it's time to water. If it feels wet, you don't need to water.

Yes. When stressed for water tree will shed leaves. When given water, it will grow new ones.

Did she say 'poke a hole or 2 through the bucket'! Follow this advice you wont have a bottom to your bucket, along the way maybe an accident. You need something very sharp to scribe then cut or better a drill with a drill bit designed for plastic. 😂 good effort but learn some correct rhetoric so everyone doesnt waste their time and money.
