Finnair New A350 - The NO Recline Business Class Seat

- I flew on a Finnair A350 from Helsinki to London Heathrow. This flight features the new Finnair Business Class and Premium Economy cabin.
The new Business Class seat was a bit odd from the start, there was no recline function so you have to slide down yourself. There’s also no seat back cushion apart from pillows. Later, I found out the seat is one of the lightest in Business Class. I felt quite comfortable being in a “Z” position. The privacy is excellent even without a door. When in full recline, your feet slide into a box. The bed is long enough for me. There are some pros and cons of the new Finnair Business Class seat. I also checked out the new Premium Economy and Economy class during the flight.
I also showed the Finnair Business Class lounge in Helsinki and short-haul A320 Business Class flight from Paris to Helsinki in the video.
That was really nice of the captain to let you set up the cam to record him. Respect to the captain.
That's one of the smoothest landing i've seen. Not even the camera was shaking.

I actually loved this seat. I'll be flying it on their HEL-SIN flight next month so I can see if the lack of recline really bothers me, but overall it's one of my favourite J seats out there now. It's really large and private, although Sam is right in that the seat isn't that intuitive to use - the folding panels are on no other business class seat and I think the crew will need to explain that to new passengers all the time!

Understood but you left unsatisfactory on that flight so you didn't like it at that point that it's all good that at Qatar Airways there are different prices.

The food presentation is very uncomfortable for me.

@@ple1597 Like most airlines, the most expensive flights are usually those from their home base. Finnair is very competitively priced from Asia to Europe actually.

@@ple1597 It's honestly not that expensive. It depends a lot on the route, but usually Finnair is the only one offering straight routes to different locations and the price difference is so low it only makes sense to go with them for the better experience alone.

I flew this seat for the first time HEL>BKK and had one of my best sleeps in J on any plane. The seat is big, comfy, feels like you are reclined from the moment you sit down - and if you feel like sleeping you just move up the panel and slide down - don't have to wait for the seat recline function and shift your butt, byt which time you're half awake again. I really loved it - felt like a couch at home. I'm a side sleeper and 6'2" and didn't find the space restrictive AT ALL. Plenty of wiggle room for the feets and tons of space to shift your knees from side to side. If I were to rank Business Class seats (only, not service) it would be 1) ANA's new seat 2) Qatar Q-Suite 3) Finnair's new product is a close third. I loved it and will definitely fly Finnair more now this is guaranteed on the routes I fly the most. Great job, concept and execution, FinnAir!
Thanks for this replay and detail. I have been slowly flying more and more international flights each year and have been choosing biz class mostly. I jotted down ANA and Qatar as well as this Finnair for future reference.

That seat design is so impressive, although it might feel nice to hear all the motors moving the seats back and down into the flat position, imagine how much weight has been saved and maintenance on the seats vtby using this method. All it takes is a reclining seat to fail on a full flight to lose a customer forever. Ingenious idea, maximising space, limiting unecessary hardware too but still doing the job the others did but weighed 100 kg more per unit!
A350 is truly a beautiful aircraft.. one of my favorites.
I’ve taken this flight back and forth between Singapore and Helsinki in early April 2022. I’m 6’4 and for once in my business experience I was fully lying down which is an amazing perk. I’ve slept for 8 hours straight. Very interesting concept, great success in my opinion.
I believe it a perfect flight,but you will,who were unsatisfactory.
Ooof. I haven't slept for eight hours straight, anywhere, in twenty years : (

Perfect timing! I just booked Finn Air from Helsinki to Dallas in Business Class for my trip of 10 hours and 40 minutes. Now I know what to expect! Good job.
Great video Sam! I tried this seat on Saturday, and it’s so much better than the previous one in my opinion. It is like promised, your own nest area. I liked how much wider and more private the seat was, it felt much more spacious and comfortable, and the pillows provided really added to it. You could still get a reclined feel even though there is no recline. I look forward to trying it again!!
PS. On longhaul flights the menus are better, and there will be mattress padding provided!
I love watching these videos with automatic subtitles, where Finnair is translated as Veneer or Female, but funniest where Legroom is converted to Liquor. “Very wide but the liquor is very limited”.

Those A350s in Finnair classic blue on white livery is just sooo majestic! My first real trip to Europe was in 2019 and got to fly Finnair, Helsinki to London on their A350-900 before connecting to British Air on an A380 back to Boston. This AvGeek's dream...

