7:30 I think you’re spot on with what you said. I hope you understand why a lot of us are nervous about this release. As I’ve said before, I would genuinely pay full price ($70) for a game that has the amount of flavor and detail these talks hint at. I know Paradox doesn’t like to do this, but if they sold a full price game with free updates I think that would be soooo good in the long run and lifespan of this game.
I’m glad they haven’t announced anything concrete yet, and truthfully I hope we get something far away like a 2027 release date. I’m getting more and more excited for this though :3

There's no way the game will have free updates, at least not unless you're expecting to buy EU6 soon.
Long term development and patches/updates need funding, and if they're not getting that via DLC sales, or a subscription service fee, they'd be better off putting EU5's sales into EU6 development instead.

I would love to see if paradox adds a modifier for Mansa Musa, as the inflation and drop in the price of gold he caused with his pilgrimage to Mecca should still be present to some extent, especially in the middle east, that would be a lot of work for the paradox team though so it's very much understandable if such a minor factor wouldn't be considered for the game.

The situations feature seems very cool, closer to the ck3 unique cultural mechanics for iberia and persia then vicky 3's journal entries or stellaris' situations, which is a big big plus. One thing about the italian wars: the big defining element for italian foreing policy at the time was the balance of power; most italian states hated the invaders just as much as they hated each other, this then led to much much side switching as it was basically always a coalition war against the strongest power that year (one year it could be venice, the next it could be france, the one after spain, etc). I'm not saying that johan should add such a cyclical mechanic, but I do hope that the three italian leagues are gonna have pleanty of reasons to hate and fight each other just as much as the french, imperial and iberian leagues. ( And I also do hope for opportunistic side switching for the league members, as this would put some difference between the gameplay of league leaders who need to keep the members happy and the members who are gambling on who will win the next war and are trying to gain as much as possible for themselves)

  • @danilmamchich7923

It's a little bit strange, that paradox talk so much about Italian leagues and confirm that it would be 100 years war as situation, but denies to implement deluge for Commonwealth, which involves, cossacks rebellion with creating new country, war with Muscovy and war with Sweden, IMHO, this chain of events decides fate of eastern Europe for decades
Also, now in eu4 there no mechanic for register cossacks and no flavor for Zaporizhian Sich, interesting, will Paradox include this in eu 5, or no(cause there was approximately 17 cossacks rebels, from 16th to 18th century, it's like revolt every 10 years!)

I think (Early) Ottoman Expansion situation should be a situation with Catholic & Orthodox nations having the option to send crusades to support Byzantium, Christian nations neighbouring the Ottomans having the option to fight the Ottomans or join them as loyal vassal (and maybe later switch back allegiance during a crusade).
Another situation would be the 100 years war involving countries in the regions of France, Great Britain and Ireland, where each party will have the choice of picking and switching a side (like the Duke of Burgundy) or sitting on the fence.

When the American revolution fires, the IO should have varying number of states joining, up to 18(13 + Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Quebec and both Floridas). I think eu5 will have a lot of content at release, compared to ck3 and vic3. The reason is because eu4 is all about the content. It isn't rp focused like ck or economy focused like vic.
At release ck3 was already a great rp game, and vic3, despite issues with war, government and other stuff, the economy system was solid. The content came later. Vic 3 needed it more than ck3, which was already a fun game to play if you liked the rp part mainly. I enjoyed it at release, sans any dlc.
Eu4's biggest feature is the breadth of experience you get, you need lots of different content and diverse content for that. So I'm not surprised they're including so much content at release compared to the other releases.

@ZlewikkTV yeah! Dymitriads but also polish elections as well!
Dymitriads - supporting different factions in the muscovite times of troubles - muscovite nobles 1 2 3 etc, cossac ones, polish magnates, polish crown, swedes. at first support for a "better dimitri", but if support strong enough, promote a non-dimitri candidate (vide Vladislav IV Vasa or even his father ;) ). factions gaining score by battles, control of muscovite land, diplomatic actions (influencing Boyars and separately ortho church), occupation of cities like Moscow, Smolensk, Novgorod. (separate form holding land!). Poland occupied Moscow for 2 years and had not lost a battle yet, Boyars promoted Vladislav, but polish crown selfpromoted Sigismund himself, which gave time for other muscovite candidate to consolidate and win over boyar support. While as we remember, dimitriads began with: polish magnates and cossac dmitri, cossac dmitri, boyar dmitri, and then King of Poland himself came to propose himself and boyars decided to support polish kings son.
similarly elections for polish crown mostly happened on the moment when Sejm Elekcyjny was summoned after last kings death or resignation (valois). Mostly at that moment is when candidates would appear and be promoted. sure some were promoted silently during previous kings reign, but it was never decisive. so during Elective Sejm, you could have diplomatic action at first, then a succession war among candidates who earned at least 20% support. - magnate armies popping up with their candidates or biggest supporters as generals. Like Sigismund III Vasas election was not without contestation, as magnates supporting one (out of 3!!!) of Habsburg candidates raised an army which had to be defeated by Sigismund supporters. Like this shouldnt be just any pretender rebel, but fleshed out mechanic of internal and external diplomacy which could result in rising of one or multiple pretenders in strength of which you could have indirect influence upon. like, through forreign influence you could prevent a candidate, or during fights severely weakening him by making forreign support end. and you can choose, as polish or forreign player, what candidate you support and what kind of post election relations they offer - Sboeiskis son was promised french support, which never came and we got saxons and being juniors to saxony. then sweden supported Leszczynski, which would offer vassalage/client to Sweden, and then again client status of poniatovski towards russia.

