      Couldn't agree more. (and I'm never partisan about commercial products.) Had a 42-litre Engel for 12 years, and it's never been 'on-the-road'. Always on a bush-block, working off a solar-panel and a battery, at 32 Watts and a timer.

    20 years on and the Engels is still working well. The only thing I had to replace was the battery for the lcd display $1.75. Can’t see myself swapping it for another brand

    • @Australian4x4Adventures

      And that’s fair enough too. I’m not asking ppl to swap if they are happy. I’m just trying something new for ppl who may be interested in something new that’s all. Someone’s gotta try new things don’t they??

    Same day replacement without you having to go anywhere, gotta love that, don't get that from the big name brands.
    Yes plastic isn't good for exposure in a tray, but inside an enclosure is perfectly fine and plastic is lighter.

      I couldn’t fault the service that’s for sure.
      But disappointing that something went wrong but that happens with every brand. Even Engels.
      For me if a company is willing to go to every effort to keep a customer happy then that speaks volumes about the product it self.

    This fridge has some good features, although I feel the whole being able to check the temp via an app on the phone is a bit of a gimmick to get ya sucked in as your gonna see the temp when you go grab another drink anyways hahah, having plugs on either side is an awesome idea tho.

    I use my Engel 45l fridge for over 20 years. I use a ClearView Easy Slide. No issues what so ever, it never let me down. Extremely low power usage. Works in all temperature conditions. It's hooked up to my GoalZero 3000x battery so I never have to worry about enough power. So I have no need to consider other fridges or suppliers.

    Hi mate, just off topic slightly, how does the msa drop down fridge slide fit on the titan drawers? does the tailgate interfere with it dropping all the way down? I see the drawers are 240mm in height and the drop down fridge slide can drop 300mm! I have the drawers in my ute, but worried if i get the drop down that it wont drop properly! if you know what i mean. Nice vid too by the way. Thanks.

    • @Australian4x4Adventures
      @Australian4x4Adventures  5 лет назад +1

      The Ute drawers are a different height to the wagon drawers. My drawers are 300mm talk so it just fit the slide.
      If you were looking at a drop slide for the smaller drawers you’d need to lift the slide up somehow.

    Few questions if I may
    How thirsty is the fridge?
    how many Ah is your battery?
    I have the 60 litre evakool from super cheap. I love the layout but hate the draw. 200Ah, 250W solar, I can last maybe 2 days without starting the car.

    • @Australian4x4Adventures
      @Australian4x4Adventures  5 лет назад +4

      Thanks buddy I’m glad you liked it.
      Once the fridge is down to temp, on a moderate day 25-28c it seems to be using about 3amps per hr when cycling.
      That’s sitting inside my car with the windows up.
      I have 168 amps of battery in total AGM.
      I also have a 300watt solar panel on my roof which keeps everything topped up.
      In that setup as long as I get a little bit of sunlight during the day I can run the fridge indefinitely without having to start the car.
      The solar puts about 17amps into the battery’s per hr which far out does the 3 amp draw.
      Hopefully this helps.

      Those evacools are rubbish. They work as far as they cool things down but the power consumption is insane. I have a mate on his third set of batteries in two years, he’s constantly running out of juice even with the solar.
      I have a 40L Engel and a 41L Stirling from Aldi. Both run for weeks without starting the car with 200Ah and 200W solar.
      Will be interesting to see how this one goes. I like the layout and the size is good for a 100L.

Read the manual only works to 32C! Even with house battery over 12v, no issue with 240v which is strange for inverter setup. Anyway, just sharing my experience. Just coming out of Summer. thanks for the video mate. I was one of those guys that was Engel all the way. Got handed a fridge from 1991 by my old man. It finally died last big camping trip, which was a shit sandwich. G'day James. Advice from an unbiased off-gridder of 60 years standing: Just bought one of these (Coolman) units partly because it was fairly cheap ($500 plus $100 for the 'insulation cover') and since then have been tying to determine who my worst enemy is so I can give him his first-ever christmas present from me! There MUST be better options; even a bucket of ice might be one. I've had a 12yo 42-litre Engel that does it all without any of the 'electronic' garbage and uses HALF the power of these 'modern' units.
      I paid $560 for it, quite a lot of money back then, and see them advertised currently for about $1000. (a couple of litres smaller: 38lt.) But even including the near-doubling of price, if my kid needed such a fridge I'd steer him to the Engel and even pay the difference for him, confident that a couple of decades from now he'd be doing the same for HIS kid. (or perhaps just passing on the unit he got from me) I've NEVER heard a bad-news story about the Engel unit. And no, I don't have shares in the company!😁

    But anything that kicks out an Error code is just asking for trouble when out the bush
    Simple is best, Less Parts is best, Basic and manual operation is all that is needed.
    And that compressor noise would be a total FAIL if you were sleeping in vehicle.

