A lovely home. I wish the son could have stayed in his home with a carer. When his parents were alive all the furnishings and yard were taken care of with love. A very sad story about a loving family and their abandoned home.
That kid who own's that house is probably better off living in a group home because not all mental asylum's are safe. I lived in two group home's in my life, is now living on my own since I was taught how to live by myself. The two group home's helped me, kept me safe. The staff was amazing I was happy there at the time.

If it isn't ESL, perhaps someone who lived in group homes had bigger worries than remembering correct punctuation. It seems like people who are usually better at English, read more than those who aren't as good. Again, that could be the result of not having the time to read as much, for people who had to start working at a young age or had more important stuff going on.
The items in the box at 19:10 are knife rests. They were used to rest cutlery on, in between courses (when the same set of cutlery was used for various courses), to save the table cloth from being soiled. 💙

Any individual who has developmental disabilities may find it difficult to adjust from moving out of his house - let alone losing his loving parents. My heart hurts for him. I was born with a learning disability. I've lost both of my parents. My mom 7 years ago and my dad 5 years ago. When my mom was on hospice, and she was worried about me. I'm doing great. I do work, I drive, I bought a house last year. I do get help from my caseworker. So sad to watch this. What a beautiful home.
It's same situation for autistic who have at the worst end. My. Friend son is autistic he would have to go into state care when she is gone if no one in the family want to care for him as he can't live alone. It's sad but it happens
My wife and son work at a peer modeling autistic school in central Ohio. There are many stories like this that no one knows about so it is great that people like Leslie can shed at least a little light on one story.

Unless France used them as brooms, the stick with the feathers is called a feather duster and used as such. Such a very sad story of the people who lived there, it’s a shame it appears they had no other family. Depending on the year Juul was born he could be 57 to 60 years old now. Stories like this just break my heart, having to leave the only home he’s ever known to live in an asylum of some sort is so sad. The video was amazing though, with great respect and feeling to their legacy.

The little glass blocks in a box on the dresser in the Dining Room are cutlery rests - the French used to use just one set of cutlery throughout a meal, and these were used to kep the tablecloth clean ('gardez vos couverts!' the waitress may still tell you in small rural restaurants).

the box with the little shiny rectangular flower thing is a tool for putting to rest cutlery when you set a table for guests and you dress the table for an elegant meal. you put that and the guest can put their forks etc to rest there while they are chatting or whatever and is more elegant than if you put them on the dish, also resting there is not mistaken that you did finish the meal as if they were left on the dish. that is an old way, in some European countries
The house was lovely. However, I can not comprehend in any way why people would go through stuff and leave the incredible piles on the floor or furniture being flipped.. .maybe they have to look for money and jewelry but in my mind..they need to be drop kicked where they stand for all the destruction they cause. I'm looking forward to your next video and the feather broom was for dusting..probably for Walls, the top of door ways and ceilings. Shorter handled feather dusters were for table and bureau tops..things that could be easily reached.

I suspect the house was built on the grandparents land and now the aunts and uncles are battling it out. It happens more often than you would think. Everybody trusts their parents' word and then the parents don't bother making a will.

