Love the dark sleeper but honestly, I think the weed guard/top fin needs to stand a tad higher, for light cover it’s ok but if you tap anything with a decent retrieve your going to catch it. The top fin is too flush And soft and doesn’t give enough protection. Just my opinion. Again still have a lot of success with this bait though.
I think they need to make a second version of it with a stiffer guard. Because if they take away the really soft guard on the current model it will lose it’s main use as a smallmouth bait on lighter line. The way it works right now it can be fished on clean bottom with 10lb leader on a spinning rod
Zman gobius has built on the foundation the DS layed. I always keep some in my box though. Their size/weight selection is keeping them relevant (for now, at least...).
I just started using megabass this year after buying an emtf rod I went out and got the perfect pitch and I absolutely love megabass I will never use anything else again. All my spinnerbaits are v3s and v9s, magdrafts and more. I'll never look back. 😆🤣
It truly depends on how you are fishing the bait, but for steady retrieve and fall, our team members have had luck with a 6.3:1 ratio, and faster ratios for fishing more specific areas with higher efficiency.
Like these lures but sometimes the tail only last one or two fish. I'm using these in a saltwater bay and they catch everything. Looks just the saltwater gobies around here.

I’m not one to jump on the hot new fad(not calling fads but most recent yrs: ned rig, gika/Tokyo rig, neko…) but not the last to add to or make a spot in the arsenal either. Well when I said i seen and seen I meant I seen and seen this bait kick my back side time and time over. Def 1 I wished I’d tried sooner! Being able to throw a swim bait where you usually would put heavy cover jig was kinda, yeah right, yeah right you can! Don’t mind breaking off or losing a jig here, a paddle tail there but def don’t like it. Much easier with sponsored baits no doubt (not to sound arrogant bc they all cost 💲 don’t like it but feel it’s part of fishing) grandpa always said if you ain’t hung up you ain’t putting the jig where it needs to be. So at $3.15/ea puts ya on the line of that’s part of it & gosh I hate it and drives me nuts! Super thankful for the break off retail bc it’d be diff no doubt! TW sells @ 💲6.99-💲7.99. Yet to hear or know of an angler that wanted to lose a jig, plug, crank, ______ bait. I’d be much more cautious putting em places for sure. But 🧼 📦, the best part is having a different presentation and swim bait at that to flip like a jig in nearly any cover, and take same bait and fish it any level of the water column most importantly the bottom, and keeping it on the bottom. Maintaining bottom contact w/swim bait has plagued these lure designers/makers for how long now… hope everyone has a healthy, great, and safe year on and off the water! Zaldain been deadly with swim baits forever!! Wonder when he made the transition from Zaldain to Zaldaingerous
@@thedude9001 - excellent, I'd like to see you come toss Dark Sleepers in the wood infested rivers here in Tennessee and see if they are more snagless than the "heavy structure" jigs that are designed to be fished around wood. While you're at at, why don't you try and retrieve the ones I have snagged in sparse wood? Dark Sleepers are best around grass and hard or soft bottoms or certain chunk and pea gravel, they are not designed to be fished around wood. For situations where there's even light wood cover you're better off using proper swim jigs and the trailer of your choice which is essentially what a dark sleeper is without the skirt

I agree 👍. The bait is good but I wish I could fish it through wood more effectively because the weed guard is a bit too soft.
Agree never seen a so called weedless bait that gets hung up so much. Ridiculous
For me swimbaits are the best of all baits especially for stripers. A swimbait also works best for lethargic fish. Thank you for proving my point
I wish yall would let Zaldain design a small jointed swim bait. Guys he is one of the best swim bait fisherman.

Dark sleeper never fails me. Caught my pb largemouth and black crappie on a 3/4 oz dark sleeper.

Yes, that can be a factor, but it also can affect the action and fall of the bait!
I just bought 2 of these and they absolutely smashed em. I was even catching crappie with it in the 3/8 ounce
