For a few days I did all the exercises Tomlin said, but still nothing only silence. So I picked my set of precision screwdrivers and removed the cover plates. Yes indeed the -2 reed was stuck in the slot. I tilted it upward very carefully and put the cover plates back. I tried and I got immediately a clean -2 note. 🤗

I still gotta work on my technique but at least now I know what I gotta work on! Much appreciated for your awesome content.

Thank you So Much for your instructional videos !! I'm "retired" (re: Not in my 20's any more! lol) and decided to get back into playing Bass guitar after not having played since 1967 !! So, I went to a guitar store (a well known national chain here in the US) about a week ago and bought a bass, amp & other necessary accessories..... and, a cheap $17. Harmonica in the key of "C".... at least I got the "key" right!! lol I just found your website last night (Nov.22, 2019) while looking for some "help" on how to play this thing (the harmonica, harp, mouth organ).... and came across your website..... and after watching a few, have subscribed to your channel as well as hit the "Like" button for each of the videos I watched.
Not everyone is born a musical "virtuoso", so I would like you to know how Very Much I appreciate that you not only teach about "WHAT to do".... but you explain in Detail, just "HOW to do it". You have no idea (maybe you do) just How Much that really helps in understanding How & Why something works... which greatly aides in speeding up the learning process. There are far too many out there on YT that teach "What" to do.... but very little (if at all) on "HOW to do it"... CLEARLY (with detail), so even any child could understand it.
As my dear old dad use to "drill" into me.... "the quality, is Always in the Details"!! Always and Especially when teaching "Beginners"....assume and teach as if whoever is listening, watching & Trying to learn.... are completely devoid of Any musical ability whatsoever. As my dad use to also say... "If someone truly KNOWS what they're talking about... they should be able to explain it in a way that any 7 year old can understand it and learn from it.... no matter what the subject matter is".... he was right, as time has proven to me throughout my life, so far.
Thank you again, I look forward to all your videos and hopefully will become "a player" of the harmonica... at least, reasonably well. PS: For "overall" quality, is there any particular "brand(s)" of harmonica's that you prefer?.... or, is just about any "brand" equal that has a price tag over $30. or so??

Thank you so much for our kind words. Not all brands are created equal. I personally love Hohner Marine Bands and Seydel 1847s if that helps :-)

Just found your site. Thanks a mill, I have been struggling for years and years on that 2 hole draw and within a few minutes of following your directions I was making a clean vibrating reed note rather than the quiet, airy one I learned to avoid. Proves one is never to old to learn. Thanks again.

I got a new harmonica yesterday (An Eastop Free Blues in C) because I wanted to get back into playing harp. after about 15 years away.
I literally thought that it was broken because the draw 2 and draw 4 were so unresponsive. Then I found a couple of my old harmonicas and they had the same issue.
I was ready to throw them all away until I saw this video. Thank you very much. My draw 2 response is already getting better.

Thanks so much! What a brilliant explanation! I was stumped because I noticed I was getting a clean note when I felt like I was breathing deeper, but Now I realize it's the way you open your throat, that was definitely my issue. Great job, I really didn't want to open up my

Hands down the most helpful video on You Tube. The breathing made a world of difference. I tongue block, and being tongue-tied forces my jaw slightly up. Not enough to affect other notes, but definitely makes the 2nd hole draw a challenge. Holding my head back as you suggested helped with lowering my jaw without losing the note isolation. God bless you Tomlin!

For me it was easiest to put my lips on the hole and breath in through my nose. That gave me a perfect note at which point I was able to then start closing off my nose by pinching and breathing normally and then finally getting the full feel for the note and the breath needed to play it consistently.

WOAH! I fixed it WHILE watching this with 1 simple thought: you brought up the natural breathing, and i started thinking about breathing through my nose without blocking my mouth. The note instantly came out clean and i could do it over and over again, just by "breathing through nose" with my mouth unblocked (aka keeping the tongue away from the roof of mouth).
