I have struggled with excess weight since my mid teens ( I am now 64). I tried very hard to lose weight but could never manage it for long. After retiring, I found it much easier.
I think that low level, chronic stress was the driving force. I would combat stress with junk food. I would watch a lot of TV and eat snack-like things that took no, or very little, preparation.
In the last year I have become vegan and lost even more weight as a result. I would never have had the self-control to be vegan when I was working. Stress has a lot to answer for.

    Bonjour Frederique!
My favorite weight loss tip is to slowly drink a glass of water before each meal. Also, if I ever feel hungry for a snack I always drink mint, chamomile, or sage tea (without sugar) to see if I am really hungry or just thirsty. If I am still hungry, my snacks are usually a piece of fruit or vegetable or a handful of almonds or a small square of dark chocolate.
Thank you so much for all these wonderful videos! I will be moving to France in the future and I was wondering if you can make a What French families eat in a day video because all the information I am seeing on the internet is vague or stereotypical. Its impossible for me to imagine French people eating all of these dense foods every single day :P

Great advice overall. I only differ in one way. I eat whole food, plant based food, no sugar, oil. While I'm losing my last 10 lbs I am not having avocado or nuts. I've been eaten a healthy, unprocessed vegan diet for four years. 67 years young and I feel great.

I lost a lot of weight this year since lockdown started in March (I'm in New York). I was afraid of gaining weight being so sedentary so I simplified my diet to the same thing every day. Breakfast is always a large cappuccino (I'm not a big breakfast eater), lunch is always a few hard-boiled eggs - I get from a local farmer. They're so satisfying. And dinner is a fresh salad or soup, some fish or chicken or meat and whatever fresh vegetables I can find at my farmers market. I may eat some fruit one or two days a week. I don't cut back on fat or oil. I eat very few carbs. I drink a glass of wine with dinner. I go for a walk every day but have not been to a gym in almost 9 months. I've lost about 8 pounds since April. It's really about the food I believe, and not the exercise. Love your videos!

The lighting in this video is beautiful! Sugar is so addictive and I really never buy sweets and keep them around the house unless it's a special occasion and I tend to eat most of it. Then I get mad at myself. I can't eat high fiber foods so I struggle with getting enough fruits and vegetables into my day, but I try. During this pandemic I eat out at restaurants much less so that's helped me drop a few pounds and I walk every other day for a total of about 17 miles a week. Love the flowers!!

Thanks for a fun video, Frederique! Tip: I don't eat after 6:30 pm (except maybe water). Digestion is fully complete before heading to bed, makes for good sleep, and, of course, less calories. Go to bed by 10 pm, get up at 6:30, and you have a great 8 1/2 hours of rest, and no calories for 12 hours. Sort of like a mini-fasting. I try to follow this every day as best as possible. I'm 66 and retired. Walking every day for one hour is my exercise!

My slim tips are to not eat dessert, only on a weekend or as a treat. Never have second helpings either. One meal a day is usually soup. I don't deny myself anything, so I eat bread, chocolate, patisserie etc, just not very much or often. I hate the gym, but I do try and walk as much as possible. All that seems to work - I'm not tiny but a UK size 10 which I'm happy with. A big no no is don't sit watching tv, snacking at the same time because I used to do that and I'd almost go into a state of hypnosis automatically stuffing my face!

Great advice , Frederique! Two sides of a coin... I was never over weight before I started a corporate job and spent much I my day at my desk. Yes, I made many l trips up and down stairs at work and at home. Did it help? No. My breakfast was minimal. My lunch was always at a restaurant. Dinner consisted of popcorn and a Coke, if I worked late. And, let's not forget a Snickers candy bar daily. When I became self employed, I went back to healthy eating; not much meat, two servings of fruit and three to five servings of vegetables, very little processed food. Dark chocolate is my usual daily sweet treat in the evening. Drinking enough water (not easy for me) has also made a big difference. My 'trick' is...Because I have given myself permission to eat whatever and whenever I want, I feel free, I make good choices and don't feel deprived. To cut the need for discipline, I bring very little junk food into by home. I exercise more and sleeping is a breeze. I do want to look great, but as years have gone by an even bigger motivator is health.

