I feel like good interviewers can usually hide their contempt a little better than this. Asking tough questions without an accusatory tone can make them tougher. But when the interviewer gets a little wound up and the interviewee is calm as can be, credibility can become shaky. And whatever you may think of Gerry, you ought to know he's much too slick for that, and has been spending the last half century fielding questions like this.

Marxist Sinn Fein often like to go back many centuries. If you want to go back as far as the 11th century you'll know that Ireland was NEVER "invaded" without invitation that the history books like to forget. A Gaelic KING in Ireland felt betrayed by the Pope, that king invited an army from Britain to get what he saw as his kingdom back and under his rule. The British Army was sent in to protect catholics from sadistic loyalist death squads.Think about that.
You people want to start the clock at when the IRA fought BACK,and ignore the murder and mayhem that caused it.
No,Queen Elizabeth has the most blood on her hands. She was/is the commander in chief of the British Army, who colluded with loyalists to murder catholics, unimpeded for decades, before Adams was even near the IRA.

We live in a scary time, where being a true Statesmen is somehow to be seen as either weak or complicit, and the people are looking to Strongmen to bring in a future they don't even really truly comprehend.

I recently discovered that my great grandad was an Irish revolutionary. The point is that Ireland is one country and British determination to keep a part of Ireland under its control will break. Probably sooner than later as Sinn Fein took the electoral road, tacked towards the middle ground whilst not forgetting its revolutionary history, and now has the support of huge numbers of people throughout the Ireland of Ireland. Gerry Adams is an extremely clever man, an effective leader and speaker who can now see a United Ireland as a reality. I think it might happen during my lifetime and I believe this would be a positive development. The hatred and bigotry found within elements of the loyalist community, the anti Catholic nonsense, a system based on gerrymandering political and economic control to the Protestant settlers in the North, all make for a poisonous brew and it's now time to burst this nasty boil...and return Ireland to a united situation where Britain has no more influence over it than France, Italy, Germany...

Marr should have asked him on his thoughts regarding the future of the loyalist community should the British connection in Ireland end. If these communities have been living there for hundreds of years then like it or not surely they too are part of the fabric of the island of Ireland?

No one is saying that unionists are not entitled to live in a United Ireland, including Sinn Féin.
Their identity would be protected and respected within a United Ireland.
That's in the Good Friday Agreement.
      Also in the Irish Constitution.
Maybe you should look up stuff before you write down incorrect stuff.

      I just told you
It's within the Good Friday Agreement that unionist identity will be protected post reunification.
Sinn Féin support the Good Friday Agreement. Adams helped deliver it, getting republicans on board, whether you like him or not.
So, that would've been a stupid question to ask him.
Plus it was also put in the Irish Constitution and voted for by the people of Ireland.
So, there is no question of unionists not being treated as equally, their identity not respected within a United Ireland.

Your incorrect stuff is suggesting that Marr ask Adams re unionists being entitled to keep their identity and be treated as equals within a United Ireland.
Adams helped deliver the Good Friday Agreement which states that unionists identity would be protected and they would be treated as equals. post reunification.
Plus your post is misleading ie all this, surely unionists are entitled to be treated as equals type stuff, as if that is not going to be the case.
When it is in the Irish Constitution, voted for by the people of Ireland that unionist identity would be protected and they would be treated as equals within a United Ireland.

He definitely was a member of the IRA, he even admitted so in a letter he wrote in Long Kesh during his internment. You don’t get invited to IRA war council meetings, without being a member. Even his old comrades have said he was a member. Strange that he keeps denying it.
