Mary Anne’s father’s response to her was so warm, and welcoming. Of course the DNA test is necessary confirm, but it was so sweet that he acknowledged their resemblance before that and the dates he was in the Philippines made sense with her birth. I know it had to be a relief to be accepted immediately after over 40 years.
It’s so disgusting that people where saying “forget about finding your father. He abandoned you” Why would they think he abandoned her? The chances that these fathers even know they had a child are almost 0%.
People never seem to consider that maybe one slipped through the goalie, or maybe the mom didn't even inform the father that she was pregnant. Maybe they had a falling out over something else and she kept to herself for whatever reason.
I never met my biological father. He didn’t even know about me. These people struggle with the unknown. I know that I do. Always the what if’s. I hope they get to stay close together.

But I still wanted to share how much this first journey back then influenced me and what I am today. So I highly recommend a visit there, maybe with the family - but maybe also on your own.. My spouse was stationed in Thailand in the early 60’s. I married him in late 60’s. Numerous times in our early marriage I asked my husband if he was sure that there was no possibility of him having fathered child while stationed overseas. I made my husband aware that if indeed there was a child or children behind that I wanted to take care of them. He is 82years old & thus far no children have come up. He did do the ancestry DNA, which I was glad. It’s easy to love children regardless of the age!
