I'm from California, I live on a small farm and my mother taught us; "you don't go to town in your work clothes". Therefore, I totally agree with the French concept of going to the Bakery showered and fully dressed. It is a sign of respect, not only for the bakery staff, but for yourself!! I detest the way many women go to "town" in their workout clothes or even worse, in pajama pants!!! The US is known for their high percentage of obesity. It is so sad. I personally believe in a balanced diet......not dieting! I love your channel, keep up the good work!!!

This is all good advice! And, thank you for addressing that laziness in hygiene and dress is not appreciated when at a public places. I would also add that when you go to an art show no matter how sophisticated or humble the gallery is, DRESS UP to the show!!! Aesthetics MATTER when beauty is on display.

So true. Why has it become so sensitive to say that those of us who are overweight tend to eat too much, eat the wrong food, and exercise to little? It is not a personal attack to state facts. Go Freddie!

But what if you are unable to stop yourself?if it was so good easy, nobody would be overweight or be an abuser of (other) substances. After struggling with my weight for decades, I finally found help in the form of hypnotherapy. Which helped me detect the point when I 've had enough food and gives me the opportunity to choose to stop eating. I was (over) eating and caught in a guilt trap, beating myself up mentally, feeling weak and cowardly and spineless... feeling remorse and guilt when I was eating... all the while not able to control myself and my intake of food, and not per definition unhealthy food. Just too much. Always eating until my stomach slightly hurt. It was my awful reality for almost 50 years of my life.

So glad someone is saying what others won’t. Eat healthy, eat enough not too much, exercise regularly, and don’t snack between meals. It’s not rocket science! I also hate folk wearing gym clothes as “leisure wear” its sports wear, don’t wear it unless you are doing sports! It’s so sad how many young people now are obese and don’t recognise it because others are scared of “body shaming “ them, its not healthy to be overweight and it costs the taxpayer money and puts a strain on the health service!

As a post-menopausal woman, my secret weapon is intermittent fasting. I do not consume any calories between 7 pm and 11 am. Then I have 2 nutritious meals a day with a small snack in between. I can enjoy my one glass of red wine with dinner, too. IF has been the only thing that works for keeping my weight where I want it and keeping that belly fat off. And, of course, I exercise - I still need to keep my strength and flexibility.

I loved "My body is a temple, my mind is a fortress!" So true! I have, not really on purpose, started eating a single food in the evening. For example. I just ate a small avocado with lemon pepper. That was dinner. Or maybe a roasted sweet potato with butter. I have cafe au lait (unsweetened almond milk) in the morning (rarely eat brekkie). I eat 1/2 my lunch (usu. a salad with chicken) at 11:30-12:00 and the other half around 3 pm instead of a snack. I have (almost) kicked my sugar habit too! Yay me!

You are so right about the fresh food. However, it's too late for the majority of Americans. They already have insulin resistance and need to go super low carb with fasting. These are wonderful tips! Thanks.

I was watching an American RUclipsr, Little Poet, speaking about lifelong struggle with weight, and she was sharing how we American women grow up with such a negative inner self talk. She said the way she spoke to herself was abusive. And I was wondering if your course addresses some of that inner self talk? How are French women brought up to think about themselves and their self worth? I think that is something I am going to pay more attention to in future as I think it has a huge impact on how we feel and value ourselves, and how we take care of ourselves or give up. And I wish to say that I am planning to take your course when I have lost 5kg, as a reward to myself. 💕

Great content! It's like we are chatting over a coffee at my kitchen table! Gosh, you would be shocked at how athletic wear has taken over the US. Women of all ages are running around in gym clothes everywhere. They are under the delusion that if they paid a lot for something it is okay to wear outside of the gym. I am glad my mom was a fashionista and insisted that her daughters look their best. My 71 year old sister won't step out of her home without brushing her hair, putting on lipstick and dressing well. She says you never know who you will "run into" at the store, post office, etc. I'm in my 50's and love finding smart casual looks. Thanks for another fun video!

Thank you for this video. First, I want to say, I live in the United States but I LOVE different cultures! I am mostly Italian because my father’s parents moved here from Sicily and my mothers father is also mostly Italian. I totally understand the way you describe the way French people eat. Being Italian is a little similar. Italians love their food and eating either in the home or eating out at a restaurant , can take many hours. We love to visit and enjoy each other’s company. My husband and I have traveled to some different countries in Europe but we need to travel to France. I know we will love it! Although. I am American Italian,, our favorite restaurants are French! I love also the whole experience of dining at a real French restaurant. The decor, the tablecloth’s, the wine, etc. Recently during the last 2 years I have gained weight and need to take it off. Thank you for the tips and enthusiasm you gave. I love the French!! Thank you again…🙂 I will try the fasting as well as eating more fresh foods..