Love the video. I've been on a long gradual road to loose weight myself. I eat healthy , my weakness is crisps with sparkling wine! Agh! Just two more pounds to go! The killer for me is the alcohol. So I've decided to buy less but buy better quality! I drink less because of this. Also, it is a real mental exercise for me to resist those habits I've acquired -when and why I have that little cocktail or glass of champagne. For me, learning those 'Triggers' I'm able to overcome and distract with other healthy choices. The reward is priceless! Healthy mind/ Healthy Body. I walk twice a day with my dog and able to swim at the beach is my mental outlet. I highly recommend getting outside with NO electronics, not even EarPods or music. Allowing yourself to be healed from within and listen without all the noise.

I live in Belgium (Flemish region) and when in Paris, I was told that French women do not work out but they stay slim by multiple short functional walks (daily grocery shopping by foot, walk to work after public transport, walks to café, restaurant...) and that makes sense! And they take a coffee when they feel the need to snack 😂. Belgian women would rather park their car in front of shops, work etc in order to gain time because they work to hard and do not take enough care of themselves! My heath tip:
Eat two breakfasts. Then eat one to two more meals throughout the day as needed depending on activities and how you feel. My theory is to get warm nourishing slow burning carbohydrates and low inflammation omega-6 fats into the intestinal tract. To give it energy and wake it up. Then as blood sugar is starting to rebound a second breakfast high in protein and fat but low in carbs is given to continue flow of energy.
    7-8am-First Breakfast
Sauteed apples, pears, plums or berries in a lot of butter with cinnamon, clove, vanilla extract and add walnuts at the end just to warm them. Serve on top of cinnamon oatmeal that is drizzled with maple syrup and a pat of butter.
    10-11am-Second Breakfast
Three egg omelet with sauteed mushroom medley, herbs and cheese with a side of fresh greens.
Or smoked salmon in place of mushrooms
I have a BS in Nutrition and Dietetics and study traditional healing methods. Much love😘

Looking into intuitive eating has helped me a lot. I get stressed out by the thought of cutting out food groups and controlling my portions, which instantly makes me crave those foods "one more time" and has me starting to obsess over them. I have found a mindset of "eating a lot of what's good for you" and then still allowing myself to eat sweets if I still want them to be most beneficial. That way I never binge on sweets and have started craving healthy foods most of the time naturally.

Totally agree with alot of these reasons, especially agree with the 80/20 rule and minimising/eradicating snacking. I have been using Intermittent Fasting 16:8 for around 5 months, its a great way of keeping my calories in check having that 8 hr eating window. I still monitor my intake but it feels pretty effortless way for me to maintain a healthy weight. I eat 3 good sized meals a day and one small snack in my eating window.
As for 1200 calories, that is a nope!! alot of misconceptions about the magic number of 1200! only applies if you're very short and very old so it's a HUGE NO on that one! I'm petite, and over 50 but I am also pretty active (average around 14k steps a day and lift weights), I maintain on 1900 calories - if I wanted/needed to lose a few pounds I'd cut back to 1600 to lose 0.5lb approx per week. Eating very low calorie is a sure fire way to lose muscle which we do not want to happen.
Oh and carbs are not the enemy, I didn't do without them to lose weight, its just not necessary to cut out carbs....OK think I'm done now LOL

Lots of great tips! I think if you shift your thinking from depriving yourself of food and punishing yourself with exercise to nourishing yourself with delicious, healthy food and moving your body because you want good health, it is a much better motivation. I know I am also most likely to overreat or reach for something unhealthy if I am hungry, so making sure you have satisfying, healthy meals helps too.

Bonjour, Frédérique, intermittent fasting is an extremely effective weight-loss method, and many people have adopted it as a permanent lifestyle regime. It's been shown to have substantial physical and cognitive benefits, as well. However, I realize it is anathema to the French way of eating!

The tip for maintaining the weight of fresh and unprocessed food is to eat until 7 in the evening, maximum sports ..... with us Jews, Rambam said .. in the morning you will eat like a king at noon like a prince and in the evening like a poor man !!! Rambam was a very wise doctor who talked about the health of body and mind and how important it is to maintain the body ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Merci for these great tips! I love intermittent fasting... I only eat/drink alcohol between noon and 8pm. It’s harder now since I am at home and not out working. It’s so much easier when I’m busy and the kitchen is not nearby! Also I drink only black coffee (with no flavor or cream or sweeteners). I love your channel!

