Meraviglioso.
My favorite Chopin interpreter and one of my favorite pianists of all time. Pollini’s Chopin interpretations just check all the boxes for me, nothing to improve upon.
I have heard Pollini, live. I have heard many other performers, live. Everyone has different taste, but there is no doubt that Pollini is one of the finest Chopin interpreters who ever lived. In addition, he is one of the greatest pianists of the last and current centuries, respectively. What really gets me is when people who are rank amateurs come to youtube and negatively "judge" the greats. If you don't like a great pianist's style, OK - but to say "s/he played it "wrong"....??? Clueless!
In my opinion, he has the greatest interpretation of this masterpiece. The heartfelt delays on some of these notes. It doesn't need to be said that he has the touch.
I so love the musicians who have the skill and artistic ability to add their individual voices and vision to the pieces they play, and Pollini is one of those very special musicians. And bc there are a great many pianists since recording began, I’ve been able to condition my ear to the point that I can hear their voices and artistry. When you hear Pollini, you know it can be no one else, and the same is true for Gould, Ashkenazy, Argerich, Fou Ts’ong Rubinstein, Horowitz, and there are several more, but each has this wonderful ability, to speak Chopin (and every other composer) in their own language, so to speak. And I just cannot get over how lucky we are to be able to hear ALL of them, for free!!
He's played this piece so many times...he could probably play it in his sleep...still excellent(if predictable). Wish Lang Lang could play half as well.. 😣😀
Technically, he plays better than any of us on the jury.’ So proclaimed Arthur Rubinstein after a young Italian named Maurizio Pollini won the Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 1960.
Are you kidding me? As is implied in the description of his first post-Warsaw-Competition recording, he could beat almost all in a chess match. That aside, no other person's reading provides as sensible a structure and continuous momentum as Maestro Pollini
I have heard Agerich, and many others, and they all have their own beauty. I don't dare judge the artistry of geniuses like Argerich or Pollini, but do dare to judge the non-sensical criticisms of people on youtube who puff themselves up by acting as if they are good enough to judge the great ones. I think you need to chill out, and stop taking yourself so seriously.
Ottima esecuzione. Bravo.
Lets just say I'm a citizen of the world, and that I have lived and loved music, for a seeming eternity. Enjoy the music! That's the only thing that counts.
I challenge those people who criticize Pollini. If you can play 50% as good, then you have the right to make a comment. Otherwise please shut up! As a pianist myself, I know how a great pianist like Pollini put a lot of thoughts on each phrase he plays. He spent his whole life thinking about how to bring the beauty out of this masterpiece. Those stupid so-called music critics can't even play a damn note on the piano. The more they say only serves to reveal their ignorance!
I went to the site and was surprised that he is actually much younger than most. He is not known in this parts (Philippines) like the others. But while Sianesi plays with that delicate tenderness, Pollini can really come out with the anger if not rage as only Pollini can. Thanks. another excellent musician to come back to and listen. I edited this. It was only when I subbed that I noticed it is you. Congratulations. I wish I could play as well. Excellent job.
Correct, and it's for us amateurs to enjoy, not judge for others - except for ourselves. One may dislike a certain performer, but someone else may like that performer. By what standard is any one performer - at concert level - "better" than another. It's subjective - and, because it's subjective, it's not an objective rendering of a standard that applies to everyone.
Yes...but its a far cry closer to doing so, than thinking that posting on YT means you understand music. You prove that practically every time you do....
did yoou ever record something with a professional studio? you know what is possible when mixing what was recorded? I don t think so....Did you hear Pollini live more than once? I did.... do you know the chopin etudes by other pianists? there are wonderful recordings of these etudes on youtube !!!!
With your assumption being that you understand music better than Pollini, right? OK, where is your recorded interpretation of this Ballade? Please submit it as a response to the Pollini video, so we can judge for ourselves.
You don't have to be as good as someone to express an opinion about something. That's absurd. Then no one would have any opinions. No one would be able to dislike a movie, or a piece of music, or a book. I don't understand what your premise is: if you're not as good as a performer, then you are *required* to like it? That's ridiculous. You are equating the statements "I didn't like Pollini's performance" with "I am as good as or better than Pollini". They are not the same statement. An exercise: think of something you dislike. The first thing that comes to mind. A movie. A book. Whatever. Does that mean, in your own mental equation, that you are AS COMPETENT as the person(s) who created the thing you don't like? Of course not.
No...but it sure helps to have an in depth knowledge of what goes into making one good or not. Something your deficiency in musical education seems to not to allow you to do, more than on a superficial and wacky, personally obsessive level. ;-]
Seriously? With a comment like this you really do expose yourself as ignorant and foolish. You may not like his playing but calling Pollini unintelligent is very stupid.
Your point of view is very , very , very curious . . . but ok , I can understand what you mean . I would say , an opinion of our time . . . But anyway , thank you for the kind answer . A last thing , may I ask you from which country and how old you are ?
Ah ... you begin to critisize my spelling , because you cannot critisize my ideas . Begin to write in my language (german) and we'll see how easy it is for you . I do not care about my "audience" , I care about music . And yes , I have the courage in this shitty main stream thinking time, to do so . And for you , try Argerich in this Ballade to get some fresh air , and tell me .
How curious and interesting is this situation ; you and me are in perfect opposition . You are "citizen of the world", and I am german , only german . Your are in eternity, and I am 55 . You love music , and I love only real music . You enjoy , I am in quest . You don't judge the pianists , but you judge me . I judge the pianists but I don't judge you . Fascinating ! You have absolutely nothing in common with me . Seldom, isn't it ?
Not really, nor do I need to refer to obscure metaphors to make a point, to deal with inferiority, like you do. Furthermore, Pollini has millions ofo very serious music fans; you're not one of them - so? It's always fun running into those who thrive on trolling or boosting themselves at the expense of others. Look, Pollini understands Chopin better than 1000 copies of you. Does that matter? Not really, to most people, but it does matter to you, because you have unresolved inferiority issues.
My metaphores are not obscure . You just not want to understand it . I give you one more easy for your luminous brain : "is it necessary to be a brewer to be able to judge a beer ? " and furthermore , like Pollini , Hitler had in 1933 "millions of very serious fans" , so what ??? What is this for an evidence ??? And the "1000 copies" , that is for yourself . Because you are a little main stream fish , and I have the intellectual courage to contest Mr. Pollini .
Pollini was a very good pianist who did a lot of things in his life but he wasn t a genious. he did a lot of musical mistakes in his Beethovensonata cycle in Paris which was very strange.... but he had an enourmous memory and technique. his debussy etudes were fabulous. but the chopin etudes DG recording is very upsetting from the musicality point although virtuos and admired for the technical skills.
uh, that's spelled "metaphors", Einstein. Go have another beer, and admire yourself in the mirror. That's all the audience you'll ever have. And please, stop confusing courage with ignorance - but ignorance doesn't grant that distinction, does it?
No....but you do have to try to have some understanding of what a woman/man is before pursing an connection... You might do well to educate yourself on music before posting some of YOUR particularly stupid remarks...
Oh damn...scratch that idea then........... At least Pollini can feel proud that he's helped prevent another very stupid pianist from inflicting us with more of his bland and technically weak play, right Gordon? ;-)
RIP Maestro!
I've never heard such a rhythmical orientated pianist in my life. Listening to him play the chopin butterfly etude is incredible.
My favorite Chopin interpreter and one of my favorite pianists of all time. Pollini’s Chopin interpretations just check all the boxes for me, nothing to improve upon.
In my opinion, very few people can express the exquisite emotion that Chopin's music conveys as well as Pollini
I have heard Pollini, live. I have heard many other performers, live. Everyone has different taste, but there is no doubt that Pollini is one of the finest Chopin interpreters who ever lived. In addition, he is one of the greatest pianists of the last and current centuries, respectively. I agree. Even if we all have our favorites, there is room for different ways or there would be no reason for anyone to become a musician.
In my opinion, he has the greatest interpretation of this masterpiece. The heartfelt delays on some of these notes. It doesn't need to be said that he has the touch.

