- Andrew Wiltse Rolling in the Gi after teaching a three and a half hour seminar in Wisconsin at Origin BJJ. We were on the mats for a total of seven hours.
Not quite up to buzzsaw standards with my back yet, but I'm able to do a little more. You can tell where I'm avoiding certain movements or just chilling in mount longer then usual, not chasing down subs. I push it a little on some of the inversions, and I'm still able to walk today so progress!
Thanks again to everyone at Origin BJJ for inviting us out to teach! It was a blast! and for once someone wanted me to show something that wasn't guard passing 😅

Thanks again guys for coming up! You guys gave an amazing seminar! I hope to train with you guys again soon. And I highly recommend to everyone, that they take the time to learn from the Wiltse Brothers! They go above and beyond to make sure you understand what they teach, and they teach stuff they use and actual works. They spent 7 HOURS at our gym yesterday! Amazing techniques, concepts, and people!
P.S. I might be biased, but that second blue belt in the blue gi is a handsome fella in my opinion!
I hear he even stared in a movie and a music video. 👍
@@jameswallin1539 wow really??? That's pretty cool, I'm going to have to check it out. Do you happen to know the name of the movie?
@@jesserennicke7343 Ahockolyps
Zombies, hockey, what more does a person need.
I was just coming here to say the Wiltse brothers are the best and the second blue belt looks like the best Amish roller this side of the Mason Dixon line.
Did I happen to see a Trent Fairley in this video by chance?
the big dude you were rolling with from 3:06 looked strong as fuck. Sweet rolls Andrew, glad to hear the back is starting to feel better
That was a lot of good material. The big black belt was a perfect demonstration of what you were saying the other day about how strength is so important. There were some pretty technical guys there, and the spazzy white belt at the end was a good example of how someone can be unskilled, but through movement and explosiveness, they can still make it hard to achieve good positions and submissions.
I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the fact that you post these on a regular basis. I study them and do the best I can to learn from them, and I really believe it’s helping my jiujitsu improve much faster than it would otherwise.
I agree it's awesome, It's a joy to see his guard passing, looks like break dancing
The role with me (3:06-6:30) really does relate to Andrew’s rant on strength being an important factor. What I felt was the strength discrepancy can compensate for the discrepancy in speed and technique (to a point). I can be a beat behind and pull myself back into alignment. Then the question become does the strength discrepancy overcome the speed and technical discrepancy. In my case here, no, not really. All those facets are simultaneously important, and there are always areas we need to be working to improve. I love watching how he kept me at bay with his legs and constant off-balancing. It was an honor to roll with him.
There is a lesson there though. A lot of the blue belts play jiu jitsu and when they get technically beat simply accept the position because they accepted they were beat and let things play out. The white belt was spazzing, some, but also simply refused to accept a position that Andrew did not fully impose on him. Was it technical or beautiful positioning on the white belts part? Of course not, but he made Andrew earn the positions a little more. Might as well see what you can get away with :)
@@zsohaihfaosav Foe sure. Persistence and that never give up mindset are definitely a part of the equation.
Great to see some gi footage. Thanks for the amazing content - you've been on a tear lately!
Damn that second guy is nightmare fuel. Absolute unit with a black belt and wrestling shoes.
Was thinking exactly the same thing.
Hes a teddy bear in real life, and my favorite roll in the gym as a young female whitebelt
@@Izzy-ez7lb why he wearing the wrestling shoes
You can read Noah’s comment that he wrote to Jiusma
But that would involve scrolling, looking at reading. Why do all that when it’s easier to just complain Jim?
Another great video, always learn something new watching your clips !! Your channel is pure gold !! Many thanks
Andrew and Bird, thank you guys so much for taking the time to come out and do this seminar. Your BJJ skills are top tier and you both seem like genuinely nice human beings. Keep pursuing your passions and know that the content you put out benefits the lives of so many people in ways that you will never be able to fully comprehend. Thank you for putting yourselves out there, and I hope that your injury riddled bodies are able to find some relief. I wish you both the best!
so glad you hit this consistent groove of uploading. you're a very likeable character and your jitsu is so mesmerizing to watch. Keep this stuff up!
Love these videos of you rolling!!!
"... nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes"; and Andrew taking the back, trapping the (left) arm, and locking in a one-arm choke. It's remarkable. And I never grow tired of watching it happen.
It’s really good to watch you roll. Your skill level and conditioning are unbelievable.
That first you rolled with is super technical and really hot! In my totally non biased opinion
Strongly agree 😉
I'm a big fan of the Wiltse brothers, especially Andrew. Rock on!
