    Always treat the Hotel and Domestic crew with total respect. Most of them are away from their family for 6-9 months a year in order to support their family, in many cases extended family back home. Many westerners would never consider doing what they have to do.
    Regardless of which line we travel, respect wins friends and shows support.

    Just back from NCL Tokyo-Taipei 10 nights
    1, cancelled 3 Ports used the weather reason and weather was beautiful.
    2, cuts the shows
    3, no much onboard activities not more than P&O aus.
    4, more food needs pay extra.
    5, room service poor.

    I don't believe any of the NCL cutback is over supply chain. It is all about increasing profit just like recent research shows that businesses increased prices more than inflation rates and had record earnings in 2023. It is all about increasing as long as we keep paying.

    • @electrictroy2010
      @electrictroy2010 3 месяца назад

      People keep saying this, but when I look at a food corporation earnings (McDonald’s for example) I don’t see record profits. They lost money in 2020 putting them in debt. And 2023 shows a modest profit… nowhere near the records set in 2010-12

    NCL is devoting too much effort to reduce cost (& alienating cruisers).
    ie: Slowing the cruising speed & spending less time in ports/missing ports and now cutting options at Cagney's).
    We're Sapphire level and slowing checking cruises on other lines first.

    Honestly the changes at Cagney’s on NCL that you mentioned are NOT a big deal to me at all. Who needs 10 side dishes to choose from !?! I understand supply chain issues as well. We love NCL overall. We’ve cruised all the major US lines (minus Princess) and find NCL fits our cruising style the best. There are plenty of companies to choose from, which is great! Whatever “floats your boat” 😊

    Not a problem with Cagneys. I love their smaller steaks and couldnt eat three courses never mind four. Who would eat a 20 ounce steak anyway, that’s far too big for one person so I wont miss it. We usually go there at least twice on a cruise but our favourite was always the French Bistro. Meals in there were wonderful. We havent been on an NCL for a while, must change that soon.

      Yeah, I did a voyage on the Encore two years ago (my 1st ever sailing with Norwegian) and remember being appalled by the food in the MDR (speaking of the New York strip steak). I can remember thinking “Wow, talk about cutback city!” Contrast that to the included food experience I just had on Holland America, and we’re talking night versus day.

    NO reason to treat crew members badly. My experience has been that they will go out of their way for you, including trying to make something not up to par right. No one's perfect - they're human beings, too. Everyone can make a mistake - it is extremely rare that a mistake is soooo bad that it deserves going off on someone like a banshee. It takes less energy to be kind than angry, and honey always trumps vinegar. And if a crew member does happen to be rude to you or makes a noteworthy mistake, quietly go to Customer Service and report it - no need to make a scene.

    NCL gives away a lot of free specialty dining as part of the free at sea promotion. I think that may factor into the cutbacks. They have been doing it so long, I don't think they reverse it without really alienating the customer base.

    I've sailed on 3 music charters aboard the NCL Pearl. I've never eaten at Cagney's, and in fact the first cruise was the only one where I ate somewhere other than the buffet. (And that was the main dining room.) These music cruises are so jam-packed, we really don't have time to eat anywhere but the buffet. We may be sailing again on NCL next year, and I expect it'll be a similar expense.

  • @rgruenhaus
    @rgruenhaus 15 дней назад

    On NCL at Cagney's Steakhouse saying that people didn’t order enough of an item maybe like onion rings isn't always because they didn't like the item. It can be the quantity of the item like the 3 or 4 puny onion rings. We are not at a buffet and know we can get several more. Two spoons full of creamed spinach isn't a proper portion! Lamb chops are puny too! Rich people with no appetite might just want a sampler plate for $100. On my first cruise on the Breakaway 01Nov15 I got a Porterhouse steak and added a lobster tail for $10 using the Specialty dinner I had was what a cruise Specialty dinner should be!
    It's bad enough when a loyal to NCL cruiser gets to Platinum and above and the 2nd person in their cabin is also a platinum or above and the 2 dinners for two only goes to one of them just because NCL put it as a Platinum and above perk for one in the cabin cheating the other Platinum and above guest who got the 11 cruises to get to Platinum, but NCL is going cheap and not appreciating both in the same cabin. Always being like that doesn't mean it's right of NCL! Each person did the cruises, each person should get the benefits!

    I just got off the NCL Gem to Bermuda. Cagney's was by far the worst meal I had. The menu cuts meant that I couldn't have my favorites, such as the oysters and the au gratin potatoes and the pork chop. Pretty much my whole favorite meal was gone. Also. The steak I got was burnt to a crisp. Terrible. The servers were actually running between tables. Someone else would bring the items and throw them down on the table without a word. I spoke with the manager and he apologized and said the menu cuts were corporate decisions. I had a better steak at Le Bistro. The menu seemed shorter there, too. Moderno and Teppanyaki were the only ones where nothing seemed to have changed. Main dining room menus had some changes. However the lunch and breakfast menus have been virtually the same menus from 2017. Go figure!

    hey Don, thought I'd let you know it's not just Cagney's that changed their menu. it's all the specialty restaurants. they have all cut some items and grouped appetizers and salads and soups together. so, a situation I ran into on my last cruise was that when you used your free at sea dinning you could get the 4 course meal but when you used your voucher for free meals for being platinum or above you were only allowed a 3 course meal. So it seems they are streamlining the menus to alleviate any confusion

    In my opinion, they're wasting a large ship on 3 and 4 night sailings. My guess is it's more of a $$ thing. I've tried pricing back to backs, and they are more expensive than a single 7 night sailing! Money, money, money!!

    I think the smart thing is someone can do a 3 or 4 days cruise and then do 3 or 4 days at Disney or the other parks.
    I think that will be a fun new vacation option for people out of state. ( I live 20 min from the port)

    Sounds like great changes on NCL, especially if the food is prepared well. Three courses instead of four courses also means the length of time diners spend in the restaurant will be shorter allowing more people to secure a reservation.

    3 or 4 day cruises seem not to be worth the cost, at least for me. I assume they have the market research to justify the need. It must be nice to live within a few hours of the cruise port. I can see it being a nice option if you live that close. I'm in Colorado and agree that after paying for air fare it would make no sense to do a short cruise. I'm curious what the fuel cost is for methanol vs the current fuel and if the price will increase for the methanol powered ships?

    Definitely not worth all you need to do to cruisr for only 3-4 days. Count me out. As far as specialty dining- have done it on 5 different cruise lines. Not one of them had food quality better than i could get at home in NJ. Total waste of money. In general, food on all cruise lines had been declining. Go for the trip, not for the food!

    On the recent group cruise I was talking to our waiter. He said he had been aboard ship for 8 months and had two more to go before he could go home. That's a lot of time to be away from family. And they work so many days in a row. I can sympathize with the stress of the crew.

    On crewmembers jumping from a perfectly floating boat: What percentage of crews were cruise line employees pre-pandemic and how many are newbies hired in a hurry when cruises restarted? Curious if they ended up hiring a buch of folks that were not really suited to work on a cruise ship on "contracts" that last months ?

    I think the shorter cruises on RCCL with planned stops at their private island offers more opportunities to make $$ for those guests booking cabanas, club day passes, excursions, etc. The Utopia would visit Coco Cay twice in 1 week with the shorter cruise schedules.