I have never listened to such a wonderful piano sound and such a harmonious performance.
Art doesn't lie. You either have it or you don't. Bravo maestro pollini
Wow! Definitely started tearing up around the 3 minute mark! Absolutely beautiful interpretation.

I adore his interpretation to this so much that I think it is the "bar" for this song.
Omg wonderful 😮😮
absolutely wonderful interpretation ~ thank you for sharing it!
This is AMAZING.
My Hero! Fantastic!!! Thank you very much!!!
He's played this piece so many times...he could probably play it in his sleep...still excellent(if predictable).
Wish Lang Lang could play half as well..
😣😀
In my to do list, i have to listen to this once in a day
One of the best
interpretazione magistrale
Technically, he plays better than any of us on the jury.’ So proclaimed Arthur Rubinstein after a young Italian named Maurizio Pollini won the Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 1960.
I love it so much this. Fantastic played...
strepitoso, grazie maestro
Whatever to say will be much lesser then his perfection. Great performer and lucky you are if could see him performing..
Nadie como Pollini interpretando a Chopin. Gracias, maestro. Sílvia Escobar. Madrid.
It is so touching. His style and tone everything seems to suit for Chopin. Flawless!
Are you kidding me? As is implied in the description of his first post-Warsaw-Competition recording, he could beat almost all in a chess match.

So gorgeous...
Bravo!
it sounds like his album of chopin. his touch is very impressive

+Samuel Puan I just LOVE this man.... who could say anything... but... BRAVO....!!!!!!!
+ryan pena How many people like Hip-hop and cheeseburgers? Are you one of those?
Nice insult kid, I dislike both. Grow up, we all have our different opinions, you're opinion isn't automatically right.
Marvelous
Only Polllini plays this piece with this much intensity that even Rubinstein has some catching up to do.
Check out the cover made by Enrico Sianesi.... So well done
I went to the site and was surprised that he is actually much younger than most. He is not known in this parts (Philippines) like the others. You need me, because without me, you cannot define yourself. Think about it. Enjoy the music, in your own way - or not.
You just proved my point.
Wow bravissimo
Formidabile Pollini.
Classic performance, a total gem from Pollini. I recently did it too in a gig, you can catch it on my channel.

GENIAL !!!
Yes...but its a far cry closer to doing so, than thinking that posting on YT means you understand music. You prove that practically every time you do....
Yes, he is alive and makes concert tours. But for how long, as he is already 70 years? I have heard that he has cancelled his US tour for this summer.
N.1
Le due scale ascendenti alla fine! Come lui nessuno…
If I can understand you , every pianist has his , or her , own beauty ; right ?
😊😊😊

Is he playing wrong the first segment of the coda? On the left hand he plays the first A based chord (i guess is F minor 7) like forever
+PablanArrakis Would this be roughly at 7:10-7:18?
+brtherjohn yes

No...but it sure helps to have an in depth knowledge of what goes into making one good or not.

Yes..your playing is...
But , miracle as it might be, if you practice enough.....
OK , I'll make it more easy for your understanding : is it necessary to be a brewer when you want to judge a beer ?
Seriously? With a comment like this you really do expose yourself as ignorant and foolish. You may not like his playing but calling Pollini unintelligent is very stupid.

no offense but half of your liked videos are of memes
My "music education " is good , don't worry . But you could working harder at yours only to understand what I am saying about music .
I wasn't worried, Why work hard to understand utter nonsense?
So I don't...