Thank you guys for sharing your rolling footage, especially gi. I'm trying to look for little nuances to try to add to my jiu jitsu. Love the channel.
Hey Andrew glad to set you Rolling again, meaning your back is way better :-)
Hey Bird I’ve put the bell on so every time you upload I know!
I love these videoes! :D
Outstanding Jiu Jitsu as always
Fuckin yes please keep up with the rolling content.. some of my favorite shit on RUclips and you stopped for a while 😩😩😩
The blue belt was really decent!
LMAO @ That 40s Bird Lock and Bird Commentary
That was a great seminar bro. Went and got Panda Express right after. Lol
Just purchased the no-gi buzz saw last night.
Holy fuck...that's a big dude and it looks like he really knows how to use his weight and strength to his advantage. Great stuff mr wiltse! 👍👍👍
Usually I do, but Andrew was masterful at pummeling his legs to the inside and putting the strength of my fingers against the strength of his leg press. He’s a wizard for sure!
@@noahjenkins3331 I like your attitude about it, big guys don't usually know how to handle that kind of frustration but you were clearly thinking your way out of stuff. As much as one can vs a stud like Andrew that is, you're a beast on the mats regardless
I believe that’s known as technique
Thanks Ryan. I just wanted to give him a good look and a roll that could make him work a bit. I never expected a reaction to me like I am seeing on this board. I’m a middle-aged scientist who is the favorite grappling partner to children, not “nightmare fuel”. Haha.
@@noahjenkins3331 A Black Belt whos not only big and strong, but technical is everyone's nightmare fuel 😅
So impressive, you are handling all these bigger guys, when you are on top they melt in seconds.
That triangle to straight armlock to omoplata sweep against the second guy you rolled with is something I'll be studying.
Me too John :)
Boys you should have let me know. I would have brought some more bodies to the seminar! Love this!
You just show up and wreck whole gyms . Crazy
Daaaamn...that big black belt is flippin' enormous! I feel like you were wearing him down and he was starting to fade when the timer went off.
Not fading, just trying to wait for him to commit to set up a counter. But I should have attacked more, you’re right.
@@noahjenkins3331 you did better than most I've seen from the hours of Andrew rolling footage I've watched.
Thanks! I’m trying to get myself back into tournament shape as well and it felt great to feel that pace. I just wanted to give him a decent roll.
@@noahjenkins3331 Rolling with Andrew Wiltse would likely tax the shit out of most. You look like a beast and gave his a tough round. Meant no disrespect.
No disrespect taken on my part, it’s true, his gas tank is unbelievable. For a heavyweight mine is as well, but that would be a losing battle for me eventually.
That black belt definitely got promoted on attendance...
That’s a great jumpscare tactic to tell people to subscribed to your channel lol
Birds over here like "...but did it work?" 🤨
Super Mario 64 end credits music lol 🔥
Strong gym.
That big black belt gave Andrew more trouble than I think I’ve seen anyone in a gym give him. That’s truly and accomplishment.
That guy was a beast! He reminded me of Mark Coleman lol. Also, very efficient jiu jitsu by Andrew repummeling the legs, reshooting the butterfly, making sure the big guy couldn't make any good grips, and capitalized on the passing opportunity beautifully. No wasted movement. I learned a lot.
@@jax2442 You know, I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but yeah, Mark Coleman totally.
@@vodking Thanks guys, I just wanted to give him a good roll and make the visit up to our town of 8500 people more worth it. I learned a lot as well, it was one of the most informative rolls in my 17 years of grappling, despite the fact that there may not seem like a ton is going on to an untrained eye. There was a lot going on, at top speed. I would love to go no-gi with him as well (not talking crap, I just want to learn). It was honor to have him, and I think we put up a pretty impressive showing of toughness and future potential for BJJ in our community. Props to Andrew for being someone who doesn't turn down rolls after a seminar! And props to Jesse Reine for founding and running a school that brings so much joy to the students and always strives to refine and teach world-class technique. If there is anyone traveling in the northern Wisconsin area, feel welcome to get some training in at Origin BJJ in Rice Lake.
Love this! Andrew, what's the submission you hit at about 2:15? Hard to see what's happening in that moment...
Makes it look easy.
A little upset that I didn’t even know the wiltse brothers were coming to Wisconsin until the day before the seminar, but at the same time It gives me hope for a future Milwaukee seminar!
We have a seminar at Neutral Ground BJJ in West Bend on June 25th
@@WiltseBrothers You coming to Florida anytime soon?
