I'm glad you mentioned physical activity. Years ago I joined my local gym because I just wanted to move around, one of the trainers asked me what my goal was, and I said I just wanted to be healthy, he looked at me very surprised and after that day, he didn't talk to me ever again because my goal wasn't to lose weight but simply be healthy. @@Edukalebylucie I've seen many people @ the gym who work out much harder than moi yet they are obese. I don't dare ask them what their eating habits are.
Moderation is key. Listening to your body is so important. Everyone hears this but everyone likes to overcomplicate it. Once I started doing this I lost weight just from a diet cause I wasn’t able to workout.
I find that when people are really hard on themselves and deprive themselves of the foods they really enjoy (instead of having them in moderation) then they will end up over eating them and punish themselves for it. That is a really unhealthy way of treating yourself and food
I noticed this at Japanese women, moderation. They eat rice, bread, cakes but... small portions and careful how they mix foods. Rice with fish or veggies and steak with salad. In France I noticed parents don't over fees children. Children eat the same thing as parents but smaller portions. My brothers always placed salad on his kids plates since they were young and they now help themselves with salad, it's normal.
If anyone has ever been to Europe or even anywhere else than America period, especially France, they should have noticed that everything is smaller. Portions, food (berries aren’t the size of apples there) because it’s not pumped with hormones and “organic” isn’t pushed out, all the food is good quality, locally grown and organic. Even cars, houses, etc are smaller. That also has to do with population and economy, but in America everything is huge and we get “in trouble” as kids for wasting our food or not finishing it. In Europe food was scarce in the old days because the climate was so cold, so that’s another factor. My mom is from Europe and she told me when she first came to America the first thing she noticed was that food was larger (fruits, veggies, chicken) but the taste and even texture was lacking.
Unfortunately rice 🍚 spaghetti and these other carbs aren’t good for me. They make me extra hungry, cause bloating, increased insulin resistance. It doesn’t matter about portions. I have fibroids so I need to eliminate unnecessary food groups like processed carbs and sugary snacks
I have lived abroad and in the US and agree with everything you say. Also, many of the good French habits of moderation used to be the norm in the US as well. My grandmother ate everything in moderation, was busy and active, but never went to a gym and lived to be 101. We can't just take a walk, it now has to be a "hike." And it's so true about young American women spending their days in sloppy sweatpants and no makeup, but their nights in full glam. This is also something that was not done here until the last ten or 15 years. A terrible trend. Loving your videos!
Over the last month or so, I've started taking this approach when it comes to my eating - eating intuitively with no restrictions / everything in moderation and it has done wonders for my mental health. I've also been losing weight as a result which is awesome too. Also, one of my close friends is French and she has similar habits to the things you share. Really enjoying your content!
I feel bad about how many disclaimers you have to make and how careful/worried about offending you have to be because people can't use common sense/accept that there are always exceptions, duh.
Insecurity is a very prominent tone in our society these days. Kids are basically coached to hate themselves so they’re ultra sensitive and they need any excuse to get pissed off and rant. This era of hypersensitivity to others’ emotions has created a culture of walking on eggshells and inevitably blowing up in anger because of it.

Moderation is the key! As an insulin dependent diabetic since I was a teenager, I went to the nutritionist and learned about portion sizes. It seems that during the last 20 years portion sizes at American restaurants actually are generally double. I rarely go out to eat, but when I do I take half of the meal home.

just a reminder to everyone that healthy eating is different for everyone, listen to your own body and its needs, and don't compare your eating habits to others
They did a study on identical twins on different diets and one got fat and unhealthy while the other one stayed thin. So I think too many people use “genetics” as an excuse for being fat when they could make lifestyle choices to be thin. If it was just “genetics” for why people are fat, then why were there almost no fat people 100 years ago?

