And it drives me bonkers that the NOAA's severe weather climatology goes from 1982-2011, i mean 2011 was 13 yrs ago! Why not update this??
I agree
Same here, all the data shown on the climatology is wrong because the severe weather is all happening more in the east, not central states anymore
@@usipussi6647we just had a tornado rip through south central Wisconsin the other week.. we typically don’t worry bout tornados this time of year.
@@KRLS-One The same can be said for us here in northern Illinois, I expect such events to become common by 2028
@@usipussi6647 I honestly think the fact that the poles have & are slightly shifting more each year has a lot to do with it. Mix that with a Warming overall climate, & your left with Seasons that have altered characteristics, sometimes quite a bit altered. I mean just look at the Southeast, they haven't had a break from severe weather in over a year, regardless of which season they're in.
"Normal" weather doesn't exist anymore.
It looks like minnesota warm spring in 2016 and very warm fall in 2016. The rain totals in minnesota were close to record numbers, and large storms were recorded all over northern Minnesota. This falls in line with pretty much everything you said. Minnesota last summer was like a desert. I hope the rain and storms come this year!
Yeah, last season we didn't really get much in the way of storms.
As a MN trout fisherman, I am praying for rain

Gooooooooooood morning, Guy! We had 3 inches of snow this morning YAY Thanks for the extended outlook for 2024. Much appreciated!

Central Wisconsin here. This last winter and summer have been pretty disappointing in terms of weather. I'm hoping you are right, and we will have an exciting season.
I remember the last derecho system that came through. Power was out at work for almost a week!
while i like having storms, i live in a mobile home, so if the tornados could go north of jefferson county or south, that be great
Sheboygan here. Its been so mild, we only had one significant week of snow and cold but its been awfully warm, all the snow has melted. It was just in the 50s the other day. Makes me wonder how crazy the weathers gonna be this year
I'm in southeastern Wisconsin and I also hope we have an exciting season. This winter has been very dead.

I'm your neighbor in MN, and I hope we get some cool thunderstorms, but not too bad!

I want a good storm season!
The time to watch for potentially significant, and frequent severe weather outbreaks across Northern IL would be from May through July time frame. But severe weather will still be possible during March and April.
I’m from Missouri and I am hoping to see some action too
Well, we just had 11 tornados in one night here in Chicago, so I would say so far you're right on the money
My goal will always be to forecast the weather as accurately as possible. Thanks for watching!

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma resident here! Looks like an active season for us for sure!
Oklahoma wasn’t the same last year. Many said it would move out east and it did exactly that. Now it’s moving up north. It always starts memorial weekend here. We got hit three years in a row and same location, over by Muskogee. Then it always starts over by Moore and moves towards Tulsa. I lived in Cushing most of my life and that’s on the path for sure. I sure hope it stays north like they’re saying.
Well Ryan Hall said this could be similar to 1991 and 2016, both of which seemed to hit Kansas pretty hard, and also something interesting about neutral tornado seasons is they have some of the widest tornadoes on record, including Hallum NE, El Reno OK, and Bassfield-Soso MS. Idk if that means anything necessarily it's just interesting. However this is a neutral season coming off of El Niño so like Ryan and WOTG showed, this specific type of season will likely affect the north more
@@weird0.420 I follow Ryan also. Him and POW 👍🏻
It’s also due to a ridge of high pressure that is expected to build north from Mexico into the Central/Southern Great Plains the deeper we go into the Spring/Summer months. That will shift the main corridor of severe weather potential likely further north into the Northern/Central Great Plains and across the Midwest. The busiest time appears to be May through July. The El Reno, OK tornado was certainly an anomaly. That’s a very rare setup for something that intense to occur. That’s more of a once in a lifetime type of storm.
With a ridge of high pressure building north from Mexico into the Central/Southern Great Plains late Spring into Summer, that should shift the main corridor of severe weather potential further north (overtop of that ridge of high pressure) and be focused across the Northern/Central Great Plains and Midwest regions.
@@WeatherOnTheGoForecasts yes.
We were right on the path of the EF5 that went through Moore and headed towards Cushing. It did not touch ground until it passed us, which is good. But 2013 was probably the wildest year for me.
Interesting ! Thankyou

In western Wisconsin we get some gnarly thunderstorms so this has me a little nervous lol. We had a tornado basically go through our backyard in 2022. I am in the red every graph you show lol
Just because you're in the red doesn't mean you'll see significant severe weather for sure this season. But the overall probability is just higher in significant severe weather outbreaks happening this Spring and Summer.
@@WeatherOnTheGoForecasts for sure, I just know the past few years we’ve definitely had more active severe weather outbreaks in the summer.