I think that Ottoman expansion in Europe should be a situation, as IRL it was a situation that, besides the Ottomans and Byzantines, also heavily involved the other Balkan nations, Italian maritime republics, the Pope, Hungary, and realistically all of Eastern Europe and even parts of Western Europe. Realistically, the Ottomans should probably be getting some pretty tremendous buffs in the early game, particularly to their numbers (they clearly had armies that dwarfed those of even major regional powers like Hungary, even if we take exaggeration by Christian sources into account) and their ability to core new lands (their administration was very efficient), but also the ability to form leagues by the resisting Balkan powers, call crusades by Catholic powers (and perhaps even Orthodox ones on good terms with the Pope), and force disasters upon the Ottomans (like the damage imposed by Timur and Vlad Dracul, or the various civil wars they fought in the period).
Ultimately, I think this issue should be able to end in several ways. The most obvious is the IRL version of Ottoman victory and smashing all the way into Hungary and the gates of Vienna, but there should also be specific victory outcomes for Hungary, Venice, and the local powers, since each of them ultimately had at least some level of designs on the whole region, and probably a special one for Byzantium, since we Paradox fans love restoring Byzantium. There should also be a scenario in which an outside power takes over, since EU4 players often rush the Balkans to nerf the Ottomans and expand for low AE, and Austria, Russia, and even France, Aragon, and the Timurids could reasonably take over in player hands before 1453. There should also probably be different levels/kinds of Ottoman victory where the territory is better or worse integrated (like IRL it was poorly integrated, hence all the states breaking away later and such, but it was in service of short term benefits like higher jizya tax and forced conscription of locals, so there should be at least short term benefits to lower integration), and maybe a scenario where the Ottomans go all in for becoming the third Rome and convert to Orthodoxy (unlikely, but a lot of people play Orthomans so it's a way to add flavor to something players will definitely do at some point).

30 years war should be actually set in the 1600 as the conflicts in the 1500 were more with a religious background... so it should rather be separate: a Schmalkaldic war ended with some form of the treaty of Augsburg and a 30 years war that ends with a westphalian treaty... which does decide how centralized the HRE will be...

How about there being a situation related to the hanseatic control over the baltic/scandinavian trade and/or the crowns of scandinavia? I believe that countering the Hansa historically was a major reason for the nobles agreeing to the formation of the Kalmar Union. And there were conflicts involving the Danish crown, the Hansa, Sweden and its nobles (probably also Danish and perhaps Norwegian ones as well at some point) both before and after the Union's formation. Pirates could also be added as a factor.
But perhaps this would be better simulated through some other mechanic instead; its hard for me to say.

with regard to the situations and the colonization of the Americas, things like Pontiac's rebellion or King Philip's War would actually be well-represented by situations, coalitions of colonial and indigenous forces against each other, with colonial sides including native allies as well

I think there should be some mechanic regarding the Ki family of Korea. They held massive influence in both Yuan and Goryeo, and if things went differently they may even have become the Habsburgs of Asia. The most famous figure, Empress Ki, was a very prominent figure in the Yuan and played a large role during the red turban rebellions.

Time of Troubles would be a big one. Didn't think of that.
A big one for me is the religious leagues wars. In eu4 it's basically 2 big coalitions buying heads for 5-10y. Historically, it was multiple separate wars, with two of the biggest subsections being the Dutch vs the Spanish and the Protestants in the HRE vs the Emperor. Let's focus on the second one for a bit, though. France supported the Protestants in order to weaken the Emperor by sending money, and England sent a bit, too. The Ottomans took advantage of a weakened Eastern flank. After initially being led by German Protestants, Sweden took leadership in the war after Germany was ravaged. So it was really many separate wars with outside intervenes.

Will something like the industrialisation or protestant reformation a situation or a different mechanic?
I want the German unification to be a situation. So if one country unites a larger portion of the german culture group and is under attack by a world power. Smaller German states with good relations can unite with this country forming a Norddeutscher Bund or similar. Obviously a late game situation around the time of revolution.

Imo any nationalism oriented things (spring of nations) aren't suitable for this timespan. Conquest of Germany can be a power issue in HRE but nothing connected with nationality.

Definetely situation worth of considering in my opinion is Rise of Timur. It would have been great event chain that would either unite the whole persia region under one empire or disunite it under multiple states. This type of events would be great for better immersion and change of order for the decades depending on actions we or AI takes.

I think situations are heavily inspired from the struggles in ck3, that is represent situations where multiple small countries along with a few powerful others fight for control over a region. But seeing as the Ilkhanate collapsed in 1335, and the Chagathai are very weak, it's basically a free-for-all situation in 1335 Persia

The italian wars situation is pretty much that. There are 3 outside factions (french austrian and iberian) and 3 inside factions of random italians. The imperials are represented through the austrian faction and the popeists are represented through the french faction (the french were the primary help of the pope and historically the allies of the pope were also allies of france)