Andrew 🥋🥋🥋
Making it look easy
please come to CT man, pleaseeeeee
My white belt eyes couldn’t tell if you had less mercy on the first black belt or some of the blue belts were pretty tough
Andrew has previously stated that he can get to taps quicker on brown and black belts because their responses are a bit more anticipatable..
That first blue belt is gonna be a problem…
More Gi Plz!
You guys ever coming to Omaha or Lincoln Nebraska?
When you go to a seminar like this where there are non professionals, do you alter the intensity of your rolling based on belt color/ opponent reaction? Or would you say you keep a nice steady pace, regardless of who you’re rolling with at something like this?
He seems to be just a ruthless, just not moving as fast.
@@hermanmelville3871 I think that's also partly because of the gi. Slows everything down.
Fuckin scared me coming out of no where telling us to subscribe 😂
Do you usually play spider and lasso with bigger dudes?
Also I forgot to say but I’d definitely be able to smesh Andrew’s guard!
Yeeeeees!
6:15
Super slick.
Yes, very slick. I almost tapped to that short armbar.
At 4:37 the other guy didn't realize that you let go of his left sleeve. I guess you are The Wizard.
He realized it, but he also realized that Andrew let go of it on purpose and wanted to wait a half second for his attention to be diverted rather than attack solely on Andrew’s terms. There is a lot going on in these exchanges that people don’t see. Good comment though, and good eye.
Be happy bird!
Had to double check if my video speed was at 1.0
What was the sub at 2:10?
one thing that i wonder watching your rolling footage is why do people consistently give up their back in mount? What sort of threats/pressure are you giving? How do you transition to S mount so easily? is it really all about the “tactical pressure?”
The gist of it is that It's normally a combination of pressure and threats, on top of them really wanting to escape and making small mistakes.
Wiltse is so fast look at that knee on belly you push it off on your side he has your back every time
How come we're not seeing you and bird involved with all the PSF adventures of late?
European tour, WNO etc??

2nd roll (with the giant) why did both omoplata attempts fail? I'd love to hear your narration on these rolls
I had a blown L5-S1.
@@WiltseBrothers Understood. Hope you are healing up.
Is there any chance you might do a commentary on these rolls? I think I speak for all of us in that we would find the commentary on these rolls fascinating!
I can. We aren't really sure which people enjoy more. I should do a poll actually. Pure rolling with no commentary? Rolling then commentary at the end?
@@WiltseBrothers that's a good question. I know personally I like the rolling with the commentary at the end! That way we get to see the rolls, then we get to hear your thought process behind it all, and what you look for in each position! Do only is it interesting, it's also helpful as well!
@@WiltseBrothers that's a good question. I know personally I like the rolling with the commentary at the end! That way we get to see the rolls, then we get to hear your thought process behind it all, and what you look for in each position! Do only is it interesting, it's also helpful as well!
@@WiltseBrothers I'm a big fan of the commentary, it helps me understand a lot more of what your thought process is when in certain positions. I'm new, and while I can pick up the physical part fast enough, developing that mindset is where I struggle and I make some fucking downright idiotic choices, usually in the aim of being creative and trying weird shit that I've never seen 😅
what made you decide to go darce at 16:00?
The angle was there, and I knew I could at least attempt it without hurting my back
@@WiltseBrothers i see. Was just curious cuz i dont usually see people go from darce in that situation. Probably a cool thing for me to try 😁
Gi outside passing with wrestling shoes would be so over powered

in my experience it's usually the girls who do this.
I think that's a sharpie from one of the kids
It was a dry erase marker.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen you use spider guard normally you go for the single x entry and send folks flying 😅
Damn i want that Wiltse gas tank…
Gi with shoes = KGB
He actually does speak Russia. Now I’ve said too much.
I drank some oj now having a bit of a tummy at
Lol mark coleman
Goddamit that second guy looks like a absolute nightmare. What is your goal setting/tactics against those kind of opponents? I bet he got swept the first time since purple belt hahahahaha
Angles. Lots of angles. Inversions. Maximum leverage. I like to hunt for Omoplatas on bigger guys.
Never ever make a mistake with your frames or you're in for a world of hurt.
Awesome! Being on the lighter and stockier site this helps a lot. How do you pass guards of very lanky guys? How do you break through their first line of grips and legs on you?
If they are on their back, you should really try to make sure that you get the first grip and use it. Once you get an outside pass going, they'll over correct to turn in. Then you play the inside and avoid their length.
