I love this, except the backlights though.
Agreed. They could have found a way to integrate the original backlights into the body similar to what was proposed for the Project Ant aka Barrel Car Mini prototype (not to mention the updated front end of the proposal in question would have significantly improved engine accessibility amongst other things if they were inclined).
This is inspirational to say the least. I'm ready to get out in the garage and get to work. Love that interior.
I like it by far more than the BMW new Mini
While I think this is an awesome Mini and I can appreciate that a limited production hand-built car would cost a lot extra but £75k (according to David Brown website for this model) that's a bit steep. If you look at something like the Morgan which are limited production hand-built car's they're around £40k. For this sort of money I would have also expected it to be a hatchback (which was something that the Mini should have come as originally, Austin even made 3 prototype hatchback's) which would have made it even more up to date and a lot more practical.

Agreed. It's a real shame all around, because having a new company preserve the classic Mini in a new release is a great idea (similar to the revival in the 90s), but 80K? Ludicrous.
The worst part is, it doesn't look substantially different from the classic (which is obviously a good thing), so while it's a lovingly built modern iteration, most people on the street aren't even going to see the pound value as it drives on by.
It feels like it fails on two fronts:
- It's not going to revive/create a new generation of classic roadworthy Minis, because it's too expensive for the average consumer.
- It's doesn't work as a rich man's flashy toy, because to the average Joe on the street, it barely looks noticeable different as it whizzes by.
I wish someone would do something like this, create a modern-standard classic Mini in an affordable price range.
At this price range, you could literally just buy an ACTUAL classic Mini in great condition and then upgrade the internals and externals to modern tech for far cheaper.

What has happened to the sills? Have they been re-engineered to ensure they can't rot from the inside out? they look like dreaded oversills

Standard drivetrain

£50k will get you two Mini Cooper S and they will hold their value.
some like the deseaming, others don't. my dad ran minis in the 70s and it was the 'in' thing to do.
and if the drivetrain is the same as the originals from 2000 and before, then I think 130MPH on the clock is beyond enthusiastic! (unless you have fitted a 5 speed box, supercharger and have a higher rev limit through a better built engine, stronger valve springs etc)

A car that once costed around 1500 pounds new is now going out for 100.000
What fool would not just restore it themselves at a fraction than pay for overloaded hipster rendition.
Because this is not a restore, this is a rebuild.
hi, very nice mini that catch's a taste of the 50's it reminds me of a modern fiat 500 take of the old 500, when a mini is deseamed you can see how close it looks to 1950 morris and austins in its lines (if you forget its flat roof) most mini rebuilders do the same thing big wide wheels stuck as far out as the arches will allow, engine update for more power white roof, stripes , racing seat etc. therefore another mini done up to look like the rest of them joins the road and yet there is so much more you can do to improve the look of your mini with just a bit of imagination. thanks dolores

Good looking, it takes away the budget low-fi features and adds perfect panel fit, pristine finish and quality detailing. The new features that are modern don’t look out of place. If it has modern reliability it’s a perfect bargain.
that is exactly how the modern mini should look like, very close exterior look to the classic but with modern technology to improve the performance

You could just get a Limited edition Mini Cooper with factory wooden dash, leather seats, air-conditioning, fuel injection in a very capable engine and rocking paint job. All for just under < £20K. Just google Mini LE 35th edition!

Somehow, i really like this original mini look without the today's cluttered gadgets.. easy breazzy just like the old days.. if only the price is cheaper than JCW

not particularly, its the 1275 engine with fuel injection but pretty sure its still got the 4 speed in sump gearbox
It's still a mini (just) for that money you could get a decent car ,reminds me of a harry Enfield's sketch ,does it come with a chauffeur?

The original Austin Cooper Seven was for sale in 1959 for around 500 pounds in the UK, now convince me to agree on you that this is rightfully 200 times that amount.
The first Coopers weren't debuted until 1961, actually.
correct. I forget the figure but the original mini sold at under £500. Ford bought one, stripped it down and couldn't see how British Leyland (as they became known later) made ANY profit on them!
