Most cars run fine on regular 87. If it starts to ping or you hear clacking in the engine go to the higher octane probably 91 octane. Some manufactures recommend premium but don't require premium. You hit the gas and the car takes off with no clicking and clacking your fine with 87. I add Marine outboard TCW3 rated oil every time I get gas at ratio of 1oz TCW3 per 5 gallons of gas for cleaning and lubing the fuel system. It works like MMO and Lucas fuel conditioner nut much cheaper.
My car Manuel States 87 octane or higher I use 89.Bigger explosions means bigger pushes which in turn will help you save gas. It’s not the placebo effect. I have had 8 car in my 30 years of driving.
my mustang calls for 87 but i am using 93 at shell because there claims are it protects or engine wear gunk and corrosion but is this octane hurting my engine?
Josh, if you're running 93 octane gas in a car that only needs 87 octane gas, you won't damage the car but you're paying more than you need to for your fuel.
Knowing which gas is best for your car increases efficiency and keep you safe. This video is very informative indeed!

+Josh Schaer lower octane makes your engines running with retarded timing which lowers performance. It can damage your engine over time