I used to have roommates that stocked up on junk food and it was so horrible for me, especially since I grew up with a French mom who always cooked healthy dinners. I have ADHD too, so I’d impulsively eat junk food if it was available. Taking daily walks to boost my dopamine levels totally cut my cravings and made whole foods more desirable. Great video!! Hi Lucie! Could you please make a video of your daily routine? What you do around the house, errands, work, the kind of work outs you like, etc? Thank you so much!
As I’m on keto, i understand the French way of life. I eat the types of high nutrient based foods that keep me full for hours without snacking. I enjoy long walks and do some fitness workouts.
I am not American But I have lived here for 3 years. yes, American portions are HUGE, so my tip for that is when eating out, buy small size portions or eat half of a huge portion AND eat the rest later the next day or something.
My father always taught me to eat to live, not live to eat and my mother taught me moderation is key. Genetically I’ve been given a short stature yet high muscle content body. Partial from Celtic and partial from Scandinavian heritage. Great video makes perfect sense to my life.
This video made me laugh at my North American culture. I love the general French culture and how less is more. I love the attitude of eating quality over quantity. I love learning about how other cultures view food, relationships, habits etc. I live in Canada and still have not ever visited out French region. I’d love to know if Quebec people have generally adopted North American eating or if they have generally maintained more of a French philosophy...
Merci beaucoup for the great tips! I'm a 72 year old American woman with un petit peu of French heritage! I live more like a French woman or English woman since I'm mostly Brit-American than living like most American women. I learned from the French to only eat a bit of chocolate so instead of eating a whole chocolate bar in one sitting I can make it last a whole week! Even though I was a fitness trainer/weight trainer in my 40s, I have struggled with my weight for decades only being around 20 lbs overweight! Sometimes,it's more frustrating to have to lose just a little weight than a lot of weight. Remember too, muscle weighs more than fat! Bon chance, good luck to all~
Me, fat American going...this must be how other people feel when I talk about Christianity and Financial Responsibility. Wow! I can't even imagine the mindset you are talking about. Can't wait to hear more!
I feel like social media has ruined our diets and ways of eating... like before social media no one had ever heard of “cheat days”... Loving your videos by the way!! Trying to transition into intuitive eating and i have to say it’s the hardest thing ever but I know it’s probably the most sustainable than all diets out there.
What I noticed are the same things that you mentioned in this video...... 1. Both, the French and Italian Women are Elegant and Absolutely Beautiful!!! 2. They All Eat CARBS, and Some drink wine but Not on a daily basis. 3. They enjoy Bread and desserts in their meals. 4. They have better Silhouettes and more feminine bodies. 5. Their Personal Care is on a daily basis. 6. They don't have Obsessive's Personalities, are more relaxed in general and more Pleasant to Speak with.
Lovely video and very eye opening for me! I'm a lot more likely to keep being physically active if I'm having fun doing it so I like to do things like dance and yoga because they're fun and make me feel nice :)
Also corsets. I worked in Paris for years and most women over about 30 wore a corset or some form of girdle because they were _constantly_ talking about them at the office and in cafés
this came at a perfect time for me... Just coming off a binge fest and was planning a 24 hr fast to make up for it, even though I know that every time I restrict, I end up binging. Funny how we see those patterns so clearly and yet we can't resist them. Talk about self-sabotage! Thank you so much for this, I'm going to try and remember to be kind to myself and focus on "everything in moderation". Lots of love from the UK xx
Thank you for your content. I have been so intrigued with the French approach to food. Do you have any favorite recipes you'd be interested in sharing? Thank you
Do you think the underlying difference is that the French are less stressed than the Americans? I was overweight all my adult life until I retired. I now realise it was a stress-driven addiction to junk food.
I might be careful saying being overweight is "not your fault." Not knowing the foods you eat and the bad habits you have are causing your weight problems is one thing but once you know, if you ignore sound advice, such as what you are saying, then it kind of is your fault. People have weight gain tendencies but that's not a death sentence. You don't have to eat poorly or overeat. You don't have to sit on the couch and mindlessly snack. Our genetics are not our fault but if we educating ourselves on good habits or ways of eating to overcome them is 100% our responsibility. I love the advice you're giving. My very first job was working for a French-owned food importer. This experience opened my eyes to different foods and different habits. When the company had a Christmas lunch, the French owners and employees would comment in (probably horrified) wonder about how we Americans load our plates with food rather than eating a couple things then coming back to try something else. It made me aware that I did not, in fact, have to eat all the things all at once. There was one French woman who worked with us who was old enough to be my mother but she was very fit because she was just active, not because she "worked out." She was probably the most confident woman I've ever met. She brought small lunches of pasta and olive oil with a small amount of fish or chicken as well as maybe a salad. She always had a mid-afternoon coffee with a piece of chocolate or a "biscuit."
Cigarette smoking and weight loss was something promoted in the 1950s by the tobacco industry. The U.S. used to have advertisements with Ronald Reagan and Lucille Ball promoting that smoking was supposed to be healthy. The idea was if a person was smoking they would be kept busy and wouldn't be thinking of food and it would keep hunger pangs at bay. Yikes. Doctors used to smoke in the hospitals.
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction: the more you restrict the more you binge. The stricter the restriction, the bigger the binge. Stop restrictions, and binges will magically disappear. Eat full meals like humans have always done (except for cavemen, I suppose) and don't skip your little dessert (in my opinion). I LOVE your videos!!! And so glad to see you have a following. We will all trash the diet culture together, finally!

