We never really got an answer to what happened to the main branch if both the heir and the leader were killed. But it seems that anyone side branch could only have children that would be side branch, and only a specific number of children were allowed as main branch at any given time. I wonder if Hanabi was spared from the side branch only because the family saw Hinata as useless, but then you have to wonder why Hinata wasn't also moved to the side branch at some point.

One addition to how Ao could have got the Byakugan: Since the Seal is only applied on the 3rd birthday of the MAIN BRANCH child, that means, any Hyuga born inbetween won't have a seal applied for a potentially long time. Like, main branch child A turns 3, one day later, side branch child B gets born (has no seal), 20 years later, A gets an own child, then only 3 years later, the seals are applied. That means, B lived 23 years without having the seal, and the Byakugan would be ready first-come-first-serve. Is that stupid? yes. Does that literally make the whole point of the seal useless? Also yes. But that's how it is.
Considering how prideful and stupid the Hyugas seem to act at times, I can easily see that. They don’t want to change which is why we don’t actually see change in the clan for the most part.
It is very likely that the third birthday of the main branch family member is only they get added to the dominance portion of the seal and side branch family members are still getting sealed either at a certain age or before their permit to leave the compound or when they reach a certain proficiency with bian or some other arbitrary measurement and the only thing with the third birthday is that they get added to be able to dominate the side branch
Or, the patch is to hide the Byakugan for the exact same reason that the Hyuga family protects it so much. He could also be killed by someone seeking that power, since he is a easier target than a Hyuga

Your tangent about Kakashi's chakra pool and the deterrent of the Sharingan chakra drain seems a little flawed to me. Mostly right, but if I'm not mistaken a person's chakra pool can be increased through training. So I think it's a good possibility that the reason Kakashi has so much chakra after is because he was using the chakra equivalent of Lee's training weights for much of his life.
The way I’ve heard it understood by the most people, is everyone is born with a different sized chakra pool, with some being larger and some being smaller. Each person also has a theoretical max chakra pool based on their potential and initial pool size. There are 3 ways of getting better at chakra usage; training physically to increase your pool, training mentally/gaining more battle experience to increase your pool, and training to have better chakra control which increases the efficiency at which one uses chakra for different jutsus. Certain conditions can limit your overall chakra pool, as they drain your chakra, such as suppressing a tailed beast, chakra sickness, non-Uchiha sharingan wielding, and using Samehada.

It’s a lot harder to increase you chakra pool through training, that’s why ninja clan ninjas have more chakra than civilian family ninjas, they already have larger chakra pools and most ninja clans don’t choose partners to start families out of love but potential power their child could have during the warring states period of their history, that has changed to a degree after the village system stated but the difference is that of a pure bred warrior to a trained warrior with no warrior heritage, one is going to have a deceit advantage.
I always assumed the eyepatch Ao wore sealed his byakugam and shut it off of sorts. Kind of reminiscent of kenpachi's eyepatch suppressing his spirit pressure.

I believe Kakashi just became super efficient in chakra control so his jutsus don't require much chakra I don't his chakra pool isn't as big as Nick said tho because if you compare him to Nagato and use the same logic. He had two rinnegans that he couldn't switch of. The drainage wasn't big on him, ofc he is Uzumaki so he already has more chakra than Kakashi. But I'd expect two implanted rinnegans u can't turn off drains more.
@@kmputertechsupplies2374 you can through training. Chakra is the mix of Physical Energy (so working out, eating healthy, etc will boost chakra levels), but also Spiritual/Mental energy (so studying, meditation, experience will also boost chakra levels).
Ao may have some Hyuuga ancestry from before the "Main" and "Side" branches of the Hyuuga Clan were established. He had enough Hyuuga genes to grasp his transplanted Byakugan eye relatively quickly but not enough to be born with the Doujustu. Either that or he is simply the descendent of the Sage of Six Path's brother whose descendent, Toneri, who also didn't seem to have the Byakugan and needed a transplant of Hanabi's eyes to get more powerful.