    A question about your electrical connection... the power cable supplied with most 12V fridges has a cig plug that includes a fuse. When you cut that off and replaced it with an Anderson plug, what did you do about the fuse? Cheers.

    • @Australian4x4Adventures
      @Australian4x4Adventures  5 лет назад +1

      The power supply itself it fused. So fused before the Anderson plug from the battery.

    • @justincoleman3255
      @justincoleman3255 5 лет назад +1

      Australian 4x4 Adventures hmm, not sure I’d be comfortable with that. On my 200 I have an extra fuse block under the bonnet, mounted on a plate with relays, etc. on top of the aux battery. That means the fuse is a long way from the fridge. In theory it shouldn’t matter, but I figure that if the manufacturers provide a fuse in close proximity to the appliance, it’s logical to retain the extra protection.
      I looked at using the Engel ‘Posi-Fit’ plug (my fridge is a Waco) but the none of the aftermarket Engel plugs available included a fuse.

    • @Australian4x4Adventures
      @Australian4x4Adventures  5 лет назад +2

      Sorry I should of explained that better.
      I have a 40amp dude at the battery.
      Then mounted to the back of the drawers where the Anderson plug is I have a 15am fuse. So it’s as close as possible. And double fused.
      I done that so if I ever wanted to change what it was used for it was just a matter of changing the fuse.

    I bought what turned out to be a shit dual-zone fridge from Kings...
    Due to a tx valve fault of the fridge side, i lost $300 worth of meat in the freezer side...
    Thinking is was maybe a 12v supply issue on my vehicle, i took it off my work ute and plugged it into a 240v outlet.
    Two weeks later, i lost another load of meat.
    Then i did what i should have done in the first place and invested in another new Engel.
    That 60lt freezer has been on the back of my ute 12 months now, including all through last winter parked outside exposed to the rain and not a single issue.
    So before one compares prices to an Engel, think about what really is cheap, and what is not.

    It sounds to me as if they had a bad batch during the making of the fridge...I had an Apple I phone which was ok and all of a sudden I could only use it on the speaker function...took it to Apple and they took one look at the serial number of the phone...wherever that is and gave me a new phone and transferred everything I needed into the phone within 20 minutes! The reason i went with Engel was my Dad brought his 45L( Brown) Engel in 81 and it had never missed a beat either, it's still working 40 years later. When you're on big trip and you need to rely on your fridge there is only one choice imho. Ps. It will be the circuit board on that new one that fails... The MYCOOLMAN has this over my CFX95 WAECO:
    - Bluetooth instead of stupid shitty wifi connectivity
    - Door reversible without having to unscrew things

    - that smaller compartment basket that allows tall things is brilliant
    - integrated handles instead of bolt on

      Thanks man.
      So far it’s going great fun and hasn’t skipped a beat since the first little hiccup with the original fridge.
      Super happy spring far and the longer term review is coming fairly soon

      DOH! All the do-dahs in creation add NOTHING to the efficiency/longevity of the unit! Next you'll be telling us to buy a particular car because it has THREE wheels! I bought Engel all those years ago; plugged it in and turned the un-numbered knob about three-quarters of the way around. NOTHING has been changed, and it hasn't stopped working perfectly in over 12 years. The more electronics crap involved the more things can (and DO) go wrong, AND the less 'fixable' they are, especially when you're out in the boondocks with $500-worth od food going off! My Engel has NO "stupid/shitty" whatever-fi s; doesn't NEED reversible doors (doors ONLY need to open when required!). BUT does have 'intergrated handles', and my bottle-opener hangs on my keychain, so I AM pleased there's no fridge attached! If you're impressed with the brilliance of accommodting 'tall things' perhaps you should study the art of laying tall things on their sides; the VOLUME of whatever you load is the same, standing up or lying down!

      I did look at the evacools but they just didn’t seem to appeal to me. I’m sure they are great fridges as well but I’ve never used one myself.
      Hope your enjoying my channel. 👍👍