You make good points and advice.
............. I dont know how old you are but menopause makes you gain weight.
Without changing ANYTHING in your life hormonal changes mean you lose estrogen and your body wants to replace it so holds onto fat because it has an estrogen in it.
So at this time of life it is more important than ever to exercise and eat well.....
But there is always room for 1 biscuit but
the challenge is not demolishing the whole packet.

It's also amazing how much better you feel when you stay off the junk! If I cheat I start to feel crappy. Started also to have mostly lean protein and veggies for dinner and eat between 10 am and 6pm then done for the day!!! Love your channel , keep it up!

Walking and yoga every day is the key for my weight control. Additionally, this year I started to eat a vegan and pescatarian diet. By having a protein, vegetable and fruit shake for lunch every day, I started to see great results. Then, I added seafood two times a week. I lost 25 pounds during the time many people were putting on their pandemic pounds. The best part is how good my gut feels.

    Hello Frédérique,
Your recommendations on weight loss are healthy and sound. Drinking lots of water is important too. Water is good for your brain, skin and organs. If you’re watching your calories, a big glass of water can help you feel fuller and you know your making your body happy and healthy.

To control my proportion intake, I don’t keep goodies at home in the kitchen, only real food. Usually if it’s out of sight, it’s out of mind. If I badly want it, I go out and get it, but generally don’t keep goodies in the home.

My advice is to find healthy foods that you enjoy eating. If you don’t like cabbage, don’t eat it! There are so many natural and healthy foods. You will find something that you truly love to eat, and you won’t feel deprived. Also, if you want a treat, just buy a single serving. That way, you won’t be able to overindulge.

When you said fast food, that's definitely a big one to stay away from. I had some earlier today, BUT I ordered a happy meal from McDonald's instead of a regular size meal (I have fast food like 1-2 times a month). Satisfied my craving without the guilt and since I'm only 4'11" (149.86 cm), it's like the perfect size for me...at least that's what I'm telling myself since I used to eat the large ones! Made lunch for tomorrow: Quinoa bowl with black beans, sweet potato, chicken, and avocado :D so much better.
Also, my favorite weight loss tips are:
    - Order smaller sizes of food or single serve items if you want a sweet treat. Yes, sugar isn't good for us, but getting a small macaroon ice cream sandwich is better than buying a pint of ice cream or cake unless you plan on sharing it with a friend. I can't have sweets in the house unless I make it myself or I binge.
    - Intermittent fasting is wonderful for weight loss as long as you don't burn yourself out. Start slow and work your way up.
    - Drink tea instead of "dessert coffees". I make a matcha latte with almond milk and a little stevia if I want to add some sweetness or drink it plain. If you want coffee, make it yourself or get healthier choices.

Hi Frederique!..... New subscriber here! .....I laughed a lot at this video..... you are a great lady, witty and charming... this vlog reminded me to go back to losing weight..... been going around it for quite some time..... I'm currently doing the Japanese water therapy - drinking 2 glasses of room temp. water upon waking up and eating breakfast after 45mins..... I've done IF (intermittent fasting) before and was thinking about going back to it.....hoping to attend to that soon for my own better health and will try to follow your advice (take note "will try" hahaha) merci beaucoup!

You look very nice in that white shirt. I need to lose about 20-30 lbs to be skinny again and I really thought working from home was going to help because I have so much time to exercise. Ends up, I'm just lazy. I do eat a lot of fruit and don't make much unhealthy food but I definitely need to up my vegetable game and control my portion sizes more. I wish I had friends nearby so we could all eat together and SLOW DOWN and talk during dinner. Instead, my husband eats all food in about 3 seconds and even though it takes me longer, I still need to slow down much more.

I recently lost 8 kg... intermittent fasting, and cutting out all sugar, and reducing carbs. It’s surprising how many “so called healthy foods” are loaded with sugar or carbs. Read the ingredients on packages ! I do not eat processed foods....or buy any foods that have additives or a long list of ingredients.
Cut out wine....totally, and was hard for the first week....but now do not even feel like it.
