What makes this movie so special are many reasons, one of the reasons is that, it's talking about love between two main characters, but there are no scenes of kissing/hugging, not even a single word of love, like, beautiful to each other, but you can still feel a deep deep love between the two.

The assassins walked in way too overconfident: Lightning's thing is throwing needles, but he didn't even bother to resupply, walked in low on ammo; Turquoise lacked experience and was using a weapon that she wasn't familiar with; so she wasn't able to assist Lightning properly. By the time Lightning figured out something wasn't quite right, it was too late. Superb film: great story, tight script, fine acting, excellent cinematography, and brilliant character development.

The male assassin is surprised by what he thought is an idiot able to point out his weakness.
This point is actually a plot twist. In the beginning of the show, he's a dumb clumsy happy go lucky guy who married a retired assassin. We (the audience) pretty much have the same reaction as the guy assassin like "He's gonna die, wait.....somethings not right.....omg.......HOLY SHIT". One of the best martial movie I've watched. Sadly it wasn't accepted as well as it's suppose to
Exactly....for those who see the fight scene only would be impressed....but those who saw the entire movie were mind blown....he was that low key guy who works as a messenger and looked like he knows nothing about this kinda stuff but HOLLLLLLY....when it comes to sowrds....he slayed two professional assassins and there squad of trained soldiers like they were nothing while protecting his defenceless sleeping wife next to him....this came out of the blue as he was tucking her in bed as she was unconscious i was freaking out like"what will happen next....who is gonna save them"....then....

This movie is awesome. Best villain motivation ever. And the characters are so complete. All of them with dreams, personalities and their own way of fighting. Wish netflix would get it

This scene was a great twist and made things in the previous part of the movie so much more clear. And the movie also had some great Jianghu myths. The dad mentioned how there used to be ppl performing the climbing up the rope as street magicians and the idea of that face surgery. I also loved how they used the flexible sword, it is rarely ever shown in cinema. Loved this movie.
+eugene188 flexible swords are used for stabbing and thrusting, not cutting. This type of sword is very well known in China. It makes movement unpredictable by your opponent. A lot of acrobatic moves are required
I like how the killers were initially mocking him, but once they saw his movements in sharpening the sword they knew that they had to take him seriously
This Is one of the most engaging martial arts movies I've ever seen. Plot, pacing, writing are all on point and the casting is brilliant. I'm downloading it again so I can gladly watch it for the 1000th time.

I'm not a John Woo fan, but this was a pretty good movie. I liked this scene especially and how it unfolds. The assassins are confident at first, even cocky, but the slowly realize he's more than he appears and is actually a threat to them. And then the hammer falls.
This movie was really good. One of best jianghu movies I've seen. It really speaks to how important marketing is. I saw them advertise it but it wasn't interesting at all and never caught my attention.
They underestimated Ah Sheng because they didn't know who he was and what his backgrounds were. Lightning was calculating the way Ah SHeng was sharpening his sword and thought he was mediocre, but when he starts sharpening it faster and faster. Lightning knew that AH Sheng was no joke and needs to kill him right away before it gets ugly for him which it did for him.
+JCIce007 they didn't. the dude struck with his needle before the other guy finished sharpening his sword. as to why he didn't attack straight away before the other guy even started sharpening first, i think he was studying and meticulously trying to calculate the unknown guy's strength before he made any rash move which makes sense.

this movie is so underrated. When I got the dvd, I didn't even know what movie it was, didn't even know who is in it. Then I saw couple faces like Michelle Yeoh, Barbie Shu and Shawn Yue. Then saw the fighting, I was like "Huh? That is one cool choreography". I also engaged with the story from beginning till the end, a very rarity these days.

First off, on the night he and his entire family was killed (his first death), the assassin who was supposed to kill him stabbed him on the left where the human heart normally grows, but Ah Sheng’s heart grows on the right. Second, when he fell from the bridge (his second death), he was picked up by a fisherman who brought him to the surgeon who saved him.