WHAT IF the reason Ao can use the Byakugan is because he not only has a sealing jutsu on his eye patch that protects it but he has a secondary sealing jutsu that he and only he alone can use to allow the Byakugan functionality and use. He can alternate the use at will by using sealing jutsu that requires specific channels of his chakra being focussed to his eye socket.

Shouldn't every side branch member born after when Hiashi turned 3 not have had the seal until the point where Hinata turned 3? Here’s an idea, hydrification is probably yang release. You’ve always explained it as the user’s body being almost entirely comprised of water, but if that’s the case how can they have functional bones or muscles? How can they survive with blood so thin it doesn’t tint the water red? Also, how do the user’s clothes or the contents of their digestive tract also hydrify with them? It’s clear that a hydrification user can physically and completely become water, and more importantly, turn back into flesh. Maybe only the hozuki clan can do this because they’re made of a larger percent of water than the average person, but they still clearly physically turn entirely to into water and back. Suigetsu even takes this farther and emulates the akimichi expansion jutsu, turning water into more muscle. If you think about it, it’s really the same as the expansion jutsu, just with water being the medium rather than chakra and calories. The water, an inanimate substance, has to have life breathed back into it to turn back into a functional body. There’s also the way that hydrification users can merge into bodies of water and control it, and while that control could be explained as water release, the fact that the water effectively becomes an extension of the user’s being makes it just as easy to call it yang release, the way I see it. It’s at least as easy to call yang release as the snake sage mode ability that you often argue is yang release. So, aside from yin yang users, the strongest yang user might just be a hozuki.
Its drastic to say "deactivate" in the first place cause the hyuga eye itself is a byakugan while the uchiha eyes are regular eyes that can access the sharingan. Its like having to gain initial acces to the sharingan vs having to just unlock the ability to to use the byakugan since its already from the get go in your eye vs sharingan being a not naturally present stage of the eyes.
Doesn't seem to be the case, apparently most hyuga clan members never attain the byakugan even though their eyes look like that, it takes a considerable amount of rigorous training to awaken the dojutsu. Someone capable of using the byakugan also doesn't need to necessarily have the usual white eyes, as we see with himawari. So we can conclude that despite the hyuga eyes being white, they're just normal eyes until the dojutsu is activated, which also applies to otsutsuki eyes. Even in the non-canon filler arc with hagoromo and hamura, hagoromo also had the white eyes but was not capable of using the byakugan, he always had to ask hamura to do it.

@@MoDeLi370 I'm not sure if there's that much of a difference, granted we don't know as much about how the byakugan comes to be as we do about the sharingan, so we can speculate much more but it doesn't seem like you need any kind of special eye since even a person with normal looking eyes can use it and people with white eyes may not be able to. It's probably tied to the person's chakra instead of the actual eye, like how not every uchiha had access to the sharingan despite strong emotion being a much more commonplace trigger than harsh training.
Well technically senju had pretty large chakra pools, and could make use of sharingan. Hashirama/Tobirama being prime candidates. So there must be another reason why they don't.
Oh damn I never even thought about the chakra drain aspect of Danzo keeping his arm covered. Never had a reason to think about it beyond him needing to keep his extremely sus sharingan arm covered because people would have a question or two.
The hyuga caste system doesnt make sense with what happened during naruto: the last, the boruto movie, and with ao. More than likely reality has been changed more than once, the otsutsukis probably lived on earth longer than kaguya stated. There's probably a hyuga graveyard somewhere that konoha has no clue about. Also, there has yet to be an explaination where amado was able to obtain the genetic materials for his experiments. Some other things to mention. One thing that doesn't make sense is how the otsutsuki die. They crumble to pieces when killed. So there is literally 0 ways to obtain any genetic materials unless it came from a body that wasnt fully otsutsukified. When boruto dies(if the otsutsuki process is not reversed) there will be no body to bury. There is probably something happening within the dna of the hyuga that gives them the byakugan to use. But its their human side of that dna. It also doesnt make sense in naruto the last how the eyes of the otsutsuki dont crumble after being removed. The only way sealing hyuga byakugan eyes could make sense is to prevent the otsutsuki from using them and the reason for preventing others just evolved from there. When naruto got sick and Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi went on the quest to fix him, there was probably a wealth of otsutsuki knowledge there possibly explaining many details about the hyuga clan.
There is a third theoretical option on how Ao got his byakugan: A side branch member whose seal wasn't placed yet. say one who was born a year after the head turned 3. they'd still be of fighting age, but due to when the seals are placed, they wouldn't have one.
The way you described Kakashi's Chakra pool and how his lack of sharingan lets him have more unrestricted access to it reminds me alot of Urameshi's training with Genkai and the spirit cuffs
Ao's eye patch could have just been the vessel for a seal. We already saw her had one seal to protect it, what if the seal also activates and deactivates the eye. Caste system was most likely in place before the curse seal and the first generation to get the seals were lied to about the effects of the seal.
4:30 minutes in, I can tell the general idea, I think. Without the branch family and their shit of valve seals being there to fight battles/ wars, the Hyuga eyes would've become a commodity to other villages, being passed down, traded, or stolen as a "power item". Worst case scenario, Hyuga being enslaved and farmed for eyes.