Don’t people write wills? It is so strange that there are so many beautiful abandoned homes there. People with a handicapped child should always have a will not only for property but for the care of their children should something happen to them. Certainly they must have had some family or friends or even an agency to leave the child and the home to. The sale of the house would help to pay for the care of the child. An insurance policy could have paid for the son to be well cared for instead of in the care of some government agency. It is just amazing that these homes are just left abandoned for decades with no resolution! The people who lived in this home knew how to decorate and had an appreciation for art. What a shame.
I have raised my totally disabled Autistic daughter for 48 years and when I pass away my son and his wife will care for her. Here in the US, my daughter cannot own or inherit any real property or she would not be able to receive any financial living expense from the Government. She would be forced to sell mine and her home and live off of that money until it ran out.
I'm so sorry you have this government rule to live by. Your daughter should be able to inherit and receive living expenses from the government. You are, undoubtedly, not a very wealthy person who dodges taxes and owns multiple homes and yachts with bank accounts in the Cayman's. Those folks don't need assistance and it is those folks who make the rules for every one of us so that we will always be less-off than them. Best of luck to you and your family.
@@kathleenstanley6751 A mentally handicapped person certainly can inherit property in the US. One issue would be that the income from the inheritance may effect the child’s social security benefits. Mentally disabled children receive income from the government if they live on their own or if they live with parents that have an income that is under a certain amount. That amount varies according to the amount of property owned and/or any additional income from stocks etc. If the child inherits a large sum it could effect their social security benefits. These benefits are not a lot of money but enough for a person to live on with the other government assistance programs available. In the US disabled children with no income or low income receive disability/social security money monthly. There are also many other services provided. Obviously, a severely handicapped person would need a caretaker to help oversee their care and any inheritance, should the parents die. This caretaker can be appointed by the parents in a will. As in any civilized country a mentally disabled person or minor child has to have a caretaker to help them handle their daily care and finances depending on the level of disability. There are many mentally handicapped people who are able to live on their own and handle their own expenses. A minor child or adult that is severely mentally handicapped and cannot handle their own finances would need an appointed guardian to help handle any inheritance but the property would still belong to the child who inherits. If the parents do not leave a will appointing that guardian then the state has to do it as the instance in this video. I would assume that in most cases parents would much prefer deciding their child’s future over having the government do it. Any will has an executor to handle the dispensing of the possessions of the deceased. The appointed executor is usually in charge of making sure that a severely handicapped person’s inheritance is properly dispensed. Many times parents will choose a lawyer to do it. If the estate is too small to pay for a lawyer or executor to care for the finances then the parents can appoint a guardian for their child to oversee the care. The guardian would help take care of the over site of the inheritance and the care of the child. It is up to the parents to put their desires in their will. If there are no arrangements made by the parents ahead of their death then the state is forced to get involved. A child whose parents leave no will or income would be taken care of by government agencies and, yes, any property would be sold to help pay for the care of their child. This is why it is so important for parents, such as those referred to in this video, to make a will ahead of time. No one knows when an accident may happen. Even if the children have no handicap; parents should have a legal and binding will that states exactly who they want to care for their children and the division of the property. If there is no will then the state steps in and handles it in court. If there is a family member that wants the children there may be no problem but if their is a family squabble about who gets the children then it can get messy. It is important to see to such arrangements ahead of time. Disabled people with no additional income from the parents are pretty well taken care of in the U.S. by government agencies. If someone does not want their property to go to their disabled child upon their death they can leave it to someone else. It would seem that if they are not now paying for the care of their child then they probably will not leave any inheritance to that child that would take away their government benefits. Is that fair? Someone is paying for the care of that child. It is up to each person to decide.

It does gall me that people like Jeff Bezos does not pay income tax and continues to pollute our fragile earth with his phallic machine, just for 30 seconds above the earth. I mostly enjoy these type of vids for the decoration and architecture, but I honestly have a hard time watching any other channel after finding this one. This one isn't "really" abandoned. It's just not occupied by the currently mentally incapacitated person. I don't know... glad he risks it for us... to watch.. but... this one is breaking and entering... and that's a felony in the US. I wouldn't do it LOL!

But, this was such an absolutely gorgeous home!! but what a heartbreaking story...it is so sad that the son can not enjoy it or all the memories that are left behind from his parents and his childhood...if there is no caretakers of this house, unfortunately one day this house will no longer be standing and all of their belongings and memories will be lost forever...so truly saddening...😢

I live in the state of Minnesota, US and back in the day they took photos of area farms, and if you saw yours in the local newspaper you could go to the newspaper and you’d receive a glossy 8”x10” photo of your farm. My grandparents had theirs displayed in the living room for years. Also, the large tapestry that you said was two women ? I believe was a man on the left and the woman on the right . Leslie, this was a charming home at one time with some lovely pieces of furniture. Thank you for making this video … oh, just want to add my parents were 2 weeks shy of their 70th wedding anniversary when my dad died. My mom had two brothers and three sisters and all celebrated sixty or more years of marriage except her younger brother who died before he and his wife were married that long. I was so deeply touched by your sensitive words. I was completely overwhelmed by your narration about the background story of the fate from this French family with their disabled son, who is still alive. - so entirely heartbreaking! You always show so much deep empathy and sincere compassion, which clearly shows in the expression of your face, for instance, when you said: .."but even to the best people in life the worst things happen". - Listening to that I couldn't help having tears in my eyes! Surely Jules’ parents were aware of the fact that their son was incapable of maintaining the family homestead. Why, then, would they not arrange for the sale of the property after their deaths and for the proper care of their son in a facility? Instead, Jules is made to leave his home and is put in a mental asylum. The tragedy here is not so much in the abandonment of the homestead, but is in the forced living arrangements made for Jules after the death of his parents.
Truth be spoken. I also don't believe that he was "born" with a mental illness. Dysfunctions in a family are often not recognised, until they show up in mental illnesses of the children.
It says so much if people don't put their affairs in order before they die. Sort of reminds me of the fella in Australia who abducted the little girl. His mother had died and obviously he couldn't cope either. Sad all around.
As a resident of France, I can assure everyone that it is likely that the son would have been made a ward of the state by his parents before their death. The house will only be disposed of once it is established that NO other relatives have a claim on it. France has very established inheritance laws and the process of sorting this out can take many years. The French state does not sell homes to pay for the care of those too old or incapable of looking after themselves. It should also be noted that whilst the house has been left, french neighbours and friends would be pretty unhappy to see someone looking about this house, no matter how respectful the presenter appears!