Angles and alignment. Andrew was masterful at meeting my forward power with circling into angles, and re-pummeling his legs to the inside. It was my grip strength against his leg press at that point. I don’t care how strong your grip is, you can’t hang on for long there. He would use my forward pressure to give him more momentum to pivot, and when he pivots, my forward pressure becomes the initial momentum for his sweep. Left, right, forward, back, chaining the changes in angles together so that I couldn’t gain any progress in passing. Super fun roll.
commenting for HAPPY BIRD
It's funny how everyone is shocked by how big Noah is... if only they knew that he is only the second biggest guy at our gym 😂 The first being a 300lb monster that was a former college wrestler and is now a powerlifter that passes himself off as a human being.
Got one of those at Checkmat Temecula. The guy walked into my gym (Checkmat Signal Hill) for open mat one Friday and all of us literally said, “what the fuck is that?”
@@hermanmelville3871 hahaha, they say they're humans but I'm not sure if I believe them 😂 When the guy at my gym got me in a head lock I thought my head was about to pop off
bro are those wrestling shoes? tuck the laces lol
Yes, wrestling shoes, good eye. Not tennis shoes. Designed for the mats. Everyone stay calm. The laces did start tucked. I’m sure Andrew was getting ready to untie them himself during the roll to use them to try and choke me.
Would have loved to see Andrew go against the big guy nogi..
Yes, that would be interesting, I hear he is mostly a competitor in no-gi :)
The black belt in the wrestling shoes looked like he put all of his points into old man strength
Hes an Olympic power lifter, doctor, and trains with some of the best heavyweights in the world. It's far more than power, it's technique and angles combined with that "old man strength".
And it looks like the smaller guy is putting all his points into youth and speed. How dare either one of them use the abilities that their individual bodies are best suited for!
Or maybe…….. there is more going on here for both of them than old man strength, youth, and speed. Putting “all your points into old man strength” would probably get you subbed by Andrew 5 times in a round like this. I’m going to go out in a limb and say he has likely done that before to guys that are just strong. But hell, what do I know.
The old guys with the wrestling shoes are always strong as fuck. It’s just a fact of life. The sun rises in east, sets in the west, and old guys in wrestling shoes are strong as fuck. Reminded me of some of the black belts I used to train with at my old gym that would violate me regularly lol.
And yes I know he clearly has excellent technique and not just strength 🙂
Oh man…..I have officially become the old black belt with wrestling shoes. Andrew already grabbed the attention of Panda Express, maybe I can reach out to Geritol…..or Advil. Or judging by the look on my face a lot of the time, Metamucil.
Why did you stop making videos Mr W now my life is ruined my kids won’t talk to me my boss fired me and my wife left me thanks bro
Looks like a few heads got smashed into the walls 😃
Haha we talked about that while there. It's a tough gym, they train pretty hard.
Feet and butts actually lol! No heads yet, but probably eventually.
@@Izzy-ez7lb there actually has been a few heads too 😬
Yeah remember the guy that was being a a hole to u and Megan. 💪👍
Top 6 middle weight?? Name 5 better middle weights than you and I'll call you a liar respectfully
The guy Andrew rolled with at the 3 min mark; the 250 lbs “black belt” spaz. With his wrestling shoes in the gi. Lol. You’d never see someone like Roger Gracie moving like that. Zero technique all muscle. Lucky Andrew didn’t get hurt rolling with a ding dong like that
Exactly! Lmao
No reason to wear wrestling shoes in bjj training unless you have a toe injury or something similar. Those are annoying and scratches and clips you open easily (stupid injury hazard when shooting triangle&armbars from bottom for ex.). Why this big guy is wearing them I have no idea because no one ele is wearing shoes. Those do not belong to bjj training. Do your training partners a favour and stop wearing those.
I honestly don't care and I don't think it's a big deal. I used to roll in basket ball shorts and a T shirt. It's fine
Thanks for you opinion. I mainly wear them because my feet sweat a lot and I start to slip towards the end of rolling sessions. Yes, more than most people. Let’s call it hyperhydrosis. Instead of compromising my technique and muscle memory formation, I wear the shoes as a training tool to train longer and more consistently. You may have seen people tape their fingers or wear knee wraps, for similar reasons for other body parts. In tournaments it doesn’t matter as much because those matches are short and sporadic, so I seldom wear them. They do give me better grip on top but also take away from pummeling into lasso and spider guard as smoothly. It also opens me up to footlocks more, so my body alignment and defense has to be on point. I have never had anyone complain, and if I go into a new gym, I always ask if it is ok if I wear them. No one has minded. In fact, this RUclips comment board is really the first indication that so many people have a problem with it.
I will take your order under serious advisement and think deeply about my choices in life. In the meantime, enjoy your jiu-jitsu journey!
There’s legit black belts then there’s wiltse 🤯 crazy levels at the top