pretty sure when "AO" was activating the eye is same way its shown when anyone else uses. Doesnt mean his eye is transitioning like a sharingan from regular eye to pinwheel.
It'd make sense if the general population had some small amount of otosuski DNA. This small amount allows Byakugan usage but not other dojutsu. This would also explain random powerhouses popping up, kisame probably had more DNA than most and it resulted in his extraordinary strength.
Some possibilities for *why* Ao can use his Byakugan: 1) As stated in the video, the byakugan is already active (hence why Hyuga members have white eyes) and they just change it to an "enhanced" state, the same as a sharingan wielder going from regular to MS. The eye seems to strain & veins pop out but it doesn't change much from base in terms of how it looks. In the same vein, the Mangekyo changes its pattern, but it''s still a magical red eye, while deactivating a sharingan changes it into a normal eyeball without any enhanced perception; if an Uchiha had blue eyes then deactivation would change the eyes back to into their normal blue eyes, as normal as yours and mine (aside from ninja being able to use chakra and all that). The Hyuga aren't changing their eyes into another eyes like the Uchiha do with the sharingan, they're just changing the mode from "level 1" to "level 2" in a way. Basically "this eye works different than the sharingan, everybody can use it" The counterargument to this is that Himawari has blue eyes like her dad, and her eyes change into byakugan when she activates them. 2) The eye patch has a suppression seal that forces the byakugan into its dormant state. When Ao wants to use his byakugan, he temporarily disables the seal and his eye powers up. When he's done using the enhanced vision, the seal reactivates & his byakugan shuts down; the chakra drain slows, the enhanced vision ceases, the excessive bloodflow returns to normal, etc. Basically his patch is a seal that he toggles, and controls the eye which would otherwise be permanently activated. The counterargument here is that he seems to activate it normally like the Hyuga do, instead of undoing and redoing a seal. 3) Partial genes. Genetics in Naruto are extremely rrecessive and dilute after consecutive generations rapidly. Kaguya's grandkids didn't have horns, while she & her sons both did. Kushina's red wasn't given to Naruto nor his children. Mukai Kohinata was a ninja who had some Hyuga lineage but wasn't fully blooded. As such, he only had one byakugan. Himawari is half-Hyuga and while she has access to the byakugan, her eyes are blue when deactivated. Boruto has no access to the byakugan at all despite being her brother and being half-Hyuga himself. With this genetic dilution, it's possible that a Hyuga could've had a family in the land of water, maybe none of the kids inherited the byakugan, and somewhere down the line Ao is his descendant. While not possessing the byakugan himself, he can still enable/disable one transplanted into him. The counterargument here is that it's unlikely. Also if he was a diluted descendant, would he be able to toggle the ability? If a 1/8th Uchiha didn't have the sharingan, I doubt they'd be able to toggle an implanted one; they'd have the same problems Kakashi had with Obito's eye.
Well we were alluded to a part of the Hyuuga Clan being so far from the source they couldn't obtain Byakugan. Their blood was so deluded they didn't have Byakugan, but Mukai Mukai Kohinata did in a single eye(his left) which he hid. So it might be entirely possible since apparently this man wasn't supposed to even be able to get one being so many generations off. Makia also was working for Kirigakure which was why he died and Mukai isn't the first Hyuuga to defect. But this also means! Every Ninja in Naruto being related to Kaguya can technically unlock Byakugan since it sound like the gene is incredibly recessive, which means everyone might be able to learn how to use it if implanted. But this would mean Sharingan is extra special somehow, maybe since it also requires emotions and everyone feels differently making it impossible to toggle.
I have a question, I was just watching Naruto season 2 episode 8 they said Gara and his siblings did the forest test faster then anyone but when they get to the tower in the center of the forest Kiba, Shino and Hinata are already in the tower so doesn't that mean they got there with both scrolls before Gara did or did I miss somthing?
These clan systems/rules were established during times of nonstop great wars. With the mark, if a side member allowed themselves to be captured during a fight so the main could escape, the main could kill the side as they escaped so that the side’s eyes could not be stolen while still alive. This ensuring the safety of the eyes & also creating a distraction for the enemy as the side member was dying in agony.
So, your tangent gave me a thought. The stated limiting factor of Flying Raijin is chakara pool. If Kakashi post eye loss has that much chakara, and he was a student of Mianto, and bodyguard of Minato(well Kushina but thats Minato ajacent) while he had the sharingan. Where is his flyign Raijin? Not only could he know it, he should know it and he definatly has the chakara to use it now.

