Fun fact: According to the original anime producer, Deedlit was the one who popularizing 'Elf with Long Ears' character trope. Before Deedlit, Elves only have pointy ears just like what we saw in LoTR. But for whatever reason (I can't fully remember), they decided to not only give her and her kins pointy ears but very long ears. And since she became one of the most popular anime characters of the 90th, the trend exploded and Elves in Japanese fantasy stories are now mostly long ears.
Well, the producer can claim it, but it's not hard to look up and see that the design existed before Deedlit's first appearance. There are paintings from the early 80's with that design.
I agree 100%! I'd love to see a more modern RPG video game based on the series. I know there is an English translation patch for the old SNES game, but I've read that it only covers part of the story.
@@afk4lyf There's also that Dreamcast title; it is a hack-and-slash game akin to _Diablo_ . I like _Diablo_ style adventures, but I feel that this fictional realm can be done justice with a little work and a lot of love. The only question is: original protagonist (tabula rasa?) or established character (such as Parn)?
Personally, I'd love to see something in the style of Baldur's Gate, not following D&D rules specifically but having it's own ruleset. I like the idea of something more tactical where you can use the whole party. That said, I think it would be cool to be able to create your own group and set the adventure alongside the established events and characters. Just as long as it's not a grind-fest like that MMO.
Record of Lodoss War was originally (1986) a series of transcripts (or "replays") of a D&D campaign rewritten as serialized fiction in a magazine. The serialized stories were eventually rewritten into three fantasy novels called "RPG Replay Record of Lodoss War" 1, 2 and 3.
@@afk4lyf They were actually using their own Lodoss War RPG system for the campaigns. :) And (spoilers) that explains why when 2 certain characters die, not too long later 2 other characters join the party: because they were actual players in their campaign.
As a longtime fan of Loddoss War, I thank you for your review! I was informed this series will be getting released on consoles and Japans even going to give this title a physical copy! I'm so excited to play with the always whimsical Deedlit in the beautiful Metroid-Vania game!
This review should get more attention. There are barely any others but this one also gives a pretty good explanation of many mechanics. Having played the game for many hours already there was still stuff here I didn't know about. Good job!
Honestly, Narse was actually easy, though I found the trick to beating him easily in the beginning of the round, basically you just need to get past/under his head and be around your neck, then you just have a field day... but it is a very fun game XD
There doesn't appear to be any announcements for console versions. Although, the developers did port Touhou Luna Nights to Switch and Xbox One, so I'm hoping this gets the same treatment.
Hi! It was originally released for PC, but it will be getting a Switch release in December according to the publisher. It will have English language support. Although, it was only mentioned as a Japanese release. Not sure if/when it will be available for other regions.

interesting, I always wondered where the "long-eared anime elf" trope came from!

Creating it and popularizing it are different things, though.
@@zeroinifnite5730 Not to mention, the producer specified that Deedlit popularized that feature in JAPAN, not worldwide.
The very first time i saw the show (some 15ish years ago) my first though was something in the likes of "cleanins those ears must be a real chore" ^^
This IP deserves a full RPG.

Nice! I knew of the Ryo Mizuno novels, but I never knew that it based on an actual D&D campaign. That's awesome!

ロードス島戦記は日本の最初にして最高のファンタジー作品だと思います。
I think Record of Lodoss War is the first best fantasy work in Japan.
As a longtime fan of Loddoss War, I thank you for your review! I was informed this series will be getting released on consoles and Japans even going to give this title a physical copy! I'm so excited to play with the always whimsical Deedlit in the beautiful Metroid-Vania game!
Thank you! The game design is beautiful indeed, and has gotten a few nice updates since I posted this review. I hope you enjoy it!
It's coming to Xbox next week
The pixel art looks amazing and I do like the genre...I know nothing about the source material, but that may change soon. Sounds like a cool anime.
Definitely a cool series to check out. Hope you enjoy it!
A metroidvania based on ROLW mixed with Ikaruga? Holy hell, yes, please.
Can't wait for this game to be released on switch. Thank god they decided to include English in the japanese physical copies

That's some really good feedback. I definitely hope more people find it as helpful. Thank you much!
And kept the duration under 10 minutes, + for me!

Yup! I ended up using that same strategy in later play throughs
Team Ladybug is so damn good! I've played through this multiple times. I'm really looking forward to Blade Chimera from them now.
loved the series, also Would love a metroidvania style Berserk game.
I agree 100% A metroidvania based on Berserk would be awesome!!
This is a really good game, I'm having a lot of fun with this game.
I hope they made something to play as Parn like in SOTN with Richter
Team Ladybug are a pretty decent studio capable of doing very proficient Castlevania and Gradius-esque games . Konami could so worse than buying them.
I'm so excited waiting to get this game on Nintendo Switch
With a physical release too! I'm tempted to get another copy just for that
I didn't realize there would be a physical release I might fo the same
This game is incredible!!! Reminds me so much of Castlevania SOTN
Absolutely! I really hope the devs consider a sequel or story expansion. I'd love to see them do more with this.
@@afk4lyf Facts!! Same here
Crazy. Had no idea about this, but I remember the Anime in the 80's.
You forgot to mention the game's biggest shortcoming, its length.
How is it a shortcoming? A long game is inherently better than a short game? The game is priced accordingly, so I don't see any problem.
I'm happy I watched the anime before playing c:
Is this game coming to consoles?

December 16th i believe
It's on Game Pass right now if you have it!
Just dropping this in here now 8 months later but the post credits scene is the beginning of the book released in 2019.
awesome channel!!
Thank you!
Great game and excellent review.
muy buena buen video, desconocía este juego
Lodoss War is the closest thing we have to a Legend of Zelda anime.
Is this a switch game? Looks like 1

Record of Lodossvania
i lovw deedlit my 6 year iold crush
finally a good elf game where the elf isnt just sexy fanservice or the racist villain.
I’m sold. Lol
Oh i won't. Any metroidvania is worth my attention
Edit: I just finished Lodoss War OVA, ready for the game 🔥👌
Great game but too short I dont get why developers didnt expand it to at least 8 hours