I agree with all your tips, especially as I have gotten older and have worked in roles that require a lot of travel (by car especially) it is much harder to shift those pounds once they arrive, but I have developed a few 'rules 'of my own.
Free exercise - I have found if I can include 'exercise' walking, cyclling anything like that into my life naturally for example walking to and work if you can - you have to get to work and home if you can walk at least a part of each way.....
A friend of mine says never give up your stairs - either within your house or if you live in an apartment and it is from the first floor up take the stairs not the lift.
Anything that requires you going from your home - to walk the dog, to go to the shop etc if you can walk and if it is not far try to add in an extra bit to the journey so you make it worthwhile.
And moderation in all things but especially in dessert, alcohol and chocolate (none of that is easy!!)

But same time if I’m starving, I’m going to cook something and I cook mainly fresh all the time, except when I’m sick and can’t then I will have a ready meal. An occasional takeaway. And I will say I bought plate from 70’s was such a difference to modern plates! I never have a huge portion though

It all makes sense. It is about balance within all areas in life and being smart!
It made me laugh many times, when i eat out or am invited to somebody's home... mostly i get to eat a lot, much of it as curtesy because the effort, love and excitement the host has put in food, organizing the gathering to the little details... you really cannot say no but try little of all... that means very light food for the next 2 or 3 days... and dont regret it!! Changes can be made just need time and compassion!! Thank you 🤗❤

Hello, you talk about willpower to control the intake of food. Personally I was unable to do that and could not feel the point where I 'd had enough food. I was helped by hypnotherapy, where many of the tips that you suggest in your video, are imprinted on your subconscious as new convictions so you can behave like that without having to struggle with willpower. I lost enough weight to fit into a European size 42, which was my goal. It went very slow over a period of 3 years but I manage to stay on this weight/size without much of a struggle. I hope this is useful to some of your viewers.

I will point out. It sounds like for you, and many, it wasn't a lack of willpower that caused your overeating but psychological.
I've had hypnotherapy for other reasons and it was life changing! Would recommend it to anyone!
Massive congratulations to you for being kind to yourself and digging deep into your binge eating. I've struggled with this myself and know how miserable it can be.

So many people I work with constantly complain they can’t loose weight. Meanwhile they order out 2-3 times a week. Pizza, hoagies, burgers, and big portions of it all. 🤦‍♀️ Everyone asks me how I stay so thin. I can’t eat a lot of anything. My stomach naturally tells me blah stop! No matter how good it is. Kind of a natural portion control. And the new intermittent fasting is something I’ve always done without knowing it’s a good thing to do. Like you I don’t eat until closer to 11 AM, last having had a snack at 9 PM.

Useful information and as always with the personal witty funny touch of Freddie's!
If I may add some infos on this subject (I am not a nutritionist but I have studied on my own some of the eastern approach to food, like macrobiotic and in general I love the traditional Japanese way of cooking), legumes are great when you want something nutritious and if you have any issues with "pooping".
I know 'legumes' means veggies in French but I mean beans, chickpeas and such, which give you a boost of energy and fibers too 😉!
Also, seaweed, soy sauce and spices to flavor your dishes and use less salt and miso are all great additions to ANY diet 😃❤️
And yes, be smart about it all.
I mean, this is coming from a gal who enjoys her daily glass of wine, sometimes two, but if you eat healthy your body just knows how to balance your ... indulgences 😁
    I hope this may help

    So true!
Plate size and palm or fist portion. I always finish meal or include fruit with. Natural sugar so little craving.
I also dress for meal like going to bakery. No lounging with shovel..lol
I have very pretty parfait or desert bowls I serve veggies or fruit portion..
See difference in clothes and just enjoy experimenting with oils and recipes for veggies. Grape seed oil main go too. Good to reduce inflammation.
Only frozen fruit or veg, no process food and definitely no fast food. It all can be done on limited budget.
    Thanks for sharing..

Thank you for reminding me to not allow the scale to be my judge. I love eating fresh vegetables, fruit and meat and some bread. I like the idea of not eating bread and pasta together. That was great advice. Thank you.

I love what you said, if your over weight your eating crappy food.
Dinner plates are much bigger now, than l remember having growing up. I have started using as a dinner plate ,,a side plate or a small bowl.

Best better life “diet” book I’ve read is “French Women don’t get fat” that combines “Joie de vivre” with with common sense and inspirational easy recipes:) and is exactly what you are teaching us:))

Thank you for this video! I am on a journey to get healthier and watched your previous video with tips last year. Your statement about food not being a trophy was a real revelation for me. Until then, I had been using food as a reward but your video absolutely changed this.
    Amazing, uplifting video as usual!

Great video ♥️ I heard the English comment before, and yes, intermittent fasting is great. I would add that, protein should be the base of your meal, then eat either fat or Carb but not both.

I enjoyed this video and the honest truth. I sure would like to change my eating habits. We are constantly sold to in america. There are many fast food places, advertising on tv. I barely watch tv anymore, stopped eating fast food a very long time ago but we are taught by well meaning parents to eat 3 square meals in a day and apparently that’s already one too many! There are so many processed foods for each meal . You get the idea. But it would feel wonderful not to struggle so much with my weight.

Great tips- thank you!,thank you, thank you! I cook everyday , but I think I have to make a bit better choices (like salad with just a balsamic vinegar...although I think that EVOO is actually good for us). I'm doing no sugar, no starch ,no alcohol starting January 2nd :)
