Really nice tutorial. I have been playing for over 20 years, and still fight that whole step bend in terms of making it sound smooth, on pitch, and not rattely sounding. this is a great song to practice on. Also, just picked a new set of 6 Suzuki Promaster's. Been playing Honer all these years. These Susuki's are killer!! Thanks for your willingness to share your craft!! -Brad
My pleasure Brad :-) how do the bends sound on the promasters? Are they easier? Getting a whole tone bend on that three draw is a pain; the most important thing is making sure that you are relaxed and trying to bend more from your throat than your tongue.
@@morty4815162342 i see that I wrote that 11 month ago... well about 6 month ago I tried "baby please don't go" a lot of -3' and it just worked... just like. that. try to say "go" on the draw. that did it for me. best of luck
Hi Guys, Nice job Tomlin - Just a note on the harmonica type KLYF7 asked: does not look like a Manji, has the features on the bottom and sides of a Golden Melody. A very dependable tool and good bends, bit harsh sometime on non blues stuff.
Hi Tomlin, I haven't had any problem downloading other music from your site, but this one just won't go through. I love this song, and it's just my speed. Thanks in advance for any help. xoxo
Hi ! you're great, thank you for all these awesome lessons. I haven't got a guitar, can you upload this background music to Soundcloud or your website ?
+Tomlin Leckie this is a song for beginner right? my execute its really good.. can i know also the final part that you add when you play with backin truck?Just for prove if i can play
thank you i watched your vidios for 2 weeks .....i learned sooo mutch ..thank you once more :D can you do another ray charles song...greetings from serbia!!
***** whatd i say.....sorry seems to be the hardest word and hallelujah i love her so .....these are some songs you decide im glad you replied on may comm :)
Hi Keith, Georgia on my mind has quite a lot of bending involved though probably isn't the best place to start. Have you already started playing a little bit? If you go to www.tomlinharmonicalessons.com I have a Quickstart guide for complete beginners along with your first series of lessons to do :-)
Hello, wow, that is an amazing song. Thank you for sharing it with me. If I can learn how to play it. I will teach it! Might take me some time though...
Thanks a lot for your lesson. I don’t know why but my harmonica doesnt sound the same. It is in the key of C as well. It is a thunderbird by Marine Band. When I blow 1 or 2 it sound too low compared to yours. Do you know why? Should O get a different kind of harmonica to play that song? Thhanks a lot
@@deetrain13 Hi. The Thunderbird is one octave lower, so you have to adapt the tab adding +3 in each note. Example: It it tells you to play 1 on a regular harmonica, it would be the 4 on the Thunderbird. Good luck, enjoy your instrument!
Hi I'm currently learning this, I downloaded the tab for it and I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me how he does the fancy bit at the end, on the tab it says 3x1 draw, 2 blow then 2 draw but I'm not sure how he made it sound like that, thanks
HI Tomlin, I've been following your site for several years, but now you have something new, to be able to download you and your lesson and video music! This doesn't seem to work all the time, please, help, thank you 3-23-20.
Hi Larry, I'm so sorry the downloads are not working for you. I had to change software thus the different layout. Could you try to download the resources from another browser or device and see if that solves the problem?
Does anyone else find that the very end (-3 -4 -3) of this part 1 doesn't sound right transitioning into Tomlin's part 2 of the song? It sounds like you are to continue this first part again, but after you have played this first part twice and are ready to go into the second part (pt. 2) of the song, -3 -4 -3 just sounds like you are to keep reverting back to part 1. Is it just me or do others notice this as well? If anyone can help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it.
I also have found this! I have the tabs and there is an extension on part 1 that you hear tomlin play in this video and on his rendition of the full song. The notes after 3-4-3 that he plays are not in either video but are in the tablature and i know one part is 1d-1d-1d-2b-2d-3db-4d this might bet because it's improvised and were studying his every move or maybe just he forgot 😃 Either way it's not the end of the world but I was struggling with going from part one to part two also. Not complaining though tomlin videos taught me to control my 3draw bends but if you could clarify for us it would be appreciated we understand your a busy guy x
+Agnes Müller hi Agnes, I'm sorry to hear that. Have you checked your spam filter? If you can't find it in there send me an email to tomlin@tomlinharmonicalessons.com and I'll send the tab through to you directly.
at the very beginning of your tutorial when you are talking about the first part of the song you play it using only the fourth hole on the harmonica. what do you do with your mouth to make the 5 different draws and blows sound different if that makes sense? because when i do it it sounds very bland but when you do it the sound goes high and low and sounds good. do you have to position your mouth a certain way to make the different sounds? sorry for such a long paragraph asking about such a small thing lol
Hi Eza, I'm using a technique called scooping which is where you do a small bend and release it instantly to scoop up into the note. I've actually done a video on that here - ruclips.net/video/BQw2yJlDIWA/видео.html hope that helps :-)
My C harmonica(major diatonic) will not play the note that's on the second Goer "gia" .... what's the deal? You have different tuning or something? I'm new to this ?
Hi Wes - that is a bend on the 3 draw. Check out this lesson - ruclips.net/video/ZCK8ad81qgU/видео.html However, if you are a beginner this may be a little too advanced for now.
The key is to use as little effort as possible to get the half step bend.Literally just activate your tongue to get it without pulling it back. Then once you can do that, the whole step bend is just pulling the tongue back a little. Hope that helps :-)
***** I found your video and couldn't do this bend, and then one month later I just picked up my harp again and finally did the bend, like magic. I'm learning now :D thanks man
I can pretty much play the song so it sounds 'ok' but as soon as I try to play it along side the backing track, it all goes completely wrong and I sound horrible and out of time :-(
I know I've only been playing for an hour or two but that whole step bend on -3 is so hard to hold! I can bend it to an A on my tuner but I can't hold it more than a second. It also sounds pretty "weak" compared to a regular draw, is that normal?
Hiya - it really does take a little while for the three hole bend to sound good. Initially just hitting the right pitch is great work :-). The more you practice it the less tension you will have and the better the note will sound
I thought the same after struggling for a little over a month fighting the harp. Suddenly about 3 days ago a lightbulb went on and it clicked as far as all the bends… the key I was missing was being completely relaxed. Now I’ve fallen in love I see your reply is a year old are you still playing harp?

how much time a day should l practice. ?
10-20 minutes is already enough, if you manage to do to it every day, or even second day.