There’s a good chance that part of why they do this is due to clan politics as well. To avoid potential succession wars within the family and insure that there’s only one true line of succession that cannot be broken.
Now the real question about the Huga is why they don't have a group dedicated to ranged combat. Give a Huga that can see a kilometer a bow and I think you have the makings of a desistating group. Especially if they steal the chakra thread idea from the puppet masters so they can control the flight of their arrows, allowing them to weave through trees and around cover.

They actually answered this question in the anime. The byakugan only functions if you pour Chakra into it, hinata had some struggle with it early on and could only turn it on for a few minutes. The sharigan is functionally different 🤷♂️
What if, the Byakugan isn't active when his eye lid is closed and that when he opens his eye it automatically activates and he makes a chakra sign because he's having to funnel his chakra to only his eye to lessen the total drain. The patch is merely there to help keep his eye lid closed without him constantly having to force it closed. Kinda the same way kakashis headband worked seeing as he also had his eye closed so there's no other reason to cover his eye other than to prevent muscle fatigue you get from constantly closing one eyes

Your point at the end is probably how it started, but absolute power corrupts absolutely. The person who created the mark probably realized the lower it gave him over other members of the clan and then refused to use it on themselves hence creating the distinction. Human nature loves to make in and out groups and over time it created the branch system. But it likely started as just the person who made the mark refusing to put it on themselves or a few other people.
It's not weird cuz Kakashi does the same. He "activates" Kamui. It doesn't just run all the time - he can't turn the eye back normal, but he CAN activate the eye abilities

Awesome video but I am curious in a world where there are so many jutsus and seals why couldn’t someone just make a seal and place it on a Sharingan or any other kind of Doujutsu so they wouldn’t have to lose any chakra from the constant activation and then they can remove the seal to use the eye in battle
Think about it for just a second, an Uchiha typically has a black eye when deactivated but when activated it's red with 1-3 tomoe or a mangekyou pattern but with a Byakugan it's just a Byakugan plain and simple until the user begins to pump blood and chakra directly into their eyes activating the Byakugan, hence the veins, Ao wears an eyepatch because his Byakugan always looks like a byakugan until activation, basically what I'm saying is it is constantly active but its not "activated" in the sense that his veins aren't constantly pulsating out of his face and he can't see a kilometer at 360 degrees it just looks like a byakugan underneath there
If you think about it, had the Hyugas hadnt set up some kind of system to prevent the loss of their Byakugan, they wouldve easily become slaves that are bred for the sake of making more eyes and the entire clan would eventually die out
I always figured the sharingan was power power based which is why it couldn’t g be e deactivated by non Uchiha while the byakugan was control meaning your chakra control is all that you need to do to activate and deactivate it, after all increasing one’s chakra pool is hard and time consuming while increasing control is a lot simpler and less time consuming. As for the Curse Seal (popular called the Caged Bird Seal) it probably started out with every member getting it or a seal like it but then someone, I.E. head of clan, deemed their specific bloodline in the family was to noble and pure for the seal and either wouldn’t their child have the seal placed on them or had made the current curse seal and it got out of control creating the Hyuga clan we see now.
I think the hyuugas are like the air benders in the naruto world, even if there are other better skilled wind style users, in the last airbender/the legend of korra, airbenders were the most spiritual which allowed them to air bend, and I think the thumbnail showed astral projection which is an ability airbenders can use so maybe that's a parallel being drawn