I was born with a learning disability. I've lost both of my parents. My mom 7 years ago and my dad 5 years ago. When my mom was on hospice, and she was worried about me. I'm doing great. I do work, I drive, I bought a house last year. I do get help from my caseworker. So sad to watch this. What a beautiful home.
It's same situation for autistic who have at the worst end. My. Friend son is autistic he would have to go into state care when she is gone if no one in the family want to care for him as he can't live alone. It's sad but it happens
My wife and son work at a peer modeling autistic school in central Ohio. There are many stories like this that no one knows about so it is great that people like Leslie can shed at least a little light on one story.

Unless France used them as brooms, the stick with the feathers is called a feather duster and used as such. Such a very sad story of the people who lived there, it’s a shame it appears they had no other family. Depending on the year Juul was born he could be 57 to 60 years old now. Stories like this just break my heart, having to leave the only home he’s ever known to live in an asylum of some sort is so sad. The video was amazing though, with great respect and feeling to their legacy.

The little glass blocks in a box on the dresser in the Dining Room are cutlery rests - the French used to use just one set of cutlery throughout a meal, and these were used to kep the tablecloth clean ('gardez vos couverts!' the waitress may still tell you in small rural restaurants).
So beautiful. What an amazing home. So sad. The boy is alive presume. So nothing can be done to sell the house or anything like that. Tragic that it must just be left rather than being used to home a new family. Much impressed by the property. Struck by the lack of vandalism too. Wonderful.

the box with the little shiny rectangular flower thing is a tool for putting to rest cutlery when you set a table for guests and you dress the table for an elegant meal. you put that and the guest can put their forks etc to rest there while they are chatting or whatever and is more elegant than if you put them on the dish, also resting there is not mistaken that you did finish the meal as if they were left on the dish. that is an old way, in some European countries

The house was lovely. However, I can not comprehend in any way why people would go through stuff and leave the incredible piles on the floor or furniture being flipped.. .maybe they have to look for money and jewelry but in my mind..they need to be drop kicked where they stand for all the destruction they cause.
I'm looking forward to your next video and the feather broom was for dusting..probably for Walls, the top of door ways and ceilings. Shorter handled feather dusters were for table and bureau tops..things that could be easily reached.

I suspect the house was built on the grandparents land and now the aunts and uncles are battling it out. It happens more often than you would think. Everybody trusts their parents' word and then the parents don't bother making a will.