There's much to like about Finnair - but it's unique 'USP' is the glassware. And, surprisingly, that's enough to make me want to fly with the airline.
You can buy those Iittala Ultima Thule glasses to use at home as well! My grandmother in Finland always had them at her home…a Finnish kitchen classic along with Hackman Savonia cutlery.

Hello, Sam. I just came across your video. My family and I just flew on the Finnair A350 from HEL to DFW last month. I agree that the little cubby for the feet and legs is a bit tight, especially someone that likes to turn like me. All in all, my wife and I loved the plane as a whole. Service was great, no complaints here. It's leaps and bounds better than British Airways' business class seats, which we took from SEA to LHR. Cheers and keep the videos coming.

I am a huge fan of this seat and I believe it will be a future trend for business class seat renewal. The fixed recline design gives the seat a lot more space than traditional ones, and if you sit in the first row the foot space is amazing. It really gives you the feeling of reclining in a sofa at home.
It is like those individual pod seat in many airline lounges. Your own cocoon in your own space.
I prefer the cocoon pod for comfort and perceived security if I plan to sleep.

I flew Finnair's NORRA in Euro biz with the EMB 190, also traveled with their ATR 72 in Eco and would do that again. Just because of the lounge at HEL and the service inflight. And Helsinki is a beautiful city.

I imagine that the simplicity of these new Business Class seats reduces both maintenance costs for the airline and weight, reducing fuel consumption and creating a more efficient aircraft.

The amount of maintenance (and problems) with the previous business class seats in Finnair’s A350s was so much higher than they anticipated. Not only the seats had material quality issues, but the mechanics broke down a lot.
@@KoiranenAerospace no idea. I flew Lufthansa often and they always have a broken biz seat somehow. Sounds like an EU problem? For North American carriers I didn't see that much. Maybe twice a year. I frequent jl and nh as well and only saw once.
@@kiraasuka9943 it is the problem of seat manufacturer. In this case, the responsibility belongs to Zodiac/Safran.
Prices go down for airlines, but remain the same or hike up for customers. No thank you.

Great videos and pictures.. I used to work in Denmark, one of Nordic countries, and I often saw plenty of snows there, it really missed me alot of snowy weather.. Because in Indonesia we could only see the piles of lime powder which it almost resembles to snow from far..
I think this is the future for the ”middle-class” business classes.
If this layout is far more space efficient than other business class seats, it could be a happy medium for many airlines doing business class in the future. But I’m not seeing this applied to premium long haul flights like those from Singapore Airlines and Qatar Airways.
@@joeychan6300 Because these really aren’t premium seats for passengers. I’m not sure how they are advantageous to passengers in any way. Airlines realize this, as well - I think it is going to be an expensive experiment for Finnair.
Yeah - definitely see this as the future mid-range business class, provided there is a revival of the true first class.
Great video to introduce the new design and CDG in snowstorm was quite unusual. I've been fortunate to avoid that issue. Sam, you always inspire me to keep an open mind with design changes. (I'm still a fan of Air France)

I've flown Finnair business a lot as I've lived in Korea for 14 years and regularly fly back to Manchester via Helsinki. I like their business product and the fact it's the shortest flight between Asia and Europe, and have flown with most business classes of the major airlines from here to Europe. But since the pandemic their prices have increased a lot, and they've introduced a 'business-lite' price which comes up first so you think the flight is cheaper, but it's minus check-in baggage which is really annoying. I guess that's the clientele they're catering towards. It's a shame. And I'm sure these newer seats are a good idea as most Finnish innovation is, but until they drop their prices a bit there'll be no more Finnair for me.
And Finnair lost its Asian flight beneficial, because earlier (before the war) Finnair could use Russian airspace. The beneficial was because Finnair could do cheaper flights to Asian due to reduced flight kilometers, but now, it's no more economical. Best of hope to Ukraine!

My first commercial flight in 1993 was with Finnair from JFK to Helsinki on an MD-11!
Mine was in 1992 it was on 747 and my second flight was on Concorde JFK-lhr and on the 747 was islamabad to lhr

I think I'm the type of person who would enjoy this kind of seat. Private, cocooned.. I can totally imagine myself feeling comfortable putting my legs inside the pod. I'm only 5'8", won't be an issue, and I usually stay in same position when I sleep. This seat would be perfect for a long haul flight for me 😁