I would guess it's just because of the difference between a sharingan and a byakugan. Almost all byakugan users' eyes are always byakugan, where as the sharingan can go from normal eye to sharingan. Swapping from normal eye to sharingan is what it means to activate a sharingan, and people like Kakashi can't do that. But the byakugan is always a byakugan, and Ao is just expanding and contracting the active field of view. With the minimal view, it probably doesn't really use much chakra. It's possible that the byakugan doesn't even really pull in chakra on its own, and you have to intentionally give it more to use it.
I say since he wears the patch over the eye and doesn't take it off to use it that the eye is always active unless the patch is suppressant and I think all they did was give the command call to the patch Byakugan. But really the ice stays active and the patch deactivates and activates

Mostly right, but if I'm not mistaken a person's chakra pool can be increased through training. So I think it's a good possibility that the reason Kakashi has so much chakra after is because he was using the chakra equivalent of Lee's training weights for much of his life.
Only to a certain extent. Your chakra does increase as your prowess does but there's diminishing returns over time til you max out
The way I’ve heard it understood by the most people, is everyone is born with a different sized chakra pool, with some being larger and some being smaller. Each person also has a theoretical max chakra pool based on their potential and initial pool size. There are 3 ways of getting better at chakra usage; training physically to increase your pool, training mentally/gaining more battle experience to increase your pool, and training to have better chakra control which increases the efficiency at which one uses chakra for different jutsus. Certain conditions can limit your overall chakra pool, as they drain your chakra, such as suppressing a tailed beast, chakra sickness, non-Uchiha sharingan wielding, and using Samehada.

Chakra is the mix of Physical Energy (so working out, eating healthy, etc will boost chakra levels), but also Spiritual/Mental energy (so studying, meditation, experience will also boost chakra levels).
Ao may have some Hyuuga ancestry from before the "Main" and "Side" branches of the Hyuuga Clan were established. He had enough Hyuuga genes to grasp his transplanted Byakugan eye relatively quickly but not enough to be born with the Doujustu. Either that or he is simply the descendent of the Sage of Six Path's brother whose descendent, Toneri, who also didn't seem to have the Byakugan and needed a transplant of Hanabi's eyes to get more powerful.

WHAT IF the reason Ao can use the Byakugan is because he not only has a sealing jutsu on his eye patch that protects it but he has a secondary sealing jutsu that he and only he alone can use to allow the Byakugan functionality and use. He can alternate the use at will by using sealing jutsu that requires specific channels of his chakra being focussed to his eye socket.
Wouldn't there be a good number of side branch members without curse seals most of the time? Shouldn't every side branch member born after when Hiashi turned 3 not have had the seal until the point where Hinata turned 3? Wouldn't everyone in that time, even upon death, have been able to lose their Byakugan easily taken?
They probably don't send them out into the field or let then become shinobi without the seal.

