Hi Alex. You write "Vi använder ... , men den specifika tiden inte är viktig". Shouldn´t the satsaverbial be placed before the verb only in the subordinates (I think men is a conjunction joining two main clauses)? Thanks
Hi! Great question! So, this specific sentence is a bit more complex because the clause starting with "men" belongs to the previous subordinate clause "när aktiviteten är viktig". What I´m really saying is "när aktiviteten är viktig, men när den specifika tiden inte är viktig". I'm just not repeating the subjunction because I've already said it once. The word men is a conjunction joining two main clauses, BUT it can also be used joining two subordinate clauses when I want to show a contrast between those two subordinate clauses. (We also do this in english combining the word "but" with clauses starting with "when" (=när) or "if" (=om) for example.) I hope I explained that clearly enough. 🙃
