    There will always be something nostalgic about old weapons ... especially those that have the same effect in past present and future

    Author keeps saying artillery like he doesn't understand that they are just really big bullets at the end of the day.

    • @internetzenmaster8952
      @internetzenmaster8952 2 месяца назад +1

      Fragmentation/shrapnel from artillery shells isn't the same as actually being hit directly by said bullets, so the author has a rough understanding of the difference between the two.

    Missiles, directed energy weapons, plasma weaponry - it doesn’t matter what other weapons we find or invent or how nice they are. They may even become our mainstay. Our ships will always have _something_ on them to hurl bits of metal at obscene velocities though.

    • @TheHighborn
      @TheHighborn 2 месяца назад +7

      Doesn't matter how tough your armour is, if the projectile flies at an appreciable % of the speed of light.
      If one could accelerate a grain of sand or a pebble to the speed of light, and hurl it, at a planet, it'd be an extinction event

    • @korinogaro
      @korinogaro Месяц назад

      @@TheHighborn well to be honest projectiles would make completely zero sense in a fight between spaceships. Like to even move through a star system without dying of boredom you would need 0.05-0.1c Like for sun's light to leave solar system it needs 5 hours. It means 50 hours at 0.1c and 100 hours at 0.05c. with such high speeds it would be literally impossible to hit moving target that knows it is targeted. And you can't hide your projectiles in any way because there is no medium in space that can hide their residual heat. Plus you wouldn't fight at anything less than 1cs right? ~30k km. I like these stories but they are seriously unrealistic. I think this is only one story I've read that made sense. Humans able to jump with insane precision within a system so that their exit point was literally hundreds of meters from enemy ship. And in such case projectiles are OP.

    The Imperium whining about Kinetics was a lot like the German army of WW1 whining about Americans using shotguns in trench warfare. It's not fair, stop kicking my @ss.