Here’s an idea, hydrification is probably yang release. You’ve always explained it as the user’s body being almost entirely comprised of water, but if that’s the case how can they have functional bones or muscles? How can they survive with blood so thin it doesn’t tint the water red? Also, how do the user’s clothes or the contents of their digestive tract also hydrify with them? It’s clear that a hydrification user can physically and completely become water, and more importantly, turn back into flesh. Maybe only the hozuki clan can do this because they’re made of a larger percent of water than the average person, but they still clearly physically turn entirely to into water and back. Suigetsu even takes this farther and emulates the akimichi expansion jutsu, turning water into more muscle. If you think about it, it’s really the same as the expansion jutsu, just with water being the medium rather than chakra and calories. The water, an inanimate substance, has to have life breathed back into it to turn back into a functional body. There’s also the way that hydrification users can merge into bodies of water and control it, and while that control could be explained as water release, the fact that the water effectively becomes an extension of the user’s being makes it just as easy to call it yang release, the way I see it. It’s at least as easy to call yang release as the snake sage mode ability that you often argue is yang release. So, aside from yin yang users, the strongest yang user might just be a hozuki.
Its drastic to say "deactivate" in the first place cause the hyuga eye itself is a byakugan while the uchiha eyes are regular eyes that can access the sharingan. Its like having to gain initial acces to the sharingan vs having to just unlock the ability to to use the byakugan since its already from the get go in your eye vs sharingan being a not naturally present stage of the eyes.
Doesn't seem to be the case, apparently most hyuga clan members never attain the byakugan even though their eyes look like that, it takes a considerable amount of rigorous training to awaken the dojutsu. Someone capable of using the byakugan also doesn't need to necessarily have the usual white eyes, as we see with himawari.
So we can conclude that despite the hyuga eyes being white, they're just normal eyes until the dojutsu is activated, which also applies to otsutsuki eyes. Even in the non-canon filler arc with hagoromo and hamura, hagoromo also had the white eyes but was not capable of using the byakugan, he always had to ask hamura to do it.
@LealFireBall well that still doesn't disprove the mystery though my point was byakugan is more of an unlock and sharingan is more or a gained ability, latent vs obtained kind of thing if anything the fact that you only have to "train" for the byakugan proves my point
@@MoDeLi370 I'm not sure if there's that much of a difference, granted we don't know as much about how the byakugan comes to be as we do about the sharingan, so we can speculate much more but it doesn't seem like you need any kind of special eye since even a person with normal looking eyes can use it and people with white eyes may not be able to.
It's probably tied to the person's chakra instead of the actual eye, like how not every uchiha had access to the sharingan despite strong emotion being a much more commonplace trigger than harsh training.

Well technically senju had pretty large chakra pools, and could make use of sharingan. Hashirama/Tobirama being prime candidates. So there must be another reason why they don't.
Oh damn I never even thought about the chakra drain aspect of Danzo keeping his arm covered. Never had a reason to think about it beyond him needing to keep his extremely sus sharingan arm covered because people would have a question or two.
The hyuga caste system doesnt make sense with what happened during naruto: the last, the boruto movie, and with ao. More than likely reality has been changed more than once, the otsutsukis probably lived on earth longer than kaguya stated. There's probably a hyuga graveyard somewhere that konoha has no clue about. Also, there has yet to be an explaination where amado was able to obtain the genetic materials for his experiments. Some other things to mention. One thing that doesn't make sense is how the otsutsuki die. They crumble to pieces when killed. So there is literally 0 ways to obtain any genetic materials unless it came from a body that wasnt fully otsutsukified. When boruto dies(if the otsutsuki process is not reversed) there will be no body to bury. There is probably something happening within the dna of the hyuga that gives them the byakugan to use. But its their human side of that dna. It also doesnt make sense in naruto the last how the eyes of the otsutsuki dont crumble after being removed. The only way sealing hyuga byakugan eyes could make sense is to prevent the otsutsuki from using them and the reason for preventing others just evolved from there. When naruto got sick and Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi went on the quest to fix him, there was probably a wealth of otsutsuki knowledge there possibly explaining many details about the hyuga clan.

There is a third theoretical option on how Ao got his byakugan: A side branch member whose seal wasn't placed yet. say one who was born a year after the head turned 3. they'd still be of fighting age, but due to when the seals are placed, they wouldn't have one.

Ao's eye patch could have just been the vessel for a seal. We already saw her had one seal to protect it, what if the seal also activates and deactivates the eye.
Caste system was most likely in place before the curse seal and the first generation to get the seals were lied to about the effects of the seal.
4:30 minutes in, I can tell the general idea, I think. Without the branch family and their shit of valve seals being there to fight battles/ wars, the Hyuga eyes would've become a commodity to other villages, being passed down, traded, or stolen as a "power item". Worst case scenario, Hyuga being enslaved and farmed for eyes.