I think living in Europe you do tend to walk and move a lot more throughout your day because you take the train, bus, bike and walk to places more. I think this is really helpful. I lost a lot of weight when I lived in the Netherlands and I didn't restrict my diet but I was walking a lot and ate in a balanced way. Its hard to incorporate that walking in here when you don't have something or somewhere to walk to so you just have to go walk just to get outside or whatever.
Persian and Parisians’ culture resembles a lot. Before Iran revolution, the two countries had a good relationship. I am curious to know if you know anything about Pahlavi’s family residing in Paris?
I find these videos very interesting and quite informative and it’s cool to hear about different things people across the world do of course these are generalisations but still cool.
From your videos, it sounds like French women live without all the stress related to body image, weight, food, etc. That sounds like such a better life than the typical American thinking!

Sounds like a typical North American. Don't even know your own country.
Bon chance, good luck to all~
Yess quality over quantity! Loving your videos❣
Thank you, I'm so glad!
Watching your videos makes me realize how messed up our diet mentality is here in America. But it's really good insight, thank you so much. ❤
Hi, I really like your videos. You said in another video that french DO compensate over eating with the next meal.
i'm so happy you posted this!!
Thank you for watching!
A lot of books from the 70s talked about "cheat days" but they were books for men who were doing body building
This is fabulous thank you 😊
What I noticed are the same things that you mentioned in this video......
Also 1/4 of the French population smokes....
You really opened my eyes here
Lovely video and very eye opening for me!
Wishing you all the best!!
you are the best
aww thank you!
Thank you for your content. I have been so intrigued with the French approach to food. Do you have any favorite recipes you'd be interested in sharing? Thank you
Thank you! I'll keep that in mind!
Do you think the underlying difference is that the French are less stressed than the Americans? I was overweight all my adult life until I retired. I now realise it was a stress-driven addiction to junk food.
I go to the gym almost every day because I have osteoporosis and it helps build healthy muscles.
your content has helped me sm thank you!
I'm so glad, thank you so much!
god i love so much the french mindset and lifestyle
Can you do a video on hunger and fullness cues for French women to teach?
Lovely video as always..most informative...love how its about change in the lifestyle and mindset more rather than a quick fix.. 🙂❤
Thank you so much!
Absolutely!! And yes that's an awesome goal haha
It has to be said... your lashes look so good in this video. 😍
Aww thank you so much!
@@Edukalebylucie you are so welcome! And love these tips. They are true and I think will help a lot of people. 😊
Love your video!really helpful and informative, plz keep up the good work👍btw, would you plz tell the brand&color of your lipstick in this video?so beautiful😍
I used to dance in my living room sometimes. Just put on some music and dance in whatever room in your house has the largest space! :)
I left some comments on some of your other videos. I only found this channel a few days ago and already I'm watching some of them over and over again. I have a binge eating disorder and wish I could get help from you!
This is what I started doing during lockdown to be honest 😅
I have a glass of wine and put on my favorite song😍 it’s not like going out but it definitely makes you feel better ❤️
Btw if you’re looking for something to watch, I have a channel with content from London, Italy and Greece ☺️
I do that as well haha, put on music and dance my heart out 😂 So glad you enjoy my channel, thank you!
@@VASIGTravelingLifeinLondon Nice! I'll check it out!. :)
@@PetBunnyDebbie thanks so much, Debbie❤️ btw I love your profile photo 😍
Can you please make a video of thyroid health as a focus? I’m American and I’m sure my weight issues are from my American eating habits described by you in this video. It’s spot on! I am going to attempt to change my eating habits like you said and I’m sure it will help. If you are knowledgeable about the thyroid, please make a video. ❤️
Geeze why don't you go to a doctor?
Great video! Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
I like to take a walk in the woods because it's pretty and calm.
You are totally right!
Glad you like them, thank you!
From your videos, it sounds like French women live without all the stress related to body image, weight, food, etc. That sounds like such a better life than the typical American thinking!
I really think it’s like that, I noticed the same in Italy!
Btw if you’re looking for something to watch, I have a channel with content from London, Italy and Greece ☺️
@@VASIGTravelingLifeinLondon Thanks, I'll check it out!
@@angiesmith2877 thanks so much Angie, hope you enjoy it ❤️
Yes, a lot of them do!
That's not true though. Body image problems are everywhere in Europe.Lots of people think about their weigh on a daily basis and eating disorders are on a rise. It's just not as bad as in the US, not yet.
I would like to see more videos about what are you eat in a day, for breakfast, dinner and lunch.
Noted, thank you!!
I mostly like the smoking part. I've heard similar things around my friend circle and I was wondering about that, thank you❣
Thank you so much!!
I started gaining weight when i moved from France to South Africa. My entire relationship with food changed. Its true that in France i was never concerned about what i eat… and i was never overweight 😫
Came here from part 1 - I'm really happy to have discovered your channel, and sorry to be so trivial, BUT I absolutely must know what lipstick you are wearing! It's absolutely stunning on you!