Last year we transitioned from a 3-year La Niña to an El Niño. This year we’re transitioning from an El Niño back to a La Niña. Something that hasn’t happened since 2016.
yeah being a home owner in wisconsin this year is gonna be tough... seeing the bullseye in my area in june and july brings me some scary times to come... considering we just shattered our high temps today by well over 10 f and got whipflash in the temps as we hit the upper 60s today and now its the high teens and snow is falling... buckle up as were in for a wild tornado season...
Interesting to see this now, when a few days ago we've already had a couple tornadoes here in Michigan! one between battle creek and marshall and one in grand rapids as well
Here in central Illinois, we got hammered with 4" snow early Friday morning.😂❤
Yikes! Enjoy the snow while it lasts. Spring is right around the corner!
Iowa definitely knows what a Derecho is. We had one a few years ago. It was not good. Hopefully we don't have another one.
Correct. I remember that derecho very well. That was the August 2020 derecho. The strongest derecho in U.S. history. I expect by sometime late Spring through mid-Summer time frame, the pattern could become favorable for derechos across Iowa and parts of the Midwest and Great Lakes region. I’ll keep you updated as always.
@WeatherOnTheGoForecasts didn't hit where I live but it was close. It caused so much damage. Months of clean up. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that doesn't happen again lol.
Last June we had a deracho go through Springfield IL. 25% of our trees went down and most of the city was without power 😢
I agree I live in the waterloo area
@WeatherOnTheGoForecasts do you remember the EF5 Tornado in Parkersburg iowa? I live 1 hour away and had mail and insulation and wood from houses in my yard and on my roof. I saw that Tornado it was 3 miles south of my town of readlyn is their a chance of a Tornado that size for my area.
Nice more precipitation than average for March to maybe see more snow than average and for April, May and June more precipitation than average too. That’s going to be good for the summer days later on and maybe it could mean a cooler summer because of all the rainfall that can pass by. I’m not saying that I believe this is actually going to happen because it’s still so far out but hopefully we do get that because it’s very good for the grass and trees and plants. Anyways Thanks for the update weather on the go and have a good day.
Thank you for watching!
As someone who is in the red for June and pink in July makes me feel uneasy. I hope the Chicago area is spared.
Well done. Meteorologist here and weather enthusiast. While I don’t think we can forecast that far out, I do find it quite possible that many if not most of the months and locations of respective severe weather is accurate. This year (and winter season) strongly resembles 97-98 El Niño season which featured severe weather in the Midwest in the spring (may derecho) and Feb 1998 and Feb 2024 both displayed record breaking heat in the same area with early snowfall in October the fall season preceding this event. We shall see!
Correct. Short-term forecasting is much more accurate than long-range forecasting, especially when it comes to mesoscale events such as severe weather. But overall, I'm expecting an above-average severe weather season across the Great Plains and Midwest.
As an implant to NW Arkansas- this has always baffled me.
Wow, get ready upper midwest and plains!! 🌪🌬⛈. Its interesting in some ways that this seems like a typical weather season - in other ways quite different. Fascinating!

I’m terrified of tornadoes, I have seen 2 in my 53 years and I have witnessed up close the damage they can do. 2 years ago I bought a double wide here in PA. The way my house is sitting the winds hit the front of my house most of the time. The weather has changed so much and I am scared to death of seeing another one near me.
When you say brief cool downs In March in Erie Pennsylvania what kind of temperatures are you talking this year
Just gonna enjoy the good days when I can. Located in the Twin Cities and the Iris in my garden are already 4 to 5 inches tall.
Looks the same as recent years. Big storms in northern Wisc make a right turn and go down lake. Hope that's not the case again. I predict isolated strong (possibly tornadic) storms in May in Northern IN, OH southern Mich and SW Ontario. But small areas affected. Iowa is always prime territory for tornadoes. The derecho forecast he gives is typical.
I really hope the Chicago area is spared 😢 I'm very nervous
well from the looks of the Official NOAA CPC ENSO Probabilities chart 2024 is shaping up to be a big year for severe weather/tornado season and as well as hurricane season which is not good at all

Dang i hope you are right we are soooo dry in iowa...
El Nino is beginning to weaken. Late Spring will transition to ENSO-Neutral, and then back to La Nina into the Summer. This will completely change our jet stream pattern across North America, and the U.S.