I Always assume that ai had a seal under his eye patch and the hand sign he uses to activate the byakugan is suppressing the seal allowing the byakugan to "awaken"
pretty sure when "AO" was activating the eye is same way its shown when anyone else uses. Doesnt mean his eye is transitioning like a sharingan from regular eye to pinwheel.
It'd make sense if the general population had some small amount of otosuski DNA. This small amount allows Byakugan usage but not other dojutsu. This would also explain random powerhouses popping up, kisame probably had more DNA than most and it resulted in his extraordinary strength.
Some possibilities for *why* Ao can use his Byakugan:
1) As stated in the video, the byakugan is already active (hence why Hyuga members have white eyes) and they just change it to an "enhanced" state, the same as a sharingan wielder going from regular to MS. The eye seems to strain & veins pop out but it doesn't change much from base in terms of how it looks. In the same vein, the Mangekyo changes its pattern, but it''s still a magical red eye, while deactivating a sharingan changes it into a normal eyeball without any enhanced perception; if an Uchiha had blue eyes then deactivation would change the eyes back to into their normal blue eyes, as normal as yours and mine (aside from ninja being able to use chakra and all that). The Hyuga aren't changing their eyes into another eyes like the Uchiha do with the sharingan, they're just changing the mode from "level 1" to "level 2" in a way. Basically "this eye works different than the sharingan, everybody can use it"
The counterargument to this is that Himawari has blue eyes like her dad, and her eyes change into byakugan when she activates them.
2) The eye patch has a suppression seal that forces the byakugan into its dormant state. When Ao wants to use his byakugan, he temporarily disables the seal and his eye powers up. When he's done using the enhanced vision, the seal reactivates & his byakugan shuts down; the chakra drain slows, the enhanced vision ceases, the excessive bloodflow returns to normal, etc. Basically his patch is a seal that he toggles, and controls the eye which would otherwise be permanently activated.
The counterargument here is that he seems to activate it normally like the Hyuga do, instead of undoing and redoing a seal.
3) Partial genes. Genetics in Naruto are extremely rrecessive and dilute after consecutive generations rapidly. Kaguya's grandkids didn't have horns, while she & her sons both did. Kushina's red wasn't given to Naruto nor his children. Mukai Kohinata was a ninja who had some Hyuga lineage but wasn't fully blooded. As such, he only had one byakugan. Himawari is half-Hyuga and while she has access to the byakugan, her eyes are blue when deactivated. Boruto has no access to the byakugan at all despite being her brother and being half-Hyuga himself. With this genetic dilution, it's possible that a Hyuga could've had a family in the land of water, maybe none of the kids inherited the byakugan, and somewhere down the line Ao is his descendant. While not possessing the byakugan himself, he can still enable/disable one transplanted into him.
The counterargument here is that it's unlikely. Also if he was a diluted descendant, would he be able to toggle the ability? If a 1/8th Uchiha didn't have the sharingan, I doubt they'd be able to toggle an implanted one; they'd have the same problems Kakashi had with Obito's eye.
Well we were alluded to a part of the Hyuuga Clan being so far from the source they couldn't obtain Byakugan. Their blood was so deluded they didn't have Byakugan, but Mukai Mukai Kohinata did in a single eye(his left) which he hid. So it might be entirely possible since apparently this man wasn't supposed to even be able to get one being so many generations off. Makia also was working for Kirigakure which was why he died and Mukai isn't the first Hyuuga to defect. But this also means! Every Ninja in Naruto being related to Kaguya can technically unlock Byakugan since it sound like the gene is incredibly recessive, which means everyone might be able to learn how to use it if implanted. But this would mean Sharingan is extra special somehow, maybe since it also requires emotions and everyone feels differently making it impossible to toggle.

