It is crazy (and tragic) how young he was when he died. Growing up hearing him I always assumed he was an older guy when he recorded a lot of his hits because he has a mature sound. He just doesn’t sound like some kid in his 20s!
This was his first recorded song. His last recorded song was 'Sitting on the Dock of the Bay', he died in a plane crash after recording that song at age 26. He's still considered to be a giant in the Soul Music industry. Other songs include the original version of 'Respect' (though Aretha Franklin's version is still just as great as his), 'I've Got Dreams to Remember', 'Try a Little Tenderness', 'Satisfaction (Can't Get No)', 'I've been loving you too long', he also covered Sam Cooke's 'Change is Gonna Come', he also covered Ben E. King's 'Stand By Me', and there's a lot of other songs of his I can't think of right now.
Otis is the GOAT young brother. The best soul singer ever, possibly the greatest songwriter ever. His influence on music can't be understated. "Can't Turn You Loose", "Pain in My Heart", "Respect" (yes the Aretha Franklin song was his originally), "Satisfaction" (one of the Rolling Stones most popular songs was his originally), "I've been Loving You Too Long", "I've Got Dreams to Remember". Officially GOATed.
If you've done Dock of the Bay and this, I would recommend Can't Turn You Loose , Satisfaction and Respect to see the more rock n roll, up tempo side of him. Can't Turn You Loose is my personal favorite. Listen to the live at the Whisky a Go Go version for a little extended action.
I have all of Otis's songs on 45 singles...grew up just loving this mans songs..His voice is just so soothing....I cried like a baby when his death came over the radio... R.I.P Otis
This is my favorite one from the late, great Otis Redding and I can’t help but think of the steamy scene in Roadhouse every time I hear this amazing song.
Otis Redding was a man of the people at a very young age. His family has continued to carry on the work in the community, especially with the youth, that he began before his untimely death. "Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa(Sad Songs)" is a good one, for me, because of the story behind it. Steve Cropper wrote it to roast Otis for singing so many sad songs and poke fun at his uncanny, untrained way of arranging the horns in almost every song he recorded despite not being a horn player. Otis had an amazing ear. It's not just his voice that's awe inspiring, but the control he had over it. Masterful.
He was the roadie. He sat down at the piano on his own and started playing this tune, and the bass player overheard him, called the rest of the band in to listen (who happened to be booker T and the MGs !!!) and they loved it and recorded him. The rest is history.
Hey no limit. You really can't find a bad song from the 50-to the late 70 to 80 you could understand why people say the golden oldies just great music and always brings back memories from a favorite song when you hear it you smile all the time 😎keep up your music video you are doing a great reaction from them
This info is for you my young brother... Otis was a giant. No matter what you do with your youtube video reactions, get to know Otis. freaky thing to know about Otis is his Dock of the Bay song. Listen to the lyrics, write them down, I'm serious. Otis knew he was about to die in that plane with the BarKeys. The day he died he started off the day in his home in Georga and he was headed to perform in San Francisco. He was personally depressed in those days. He complained to his friends that he felt as if he had nothing to live for anymore. When the plane crashed in the San Francisco bay it left his soul sitting on the dock of the bay forever. The lyrics to his sone were a complete description of the day of his death and he now sits at the dock of the bey...
Oh my God! Otis Redding was just a powerhouse performer and pure magic when you saw him perform live. So wish you weren't just reacting to an album cover and the audio. You had to SEE him sing the song to appreciate everything he put into it. God bless his soul. He was just becoming famous when his life was cut short.
Otis was one badass Georgia boy. Otis was incredible, such a shame he died at 26 years old. Tramp is a cool one to check out and Try a Little Tenderness is a must as well. I saw you reacted to another great band The Black Crowes, you should listen to thier cover of Otis' song Hard to Handle, they did a fantastic job with it.
This song and Righteous Brothers' Lost That Loving Feeling give me goose bumps. He has such a smoky voice, you can hear the passion in his singing. I would list songs of his to check out, but I'll just say pick up a Greatest Hits CD and listen to them all.
If you ever get a chance to watch the documentary about the Muscle Shoals sound. It a great documentary. Otis reading recorded with Dwayne Allman of the Allman brothers. Very insightful.
Otis Redding is one of the best artist of all-time and I stand by my statement that if Otis had lived we would know a lot less about James Brown and a lot more about Otis Redding. Just a raw pure talent of soulfulness. One of many artists we lost way too soon. Too have such a great body of work in such a short time is amazing. I can only imagine the heights he would have made it to if he would have lived. Once an Otis Redding song has started I cannot stop it until it is done. Definitely listen to all his music you can.
Otis wasn't supposed to record this song in the first place! He followed his buddy, who was supposed to record, into Memphis and Stax Records. Between the takes Otis stepped forward to the microphone and began singing this song! The staff were completely blown away afterwords and were hoping they got it on tape! Otis quickly became the biggest star of Stax. He wrote many songs with guitar player Steve Cropper. Some time in 1968 Otis called Steve in the middle of the night and said this song he had written would become his first #1 Billboard! Otis was right it did reach #1 on Billboard but sadly enough Otis never got the chance to experience it since the song was released after his death in 1968. He died in a plane chrash.
You could tell from the first four notes how great he was. He died way too young; what a tragedy. Check out his tunes Love Man, & Try a Little Tenderness.
so now that you've heard Otis you need to hear Donny Hathaway....A song for you, Yesterday, Never my love...so much more...it will take you down a rabbit hole of no return, you won't be the same, lol
Big O get's right into your heart. I would've love for him to do To Love Somebody. It was perfect for him. The man was electric! Check him out at the Monterrey Pop Festival. Also, there is a Ready Steady Go set from Great Britain. Absolutely killer!
Love Otis. Very sad when he died. Please react to his videos instead of an album cover. You won’t regret it, it’s truly an experience you won’t forget. See especially try a little tenderness.
He coulda looked like Beetlejuice on Howard Stern & as long as he was able to sing like that he woulda had em lining up….now think about the fact that he was a young handsome man…..I’ll bet he was crushing EVERYTHING?!? 😉him Chuck Berry & Hendrix 🤷🏼♂️🙃 when they were in town hide your women or you might lose em
Otis MELTS every chich I've ever wanted to get with, make it a late nite alone with her and put Otis on you'll figure out the rest. Oh yeah burn that album up far better songs yet

This was his first recorded song. His last recorded song was 'Sitting on the Dock of the Bay', he died in a plane crash after recording that song at age 26.