It’s possible Northeast Ohio could get some significant severe weather this Summer. Especially given the placement of a ridge of high pressure building north from Mexico and into the Great Plains. That would put Ohio on the Northeastern quadrant of that high pressure system. That could lead to higher instability for severe weather and derecho potential. The time to watch for the most significant severe weather would be from May through July time frame. I’ll continue to keep you updated.

im watching this right after we had tornadoes in the northern suburbs of chicago. IN FEBRUARY😂
It’s going to be an active year for severe weather across the Midwest. This is just the start. I expect May and June to be very active.
Looks like everyone has been off in their predictions for my region. Ohio has been getting slammed. 18 tornadoes so far in my state this year. Last week we had multiple long track tornadoes which is really rare for Ohio, especially in March. One missed my home by less than 2 miles. It’s going to be a rough storm season this year.

Bro, where I live, Lake Michigan won't give us many tornados or much damaging storms. An extreme severe weather forecast won't happen as often as you said. I mean you had a lot of good reasons. So keep it up but, this might be a little to much.
A huge ridge of high pressure during the mid-Summer months will likely cause a series of derechos in June or July across the Great Lakes region.
Do you think Ohio will get another derecho this late spring/summer? We didn’t get one last summer, and we were in the extreme category
It’s possible. Just remember, not everyone in that entire red/purple color will always get a derecho or significant severe weather outbreaks. It just means the potential is much higher for those things to occur. I’ll continue to keep you updated.
@@WeatherOnTheGoForecasts alright. Thanks!
@@WeatherOnTheGoForecasts will we see at least one severe thunderstorm event?
@@SevereStormFilmer Yes. I would think you'd see quite a few chances this Spring and Summer season.
@@SevereStormFilmer No problem!
With La Niña and a lower jetstream, there should be fewer tornadoes this year mostly occurring further south. Hurricanes may be the biggest issue.
ENSO-Neutral and La Niña’s typically bring more tornadoes than El Niño. The jet stream during ENSO-Neutral or La Niña actually becomes stronger and more dominant across traditional tornado alley. But yes, the Atlantic hurricane season appears to be very active this year.
Any tornadoes from derechos will more likely be weak in the front of line. Strong tornadoes could happen
South Central Texas needs a flood. Lakes are dry.
I feel you're unfortunately neglecting to take one issue into account. Solar forcing relative to the current solar cycle will play out more like the spring & summer following the muddy winter of 73.
El Niño transitioning to ENSO-Neutral conditions will be the main driver into the Spring/Summer severe weather season. That means “Tornado Alley”, or Great Plains, and the Midwest, will likely get above-average severe weather this year. 2016 is the most matching analog year for this upcoming severe weather season.
@@WeatherOnTheGoForecasts I absolutely understand your reasoning. But, low earth facing sunspot activity, coronal mass ejections & holes will probably fail to drive up total proton counts & Phi-angle shifts in the solar wind. The weakening magnetosphere will determine severity of what reaches earth. Thus, I believe it will be a good growing season in the corn belt albeit a few severe tornado outbreaks & straight line storms are likely as you indicated but, it will be relative to the effects of solar forcing. Much respect for what you do with what you have.
Noooo I live in Northwest Indiana
I live in Minnesota, and we have had 0- 5 inches of snow all season long. It has also been extremely warm- we simply had a 6 month duration of October. From what this forecast says about Minneapolis and St. Paul specifically… I knew the payback would be greater than the payoff with all this bizarre weather we’ve been having here. I knew it was too good to be true.
Here’s to wearing a helmet in the bathtub with my mattress laying on top.
I heard going into a neutral phase means more activity. Is that true?
Yes. The jet stream becomes more erratic across the middle of the country. This could lead to widespread, potentially significant severe weather, at least for a period of time this Spring and Summer as we transition back to La Niña. I expect May through July time frame to be quite active.
@@WeatherOnTheGoForecasts thank you
