    when i first trained for a marathon my cadence was slow and i got it band issues. my first 3 marathons were 3:20,3:40 & and almost 3:50. i replanned my running over a 2 month summer without worrying about pace to run 3 steps per second. i then ran a marathon in scotland and i had no idea if i would b able to finish and ran 3:03 followed by a 2:51 and over 10 marathons under 3:00. admittedly i also went from 200lbs to 170 during this spell. i’m back at 200 but ran 3:14 in Tokyo
    easily. goal now is to get to 170 before i’m 50(next year)

    Hi, imnot an expert only sort of a cchi runner but cadence should not be a number of only steps per minute but a number of turns the spine makes - turnover rate - your legs are firing pretttty well but your upper body is a bit slower!!! left knee w. right elbow, right knee with left elbow and so on - creating propulsion - moving easy.
    you giving a lot of good tips so i will give one back too - i use metronome SEIKO DM 51 and am very satisfied. Take care......

    I’ve been told that I need to open my stride more because it would allow me to keep up with a group of people I run with and would require less energy exerted. I feel like more energy is exerted when I try to lengthen my stride. Naturally, I try to keep my cadence high. I think the reason I struggled to keep pace with the group is because I didn’t know how to control my breathing and oxygen wasn’t getting to my muscles. Once I figured out how to breathe I was able to keep up. I’d like your thoughts on the matter, if you will. Thank you!

      Cee Major we’ve got some great videos to improve your breathing! Keep up the consistent work. A bigger stride is important for speed esp when paired w higher cadence!

    I really enjoy this channel and have learned alot about running, but what do you guys think about the gazelles vs gliders runningstyle discussion? Because these two running styles will influence your cadence.

    Hi, how to determine level speed to 5/10 if u r running outdoors

  • @ajitthomas1651
    @ajitthomas1651 6 лет назад

    Nate I try to run at a cadence of 170 to 180 steps per min. When I want to go faster, I simply lean more, from the ankles, causing my stride to lengthen, therefore speed increases.

    Random question, how do you know your levels?

    • @TheRunExperience
      @TheRunExperience  6 лет назад +1

      James Livings really by practice and by thinking about it this sense of perceived effort improves!

    Maybe this vid would be more motivating to follow if you guys explained, as you run, what this cadence controll is really all about and why it works.

    • @baker1444
      @baker1444 6 лет назад

      Vicente De Leon yeh I agree. I’m new to running and don’t really understand why cadence matters.

    • @ajitthomas1651
      @ajitthomas1651 6 лет назад +2

      Higher cadence usually means less impact, as you are not coming down as hard, as when you take longer strides and land on your heels.

      to me cadence is a middle point between hard running and sprinting thats one extreme and the other extreme is a fast walker and really slow jog. cadence is a jog where you swings your arms naturally but not like a sprint and where there is no swing in your arms normally in walking. you should feel comfortbale without being out of breath

      Hey guys we have 2-3 videos on cadence that do the deeper dive you’re asking for. This is meant to be a quick explanation for the follow along workout. Be sure to check those out!!

    Why does this look like much more work than slower cadence? Lol

    • @TheRunExperience
      @TheRunExperience  5 лет назад

      It can certainly feel like more work when you're changing any part of your run technique, but it pays dividends later on!