I have a question, I was just watching Naruto season 2 episode 8 they said Gara and his siblings did the forest test faster then anyone but when they get to the tower in the center of the forest Kiba, Shino and Hinata are already in the tower so doesn't that mean they got there with both scrolls before Gara did or did I miss somthing?
These clan systems/rules were established during times of nonstop great wars. With the mark, if a side member allowed themselves to be captured during a fight so the main could escape, the main could kill the side as they escaped so that the side’s eyes could not be stolen while still alive. This ensuring the safety of the eyes & also creating a distraction for the enemy as the side member was dying in agony.

Considering how easy it is to accidentally kill branch family members is. my guess the original point of the curse mark wasn't as a form of control, but as insurance incase a branch family member was ever captured alive.
My theory on it is the side family slowed enough genetic diversity that they’d bring in really strong side family members in to the main branch.

There’s a good chance that part of why they do this is due to clan politics as well. To avoid potential succession wars within the family and insure that there’s only one true line of succession that cannot be broken.

They actually answered this question in the anime. The byakugan only functions if you pour Chakra into it, hinata had some struggle with it early on and could only turn it on for a few minutes. The sharigan is functionally different 🤷♂️
What if, the Byakugan isn't active when his eye lid is closed and that when he opens his eye it automatically activates and he makes a chakra sign because he's having to funnel his chakra to only his eye to lessen the total drain.
The patch is merely there to help keep his eye lid closed without him constantly having to force it closed. Kinda the same way kakashis headband worked seeing as he also had his eye closed so there's no other reason to cover his eye other than to prevent muscle fatigue you get from constantly closing one eyes

The person who created the mark probably realized the lower it gave him over other members of the clan and then refused to use it on themselves hence creating the distinction.
Human nature loves to make in and out groups and over time it created the branch system.

Awesome video but I am curious in a world where there are so many jutsus and seals why couldn’t someone just make a seal and place it on a Sharingan or any other kind of Doujutsu so they wouldn’t have to lose any chakra from the constant activation and then they can remove the seal to use the eye in battle
Think about it for just a second, an Uchiha typically has a black eye when deactivated but when activated it's red with 1-3 tomoe or a mangekyou pattern but with a Byakugan it's just a Byakugan plain and simple until the user begins to pump blood and chakra directly into their eyes activating the Byakugan, hence the veins, Ao wears an eyepatch because his Byakugan always looks like a byakugan until activation, basically what I'm saying is it is constantly active but its not "activated" in the sense that his veins aren't constantly pulsating out of his face and he can't see a kilometer at 360 degrees it just looks like a byakugan underneath there
If you think about it, had the Hyugas hadnt set up some kind of system to prevent the loss of their Byakugan, they wouldve easily become slaves that are bred for the sake of making more eyes and the entire clan would eventually die out
I always figured the sharingan was power power based which is why it couldn’t g be e deactivated by non Uchiha while the byakugan was control meaning your chakra control is all that you need to do to activate and deactivate it, after all increasing one’s chakra pool is hard and time consuming while increasing control is a lot simpler and less time consuming. As for the Curse Seal (popular called the Caged Bird Seal) it probably started out with every member getting it or a seal like it but then someone, I.E. head of clan, deemed their specific bloodline in the family was to noble and pure for the seal and either wouldn’t their child have the seal placed on them or had made the current curse seal and it got out of control creating the Hyuga clan we see now.
I think the hyuugas are like the air benders in the naruto world, even if there are other better skilled wind style users, in the last airbender/the legend of korra, airbenders were the most spiritual which allowed them to air bend, and I think the thumbnail showed astral projection which is an ability airbenders can use so maybe that's a parallel being drawn

I would guess it's just because of the difference between a sharingan and a byakugan. Almost all byakugan users' eyes are always byakugan, where as the sharingan can go from normal eye to sharingan. Swapping from normal eye to sharingan is what it means to activate a sharingan, and people like Kakashi can't do that. But the byakugan is always a byakugan, and Ao is just expanding and contracting the active field of view. With the minimal view, it probably doesn't really use much chakra. It's possible that the byakugan doesn't even really pull in chakra on its own, and you have to intentionally give it more to use it.
I say since he wears the patch over the eye and doesn't take it off to use it that the eye is always active unless the patch is suppressant and I think all they did was give the command call to the patch Byakugan. But really the ice stays active and the patch deactivates and activates
