Because it is about how brutally hard life is in this world, whether you are old enough to remember it on that AM Radio, whether you ever made it big, or not. Because it is everyone's story.
Heard a recent interview with Glen Campbell on the radio. When asked what he liked most about fame he said being able to help his mum and dad get out of the grinding poverty he was brought up in.
That was just what the Doctor ordered! That was a beautiful tune penned by the great Jimmy Webb & I still love it!! Glen Campbell was an awesome guitarist and an even better vocalist. Someone should do the country a favor and re-release his music so a new generation can get a dose of something ever so excellent!
I was 12 when i heard this song and in America for the first time. My family and I were driving along when we came accross a Policeman directing traffic with his gun whilst singing, whilstling and doing tricks. We kids got a huge thrill out of this and just loved it. This evening for some reason the song came to my mind again and it brought the sheer joy of seeing and experiencing America through the eyes and ears of a child on that marvelous day in L.A. right back to me. Thanks.
Funny how a rocker like me actually loved this song when i was 5 yrs old. Still do actually. If Country music had stayed this good, I might have followed it more. Sadly, 90% of it over the last 25 yrs just plain sux!
The good songs have simply moved to where the lazy or stupid cannot find them. Human creativity has not waned; it has flourished and mind meltingly beautiful songs are produced daily
I think my parents must have listened to this when I was younger... I saw the title online, and suddenly realized I knew the words and tune to the chorus, and have had it stuck in my head for a while now. 0_o Great song, though!
I was a rhinestone cowboy for a 70s dance. They played it for me at the end. Didn’t have such a beautiful horse though. I did have a beautiful dark bay horse back then. (2022). He died in 2023, and around my birthday.
I was born in 1970 and I remember my parents playing this song on an eight track (it was released in 1975) in our car....I don't remember the make or model of car... maybe I should call them to find out, I'm not a car person.......I can't really remember the particulars, but I remember this was a great song.
This song even got a translation in Dutch, called "Vreemde Vogels" (Strange Birds; which is actually an expression meaning strangers) by Belgian singer-songwriter Claire.
take a look at that sunshine....and ive been singing"i really dont mind the rain " and a smile ....la la la the pain....and just had to look it up. i love you tube its here ah yes meant alot to dads in the 70s and its cool ..... mann........ v cool. go GC. living the dream.
I hate people who keep telling bad sides of other people. Good song is good song if you don't like it you don't have to say anything to discredit the singer. Glen is one of my favorite singer and I don't care about his personal life.
Just saw Glenn in Reno on his farewell tour, he opened with this song. It was great to get to see him with some of his kids playing his classics and some new songs.
That is true. There is hardly a diversity of different genres of music on the charts today. But then again, most of the music sounds alike, no matter what genre it is.
My memory was of my mom genie and an older sister who really knew herself but the self I saw her own left me trying myself. We all have so many reasons for our need for approval..in The end we just wanna be loved
Do you want applause? Why do people feel the need to point out their age when commenting on classic songs like this? Does it make you feel special to be 14 listening to this? When I was 14 back in 1990 I didn't feel special listening to the likes of The Who or Led Zeppelin.
This was one of my favorite songs when it first came out. I had it recorded on a portable audio cassette player. This was before I used headphones. I would play this tune over and over and my family got so tired of hearing this song that they sent me and my music outside. LOL
This music brings me memories back in the old days… 😞
I don't know why this song brings on feelings of melancholy. 😢
Maybe because it reminds you of your youth? And this is irretrievably over? At least that's how I feel.🙁
Because it is about how brutally hard life is in this world, whether you are old enough to remember it on that AM Radio, whether you ever made it big, or not. Because it is everyone's story.

アメリカ人ですが、多くの日本人がアメリカのカントリーやワイルドウエストの文化を好きなことが本当に素晴らしいと思います。
Talk about leaning your head back, closing your eyes, and travelling back to times when everything just seemed to matter more.

A song that always brings back lovely memories of my dad.....he was and always will be, my Rhinestone Cowboy ..❤
Songs from ones childhood, songs of mum and dad, unbeknown then, some of the best years of your life
This is one guy who has more talent in his little finger than many modern artists. I love all his songs.

I'm 63 & still enjoying this kind of music. The 60's & 70's produced some wonderful artists that withstood the test of time.
yeah you are so right....they dont make em like this anymore....one of my favourites
The year was 1976. I went to Rose's and purchased my first 45. Oh, a 45...it's a circular disc. 1976😮

Great memories of the summer of 1975. Between this and "Love Will Keep Us Together" I was pretty sure one of them would be the new national anthem.
Ha! He's in the country in a video singing 'bout walking these dirty streets? He was one of my first "crushes" ❤ I love his music. RIP fellow Zonie!
This has been my karaoke song for years !

Great song and memories. Looking at Glen on the horse assures me that he is no cowboy. Note that one hand is almost on the saddlehorn.
