    One thing I might add is that some houses improve on certain old fragrances to make them smell better or more wearable nowadays. Guerlain's Vetiver for example seems to me now much smoother than it was; some note in an older formulation was a bit off-putting to my nose on initial spray. Now it smells amazing from start to finish.

Can you please do a video that discusses the details of how to properly store colognes for long term storage? I vacuum seal my colognes in their boxes and then store them in a cool dark place like my closet or a cabinet inside my bedroom...how long can my colognes last in those conditions now that they are protected from oxygen, light, and heat / temperature fluctuations? i would love a video that explores this topic, please! thanks 😊 🙏

    Great vid as always. I would add one thing which is sometimes the top notes are just kinda missing/weak...not bad, just faded away. This makes the balancing off. I've compared a few vintage v current, and often the main difference was just low-power top notes.

    100% concur, well presented. Actually had a situation recently with a beloved vintage close to my heart. Bought a new bottle of Polo Green and it is disgusting. Comes off as a plastic mess spilled into a filthy ash tray, I was really bummed. Not even close. Went out my way to acquire a 2003 Cosmair and it is the same glorious concoction of my youth. Bright green with discernible rich tobacco, flawless. Laid down a couple extra bucks, however so completely worth it. May even grab another, the bottle is in perfect condition.

      @ScentsOfSouthJersey  3 года назад +1

      That’s one that I want a vintage of, I have a vintage splash but it ended up not being 100% I think it’s sort of foul in the opening then drys down and it’s nice, it was an eBay buy from someone who was just selling it not a fragrance enthusiast, it was the sellers fathers blah blah the story went but it is what it is

    Lacoste Original is a great example of sure you can buy the vintage, but the reformulation is still excellent. When I buy those I don't even bother to look if it's the vintage or reformulation. Both are absolutely amazing. I'll post my Lacoste Original collection on my IG at some point. I think you'll get a kick out of it. Then there's Polo green. I'll always keep a new formulation around but nine times out of ten I'm going with vintage. It's special for me. Both smell great, but that one is personal. I'll burn every dollar I have on Warner/Cosmair Polo.

    Vintage fragrance buying sounds like it carries the same downsides as vintage watch buying. Buy your seller, and don’t think you can take shortcuts because the price looks too good. Citrus fragrances spoiling more easily is one of the reasons why vintage Creed is probably not the best option. I have two sample vials of Millesime Imperial, and they’re both spoiled. I’d say Acqua Di Gio has been (almost) reformulated to death, but newer batches of Guerlain Vetiver still have great potency. Great buying guide video.

    • @ScentsOfSouthJersey
      @ScentsOfSouthJersey  3 года назад +1

      Yes you have to do your homework and make sure the source is reputable etc, so many citrus scents I have got and they have been sour it’s frustrating lol. Thank you for watching and commenting!

  • @SeanHH1986
    @SeanHH1986 Год назад +2

    one of the things i learned the hard way is that with stuff thats vintage, "never sprayed never opened" means "i dont know if its spoiled". and to be honest, if youre buying a bottle you know for a fact is 30 years old and the seller clearly states this isnt sprayed....can you really hold them responsible if they didnt claim otherwise?

    • @ScentsOfSouthJersey
      @ScentsOfSouthJersey  Год назад +2

      That’s a great point, I always ask for a spray test. If they don’t know what it is supposed to smell like it’s difficult to tell, so I just ask if it smells horrible or like vinegar lol. Thanks for watching and commenting Sean !

    The other thing that i would add to this fantastic video is that when you are hunting for vintage remember the really old formulations have very short ingridient lists. For example i just bought 100ml of VC&A pour homme and i narrowed it down to two reputable sources. The two bottles were equally priced and one just showed alcohol, parfum & water and the other was an ingridient list a mile long. The older bottles were like a big middle finger to the regulators of who ever enforces ingridients. So remember a good way to judge AROUND when the bottle is from is how the ingridients are listed. Great video overall sire. And i am one of these people who thinks the vintage formulas are superior. For example i am wearing eau de rochas today and i have the formula with the clear cap prior to P&G buying rochas. The longevity on this version versus the new one with the non descript grey cap is night and day. Both are edts both are the same fragrence but huge difference. The other advantage to vintage is that you can find a formula that has ingidients that you will not find in modern fragrences. On a side note i also have rockford atkinson on the way. Really excited to try that bad boy :)
    -Ramsey

    The word vintage means “of Age” not “first” of or “before restrictions”

      But when referring to fragrance it’s used to describe versions made originally or before restrictions, the way you put it, which isn’t wrong, I would say is more in line with aged wine or champagne