Don’t people write wills? It is so strange that there are so many beautiful abandoned homes there. People with a handicapped child should always have a will not only for property but for the care of their children should something happen to them. Certainly they must have had some family or friends or even an agency to leave the child and the home to. The sale of the house would help to pay for the care of the child. An insurance policy could have paid for the son to be well cared for instead of in the care of some government agency. It is just amazing that these homes are just left abandoned for decades with no resolution!
The people who lived in this home knew how to decorate and had an appreciation for art. What a shame.
I have raised my totally disabled Autistic daughter for 48 years and when I pass away my son and his wife will care for her. Here in the US, my daughter cannot own or inherit any real property or she would not be able to receive any financial living expense from the Government. She would be forced to sell mine and her home and live off of that money until it ran out.
I'm so sorry you have this government rule to live by. Your daughter should be able to inherit and receive living expenses from the government. You are, undoubtedly, not a very wealthy person who dodges taxes and owns multiple homes and yachts with bank accounts in the Cayman's. Those folks don't need assistance and it is those folks who make the rules for every one of us so that we will always be less-off than them. Best of luck to you and your family.
@@kathleenstanley6751 A mentally handicapped person certainly can inherit property in the US. One issue would be that the income from the inheritance may effect the child’s social security benefits. Mentally disabled children receive income from the government if they live on their own or if they live with parents that have an income that is under a certain amount. That amount varies according to the amount of property owned and/or any additional income from stocks etc. If the child inherits a large sum it could effect their social security benefits. These benefits are not a lot of money but enough for a person to live on with the other government assistance programs available.
In the US disabled children with no income or low income receive disability/social security money monthly. There are also many other services provided. Obviously, a severely handicapped person would need a caretaker to help oversee their care and any inheritance, should the parents die. This caretaker can be appointed by the parents in a will.
As in any civilized country a mentally disabled person or minor child has to have a caretaker to help them handle their daily care and finances depending on the level of disability. There are many mentally handicapped people who are able to live on their own and handle their own expenses. A minor child or adult that is severely mentally handicapped and cannot handle their own finances would need an appointed guardian to help handle any inheritance but the property would still belong to the child who inherits. If the parents do not leave a will appointing that guardian then the state has to do it as the instance in this video. I would assume that in most cases parents would much prefer deciding their child’s future over having the government do it.
Any will has an executor to handle the dispensing of the possessions of the deceased. The appointed executor is usually in charge of making sure that a severely handicapped person’s inheritance is properly dispensed. Many times parents will choose a lawyer to do it. If the estate is too small to pay for a lawyer or executor to care for the finances then the parents can appoint a guardian for their child to oversee the care.
The guardian would help take care of the over site of the inheritance and the care of the child. It is up to the parents to put their desires in their will. If there are no arrangements made by the parents ahead of their death then the state is forced to get involved.
A child whose parents leave no will or income would be taken care of by government agencies and, yes, any property would be sold to help pay for the care of their child. This is why it is so important for parents, such as those referred to in this video, to make a will ahead of time. No one knows when an accident may happen. Even if the children have no handicap; parents should have a legal and binding will that states exactly who they want to care for their children and the division of the property. If there is no will then the state steps in and handles it in court. If there is a family member that wants the children there may be no problem but if their is a family squabble about who gets the children then it can get messy. It is important to see to such arrangements ahead of time.
Disabled people with no additional income from the parents are pretty well taken care of in the U.S. by government agencies. If someone does not want their property to go to their disabled child upon their death they can leave it to someone else. It would seem that if they are not now paying for the care of their child then they probably will not leave any inheritance to that child that would take away their government benefits. Is that fair? Someone is paying for the care of that child. It is up to each person to decide.

It does gall me that people like Jeff Bezos does not pay income tax and continues to pollute our fragile earth with his phallic machine, just for 30 seconds above the earth. Think of all the people on this earth he could save from hunger and disease with all the millions spent on his colossal ego.
I mostly enjoy these type of vids for the decoration and architecture, but I honestly have a hard time watching any other channel after finding this one. They just never have such amazing respect and obvious passion for the places and there always seems to be a gimic of sorts. I will keep eagerly waiting for more of these beautiful vids.

I live in the state of Minnesota, US and back in the day they took photos of area farms, and if you saw yours in the local newspaper you could go to the newspaper and you’d receive a glossy 8”x10” photo of your farm. My grandparents had theirs displayed in the living room for years. Also, the large tapestry that you said was two women ? I believe was a man on the left and the woman on the right . Leslie, this was a charming home at one time with some lovely pieces of furniture. Thank you for making this video … oh, just want to add my parents were 2 weeks shy of their 70th wedding anniversary when my dad died. My mom had two brothers and three sisters and all celebrated sixty or more years of marriage except her younger brother who died before he and his wife were married that long. Hope you are enjoying your trip in the US!

@@lindatimmons3675 They're literally right when Leslie walks out of the garage into the driveway and I could just barely see a few clusters of them in the bushes, but they weren't all ripe though, about half of them are ripe but the other ones are red
Surely Jules’ parents were aware of the fact that their son was incapable of maintaining the family homestead. Why, then, would they not arrange for the sale of the property after their deaths and for the proper care of their son in a facility? Instead, Jules is made to leave his home and is put in a mental asylum. The tragedy here is not so much in the abandonment of the homestead, but is in the forced living arrangements made for Jules after the death of his parents.
Truth be spoken. I also don't believe that he was "born" with a mental illness. Dysfunctions in a family are often not recognised, until they show up in mental illnesses of the children.
It says so much if people don't put their affairs in order before they die. Sort of reminds me of the fella in Australia who abducted the little girl. His mother had died and obviously he couldn't cope either. Sad all around.

As a resident of France, I can assure everyone that it is likely that the son would have been made a ward of the state by his parents before their death. The house will only be disposed of once it is established that NO other relatives have a claim on it. France has very established inheritance laws and the process of sorting this out can take many years.
